Back with another chapter! Just to let all of you know I'm going to make the gym leaders stronger than in canon. Now on to the story!
Chapter 6 – Rocking the Gym, like father like son
Morning strikes again as today is the day that Ash will get his first badge. Ash woke up with a stretch and began to do his daily routine. With that, he let all of his Pokémon out and announced ''Today is the day guys. We will get the Boulder badge from Pewter City!''
They all roared in approval as Ash continued '' I will be using Scyther, Charmander and Pikachu and just in case I will also use Gyarados, Riolu and Nidoran.''
The others are a bit sad but shrugged it off as they will battle again next time.
''Well what are we waiting for? Let's go.'' Ash said with enthusiasm. They all chuckled at his excitement as Ash returned them all in their respective poke ball except for Pikachu.
Pikachu hopped on Ash's shoulder as they walked towards the exit of Virdian Forest. After leaving the dense forest, Ash suddenly fell to a hole.
''What the heck is a hole doing in here?'' Ash said rubbing his head. Suddenly, a glove like hand appeared and grabbed Pikachu. ''Pikachu!'' Ash yelled. ''Pikapi!'' Pikachu shouted as the glove like hand returned to three familiar figures as they did their stupid motto.
''Team Rocket!'' Ash hissed. ''Why are you stealing my Pikachu?'' He continued.
Jessie laughed and said ''It's quite a powerhouse you know?''
''So we better give this mouse to our boss.'' James said flicking his hair.
''Not if I can help it!'' Ash yelled. ''Pidgeotto get us out of here and use Gust!'' He said throwing the poke ball.
The bird Pokémon chirped and gets Ash out of the hole. After that, she raced towards team rocket releasing a powerful wind that made Meowth let go of the glove like hand.
''Oh oh…'' Meowth said with a scared tone.
''Pidgeotto Air cutter! Pikachu blast them off with Thunderbolt!'' Ash instructed with finality.
Pidgeotto's wings glowed white and release an 'X' shaped energy and shoot it towards team rocket. Pikachu also released a torrent of electricity making their attacks explode also blasting team rocket towards the sky.
''We're blasting off again!'' The three rocket members yelled as they twinkled like stars.
''Good job Pikachu and Pidgeotto.'' Ash said petting their heads.
''That's one great battle young man.'' A tanned man said with a hat in his head and some kind of fake beard. Well Ash couldn't tell.
''Thanks, it was also because of my Pokémon.'' Ash smiled. The man grinned and said ''Keep up the good work kid. You'll need it to battle Brock.''
''Wait! Why are you telling me that?'' Ash asked with slight suspicion.
The man grew a bit nervous but said '' All Gym leaders are strong kid. You need to be prepared to defeat them.''
Ash nodded and said ''Thanks for the warning mister.''
''No problem.'' The man nodded and walked away.
''Well better head to the Pokémon center to heal you guys. Return Pidgeotto.'' Ash said returning his flying Pokémon.
Pokémon Center
''Ash Ketchum please report to the main desk.'' A robotic voice said throughout the Pokémon center. Ash heard it and walk towards the main desk.
''Here you go Ash! All of your Pokémon healthy enough to battle.'' Nurse Joy said with a kind smile
''Thanks Nurse Joy.'' Ash thanked the nurse and began going to the rock type gym. He arrived at the gym with a confident look.
''I hope I will be able to beat Brock.'' Ash said to himself as he entered the gym. At first it was dark but then a voice yelled ''who's there!''
''I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town and I'm here to challenge you for the Boulder badge!'' Ash answered the voice.
Suddenly the lights opened and Ash saw a tanned boy wearing an orange t-shirt with green vest also paired with brown pants and blue sneakers.
''I'm Brock gym leader of Pewter City and I accept your challenge.'' The boy known as Brock introduced himself. ''This will be a 3-on-3 battle. Substitutions are allowed for the challengers while I cannot. Let's start now! Geodude take the field.'' Brock yelled as a rock floating Pokémon appeared on stage. Ash took out his Pokedex and scanned Geodude
Geodude, the Rock Pokémon. Its round form makes it easy to pick up. Some people have used them to hurl at each other in a snowball fight. This Geodude is Male and has the ability Rock Head. Known Moves: Tackle, Defense Curl and Rock throw.
Ash closed his Pokedex and yelled his own Pokémon as well ''Lend me your power Scyther!'' Ash threw the poke ball and out appeared the bug type Pokémon.
Brock chuckled at Ash's choice ''Your using a bug type to defeat me? Well you're loss. Geodude use Rock throw to finish this immediately!''Geodude began throwing rocks towards Scyther who was standing still
Ash slightly frowned at Brock's arrogant comment and yelled his own attack ''Scyther dodged with Quick attack and run towards Geodude!'' Scyther nodded in confirmation and run with amazing speed.
''Geodude use Defense Curl to bounce of that attack!'' Brock smirked not knowing Ash's plan.
''Focus Energy then Steel Wing!'' Ash smiled triumphantly. Brock's eyes widened in horror (AN: Does he even have eyes?) as Scyther focused all of his energy into his metallic wings and attacked Geodude with all his might knocking the rock Pokémon out.
''Geodude return. I'm sorry I was too arrogant.'' Brock smiled sadly to his fallen Pokémon. ''It looks like I underestimate you Ash. But this will surely take down you Scyther. Rhyhorn lead me to victory!'' Brock yelled as a rhinoceros-like creature with a body covered in gray, rocky plates appeared out from the poke ball.
Rhyhorn, the Spikes Pokémon. Strong, but not too bright, this Pokémon can shatter even a skyscraper with its charging TACKLES. This Pokémon is Male and has the ability Lightning Rod. Known Moves: Tackle, Fury Attack and Rock Blast.
Ash's pokedex said with a robotic voice. ''Lightning Rod….I got it!'' Ash thought happily. ''Scyther return! Pikachu help me with this one!'' Ash said returning his Mantis Pokémon back to his poke ball as the yellow mouse began to enter the battle.
Brock frowned and though I better not underestimate Ash again.''
''Rhyhorn use Fury Attack!'' Brock commanded as the rock Pokémon began its way towards Pikachu.
''Pikachu dodged with Quick attack and use Iron Tail!'' Ash commanded as Pikachu dodged with blinding speed and try to hit Rhyhorn with his glowing tail.
''Rhyhorn use Rock Blast to distract Pikachu then use full powered Tackle!'' Brock quickly instructed. Rhyhorn let glowing white rock spin around him and threw it towards Pikachu glowing tail as the mouse quickly hit all of those rocks but doesn't notice Rhyhorn's running towards him.
''Pikachu quick dodge!'' Ash yelled desperately but Pikachu turned around too late and was attacked by the rock Pokémon's tackle.
Pikachu struggled to stand up and panted. '' It must be really strong since Rhyhorns quite famous for Tackles. I must not be close to it.'' Ash thought with worry.
''Pikachu keep distance and use full powered Thunderbolt at the horn!'' Ash said. Brock's was slightly taken aback with the command and counter it quickly ''Use full powered Rock blast!''
Both attack hit their respective targets as both Pokémon yelled in pain and fainted. ''A tie!'' Ash exclaimed. Brock returned his Rhyhorn and said a few word of thanks. Ash grabbed Pikachu and lay him down next to him ''Thanks Pikachu for your hard work.'' Ash smiled as the mouse Pokémon smiled back.
''That's a strong Rhyhorn you got there Brock'' Ash complimented. ''You too Ash! You sure got some strong Pokémon!'' Brock yelled ''But it's time to end this! Onix let's win this match!'' He shouted letting the experience Rock snake Pokémon appear.
Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon. It usually lives underground. It searches for food while boring its way through the ground at 50 miles per hour. This Pokémon is Male and has the ability Sturdy. Known Moves: Tackle, Rock Tomb, Rock Throw and Bind
Ash gulped slightly but let out his own Pokémon as well. ''Scyther come back and help!'' The bug Pokémon came back but slightly tired as well.
''Onix use Rock Tomb!'' Brock yelled. Onix become outline with white energy and raise its head as multiple rocks appeared with the same outlined energy. The energy faded away as the rock fall towards Scyther. Ash and Scyther slightly panicked as Ash yelled desperately ''Try to dodge with Quick attack!'' Scyther tried to dodge with his speed but cannot since there are too many rocks and was trapped.
''Finish this with Rock Throw!'' Brock smiled. Onix roared and threw big rock towards Scyther. Scyther screamed in pain and was knock-out since it is a super effective move and it was big.
''Scyther return. You were great out there.'' Ash praised. ''You're my only hope! Come out Charmander!'' Ash said with hope in his voice as the lizard Pokémon appeared.
''Onix use Rock tomb again!'' Brock ordered.
''Quick destroy them all with Metal Claw.'' Ash said. Charmander nodded and quickly destroyed them all with Metal Claw. ''Good thing I did not panic. I wasn't able to think much when I was using Scyther...'' Ash thought sadly
''Onix get in close and use Bind!'' Brock said. Onix nodded and head towards Charmander who was still destroying rocks. Onix swirled around Charmander and squeezed the life out of him. Ash stared in horror as his starter Pokémon groaned in pain.
Charmander looked at his trainer's scared face and thought ''No…NO! I cannot lose here! After all we've been through... I will NOT lose!''
Ash was about to forfeit but Charmander began glowing white as his form began to change. The sudden light made Onix closed its eyes and let go of Charmander.
Now stood in Charmander's place is a bipedal, reptilian creature. It has crimson scales and a cream underside. There is a horn-like protrusion on the back of its head, and it has narrow green eyes and a long snout. It has relatively long arms with three sharp claws. Its short legs have feet with three claws and cream-colored soles. The tip of its long, powerful tail has a flame burning on it.
Ash stared in awe and took out his pokedex.
Charmeleon, the Flame Pokémon. It lashes about with its tail to knock down its foe. It then tears up the fallen opponent with sharp claws. This Pokémon is Male and has the ability Blaze. Learned Moves: Dragon Rage and Flamethrower.
''Alright Charmeleon!'' Ash cheered as Charmeleon smiled. ''Use Flamethrower and while you're at it run towards Onix's body!'' Ash said in a serious voice.
Charmeleon nodded and spit out a long torrent of very hot flames towards Onix. Onix grunted in pain and tried to shake off the fire. While spitting out the flames Charmeleon run towards Onix body and stopped at the head also stopping the attack.
''Shake off Charmeleon!'' Brock said desperately
''Use Dragon Rage and finish this with Full power Metal claw on the head!'' Ash said smiling. Charmeleon roared and opened his mouth before releasing a ball of fire towards Onix. Charmeleon also slash Onix with all his might making the damage worse as the Rock Snake Pokémon fainted from too many attacks aimed at him especially the Metal Claw attack.
Ash slowly smiled before going into a full blast cheer. ''Alright Charmeleon! You're the best!'' Ash cheered in happiness. Charmeleon puffed a bit smoke and chuckled at his trainer's slightly childish attitude. Brock smiled sadly and returned his fallen Pokémon. ''You did you best Onix. Now take a nice long rest.'' Brock praised.
''That was the best battle Ash. I never thought all of my Pokémon will be defeated with some fire, bug and electric type around here. And here I give you the Boulder badge.'' Brock smiled at him giving Ash the simple gray octagon badge. Ash was about to grab it but a voice interrupt him. ''Stop!'' the voice yelled. Both trainers looked at the owner of the voice and they saw an older version of Brock.
Brock's face hardened and said ''what are you doing here, father.''
Brock's father cleared his throat and said ''I'm here to say sorry for running away with no permission. I promise I will take over the gym. I know that you don't want to be a gym leader Brock by the way the names Flint Ash and I want to challenge you to a 1-on-1 battle.''
Ash thought it for a second and accepted ''Sure! Good thing I have my other Pokémon.''
''I'll be the referee then.'' Brock said before going to the middle. ''This is a 1-on-1 battle between Flint Slate of Pewter City and Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town. The battle will end when one of you has no more Pokémon left. Battle begins!'' Brock announced
''Graveler let's battle once again my friend!'' Flint called out his Pokémon. Graveler is a living, bipedal boulder. It has a rocky crest about its small eyes. It has four arms, each with a three-fingered hand. Ash took out his pokedex and scanned the new Pokémon.
Graveler, the Rock Pokémon and the evolved form of Geodude. Be careful while hiking on mountain trails. GRAVELER may come rolling down the path without slowing. This Pokémon is Male and has the ability Rock Head. Known Moves: Magnitude, Rock Throw, Rollout, and Defense Curl.
''Riolu make me proud!'' Ash said calling out the Aura Pokémon. Riolu pumped his fist and got ready for his very first battle. Flint and Brock was surprised to see a rare Pokémon in Sinnoh nevertheless a shiny one too but still continued the battle
''Graveler start things off with Magnitude then attack with Rock Throw!'' Flint ordered. Graveler nodded and stomped his feet hard creating some vibrations on the ground making it shake. Graveler also started throwing big rocks towards Riolu. ''That's a nice strategy.'' Ash thought.
''Riolu jump and use Quick attack to jump from rock to rock.'' Ash said rather calm. Riolu jumped to avoid the Magnitude then started using Quick attack to avoid the rock thrown to him by jumping to the rock one after another. '' use Force Palm on Graveler's head!'' Ash quickly yelled. Riolu with the added speed, quickly fires a huge yellow light from its palm hitting his opponent and making him groaned in pain.
''Graveler ignore the pain and use Defense Curl and Rollout combo!'' Flint said with worry in his voice. Graveler curled up into a ball and added his defense before rolling towards Riolu.
''Riolu use Endure and try to lift Graveler with Force Palm!'' Ash said a plan forming in his head. Riolu braced himself for the impact and got attacked. Riolu grimaced in pain but still use Force palm upwards making Graveler fly up.
Before Flint make a command Ash interrupted him. ''Finish this with Full powered Blaze Kick!'' Ash said. Riolu jumped, his leg surrounded with flaming fire and kicked Graveler with all his might. Graveler groaned in pain and fainted with swirls in his eyes as Riolu landed with a pant.
''Graveler is unable to battle. Riolu is the winner making Ash Ketchum the victor of this match!'' Brock announced loudly.
''Thank you for your hard work Graveler.'' Flint said sadly. ''You may give him the badge Brock.'' He smiled. Brock nodded and gave Ash the badge which he happily accepted.
''Great job Riolu! That was the best first battle for you! Have a nice long rest'' Ash congratulates his Pokémon who slightly blushed at the praise before returning to his respective poke ball.
''That was a great battle Ash. Be careful since there are other gym leaders who are stronger than us.'' Flint said with a serious tone. Ash nodded and said ''I got to go and heal my Pokémon. Thanks for the great battle.''
''That kid will go far one day.'' Flint smiled softly. Brock nodded as they stare at Ash's walking figure.
With Ash
'' One down, seven to go.'' Ash thought looking at his very first gym badge.
Ash entered the Pokémon Center and let Nurse Joy take his injured Pokémon to heal them. After healing them, he let them all out making them all roared. ''Well guys, here it is our first gym badge. The Boulder badge.'' Ash said proudly. Charmeleon, Pikachu, Scyther, and Riolu puffed their chest as all of them laughed together. ''Ok tomorrow we will train before going to Mt. Moon. Now return and thanks for your hard work.'' Ash smiled returning them back to their own poke ball except Pikachu who hopped on Ash's shoulder.
''Well better get some sleep'' Ash yawned with Pikachu nodding as they go to their own room at the Pokémon Center slept with their first badge shining brightly.

Now that's over. I added Brock's father since we didn't get to see much of his Pokémon. And if you're asking me with all the training why did one of them faint especially Pikachu? Well it's because of type disadvantage. Also how would you feel if a big rock hit you straight? It just means Ash needs to train more before beating a Gym.
