As always Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima
Chapter 36
Another Time
The years passed quickly for everyone in Fairy Tail, not even a year after Lucy married Laxus, at the twins first birthday party, Wendy surprised everyone by announcing she was pregnant. The four that made the bet with each other still remembered the look on Gray's face when he realized Lucy had won the bet. Soon, Wendy's first child was born, a girl named May.
A few more years passed and Lucy had another child, a little boy that they named Max. Shortly after he was born Levy and Gajeel had another child, a little girl named Isabo, but everyone called her Bo. A year later Wendy and Romeo had another child, a boy named Kaze.
After a few more years, and after Laxus kept asking her about having another one, Lucy had a little girl that they named Laura. It was after they had Laura that Makarov stepped down from being Guild Master of Fairy Tail, claiming that he wanted to spend time with all the children, and he appointed Laxus the new Guild Master. As all the children grew, so did Fairy Tail.
~~ Twelve years later ~~ Mid September ~~ Fairy Tail ~~
Lucy looked out over the crowd of people from the second floor and smiled. Alec was sitting next to Cornelia having his fortune told by the girl, her black curls tumbling down her back, oblivious to Ur, who was hiding behind a pillar as frost formed on it, watching him through her blue locks of hair that framed her face. He looked up to push his blond locks out of his brown eyes, and saw his twin sister, Halley, across the hall making faces at him, her blue eyes flashing at him teasingly.
He got up quickly to go after her, but failed to notice Wendy's seven year old son, Kaze, behind him with a drink, which got all over Kaze and his back. Halley laughed, causing Alec to blush and lightning to race across his arms in annoyance at his sister.
"Mommy! They're about to fight again and Daddy isn't here to separate them!" Lucy's youngest child, little five year old Laura, yelled as she ran up the steps, tears coming from her brown eyes. Laura didn't like it when her older brother and sister fought, mainly because they destroyed things. With a sigh Lucy picked her up and walked down the steps.
"Children." She said in a calm voice, her free hand going to her keys, and her twins froze at the sound of their mother's voice. She heard a laugh and turned to see her son Max, his blond hair hanging in front of his blue eyes, sitting next to his best friend, Bo, her messy blue hair only held in place by a red headband that matched her eyes. They both had just turned eight, and they were trying not to laugh as the twin lightning Dragon Slayers got in trouble.
"Your father is due back any minute, how do you think he will react when he gets here and his Guild is destroyed by his own children?" The twins gulped and paled, Laxus would not be happy. "Now apologize to each other, and Alec apologize to Kaze."
"Sorry..." They mumbled to each other, and Alec turned to Kaze. "Come with me, I'll get you another drink." Kaze's eyes lit up, and he followed Alec to the bar, his air magic whipping his black hair around in his excitement.
There was a bit of noise coming from the door, and Lucy turned to see Laxus standing there, looking around for her.
"Daddy!" Laura squealed and Lucy placed her down, and she raced into his arms. He looked over Laura at Lucy and shook his head.
No news again... She looked over at Gajeel and Levy and shook her head, and saw a few tears fall from Levy's eyes. Nami had been missing for over nine months now, she had went out on a weekend job on her own and vanished. The job was very easy, just watch a small jewelry shop while the owner was gone. All her things were left, and the shop owner had called them, panicked when he found her gone, and Laxus had went personally to check things out. There were no signs of a break in, and Nami could fight off anyone if they tried to kidnap her.
For months they had searched with no luck, and Levy and Gajeel, devastated, had called off the main search, wanting everyone to get back to their lives. They only asked for one thing, that when anyone went out on a job to ask around if anyone had seen or heard of her.
Lucy sighed as she looked over behind the bar, at a small framed photograph of Nami, a lit candle burning in front of it. She was smiling out at everyone, her short black hair tucked behind one ear, showing off some of the blue streaks she had put into it, her red eyes flashing with excitement.
She grew up so different from the Nami that had live with me. I hope they're both okay. Lucy started towards the steps when Wendy's oldest child, ten year old May, came running in, her blue hair flying behind her, blue flames coming off her hands in her panic.
"S-someone, help! I-I was walking, and s-she just appeared!"
"Who?" Lucy asked as she walked up to May and tried to calm the girl.
"I-I don't know! I-it looks like her, but I don't know... t-there was too much blood for me to tell..." May was having trouble breathing, she was so shocked by what she had seen.
"May, calm down and breath. Where is this person?" Lucy said in a calming voice.
"R-right outside, next to the building."
"Okay, May, go and see your mother." She looked around and spotted Laxus watching her, Erza and Gray standing off to the side, also watching.
"Laxus, I want you to come with me. Erza and Gray, I want you two to keep everyone here until we come back." Lucy said and quickly walked out the door, Laxus following her.
"Can you smell anything?" She looked over at him and watched as he took a deep breath, watched as his eyes widened in surprise.
"It can't be..." He whispered and ran to the side of the building and stopped dead in his tracks. Lucy caught up to him and felt her blood run cold when she saw who it was.
"Its impossible..." She whispered as she looked down at the girl laying there, and quickly moved forward and searched for a pulse. After finding one she looked to Laxus.
"Get her inside right now! Don't stop, and try not to let too many people see!" Lucy yelled at Laxus as she stood and ran inside. "Erza! Gray! Get everyone out of the way! Wendy, if you can hear me get everything ready for emergency medical treatment right now!" She reached down and grabbed her keys. "Lepus, I'm going to need your help today!" As the green haired spirit appeared Lucy looked over and saw Gajeel and Levy watching her. "Gajeel, don't let Levy see this." She whispered so only he could hear. "Distract her, quick!"
She watched as Gajeel asked Levy something about the book she had been reading, and as she looked in the book he shifted and blocked her view of the doors just in time. Laxus ran through the Guild in a blur, and as Gajeel caught the scent of who he was carrying he looked over at Lucy with wide eyes. Lucy gave him a small nod before walking up to the infirmary, Nami had returned, but not the one everyone was thinking of.
It was cold, so cold. Why can't I move? Nami tried to move her arms and failed. She could hear people yelling orders at each other, but couldn't tell who's voices they were. Were am I? All I remember is taking that dag-
She let out an involuntary scream as she felt something painfully pulled from her chest. Her eyes flashed open and she saw blurs of people around her, one had blue hair the other had pale green, and she saw one with short blond hair enter her vision.
"Quick! Hold her down!" She felt a pair of strong hands grab her shoulders and pin her to the bed. She felt magic surround her, then felt nothing as everything went black.
It was night when Nami woke again, she could see the stars shining in the night sky from the open window across from her, and she looked around and saw she was alone in the infirmary. She focused her senses and heard someone down the hall, in one of the offices. She tried to sit up and winced at the pain in her chest, and looked down to see her entire chest wrapped in bandages.
"You're awake." A light voice came from the window and Nami looked over to see a girl sitting in the open window. She looked about twelve, and she was wearing a sleeveless dress made out of a pale gold cotton, the skirt just grazing her knees. She was tanned, and the moonlight coming through the window paled her skin a bit, but it made her shoulder length silver hair glow as a light breeze blew it around. Her eyes were a startling, electric blue, and they were fixed on Nami.
Nami gazed back at the girl, and could see infinite wisdom and time in them, almost as if she had seen too much, lived too long.
"Who are you?" Nami asked in a low whisper, and she let out a light laugh as she walked over and sat at the foot of the bed, facing Nami.
"Take a guess." She smiled at Nami, who looked confused.
"Are you Lily, you seem to be the right age?"
"Nope! Guess again."
"Are you a Celestial spirit?"
"Nope! Give up?"
"Yes..." Nami sighed and sat back, watching the girl, who gave her a knowing smile.
"I am Fate, the one who governs and judges everyone's lives." Fate looked at Nami, giving her a small smile as her blue eyes gazed at Nami without blinking. "Do you know why you're here, Nami?"
"Not really. The last thing I remember is taking a dagger meant for someone else. I don't even know which time line I'm in, but I'm guessing its not mine."
Fate nodded and cupped her hands in front of her and an image appeared over them, an image of a girl. Nami looked closer and was surprised to find that it was her, or it looked a little like her.
She had short black hair with blue streaks in it, and Nami knew if her eyes were open they would be red, the same as her's. But there were differences too, she didn't have the lean build Nami had, and it looked like she didn't fight much.
"Is that me?" She asked and Fate nodded. "Why? Why do you have this time's Nami?"
"Because she agreed to this. She wanted to give you a second chance. Let me show you."
The image changed and the short haired Nami appeared to be sitting in a shop, reading, when Fate appeared next to her, and she looked up with sadness in her eyes.
"Is it time?" Nami asked. Fate nodded and she set down her book.
Fate held up her hand and looked to Nami, a hint of sadness in her eyes."Do you really want to leave? If she accepts, you will disappear. Do you really want to do that to everyone?"
"They will be upset with me, but I want to give her a chance, my parents will understand." She looked over at Fate and smiled. "I won't really be leaving, I'll still be here, in my own way. You will show her this moment, right."
Fate nodded and held her hand out to her, and Nami whispered softly as she looked at Fate. "Nami, I'm giving you the second chance you earned when you saved all of us. Use it well." The short haired Nami glowed brightly, and disappeared in a flash of silver light. The image faded and Fate turned to look at Nami.
"So I'm here because of her... What about my time? You have to tell me what happened there!" Nami glared at Fate, who only gave her a look of sadness.
"Your time is no more, it was too drastic of a change. If you were to go back to your time you would cease to exist. You were supposed to die before you got to the bracelet, but you were saved by your family. You were supposed to die when you were hit by Draco, but I spoke to Nami when she was younger, she convinced me to give you a second chance. It was because you came to this time not for your own gains, but for everyone else's, that I give you this chance . Will you take it?"
"What will happen to this time's Nami?"
"She will become one with you, you will gain all her memories, her experiences, you might even get some of her personality, though you two are rather similar." Fate added the last part with a laugh.
I would gain what I never had, a happy childhood, but I would still remember my own. I wouldn't lose anything, but how would I expl- Wait! How did she know about the bracelet, I'm not wearing it anymore. She looked down at her wrist and sighed when she didn't see the bracelet, and her eyes were drawn once again to the ring on her hand.
Live... I guess I do get my second chance after all... Nami looked over at Fate and smiled. "You were the one who made the Time Bracelet, weren't you?"
"Yes, child, I was the one who forged the Time Bracelet, but how did you know?" Fate asked in a surprised voice.
"Because the only people who knew I had the bracelet were my parents, Erza, and Wendy." She smiled at Fate, who smiled back.
"I guess I let too much slip. So will you take your second chance?" Fate held her hand out, and Nami heard footsteps in the hall.
"Yes." She took Fate's hand and felt something surge through her, and watched as Fate disappeared before her eyes. Nami fell back against the headboard as her mind was flooded with memories. There were a few weddings, birthdays, countless parties, training matches, even jobs that she went on. Soon she was seeing faces, some of them she knew, some she didn't, but she knew their names; Isabo, Alec, Halley, May, Kaze, Max, and Laura.
These must be the children that came after everything with Draco... Just then the door opened, and Nami jumped as Lucy walked in, and stood there for a moment, just gazing at Nami.
She looked a bit sadder to Nami, but she also looked happier at the same time. She could see faint scars going down her arms, invisible to everyone but Dragon Slayers, scars that served as a reminder for Draco.
"Look at you." Lucy said as she walked over and sat next to her. "Look at how much trouble you've caused again." Nami looked at her and saw the crystal key still hanging around her neck. Lucy reached over and lifted some of Nami's hair to the moonlight, and Nami saw blue streaks that weren't there before. "I've changed so much compared to you, Nami. I didn't even to get to say thank you for saving me that day. Without you I- no, none of us would be here today."
"Lucy, you don-"
"Nami, I can never thank you enough, so just deal with it." Nami winced as Lucy pulled her into a hug, felt tears run down her cheeks as she buried her face into her chest. "You had us so worried, you were missing for so long."
"Wait, how do you know that, what Fate did?"
"Because she let me hear what you were talking about. The only difference between you two was your hair. You both acted the same, thought she didn't like fighting much. Now that you're back the building won't be standing much longer between you and my twins." Nami sighed as she felt Lucy's laugh.
"How will we explain this to everyone?" She murmured as she felt her eyes start to close.
"We will think of that in the morning. For now you need to sleep." Lucy started to stroke her hair, and she soon drifted off to sleep.
"Is it really her?" Someone said, and Nami felt someone poke her cheek.
"Laxus! Cut it out!" She felt something shift under her cheek, and heard a slap followed by laughter as footsteps walked away.
"Spike Head..." Nami mumbled as she sat up, and saw Laxus standing next to her bed, his back to the door. "You're back..."
"Yeah." Laxus laughed. "You're about twelve years late though."
"Lucy, can you help me up?"
"Sure." Lucy stood and helped Nami stand, and she winced at the pain in her chest. She walked over and wrapped her arms around a surprised Laxus.
"What is this for?" He looked down at the girl.
"It was because of the promise I made to you that I was able to fight Draco. Well... that... and because I owe you something..." She grinned up at him, a wicked gleam in her eyes, and turned her fist into iron and slammed it into him, sending him flying out the door and over the railing.
Nami walked over to the railing with Lucy right behind her, and glared down at Laxus, who glared right back up at her.
"What the fuck, Nami! What was that for?" He yelled as she stood up, some of the children gathered around him, looking up at Nami.
"I remember telling you that I was going to hit you harder than I hit Pinky the next time I saw you..." Nami put her hand on the railing, and Laxus saw a flash of metal on her hand and smiled, she was still wearing the ring.
After all this time she still kept her promise, not to protect Lucy, but the true promise she made me that day. The promise to live, no matter how hard things became she lived, and because she lived so did Lucy. She lived and made it home...
Laxus's eyes widened in surprise when he saw a flash of a girl standing beside Lucy, who had a hand on Nami's shoulder, smiling down at him with love in her brown eyes. A girl with silver hair and electric blue eyes, eyes that looked right into the deepest part of Laxus, they were full of so many emotions but happiness seemed to dominate them right now. She gave him a small smile before disappearing in a flash of silver. He smiled up at the two as they watched him, oblivious to the girl who was just beside them.
Welcome home, Nami. I can never thank you enough for saving my world, for saving Lucy...
