Chapter 2: The Flock
"School?" Jacob said confused, "Do you mean this school?" He stared at the girl in a look on confusion, to him it was pretty obvious that they had escaped the school, well more accurately they had flown above the school.
Angel stared back pensively and then look at Jacob with a look of question in her eye, "I know that we've flown over the school, idiot?" a voice rang out in Jacob's head, "The real question is however, who are you and why do you have wings?" He looked around for whoever was speaking to him, when no one showed up in his field of vision he started to contemplate whether or not he was going crazy.
Angel giggled, "You look like you've seen a ghost, you alright?" she asked while she flew around him, "Well since you're not really much of a talker than, how about we hang out for a lunch period?" She stopped in the air and looked at him with a friendly smile,
"Look I'm glad that you're not really all that afraid of me like you were back there, but I don't really have friends and I have an even tougher time keeping them when I make them ." Jacob said his wings starting to get tired, " So let's do us both a favor and forget we ever saw each other-" He started, a fist came flying out of nowhere and caught Jacob off guard making him fall to the ground and land on his back knocking the wind out of him.
When he looked up he saw a tall boy with olive skin and dark clothing glaring back at him positioned right in front of Angel, "Listen normally I would say that it would be a good idea to leave you alone like you said," The boy tensed as he continued glaring back at Jacob, "However there have been a few attacks on my family from people like you." The boy spread his almost black wings in the sunlight and flew up and then folded his wings in, charging at Jacob.
Having on a little time to stand up before being carried off Jacob braced himself for what was coming, "You're not allowed to fight in school!" The voice of his mother rang out in his head reminding him of all the time he had fought previously, "I don't know what would happened if anyone else saw you and I couldn't handle you being taken away from me! Now promise me no more fighting." He gritted his teeth and closed his eyes as the kid in black slammed into him once again knocking the breath out of his body.
The boy in black wasted no time as he climbed on top of Jacob and began punching him in every place possible, Jacob sucking up his pride took every one of the kids punches and even felt gutsy enough to smile and give the kid a mocking smile and asked "That all?"
"This is for Gazzy freak." The kid drew his fist back and connected with Jacob jawline making his ears begin to ring and his vision went black, in that moment Jacob felt something click in his mind, "That guy has totally go to be that girls boyfriend, and the reason he's beating up on me was because I was talking to his girl." Jacob sighed inwardly and made a promise to avoid them, after all he did promise not to fight anyone to his mother.
Sunlight filled Jacob vision as he opened his eyes and began to pick himself off of the ground, he silently thankful that no one ever came to the student parking unless it was lunch time. Dusting himself off he looked around at his body making sure that nothing was broken, "Well everything looks good and it looks like my clothes are only slightly ripped too." He mumbled to himself while looking at his now torn black denim short and clicked his tongue, "Can't ever seem to catch a break." He sighed and stood up looking at the morning sky, hating that fact that he went through with his promise.

The morning class bell shook Jacob out of his thoughts and he once again sighed and picked up his bag from the hidden cab in his bike and began to walk to class. "I wonder who that girl was, now that I think about it I don't think I caught her name." He scratched his head and shrugged, "Well sinus how her boyfriend thinks I'm a threat I don't think I'll be seeing her anytime soon." As he walked he thought about the crazy events this morning and he shook his head not wanting to analyze any deeper than his previous idea, He stopped outside of his Home Ec. door and sighed before opening it and felt at ease as he looked at the tables big enough for three people to sit in and smiled as he saw that all five rows in the class were filled.
"So nice of you to join us, Mr. Helic, many of your fellow students were beginning to wonder if you would show." Said the charming voice of his Home Ec. Teacher Dr. Martinez, " To be honest you've never missed a class since your freshman year I began to worry myself." She smiled at Jacob making his knees turn to jello as he struggled to remember how to speak.
Personally it always confused Jacob why a doctor was teaching in his Home Ec but for as many injury's that everyone else had in the class he was grateful, "I'm sorry, I had some other stuff to take care of real quick." He replied giving an earnest look to the teacher while scratching his head. The doctor smiled and told him to find his seat.
"Alright class," Dr. Martinez moved toward one of the classes pantries and pulled out a bag of chocolate chips, a canister of oatmeal and an assortment of bowls and pants along with a hand mixer, "Anyone want to be brave and guess what we're making today?" she asked setting the ingredients and tools on one of the tables.
"Were making inflatable barf!" screamed out someone in the class making a giggles and smiles flash through the room, Jacob took the opportunity and sat in the back of the class next to a girl with brown hair and green glasses that you could easily mistake for a joke glasses.
"Well no Mr. Smith we are still not making inflatable barf." Dr. Martinez said after putting more bags of chocolate chips and mixing bowls and other stuff on all of the tables, "In fact I don't think that Chocolate chip cookies really count as barf in an quality." She said walking back the front of the class and turned smiling at everyone.
Jacob frowned, chocolate chip cookies? The one thing that he always had trouble with making was staring at him right in his face, "So you all have until the end of this class period to make Chocolate chip cookies according the handouts that I had Holly pass out at earlier." Jacobs stomach sank lower as he began to look through the bowl on his table,, "Oh and extra credit to anyone who feels up to make a cookie for the cookie contest and even more credit if you place."
When the class heard that it seemed that almost everyone was set on getting the extra credit, Jacob sighed debating wither or not he should go for the gold or just sit back and skate by. On the one hand Jacob could skate by and no one would really care he was a B average student who never gets in trouble or makes a name for himself.
"Damn I guess that we can blow everyone else out of the water, but the question is should we?" He mumbled to himself, Jacob had no doubts to his ability to cook after enduring ten years of learning in his moms kitchen and when you learn under his mom, you start to look for every detail and every little thing that can be improved. It even got so bad as the point where Jacob would bring his mother his food before he even fed it to anyone else in the house.
"Yes, I-I think we should." Said a small voice, Jacob jumped forgetting that he was in class for a minute as he looked over at his partners now eager, blue eyes staring at him in apprehension. "I want to see the look on everyones faces when I show them that my spice food can be sweet too!" She exclaimed making everyone around the class giggle and look at her in skepticism.
"NO way you can do that." Replied a girl with tan hair, "If you do that, then what's the point of spice? It's only meant to be hot and not for much else loser." The girl flipped her hair and smiled mockingly at Jacob partner as everyone in the class followed suit.
Jacob felt a pang of Anger as he saw the way that the girl was being treated, "Well alright," He said standing up and prepping on his table, if you want to then I'll help you make the spiciest sweet cookie." He said giving her a smile causing his partner to give a small smile back.
The tan haired girl however was not liking that there was someone, who was not agreeing with her, "Hey look at this, careful Jacob you might get her hopes up." She said snidely her voice low while folding her arms across her chest, "After all everyone here knows how in love with you she is." By now everyone was prepping or already working on the recipe and only a few people were watching or listening
Jacob shrugged, "Well even if she is in love with me," He began while turning behind him to grab his ingredients, "I think I'd go for her rather than you." He closed the door and set his ingredients on the table ignoring the look of shock on the both girls faces, the tan haired girl turned flipped her hair and began working (more like orderings other around her).
Jacob turned to his partner and gave her a smile, "I'm sorry about that, people can be jerks." His partner looked at him blushed and shook her head, "It's fine." She said turning to go through the spice rack her voice emotionless, "I'm used to it." Jacob frowned and said, "Well if it's alright, I know this great Three Pepper Spiced Cookies recipe if you wanna try it."
"Yeah sure." His partner replied her voice still emotionless, "I'll try not to drag you down." Jacob smiled and unconsciously patted her on the back laughed and said, "Please when it comes to making cookies, you'll find that I'm no master chef." That made his partner calm down but also earned a few apprehensive looks from the other girls in the class.
"By the way what's your name?" He asked while he was making the dough, he looked over at her and saw her open her mouth to reply but felt time slow down as he saw his partner trip, throwing her blend of chili powder and cinnamon. Jacob unintentionally turned and caught her then reached his hand out and caught the bowl her blend was in and then caught the entire blend.
"You alright?" He asked looking at his partner, her face was bright red and she looked as if he was close to tears, "I'm sorry." Jacob said standing his partner up and looking nervously over the crowd that was now watching them.
"Did you see how fast he moved?"
"He just appeared."
As the class began to get excited Dr. Martinez called for everyone to get back to work and for Jacob and His partner to see her after class.
