Enjoy.

"Was that thunder?" Kirk asked, lifting up his head.

"It is supposed to rain today." Spock said. "I would not be surprised if it was." Bones sighed loudly. It had rained nearly every day for a week. Kirk was fine with it, it brought the temperature down briefly and he liked that. Spock didn't seem to care but Bones hated rain.

"I guess it's not so bad." said Kirk a moment later when the rain did begin to fall.

Bones hit his head against the desk and muttered a curse.

"Language, Bones, Language."

"I don't really give a-" sudden lightning. more cursing, this time from Kirk. Spock raised an eyebrow. "it's only lightning.

"It looked like it was like, two feet away!" thunder rumbled.

"Try two miles." Bones said to him. "God, I hate rain."

"Why?" asked Kirk, it's just a thunderstorm." more lightning, more thunder.

"I don't know, I just don't. I'm not afraid of storms they just...they annoy me. what about you Spock?" Bones asked the Vulcan.

"To be honest, while I do understand the cause of such storms as these and their need to manage and regulate Earth's climate I find them...excessive. for example this one rainstorm will equate up to two times the annual rainfall on Vulcan." Spock said, looking out the window.

"One storm!?" Kirk said. "wow...anyway, storm means that we're stuck inside, so I have some stuff to discuss, gentlemen."

"We aren't actually 'stuck' inside, James, it isn't raining hard enough for that. furthermore most places of interest on campus can be reached without going outside-"

"-Shush, Spock, you're ruining the moment. now." Kirk clapped his hands. "Since our dear Bones has decided to abandon us for some far inferior school to Startfleet Academy at the end of the semester-"

"-The University of Louisiana is a great school! And I'm s-"

"-Interrupting is rude, Bones. Anyway. since Bones has decided to abandon us, we're going to throw a party."

"...you're throwing me a going away party?"

"Um, yeah." Kirk said. "We have to! You're going away for forever and ever!"

"You could still see me it's not like I'm dying!"

"But you'll be so. very. far. awayyyyy."

"Stop whining like a little kid, you can just use a teleport."

"...valid point but mine still stands. we're having a going away party."

"Excuse me." Spock said, lightning flashing behind him. "but what exactly is a 'going away' party? I can make a logical assumption based upon what it is called, but what is it's significance?"

"Well basically." began Jim. "when someone moves away or leave or whatever, traditionally on Earth the people they're moving away from throw them a going away party. to show we care about them."

"Or that they're happy you're leaving." Bones added over another clap of thunder. "ugh, when is a freaking storm gonna be finished?"

"So we will be celebrating Leonard's departure?"

"Kinda. but in a nice way where we really wish he wasn't running off to go to school somewhere boring.

"Jim kirk. after living with you for two and a half years I would give my right hand for some 'boring'." Bones said.

"Glad to see I'm liked." Huffed Jim. "and it's only been two years, sophomore training semester didn't count."

"fine. two years of slowly losing my mind."

Jim glared. "am I really that bad?"

"yes, you are!" Bones said. Spock looked back and forth, listening to the two.

"Well then why didn't you ever request a room transfer?!"

"Because even if a did you'd bother me! you're like a parasite! useless and hard ot get rid of!"

"Well excuse me! I know you came here to study-so did I-but I was open to enjoying myself too, unlike you who has to complain complain complain about every little thing!"

"I wouldn't if you didn't give me a reason to!" lightning flashed behind them.

"well luckily you'll be at your nice single dormroom over a thousand miles from here. and I'm sure you'll have nothing to complain about there!"

"does everything have to be about the fact I think it'd be a better choice for my life to attend a different school?"

"you aren't even giving Starfleet a chance!"

"you aren't giving anything else a chance, Jim! And you know why? because you're a Starfleet brat who's too wrapped up in his little fantasy of making daddy proud to consider that there are other options in life than to roam the galaxy."

"That's not true!" Kirk snapped as thunder rumbled outside the window. "maybe you're just a xenophobe, is that it?"

"um, excuse me? which of us in this room actually dated an a non-human and which of us can't get past a first date with one?" Kirk's ears were starting to turn red.

Spock kept observing in silence. the pair had never argued much beyond fairly friendly bickering. but since Leonard had said he was leaving Starfleet the two seemed more agitated with each other than Leonard ever was with Spock.

"Fine! Excuse me!"

"Where are you going!?"

"I don't know, but I'm not coming back in here and spending the night with a spoiled Starfleet brat like you!" McCoy left. Thunder rumbled again, but Kirk just added to it by kicking the desl and swearing.

"did that make you feel better?" asked Spock.

"Yes."

"Did it hurt?"

"yeah..."

"so humans consider pain healing? intriguing."

"shut up, you can't understand Spock." Kirk said, sitting down.

Spock raised an eyebrow. "the two of you constantly insist that I embrace my human side, and yet, the moment you two start fighting I 'can't understand' your state of emotional distress at your best friend leaving?"

"he's not my best friend, that's you."

"I believe-considering everything over the past two years-it's both of us. And as a...friend of you both, I understand Bones' decision and your reaction."

"alright then, why is he leaving?"

"potentially many reasons, but the main one I see is the pressure." Kirk looked at him. "what pressure?"

"the pressure to succeed. his family is supportive of his choice to be a doctor, but not to be in Starfleet. which means if he stayed in Starfleet he would have to do incredibly well to prove to them it was a good choice." Kirk sighed.

"that's really it? isn't this just showing them they were right?"

"maybe they were." Bones was in the doorway, coming back in. "this is all stupid." Bones mumbled, "all the fighting. look, it's not just what Spock's thinking, but it kind of is. it's also, things."

"what kind of things?" prodded Kirk.

"Things like, wondering. I mean, if I ever really want to explore the stars or whatever I can always enlist as a doctor once school's done. granted that sends any chance at rank out the airlock, but I can. here i could...start a family. see this world, be near my family, current and future."

"then it's doubt." said Spock. "you doubt the future."

"well everyone does that." Kirk said, rolling his eyes. "no reason to give yours up."

"I'm not though! I'm changing it..." Bones sighed. "I don't know...maybe I need the time away." Kirk sighed.

"Hey, bones?"

"what?"

"you still ticked at me?"

"yeah, you ticked at me?"

"very."

"...let's go out for drinks."

"okay." Spock raised an eyebrow. Kirk smiled at the Vulcan. "Come on, we're going to go drown Bones' problem in beer! wanna join us?"

"I will, if only to help you both stumble back to Campus in one piece." Bones smiled very slightly. he was going to miss these dorks.

"hey, the rain's done."

"all the better, let's go."

Bones followed Kirk and Spock out of the room. was he totally sure of his decision to leave? Well, no, he was less sure now. but he was sure of something. He wanted to keep these two weird, annoying, remarkable young men who had become so important to him so fast as friends.

Weak ending, I know, but I'm just filling up the fall semester until we can get to Christmas break...which is also why updates are taking so long. I hate writing filler, sorry guys. =P. I might just skip ahead, now, what do you guys want? tell me in the reviews!
