Communique for James Kirk from Leonard McCoy
Hey Jim.
I hate this place. No, actually, I take that back. I hate the doctor I work with. She's very nice, too nice it's annoying. I'm authorized to work as a nurse, but she won't let me. Treats me like I'm twelve or something. At least the other doctors I've talked to treat me my age,(oh, they talk down occasionally too, but hey! I'm cadet, of course they do) and most of the nurses.
I'm allowed to go wherever I want in the City thought. I like it. I'd never been anywhere big for very long before San Francisco and this place is built way differently than San Francisco.
Hop you like your starship, I've heard that Captain Daver is a strict one.

L. M,
How's training going? I've never been to N.Y.C.
Campus is different without any sophs around. I just realized how often I was around just sophs. I'm bored too much now.
Working on restoring another old vehicle, a motorboat. Once I finish it I'll go boating. It's really slow-going, maybe all you sophs'll be back by then.
I'm not very good at writing. If you want to talk to me, just call please.
sincerely,
M.S
Postscript: I think I'll design a starship.
Spock measured out various chemicals for Lieutenant Parse. He had been at the base for a week and had fallen into a routine. Spock picked up two vials and carried them over to the Lieutenant.
"Thank you. I won't be needing more help for now, so you can go. Check back in in an hour."
"Sir." said Spock and left the room.
"Cadet!" the base's CMO walked up to him. He was an older human man with a sharp wit and sharper tongue.
"Yes, doctor?"
"Come on, get yourself to sick bay. You've been here a whole freaking week and you still haven't gotten your physical. Hurry up!"
"I assure you I am in p-"
"No excuses! Move it, Cadet!" Spock sped up his pace and headed for the infirmary, followed by the doctor.
"Cadet!" the doctor said when they entered the infirmary.
"Yes, do-"
"Not you. Cadet!"
"Yes, sir?" said a familiar voice. Christine Chapel entered the front room of the infirmary.
"Get a medical scanner, standard well-check. I'll be in my office." the CMO left.
"I thought you were in New Berlin." said Christine.
"I was posted here instead." Spock sat down on one of the bio-beds. Christine started scanning him
"Do you like it?"
"I neither like nor dislike it. I have found though that very few people are comfortable around me."
"They aren't used to Vulcans." She looked at the display the tricorder. "You're fit for duty." Spock got down and moved to leave.
"Wait!"
"Yes?"
"Um, well, there's no one here our age besides us so would you maybe want to get together later? Just talk or something? I really need to get away from Doctor Creed."
"When does your shift end?"
"Oh-Six-hundred."
"As does mine. I'll meet you here."
"Great! See you then."
"Goodbye, Christine." Spock left.
Jim rushed back to his quarters and flopped on his bed. His duties were similar to that of an ensign He ran errands, lab assistant work, monitored equipment in engineering, that sort of thing. There were only two places he didn't work: sickbay and the bridge, he intended to change the second one.
He got his PADD and finished the letter he was sending to Spock and Bones.
Communique for Leonard McCoy and Spock from James Kirk.
Hi!
How's your week gone? I'm okay. I just sort of work like an ensign. I like it, But I wish I worked on the bridge. I'll find a way up there though.
I haven't met the Captain, but I have met the first officer, he's awesome! He's really nice, but not a pushover.
I've been hanging out with this group of ensigns in my spare time. Joan Brisby, David Morin, Brianna Ling(whose a nurse), and Neeraz. ( Neeraz is Andorian, he's very interesting.)
I'll send you both personal letters later, bye!
~James T. Kirk

I have a question for you: since you've been around other alien species more than I have, can you tell me what to do and not do around Neeraz, because I've never met another Andorian.
I talked to Janice yesterday, she said Christine's at your base too. Isn't that great? Maybe you two can finally get a little closer, don't say there's no point, because there is.
Once a week I have to work Gamma Shift in engineering, starting tonight so I'm just going to send this how it is. BYE!
~James T. Kirk
Communique for Spock from James Kirk
It's too bad you don't like your boss, at least you can leave the base when your shift is done. I've heard it's a cool place.
You actually let people talk down to you? That's not like you, normally you'd give anyone who'd try a heaping dose of sarcasm. I get bossed and sorta shoved around too though, even by some of the older ensigns.
I really have to go, I'll send longer letters once I get used to everything. And once my life gets interesting. (aka. once I find a way to work on the bridge.)
~James T. Kirk.
Leonard leaned against a wall in sickbay reading the letters he'd gotten that week. He had way to much free time on his hands because Dr. Braith didn't trust him to do anything.
He'd have to remember to call Scotty, it didn't surprise him that Scotty wasn't much for letter writing. He read the letters from Jim.
What the heck? Oh crap.
Communique for Spock from Leonard McCoy.
Hey Hobgoblin,
My week went fine, besides annoying, demeaning superior. I'm sure yours was satisfactory too. But more importantly, did you get a weird letter from Jim? I'd write more, but really, I don't have much else to say right now.
Communique for Leonard McCoy from Spock.
Greetings,
My week was satisfactory. And I did receive a strange communique from James. Nothing in it was relevant. But given your brief remark in your equally brief communique I have a theory. I believe I received your letter.
Communique for Spock from Leonard McCoy.
If our letters which switched because Jim sent them to the wrong people(which is really stupid of him. Why couldn't he check to make sure you put the right name in before sending?) then the letter I got makes WAY more sense. You do know Chapel's at your base right? At least that's what Jim said.
I guess I should make this an actual letter or something. Dr. Braith is annoying, the two nurses I work with are okay though. NYC is a cool place. And I learned how much I love turbolifts after the one in my building broke down today and I had to take the stairs. Bye.
Your ex/future roommate,
L. McCoy.
" Hold the lift!" a middle age man stepped into the turbolift next to Kirk, he stepped over.
"Deck three." the turbolift started to move.
"Hello, I'm James T. Kirk. The cadet."
"I know who you are Cadet." said the man, now obviously British. "I requested you. I'm Captain Daver. Don't talk." he looked James over. "You're from America?"
"Yes, sir."
"Well, you make up for that quite well."
"Thank you, I think. Sir, did you really request me, sir?"
"I did, I heard about your request to serve here, and I turned it down, but I kept tabs on you, because you seemed like you had quite a bit of potential Then you pulled your little stunt and I changed my mind, you don't show any potential at all."
"Sir?"
"Potential means you haven't done anything yet, and you have. You know what you want. Which is why I wanted to give you the best start possible." the turbolift doors opened and the Captain got off. "Good to officially meet you, Cadet. Keep up your duties, and don't let the ensigns boss you around." He turned to leave. Jim stood in the doorway.
"Captain, I want to work on the bridge." he said quickly. Captain Daver turned around.
"There are some things you have to wait for."
"I know the helm as well as any ensign."
"You are out of line, Cadet. Return to your duties." and the captain walked away.
I WILL work on the bridge. Thought Jim.
Communique for Leonard McCoy from Spock.
Greetings.
I am fully aware that Christine is at the Mars base. She chose to come here to be near her family as she does not return home at designated vacation periods.
My duties are mostly confined to that of an ensign, and my main duty is working as the lab assistant to Lieutenant Gregory Parse, which is fortunate as he is one of only three people on the base who seem entirely at ease around me. The other two being the station director and Chapel.
I assume I will converse with you soon, despite the fact we will see each other in under five months.
~Spock
There will be more letters from the other characters in the next chapter. That one from Scotty was in there on special request from The Enterprise. (Or ZenaraTheDragon, whatever you prefer.) A speical thanks to all my reviewers especially:
