Getting kicked out of two bars and singing the starfleet anthem until passing out was not exactly how Bones had pictured his friend's visit going. Although he didn't remember doing any of that until he went to take a shower and the door opened right before he touched the handle and Spock came out.
He shouted, surprised then stepped out of Spock's way. "Geeze, don't scare me like that!"
"My apologies, I did not intend to Startle you Leonard."
"well you did. now where is Jim?"
"I believe he is sharing a room with a young woman fro-"
"oh yeah. Kelly." Bones groaned. "We have to go find him..."
Half an hour later they had Jim back in Bones' room and had gotten breakfast for all three of them. Jim happily ate breakfast, seeming to have no hangover, no regrets, and no worries about Bones chewing him out.
"And stupid! Very stupid!" He said. "You can't run off like that you don't know this place at all you're lucky we fond you!"
"I would've been fine. I would've found myself a phone or a communications terminal and gotten a hold of you." He assured them "besides wasn't it all worth it to have a good time for once?"
"I've had plenty of good times while I've been here." Bones said. "just not with friends..."
"Exactly. Man needs companionship Bones. and Not just from a lady friend. although that's pretty good too." He mused. Bones groaned.
"Okay. Maybe. But don't run off like that again!" He said. "Now are you two staying here all day or what?"
"Did you have plans?" Spock asked
"I have Class oh and a girlfriend who I owe some time before I leave." Bones said. "So yes. I sorta had plans."
"Then we'll hang around here until tonight and say goodbye and head out then-right Spock?" Jim asked
"I have no other engagements."
"So you're just going to stay here until I get back?" Leonard asked
"yup."
"of course." He sighed. "Well don't get in too much trouble and I guess that's fine."
"great!" Bones stood up and got his bag.
"I'll see you tonight then but I really have to go." and he left
"Leonard? I'm here with-Who are you?" Jocelyn was greeted when she entered Bone's dorm room by two young men sitting on the floor playing tri-D chess. One of which-she noted-was an Alien. A Vulcan.
"Oh, are you Jocelyn? I'm Jim Kirk, and this is Spock." Jim stood up and went up to her and held out his hand to shake hers, smiling charmingly.
She didn't shake his hand. Instead she stepped around him and put the books she was holding on the bed. "I was just returning those." she informed them.
"Oh. Um. Do you want to stay? Play some Chess? Are Game is almost done."
"I don't know how to play."
"Spock can teach you! He taught me apparently it's basically a kid's game on Vulcan-"
"-I'm not interested in playing some E.T's version of checkers." She said bluntly, tossing Spock a look that the Vulcan didn't respond to, but that Kirk didn't take too kindly to seeing.
"Don't talk about him like that!"
"Like what? E. T. Extra. Terrestrial. Outside Earth. Is he from outside Earth?"
"I am." Spock said. "And the term is not offensive, Jim. It's mainly Starfleet humans who seem to believe that it is."
"Probably because they don't like people calling them out on their slowly fading humanity. Nice meeting you." Jocelyn whipped around.
But Kirk wasn't done. "If you hate Starfleet so much why are you dating a Starfleet student?"
"I'm not." she turned back to face him, arms crossed. "I'm dating a future doctor who's made it clear plenty of times that he wants to be stationed on Earth and tried to leave Starfleet. but now he's going back. Because of you two."
"That's not true. He's coming back because he wants to." Kirk insisted.
"Because of you all. And because people here don't like him because he went to Starfleet-nevermind that he dropped out! And now he's going back and chances are he'll end up on some starship traveling the galaxy because some alien sitting behind a desk in San Francisco decided he should be there instead of at a sleepy little Starfleet-run clinic in the Old States where he'd be happiest."
"And how do you know that's where he'd be happiest?" demanded Kirk
"Because He told me? Did he tell you? Probably, but I guess you forgot. I'm sure you were very busy training to be a captain though to remember a detail like that." She stuck out her hand to shake his. "I have to go. Nice meeting you. And I hope you have a nice summer and school year-maybe you can all room together again?"
Jim gave her a cold look but shook her hand. "I hope so too. Goodbye. Jocelyn."
"Bye." she let go of his hand and nodded to Spock and left, shutting the door firmly behind herself.
"James? Jim." Spock stood up, coming by Kirk when he didn't come sit back down after a moment.
"She's right. Bones'll be happier wrangling himself a post on Earth or just resigning from Starfleet and as fast as he can...I don't know." Jim said.
"The only person who can Leonard's contentment with his situation and what he ought to do in the end, is Leonard." Spock said. "Her words are inconsequential and purely emotionally driven."
"I know. I know." He said. "Let's just finish our game. and Bones'll come back and we'll get dinner and head home. To the Academy I mean."
"I knew where you meant."
"I know." Jim finally moved to sit back down and finish their game. Spock did the same, both young men trying to distract themselves from Jocelyn's words with the game of wits.
