Theme Song
One door has closed, another swings (Owen stares into the camera and fades out along with Brooklyn, Molly, and Charizard)
You must grow accustomed to new things (Gray, Meowth, Chase, and two other Pokemon replace the others)
It might feel strange, there might be hate (A person in black armor looks at Cerulean Cave, followed by a split screen of them wearing a laughing mask and crying mask)
But you do not want to tempt fate (Gray stares at the sky and eight badges pass by)
Fight back(2x)! Let it go! (Durus, Leviculus, and another Pokemon charge towards the camera at the same time)
Be strong(2x), put on a show! (Chase and Audino sprint away from a herd of Tauros)
Keep training, you'll be put to the test (Gray has a flashback of losing to Trentavious)
Now is not the time to rest... Pokemon! (Gray, smiles at the camera with two Pokemon by her side and Durus resting on her head)
What's popping, people? Welcome back to another chapter of PKA:ANG! Last chapter, Gray and Meowth had an argument that resulted in Gray saying some stuff that shouldn't have been said, and then she was attacked by a wild pack of Pokemon. Thankfully, a mysterious Pokemon came to her rescue, but it fled soon after, and now Gray is left with Meowth, who is refusing to talk to her. Let's get going!
Emboar-Man (guest): She won't be catching any of those, and you would always mention Emboar in your reviews
MCMXCV: It's not Riolu, though that could be really interesting. I'm trying to go for underused Pokemon with this team (with an exception or two), so most of the popular Pokemon like Charizard, Lucario, etc. won't be on the team
Defender31415: Sammy's kind of dumb/oblivious, lol. And the idea for all of them traveling separately will be to see how far they've come since starting their journeys. I'm confident they'll be reunited in Vermilion and Saffron City, though
Blaze Falcon: Thank you, and so am I! I'm not sure what it is, but she's so fun to write about :) And it's not a Riolu. (I know I said this in response to MCMXCV, but) I'm not trying to go with popular Pokemon, like I did with Owen's teams. Once you find out who it is this chapter, I think it'll be very, very difficult to guess who Gray will get throughout the rest of the story
MerlockVonBaron: He will at some point, just not right now. I'd say by the time Gray gets to Pewter City, Chase will have joined her
Gray's team
Meowth, (f), level 5, Scratch, Growl
"Ugh, I hate waking up in the morning," Gray muttered to herself as she exited her tent. Much to her surprise, not a single tent was in sight, and she was all by herself. The teenage girl frowned at the loneliness she was feeling, so she released Meowth from her Pokeball. Surprisingly, the feline was wide awake, but as usual, an annoyed look was plastered on her furry face.
"What do you want?" the normal type spat while glaring at her trainer. Gray didn't say anything, as she began to pack up her things and she placed them in her backpack, which she threw over her shoulder. "Hey, are you gonna answer me?" Meowth shouted at Gray as the two began to walk towards Viridian City. The sixteen year old continued to ignore her feisty starter, and Meowth glared at her in silence.
"I just want to apologize for what I said yesterday. I was just angry about-"
"Shut it," Meowth snapped, cutting Gray off mid sentence. The sixteen year old closed her mouth after hearing the anger behind Meowth's voice, and she began to whistle as they closed in on Viridian City. The duo continued on in silence as they entered the city, and Gray was shocked to see how laid back the citizens were. Compared to Saffron City, everyone was moving in slow-motion, and they were actually smiling and laughing. Not a single person was wearing a suit, nor did they have cell phones against their ears, which made the sixteen year old gasp.
"Okay, let's see if there's anything interesting around." As the girl and her starter continued to walk, dozens of eyes spied on them from a mile or so away. The group looked at each other and nodded at the same time, and they headed towards Route 22.
"I hate this place," Meowth muttered, trying to get Gray's attention even though she didn't want to talk to the girl. Much to her frustration, Meowth's statement went without a response from her trainer, who continued to act as if the normal type didn't exist. Suddenly, the two walked by a Pokemon Center, and Gray stopped immediately. Meowth followed her trainer into the large, red-roofed building. The teen and her Pokemon looked around, noting that it wasn't any different than the Pokemon Center in Saffron City, and Gray walked over to a computer in the corner of the lobby.
"Let's see if this'll work," the girl said to herself, not expecting Meowth to say anything. The feline did exactly what the teen thought she would, and remained silent while Gray typed in a bunch of wonky numbers that Meowth didn't understand. After the girl pressed enter, her picture appeared in the middle of the screen, and there were six smaller boxes beneath the I.D. One of the boxes was filled with Meowth's picture, and there was several smaller boxes within Meowth's, which were filled with her gender, moves, level, and another spot for a nickname.
Gray continued to press the buttons on the keyboard, and she eventually found a map of Viridian City and the other routes branching off the city. After scrolling left, Gray found a very short route that was the entrance to Indigo Plateau, and she rose to her feet within nanoseconds, causing Meowth to jump back in fear before realizing Gray wasn't going to attack her.
"Hey, Dex, what Pokemon can I find on Route 22?" the sixteen year old asked her Pokedex, which she put up to her face. The hi-tech device flashed for a few seconds before a list of Pokemon with their national numbers appeared, and Gray scrolled through the list. "So if the first gym is rock, I'm going to need a grass, fighting, or water type," Gray muttered to herself as she continued to search trough the list before stopping.
"What's wrong with normal types?" Meowth interrogated, offended by her trainer's words.
"I didn't think you'd listen to me, and you don't have any moves that do significant damage to rock type Pokemon. That's why we need to find our first team member!" Gray exclaimed as she clicked on one of the Pokemon. "Here, this one's going to be the perfect fit." A picture of a Mankey occupied the screen, and the rate of its appearance was shown underneath. "Aw, it's kind of rare."
"Whatever," Meowth grumbled as she followed Gray onto Route 22. When they arrived, there was a large patch of grass that was nearly closed off by a bunch of tress, and the two began sifting through in an attempt to find a Mankey. As they did so, dozens of eyes watched them closely from the trees. None of the observers made a sound and continued to watch the girl and her starter. After a half an hour passed, the group decided to spread out, and the six figures moved to different trees, which were surrounding Gray and Meowth.
Sensing the presence of something, Meowth's head shot up and she looked at the trees intently, though Gray wasn't aware. Slowly, the normal type pretended to search for something while moving closer towards the tree nearest her before she suddenly scaled it. Before she could reach the top, a Pokemon jumped down and kicked her in the face, and they both slammed into the ground. Gray's head whipped around, and she ran over to Meowth's side while the other Pokemon hid in the grass, which made the rookie trainer paranoid.
"Are you okay, Meowth?" Gray's question was answered by Meowth leaping out of her arms and she slashed violently at the grass.
"KEY!" a Pokemon shrieked as Meowth landed a vicious Scratch attack. Gray watched as a Mankey flew through the air with blood on its body, and she attempted to run towards it in concern. She was stopped, however, when another Mankey leaped out of the trees and landed on Meowth, pinning her against the ground. The bloodied Mankey then began to jump up and down angrily before screeching aggressively. "MANK! MANK!" Gray then began to look around as nearly a dozen Mankey appeared from the trees, and they glared at Meowth. Much to Gray's shock, all of the fighting types jumped towards Meowth and they attempted to attack her.
"Hey, that's not fair! Stop that!" Gray screamed as she started to grab some of the Mankey and throw them off her Pokemon. She was quickly overwhelmed, however, when three Mankey hopped on her and began pulling at her hair and scratching her face. While she tried getting the Mankey off her, Gray caught a glimpse of the other fighting types attacking Meowth, who was unable to defend herself, and she began to scream in pain. "HELP!"

Meanwhile, a further down the road from the beating Gray and Meowth were suffering through, a Pokemon was swimming in the water all by his lonesome. The previous night had been eventful, in that he saved a random girl from being assaulted by a group of Mankey, and he was now taking the time to sit back and relax. While he dove underwater, the Pokemon looked up at the sky and saw a flock of Pidgey, which lived in the trees nearby, fly away as if they were being disturbed by something. The water type then poked his head out of the water and heard a pair of screams.
"Help! Please, anyone!" Without hesitation, the Pokemon hopped out of the water, but he tripped over his own feet and slammed against the ground face first. Despite this, the water type got back up and ran towards the cries that sounded all too familiar. After a minute or two of running, the water type arrived at the location of the attack, and he saw ten Mankey assaulting a Meowth. The water type then jumped in the air and unleashed a Bubble attack, which struck all of the fighting types and sent them flying in different directions. He quickly ran towards the Meowth and looked at the bloodied normal type before receiving a punch to the back, which made the water type fall on the ground.
"Take this!" Meowth screamed as she slashed the Mankey that attacked her savior. The fighting type was sent flying backwards as blood covered its fur, and the duo of Meowth and her savior began to work together in an attempt to defeat all of the Mankey. Gray, meanwhile, continued to try and throw her attackers, but they refused to let go of her. Seeing that the girl was in trouble, Meowth sprinted forward and latched onto one of the Mankey, biting it savagely. The fighting type screamed in pain and fell off Gray's face while the other two lunged at Meowth, who wasn't prepared to counter. They were disposed of, however, by a Bubble attack, and Gray looked over at the Pokemon that was aiding her and Meowth, pulling out her Pokedex in the process.
"Poliwag, the Tadpole Pokemon. The direction of the spiral on the belly differs by area. It is more adept at swimming than walking." Gray looked up from her Pokedex and saw the Poliwag walk over to her with a dumb look on its face while all of the Mankey were laying on the ground unconscious.
"Wag-wag," the water type greeted with a smile, recognizing the girl from the night before. Meowth curtsied thankfully while Gray bowed at the water type, who beamed at the reception before falling on his face, which made Gray laugh. Meowth, meanwhile, helped the water type back onto his feet, and Poliwag smiled at Meowth.
"Thank you so much for the help, Poliwag. We would've been done for if you didn't show up," Gray informed the water type while walking over to him. Poliwag nodded at the statement and smiled when Gray began petting his head, which made Meowth jealous, though she didn't show it. "Wait a second..." the girl muttered while staring at Poliwag, who continued to smile stupidly. An idea suddenly flashed in Gray's mind, and she pulled out a Pokeball. "Poliwag, I know this is sudden and all, but do you want to join us?"
"Poli?" the water type quizzed in confusion.
"You see, I want to become the champion of the Kanto region, and I can't do that with one Pokemon, and you seem really strong. Plus, we really need someone to help us beat the rock gym in Pewter City. Poliwag perked up at the mentioning of rocks, and he nodded immediately before falling on his face again, which made Gray giggle. Meowth, meanwhile, helped the water type up once again, and Gray pointed the Pokeball at the water type. "Go, Pokeball!" With that, the sixteen year old tossed the Pokeball at Poliwag, and the water type was sucked into the spherical contraption.

After arriving back at the Viridian City Pokemon Center, Gray sat in the lobby, waiting for her two Pokemon to be fully healed. As if on cue, Nurse Joy walked over to the girl and handed her two Pokeballs in a trey, which had four empty spots.
"Here you are, Gray. You're Pokemon are perfectly healthy, though you might want to take it a little easier next time," the woman instructed. Gray smiled sheepishly and nodded at the advice before graciously taking the two Pokeballs, and she released Meowth and Poliwag. The two Pokemon smiled as they stretched out before sitting in the seats across from Gray, who was looking down at a book.
"What are you doing?" Meowth quizzed curiously. Gray stuck up her index finger, as if she were telling Meowth to wait, and then she looked up after smiling.
"I figured since we're going to be traveling together for the next year or so, I might as well give you names that you like. That way, we can... bond?" the girl said before laughing.
"Ooh, that sounds fun!" Poliwag exclaimed as he stood up. He then fell on his face once again, and Meowth hopped off her chair to help the water type back up. "Thanks. So, what's my nickname?" Gray smiled at the Pokemon and flipped a few pages forward before resting her index finger on a word.
"Leviculus, which means silly," the girl explained as her goofy Pokemon danced happily at the name.
"I love it!" Leviculus announced, making Gray smile. "What about her? What's her name?" the water type inquired while looking over at Meowth, who looked away from her trainer in an attempt to look cool.
"For Meowth, I thought..." Gray started as she searched for the word she had settled on. Once she found it, the girl looked up at her starter and grinned before announcing the nickname. "Durus!" Leviculus danced at the mentioning of the name while Meowth deadpanned before glaring at Gray.
"Durus? That's such an ugly name! What does it even mean?"
"Strong," Gray replied while hanging her head in sorrow. She looked up, however, when the feline's eyes began to sparkle after hearing the definition, and she nodded.
"Never mind, I like it." Gray smiled at the information before stretching her arms over her head, and she looked at the clock on the wall. It wasn't even noon, and she was eager to get going, and so were her Pokemon.
"What do you say we get going, Durus and Leviculus?" The two Pokemon smiled in excitement before jumping out of their chairs, Durus landing on her feet while Leviculus slammed on the ground face first. "Alright, let's head to Viridian Forest!"
So, Gray caught her first Pokemon, and it seems like Meowth (now Durus), doesn't hate her anymore! Next chapter will be about the three trying to navigate their way through Viridian Forest, and there might be a battle thrown in, though I doubt it. Till next time, peace out.
1) Do you like Leviculus?
2) How about the nicknames? It feels a lot better writing them, for some reason XD
Next Chapter: "When Bonds Prevail!": Gray, Durus, and Leviculus make their way through Viridian Forest, but when Durus is poisoned things begin to heat up. Looking for a cure, Gray rushes to find help. Will she be able to help her sassy starter?
