We were surrounded by immense amounts of metal. Gloomy grey skyscrapers appeared side by side all connected by large pipes and power lines. It was drizzling a bitterly cold rain that emphasized the scent of the raw metal that radiated from the building as Itachi and I walked through the very industrialized village. I looked around at the dark setting, which was almost completely opposite opposed to Suna and seemed as foreign to me as possible. "Where are we?" I questioned looking up to Itachi as we entered the tallest tower in the village.
"Amegakure." He answered apathetically as he led me down countless hallways that all seemed to morph together into appearing the same. I just kept quiet and followed him as he continued to walk down the halls; he acted as if he knew where he was going, so I just trusted that this was where their leader stayed. After about five minutes of wandering, we finally reached the top floor of the tower and stopped at a closed door. Itachi hesitated for a brief second before he pushed the heavy metal door open.
He allowed me to walk in first and soon followed close behind me. There, standing outside on something that resembled a balcony, stood two people wearing cloaks identical to the others in this organization. Itachi stood a few steps behind me as one of them slightly turned their head, "They're here…" a female voice remarked to the other. He simply gave a nod to her and turned around to face us.
Normally I would have felt threatened by his appearance, but at this point all I really felt was the coldness that came off from him. His expression seemed indifferent, yet even with no expression, I could easily make out that he was one to fear. His orange hair was spiky and held off his forehead by a headband with the Amegakure symbol crossed out like the other members of the organization. He has multiple piercings like I did, but they were much more excessive than the four I had punctured through each of my ears. Metal rods were stabbed through his ears, nose, and mouth while purple eyes with a ripple like pattern set gaze upon me as he judged what Itachi had brought back.
He walked away from the balcony and into the room in which we stood. The women stayed out on the balcony looking onto the village as he left. He continued to advance towards us until he was about a foot away. His gaze continued on me for a while before looking up to Itachi who still stood behind me, "You were able to attain her without causing too much damage." He observed shifting his eyes to my blood covered ribcage.
Itachi simply nodded.
The man then lifted his eyes toward mine, "You are Kana, The Gypsy Healer of the Sand. One of the last two Blood Possession users." He stated.
"…Yes… that is who I am." I calmly agreed. I wasn't even going to try and refute the Gypsy part of the title. It didn't even matter anymore.
"You are no longer loyal to Sunagakure. You are loyal to the Akatsuki. You will receive orders and missions from me and you will complete them as you are told." He declared.
I did nothing. I thought that I had kept a little hope that I would return to Suna, yet it didn't shock me when I realized that I really was never going back home. Maybe I already knew that the moment I was taken, yet I didn't want to admit to it. I just continued to look at him with little expression on my face.
He continued his introduction without me replying to his previous statement, "You are by far one of the most powerful and renowned medical ninja in the world and you retain one of the most powerful and rare Kekkei Genkai that has ever been. These factors make you very valuable at such a young age and you are very useful to this organization." He explained as his stare continued. I just nodded, because there was no use in fighting this. "Konan will take you now." He finished as the woman from the balcony walked up beside him.
Her blue hair was cut a bit below her chin with some of it partially knotted up with a bun. A small origami flower rested on the side of her head near where her bangs were parted. Like almost everyone in this organization she had an apathetic face that accompanied by silver eyes. Konan held her hands together and nodded toward me as she began to exit the room.
I bowed my head toward the leader, "Thank you," I murmured with a slightly sorrowful tone as I followed the woman out of the room.
I soon caught up with her as she gracefully weaved her ways through the endless grey halls. At times she would look at me, analyzing the new affiliate that her partner had just brought in. As we walked she noticed the slight limp I had along with the large blood stain on my dress. She raised her eyes from the halls to me, "Are you alright, child?" she questioned, her voice never showing a bit of sympathy.
I wasn't quite sure why she called me child since she looked like she was still in her late 20's, but I wasn't going to question her. I simply sighed quietly, "I'm ok…" I murmured looking down at my feet.
She nodded, "Your name is Kana? You were a kunoichi from Sunagakure?" she asked trying to verify the information she had overheard.
"Yes. I am." I answered lifting my eyes to her.
She nodded again as we entered into a small room. Konan walked over to a chest that was placed the opposite of the room. It creaked slightly as she lifted up the lid and pulled out a cloak identical to hers. She eyed the cloak for a second before giving it to me. "I don't think that this will fit, but try it on so I see how big it is on you." she advised as I held the black and red cloak in my hands.
I nodded and slowly put it on. I winced a bit from the sharp pain I felt in my side from stretching to put the cloak on. Once I had it on the collar went up almost past my eyes and the end of it dragged on the floor. Konan just sighed, "You really are a small thing." she muttered as she went looking back into the chest.
As she looked through the chest, I slowly took off the cloak. I didn't want to put on another. When I had put the first one on I felt like I was separating myself from anything and everything that I once held close to me. "Here." Konan said as she handed me a different one and took the one I held in my hand. "It has a hood, but it is the smallest thing we have." she explained looking at the cloak.
I sighed as I slipped on to the cloak. It fell down to about 2 inches above my ankles and had the hood, so there was no issue with the collar. The demonic looking black cloak with red clouds fit, which partially killed me on the inside. Konan nodded and then looked to my bloody outfit, "Here, there are some old clothes in here," she offered as she walked over to the closet.
"I think they should fit you. Best not you wear your old Sunagakure clothing. There is also some wrapping gauze in there too, so you can clean yourself up." Konan tried to be helpful to me, but nothing could make me feel better.
"Thank you..." I gave a weak smile to the blue haired woman.
She nodded once and began to walk toward the door, but stopped before she left. "One last thing, do you have your headband?" she questioned.
My back was to her and I felt the hot tears form in my eyes. I just bit my lip as they fell and quickly shook my head. "Alright then. I will be back in an hour to get you." she stated as she closed the door.
Once I heard the door latch, I just clutched the cloak and let my tears fall onto it as I glared at the red clouds. I just wanted to break down. At that moment I knew that I'd never go home, that I'd never see anyone I loved again, that I was no longer someone would look up to, that I was now a missing nin, and I could do nothing about it.
For a few moments I let the tears fall, but did not whimper, no, I could no longer whimper or act weak around these people. I needed to be strong. I let out a deep breath and walked over to the closet to look for something. I grabbed a sleeveless fishnet shirt and a form fitting black top that had sliver buttons on the front and was cut about 3 inches above my belly button. The top was also sleeveless, yet narrowed as it reached my neck, showing off part of my pronounced collar bones and part of the fish netting; it also had a small collar that closely hugged about one inch of my neck.
I then reached for a pair of white skin tight shorts that ended on my upper thigh. I buttoned a short black skirt that had a slit on the right side, which revealed the white shorts. I looked in a small mirror that was in the room. It was quite different from what I had been wearing earlier, more dark and revealing. You could see about half of the Gypsy tattoos on my back because of the high cut shirt, but I suppose it didn't make much of a difference if they were hidden or not. Realizing this, quickly I reached for the sash I had worn on my hips with the crossed out Desert Gypsy symbol on it and retied it tightly around my hips. I was never going to let myself let go of the one thing that showed my severance from my past.
I sighed and walked over to where the wrapping was. I grabbed about 4 little spools and began to wrap my right ankle that had been damaged from Deidara's final explosion. Once that was completely wrapped, I moved on to my upper left thigh where I'd normally keep a small pouch with kunai and whatnot in it. Wrapping that only took about one spool, yet then I looked over to the final area I had to wrap, the curse seals on the underneath of my right forearm.
I stared at the seals that had been there ever since I was a child. The ones that initiated the Blood Possession, the ones that were desired by many, yet only belonged to two. I hated them; they burdened me, yet they had kept me alive and safe for so long. I shook my head and began to wrap them up in order to hide them until they were needed.
Once I was finished, I pulled on a small pair of black gloves that had the finger tips cut off. I then snatched the hooded cloak of the ground and threw it on. I gently pulled my moonstone pendent out, so that it was visible as I wore the coat. My eyes gazed up at the person who looked back at me in the mirror. I wished it wasn't me, but it was, and this was now my life.
*Omniscient
Pein waited as Konan led the young ninja out of the room. Once he could no longer hear the two's footsteps, he looked over to Itachi. "How did she fight?" he questioned, curious about this girl that he had just brought into the Akatsuki.
"She nearly killed Deidara less than 5 minutes into the fight." Itachi answered as he looked at the leader's Rinnegan eyes.
"Killed him?" Pein questioned. Deidara was a long distance fighter, and Kana seemed to be short range. Deidara should have been able to win that battle.
Itachi nodded, "Yes, her teammate was able to cut him with a kunai and then gave the bloody blade to her in exchange for the child she was holding and then he left for backup." Itachi recalled the fight against the 16 year old girl.
"He left her alone against the three of you?" Pein questioned narrowing his eyes. A move like that either signaled a foolish team or a very powerful ninja. Kana had been on Sunagakure's strongest jonin team, which eliminated the idea of a foolish team, meaning that her teammate trusted in her ability enough to hold off three rogues until backup arrived.
"Yes, he left right after she received Deidara's blood. She seemed to wipe the blood on seals that are carved into her right forearm. She didn't perform any hand seals though, just made small movements with her hand, but they seemed to injury Deidara internally," Itachi reported, still unsure on what exactly Kana had done.
Pein nodded. He had been able to get some information about this Kekkei Genkai. With one drop of another's blood, the user would smear it across a collection of seals that they had been born with and then they would be able to have complete control over whoever's blood they had. It was a very powerful Kekkei Genkai and he hadn't seen a repercussion from it, yet only two ninja were known to have it, The Gypsy Siblings of the Desert.
Pein had looked into both of the siblings. Having both together as a team would have been prime, yet he also knew that would never happen, so he had to choose between the two. He had noticed that there seemed a bit of a difference between Kana and her brother's Blood Possession and the ways they used it. Kana would internally wound her victims and use them as a deal breaker or just simply kill them, whereas Kane would actually control the movements of the victim. He figured that both could probably function either way, but in the end Kana was more valuable than Kane due to her more powerful Blood Possession and the fact that the Akatsuki need a full-fledged medical ninja now with Itachi and Deidara in the organization.
"How bad were Deidara's injuries?" Pein questioned, more interested in how intense Kana had harmed the Iwagakure ninja than how he actually was.
Itachi thought back to the night before when Kana had treated Deidara like he was someone she had known for years, "She said something about his lung being crushed and intensive internal bleeding. Kana told him that he would die if she didn't heal him." Itachi explained.
Pein raised his eyebrow slightly, "How did you capture her then?" he questioned even though he already had a rough guess. She was a Sand shinobi, so she was probably used too Sasori and his puppet techniques and if Deidara couldn't make her surrender with explosives, then it was probably Itachi who got her trapped in a genjutsu.
"Her genjutsu isn't the strongest. I just trapped her in an illusion and threated to kill her teammate and the child that they were taking back to the village… What really got her to surrender was the thought of us going after her older brother. Once she heard that if we couldn't get her, we'd capture the brother instead, she almost instantly gave in" Itachi explained.
"Interesting..." Pein thought to himself. She really cared enough about her family to give herself up? That could a pivotal factor in the future. He then moved on to the next point in his questions for Itachi, "What about her personality? Does she mimic any of the other members?" the leader asked secretly hoping that she wouldn't be like Deidara or Hidan.
Itachi frowned slightly. He couldn't really explain Kana's personality. Truthfully, he wanted to know more about this girl. She was just so different than from everything he had seen. He couldn't contemplate or figure out the reason of her acting, yet he was almost determined to find out. Finally Itachi spoke, "She's... caring. She puts others in front of herself. From what I've seen she doesn't mimic anyone here." Itachi did his best, yet this girl was just hard for him to understand.
Pein nodded, "You've done well. Kisame will be waiting in the tea shop in the small village that borders Amegakure and the Land of Fire."
Itachi nodded and began exiting the room. At that moment he knew that he was going to see this girl again and he was going to understand her and the ways she lived and looked at things. Her story and his seemed to have parallels from what he had heard, yet he was going to see for himself.
As Itachi left the building, Konan reentered the room in which Pein was. She sighed slightly as she walked over to the balcony where Pein was now sitting once again. She joined him and watched as the rain fell over the village as they had been before Itachi and Kana had arrived. She looked over to her partner and asked quietly, "Do you really think it is wise to have taken in four members who are still teenagers?"
Pein continued to look at the falling rain. Yes, he did realize that Itachi, Hidan, Deidara, and Kana were all very young, yet at the same time they had done enough and had enough power to get into the organization. "They will be molded. It will make them more powerful as they grow up." he stated.
"All at once though? Hidan is disrespectful, Deidara is impulsive, Itachi is detached, and Kana... she's just so innocent..." Konan murmured slightly frowning.
"I know what I am doing. They all have the skills that will benefit us and the organization." Pein analyzed the four ninja.
Silence came upon Konan. She did feel a slight bit of sorrow for the girl. It was easy to tell that she did not want to be here; that she wanted to be back home. Unlike every other member of the Akatsuki, she had done nothing to rebel against her village; they had just taken and forced her to join. Obviously she had a life back in here village, a family, a group of friends, maybe a lover. She didn't know; all Konan knew was that they had basically ruined a young girl's life.
"Don't pity her." Pein ordered noticing Konan's silence. "She may seem innocent, but she is far from it."
"What do you mean she's be taken into the Akatsuki!? You told us they weren't active! " the Fourth Kazekage shot up from his desk as Kane and Hiro, two of his highest jonin stood before him and the Elders.
Kane kept a stoic face. Gaining information on the Akatsuki was a small side project he had been assigned, yet it was near impossible to find out anything about the mysterious and infamous organization due to their inactivity. "The information we had pointed to them being inactive at the moment." the 18 year old stated.
The Kazekage held the bridge of his nose as he tried to sort through what one of his top battle coordinators was telling him. He narrowed his eyes as he looked at the two boys in their late teens, "Do you know anything about the whereabouts of this organization or anything of where Kana could have been taken to?"
Kane shot a glance over to the two Elders who stood over to the left of the Kazekage, "No. The Elders ordered me to put little to none focus on the matter, so we have no valuable information at all." he reported in a serious voice.
"Well! What do you suggest then!" the female Elder snapped at Kane, not liking to take the blame of the loss of an important ninja.
Kane let out a small sigh, "The Sand Siblings are already on their way to Konoha with Baki for the Chuunin Exams. We need to finish through with this plan." Kane admitted looking back to the Kazekage.
The Kazekage thought for a moment. Kana was a critical point in this plan along with Kane. "Do you think you can control the Shukaku alone, without your sister?" he questioned unsure on whether or not one person could control the One Tail.
For a moment Kane just stood there a mulled over the risks and consequences of controlling the beast single handedly. It put an immense amount of strain on both him and Kana when they had to control it together, but alone...? Kane would be the one to stop the beast from moving while Kana would cause injury to it, which made it lose its control. If he possessed it by himself and complete both parts... then there was the slight chance that the Kekkei Genkai would get out of control, and that would cause a major problem, but it had never happened to him yet. He nodded, "...Yes." he breathed out still unsure.
Hiro looked over to his closest friend. Was he really choosing this damn plan over his little sister, which was the one person he would die for? No... This was Kane, and Kane had protected Kana from everything. Kana was everything to Kane. "Kane... This is Kana...She's gone..." Hiro muttered.
"You think I don't realize that!" Kane yelled at the white haired boy. "I know that it is my sister! I want to go searching for her and bring her home, but we know nothing about these criminals! If they were powerful enough to take out our strongest female ninja, then they are serious threat. From what you saw, they know about us, yet we know nothing about them. We cannot go after an organization that we have no insights on!" Kane snapped.
Hiro just glared at him. That was the one bad thing about Kane; he used his head in everything he did. Hiro himself wanted to go and search for Kana; she was more than a friend, yet he also realized that he need to obey orders and the orders were to stay and follow through with the invasion of Konoha.
"What are you saying...?" The Kazekage looked to Kane for a final say about his little sister.
He didn't want to say it. Kane felt the sorrow and pain inside of him, but he there was a reason he was the top battle coordinator at 18. Kane kept a strong and serious voice as he spoke even though he wished he didn't have to, "… We can't go after Kana until we know what we are up against… We have lost our top female ninja… Team 3 is done until we can bring her back."
