Theme Song
One door has closed, another swings (Owen stares into the camera and fades out along with Brooklyn, Molly, and Charizard)
You must grow accustomed to new things (Gray, Durus, Chase, Leviculus, and another Pokemon replace the others)
It might feel strange, there might be hate (A person in black armor looks at Cerulean Cave, followed by a split screen of them wearing a laughing mask and crying mask)
But you do not want to tempt fate (Gray stares at the sky and eight badges pass by)
Fight back(2x)! Let it go! (Meowth and two other Pokemon charge towards the camera at the same time)
Be strong(2x), put on a show! (Chase and Audino sprint away from a herd of Tauros)
Keep training, you'll be put to the test (Gray has a flashback of losing to Trentavious)
Now is not the time to rest... Pokemon! (Gray, smiles at the camera with Leviculus and another Pokemon by her side and Durus resting on her head)
Heyo, it's time for the first chapter of the Pewter City Arc! Last chapter, Durus was poisoned in Viridian Forest, but Gray and Leviculus found Chase and Audino, who gave Gray an Antidote. Now, the two will be traveling together (which will become official in this chapter), and Durus won't hate Gray anymore! Also, two members of a group called Team Purity appeared at the end of last chapter, and they're going to try and take the fossils in the Pewter City Museum! Also, I'm really, really far ahead in terms of writing (currently on chapter 10), so expect to see constant updating for the next few days. Now, let's get going!
Blaze Falcon: Yeah, go Leviculus! And the predictions were pretty accurate, though chapter 8's a little off. Aside from that, nice job :)
Defender31415: Lucky ol' Gray. I figured I'd throw some adversity at her right out of the gate, but looking back on it, she's had a really crappy start to her adventure XD And Team Purity will be a very weird, yet somewhat logical team. Their actions will mean well, but they'll take really radical approaches to cleanse the world of its 'imbalances' and 'impurities'
guest: Haha, I thought I was going to stop writing for a little bit, but I'm just in a zone right now, so when I'm finally not in such a groove, that's when I'll take a break. And I was doing some research and saw that some of the Pokemon on the team are actually overused, but that's in the competitive scene, and not on this site, which was what I was going for. And all the guesses were wrong, haha, but they're really good suggestions!
NodokaLover: Yeah, but Gray won't be getting a grass type or fire type, though one of her Pokemon will act as a grass type of sorts
Shion Rasekna: Leviculus is just one of many personalities that will bring some diversity to this cast, and it's going to be really entertaining to see how the groups gets along when the other Pokemon are caught. And Team Purity won't be nearly as violent (or evil, in a way) compared to Team Grim, but they'll be a lot more freaky. I've dropped very subtle hints (one of which has appeared in the past few chapters) about what could make them so creepy, but I won't spoil what it is
Gray's team
Durus, (f), level 9, Scratch, Growl, Bite, Fake Out - (Meowth)
Leviculus, (m), level 12, Water Gun, Hypnosis, Bubble - (Poliwag)
Slowly, as she opened her eyes, Gray yawned and stretched her arms over her head. After arriving in Pewter City with Chase, the two decided to check into the Pokemon Center and nap after such an eventful first few hours of their adventures. The sixteen year old looked over at the other bed in the room and saw Durus and Leviculus passed out laying on their faces. The girl chuckled as she withdrew the exhausted Pokemon into their Pokeballs, and she hopped out of bed before getting changed. Before she had gone to sleep, Gray purchased a thin red hoodie, a black tank top, a pair of ripped jeans, and white runners. Being comfortable was the first key to succeeding on one's journey, and she sure as hell wasn't going to let something like that stop her from becoming the champion of Kanto.
"Morning," a voice called, which made Gray jump in fear. Durus had let herself out of her Pokeball, and she stretched just like Gray had. "Are we challenging the gym today? I'm in the mood to battle!"
"Sorry, it's too late to challenge them, and we have to make a reservation a day in advance. The earliest I could book was a week from now," Gray answered her starter sleepily. Durus frowned at the information and flopped onto her bed before looking around in confusion. "What's wrong?"
"Where's stupid?" Durus questioned while looking for Leviculus. Gray glared at her starter before laughing at what she said, but Durus continued looking around for the water type.
"He was sleeping, so I put him in his Pokeball. And he's not stupid, he's just..." Gray paused, looking for a word that could describe the stupid Pokemon. "Silly." Durus rolled her eyes at her trainer and hopped off the bed.
"Same thing. Can we go get some food? I'm starving!" Gray giggled at her starter's antics, and the two made their way to the dining hall, where Chase and Audino were waiting. "Hey there, pretty boy," Durus mocked as she looked at Chase. The teen scowled at the nickname, but stopped when he saw Audino and Gray laughing.
"When did you two get up?" Gray quizzed as she ordered her food. "Actually, what time is it?" she asked herself while pulling out her Pokedex. The girl nearly fell out of her chair when she saw it was 6:00pm, and she saw Chase trying to contain his laughter.
"We got up about an hour ago, and we bought some Potions and Pokeballs. Aside from that, we didn't do much."
"That's not true! Tell her what you wanted to do!" Audino ordered, making Chase sweat drop. "You're going to think this is hilarious," Audino whispered to Durus, who waited intently.
"I thought it'd be fun if we checked out the museum tonight," Chase said in embarrassment as Durus fell out of her chair laughing. She stopped, however, when Gray smiled and nodded at Chase.
"I'd love to! That sounds like a lot of fun." Chase sighed in relief before chowing down on his meal, and he talked to Gray about the exhibits at the museum. Once they finished eating, the trainers left the Pokemon Center, and Audino, Durus, and Leviculus walked together while their trainers trailed behind. "So are you planning on catching any Pokemon?"
"I don't know, to be honest," Chase replied as he scratched his head. "I feel like I should for the sake of Audino's sanity, but I also don't think it's necessary if I'm going to be a doctor." Gray nodded at her friend's predicament, and she looked up at the night sky and the stars. One in particular was shining more so than the others, and she fixated her eyes on it.
"What about you? Do you know how many you're going to catch?" Chase quizzed, grabbing Gray's attention.
"I'd like to have a full team, but if I don't connect with that many Pokemon, I won't. I'm just lucky Leviculus found us. A group of Mankey started attacking me and Durus, and he came in the nick of time." Chase eyed the goofy water type and laughed when he dropped on his stomach and began sliding around while using Bubble to soak the ground.
"He's definitely a lot more different than Meowth."
"Durus!" the normal type shouted at Chase, who froze in fear for a split second. "And we're here, just so you know!" The two trainers looked up and saw that Durus was right. They were at the base of the stairs, and the Pokemon quickly made their way up while Chase and Gray took their time. As soon as they walked into the museum, the two realized no one was there except for two security guards, which made Chase look around in confusion.
"That's weird. This place is supposed to be open for another two hours."
"It is," one of the security guards answered with a yawn. "No one ever comes here, though. Feel free to look around." The sixteen year old nodded and walked around with Gray, Audino, Leviculus, and Durus. The Pokemon didn't seem to pay any attention to the exhibits, but the trainers were only looking at them.
"Wow, I can't believe they have so many fossils and all of the bones to a Rampardos!" Gray exclaimed as hearts replaced her eyes. "I would love to have my own fossilized Pokemon!"
"I would too, but that would cost so much money. Then again, we could start digging and try to find some fossils. They'd revive those for free," Chase said aloud as he and Gray walked over to another exhibit, which was a frozen Anorith, which looked much more dangerous than the normal species. "It says here this is one of the first Anorith in existence, but they died out for unknown reasons."
"So Pokemon used to look different in the past. That's so cool."

"Are you ready, Tara?" Rory asked the blonde as he put a crying mask over his face. Tara nodded and put a laughing mask over her face, and the two made sure their Pokeballs were clipped onto their belts. "Let's do this." With that, the duo crept into the museum, and they looked around. Of course, a sign for the fossil exhibit was displayed, and they followed the guidance. Two security guards, whose backs were facing the evildoers, were talking about some news regarding the Indigo League and how trainers would be seeded based on their performances.
"I'll take them out," Rory whispered to Tara, who nodded, not wanting to have to do any harm to the men. She turned her head away as she heard muffled screams of pain, and she finally uncovered her eyes to see the two men dead on the floor. "What's wrong, Tara? Are you going to throw up again?" Rory taunted, making Tara scowl.
"No, but you didn't have to kill them!" the girl shouted in a hush whisper. Rory waved her off and turned to look for the fossils, and Tara followed close behind. As they made their way through the museum, they eventually reached a hallway that would take them to the fossil exhibit. "Let's get this over with, and no violence this time."
"I can't make any promises," Rory said with a sick grin as he began walking towards the next room. Once he arrived, Rory immediately hid behind a wall and put his arm over Tara in order to force her to hide. "There are two people in there with some Pokemon. We have to send out our Pokemon." With that, Rory released his Riolu from its Pokeball, and Tara reluctantly released her Scyther.
"Chase, look! This one's from an Aerodactyl!"
"Oh, that's so cool!"
"Here we go," Rory said to himself. "If we do this well enough, we might get promotions!" Rory looked over at Tara with a bright smile, but the girl didn't return the excitement.
"Yay," Tara replied unenthusiastically while waving her hands around. Rory rolled his eyes at the younger girl, and he slowly moved into the room with his Riolu. The man then pulled a dagger out of his pocket, and he made his way towards the two kids and their Pokemon. As he did so, one of the Pokemon turned around and looked in his direction, though she wasn't able to see him.
"What's wrong, Durus?" Gray quizzed as the feline started to hiss. Audino also looked ready to attack, and Chase glanced at his starter in confusion. Catching onto why the Pokemon were acting so strange, Gray tensed up and called for Leviculus to stand by her side. "Whoever's there, we see you! Show yourselves!" Gray jumped back in surprise when a man and his Riolu revealed themselves, and they motioned for someone to join them. A girl reluctantly stood by the man's side with her Scyther, who looked just as uncomfortable, and they locked eyes with Gray and Chase.
"We're here for the fossils, so get out of the way!" the man ordered.
"Sure, no problem," Chase replied as he tried walking out of the room. Gray stopped him, however, and yanked him back to her side with an angered look on her face.
"No way! We're not letting some crooks like you take these fossils!"
"That's right!" Durus shouted in agreement with her trainer before hissing once more. The man and his Riolu laughed at the heroic acting, and he cracked his knuckles before shouting.
"If that's they way you want it. Riolu, use Force Palm on the Meowth!" In the blink of an eye, the Riolu sprinted forwards while its hand started to glow yellow, and it reared its arm back before attempting to strike Durus. Thankfully for Gray and her starter, Chase and Audino were quick to react.
"Audino, help Durus out with Disarming Voice!" Audino swiftly moved in front of Durus and opened her mouth wide before screeching. Waves of pink energy flew out of the normal type's mouth, and the Riolu was sent flying back into Rory, who angrily got back up and watched as his Riolu slowly pushed itself back up.
"Durus, use Scratch on Riolu!" Rory looked up to see Durus leap through the air while her claws grew and began to glow white, and the normal type scratched Riolu across the face, making the fighting type cry out in pain. Durus then ran back to Audino's side, and the two nodded at each other with grins before looking back at Riolu and Scyther.
"Damnit, Tara, help us out!" Rory barked.
"Ri-Right! Scyther, use Vacuum Wave on Audino!" Scyther, clearly uncomfortable with the whole situation, gave Audino a look of sorrow before whipping his arms forwards, sending a spiraling wave of white wind towards her. Audino was slashed by the powerful attack and she cried out in pain before falling on her rear-end, and Chase looked on worriedly.
"Leviculus, take Audino's place and use Bubble!" Gray shouted to her water type. Leviculus quickly hopped forward and unleashed a cloud of bubbles from his mouth, which circled around both Pokemon before closing in and pummeling them. "Now use Scratch on Scyther, Durus!" Durus quickly dropped to all fours and she darted across the room before scratching the bug as viciously as she could, making the Pokemon cry out in pain as he landed on his back.
"Riolu, take out that pest with Force Palm!" As Durus started to retreat, Riolu sprinted forwards while his hand was glowing yellow, and he slammed it against Durus' back. Suddenly, an explosion of energy was emitted from Riolu's hand, and Durus was sent spiraling into the wall behind Gray, causing the ground to shake violently. Gray quickly ran over to her injured starter, but stopped when Durus hissed angrily.
"Take this!" Chase screamed while pointing at Riolu. "Disarming Voice, Audino!" Audino reared her head back as she switched in for Durus, and she unleashed the loudest scream anyone had ever heard. Massive waves of pink energy slammed into Riolu and sent the fighting type flying through the air. Once he crashed into the ground, Riolu was down for the count, leaving Tara and her Scyther to fight Durus, Leviculus, and Audino.
"Leviculus, wrap this up with Bubble!" Gray commanded. Leviculus grinned before firing a cloud of bright blue bubbles, and they all popped as soon as they hit Scyther. The force of the attacks was so powerful it sent Scyther flying into Tara, who was knocked onto her back. She then withdrew her Scyther when she noticed the bug was unconscious, and she rose to her feet. The girl quickly glanced over at Rory, and the two made a mad dash for the exit.
"Hey, get back here! We're not done with you yet!" Durus screamed as she tried chasing after the two crooks. She stopped, though, when she realized they were too fast. "Dammit!" the feline shouted angrily when she walked back to her trainer, teammate, Audino, and Chase.
"Don't worry about it, Durus," Audino told the smaller Pokemon. "Those two aren't going to be able to do anything if we managed to beat them without a problem." Durus looked up at the backhanded assurance, and she nodded.
"We should probably call the police about all of this," Chase said to Gray as he pulled out his Pokedex and began dialing.
"STOP!" The two teens looked up and saw a squad of cops running into the room, and they had all of their Growlithe with them. The fire type began barking at the group, and Durus hissed back, but she stopped when Gray glared at her. "You're under arrest!"
"What!? We just stopped two people from stealing some fossils! Look at the surveillance tapes!" Durus shouted at the cops while pointing at one of the cameras in the room. The police all looked at each other, and they quickly got their hands on the footage.

After the whole issue was sorted out, Gray, Chase, and their Pokemon sat on the steps outside the museum while several cop cars were parked at the base of the stairs. Everyone that lived in Pewter City had made their way over towards the sight and they were taking pictures of the teens, who tried to not pay attention to the crowd.
"Excuse me, but we need you two to come inside. Bring your Pokemon," an officer told the trainers as he helped them up. The group walked back into the museum and saw a group of researchers standing with a man that was wearing an orange v-neck with a black shirt underneath and brown cargo pants that went along with his brown work-boots.
"Are you two the trainers that stopped the robbery?" the squinty eyed man asked. Gray and Chase nodded in unison, and the man extended a hand. "Thank you so much for your help. I would've gotten here sooner, but I was held up at my gym."
"Oh, do you workout a lot?" Chase quizzed before being smacked in the back of the head by Audino.
"Haha, I do, but I was talking about the Pewter City Gym. My name is Brock, and I'm the gym leader." Gray nearly fell over, but Durus and Leviculus managed to keep her standing upright.
"Sorry, I thought you said your name was Brock," Gray told the man while laughing in embarrassment.
"He did," Leviculus informed his trainer, who almost fell over once again. "Haha, you're looking like me right now!" Brock laughed at the comment as Leviculus fell on his face for some reason unbeknownst to him, but he found it funny regardless.
"I'm Gray Plain, and these are my Pokemon, Durus and Leviculus," Gray introduced nervously while pointing at her Pokemon. Leviculus nodded at the gym leader while Durus quickly pointed her chin upwards, which made Brock laugh.
"The name's Chase Smith, and this is Audino." Audino curtsied at the gym leader, and Brock bowed humbly.
"It's great to meet you all. Gray, right?" the man asked while pointing at Gray, who nodded. "You booked a match with me for Thursday, right?" Once again, the girl nodded. "You don't have to have an appointment anymore. Come around whenever you want, and I'll clear my plans. I have to get going now, so sorry if I'm being rude. I'm looking forward to our battle!" With that, Brock walked out of the museum and waved at Chase and Gray, who waved back.
"Wait!" a voice shouted as Gray and Chase started to walk out of the museum. The two stopped and turned to see one of the scientists running towards them, and he smiled. "Thank you for saving the fossils, you don't know how important they are to our research."
"No problem," Chase answered with a smile.
"Yeah, anyone would've done their best to defend those from some robbers," Gray added with a kind smile.
"You'd be surprised," the researcher muttered lowly so that no one could hear. "Anyways, I'd love for you to both stop by tomorrow. We revived the Pokemon that were almost stolen, and they were told about your heroics. They'd love to meet you!" Gray and Chase looked at each other before glancing down at their Pokemon, who nodded in excitement, and they smiled at the man.
"I'd love to meet all of them!" Gray exclaimed as her infatuation with fossilized Pokemon ran through her mind.
"Us too! That's going to be so cool!"
"I'm happy to see your enthusiasm! However, we're also bringing you in to help with our testing. We want to know how these Pokemon are going to do around trainers, which weren't around during their time, and your Pokemon, if you don't mind."
"Not at all," Gray and Chase answered in unison.
"Hey, doc," Durus interrupted, grabbing everyone's attention. "If one of those things mistakes me for lunch, I'm going to attack it." Gray sweat dropped at Durus' comment, but the researcher laughed at the comical Pokemon.
"Don't worry, we'll be around to stop them if need be. I'll see you all tomorrow! And thank you so much for your help!" With that, Chase and Gray walked out of the museum with their Pokemon. The entire group was smiling all the way to the Pokemon Center and their rooms, which were across the hall from each other.
"So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow," Chase said while rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. Gray giggled at the boy's actions and nodded emphatically. "Wait, Gray," Chase called as the girl prepared to close her door. She stopped and walked out into the hall once again while Durus and Leviculus laid down on their bed, and they watched the scene.
"What's up?"
"Well, I, uh..." Chase paused and pushed his index fingers together nervously, making Gray giggle some more. Chase blushed at his nervousness before shaking his head, and he looked Gray in the eyes. "I figured I'd ask if you wanted to travel together. Audino's been kind of lonely without any other Pokemon around, and she seems to be getting along with Poliwag and Meowth-"
"Durus!" the Meowth shouted from her room.
"Right. She's getting along with Leviculus and Durus, so..." Chase waited for Gray to answer, and she finally did with a bright smile.
"Of course! The more the merrier, right guys?" Gray asked her Pokemon. Durus let out a fake cheer while Leviculus stumbled into the hallway and smiled at Chase.
"That's right, pretty boy!" the water type joked before running into the room. "Did I do it right?" the teens hear him ask Durus, who was cracking up. Gray shook her head at the antics before waving to Chase and closing her door, leaving the boy in the hallway. He slowly closed his door after staring at Gray's for a few seconds, and he flopped onto his bed and screamed into his pillow enthusiastically.
"Did she realize that you were talking about yourself, not me?" Audino quizzed with a mocking tone. Chase looked up from his pillow and glared at the normal type, who laughed at her trainer before walking over to him. "Don't worry, I wouldn't tell her about your little crush. I'll keep my lips sealed."
"Thank you," Chase said to his Pokemon while petting her head. "I appreciate it." With that, the two went to sleep, though Chase could barely contain his excitement. He was now traveling with Gray... but he'd have to deal with Durus' constant mocking. Sighing, Chase looked up at the ceiling, but he smiled.
"It doesn't matter. It'll be worth it."

Meanwhile, at Indigo Plateau, Red sat behind his desk and was typing away on his computer. His Charizard was laying on the ground comfortably, but his head shot up and he started to growl. Before the champion could say anything, another Charizard walked into the room and made his way over to Red's starter. The two fire types glared at each other and started growling, but they stopped and shook hands respectfully before hugging.
"Red, did you hear the news?" Owen asked as he barged into the room. Red shook his head and Owen walked over to the computer and typed in a few words as fast as he could. While doing that, a teenage girl walked into the room and knocked on the door. Seeing her, Red instantly rose from his chair and walked over to the girl, who was holding a one year old.
"Brooklyn, it's great to see you! And Molly, you've gotten so big!" Red exclaimed while kneeling down to look at the child. The baby giggled and reached out for Red, who then hugged Brooklyn and walked her over to an open chair.
"It's been a while. How have things been? Owen told me you put some pretty interesting rules in place for the league this past year," Brooklyn said with a smile. Red nodded, but the conversation was ended abruptly when Owen turned the computer towards his girlfriend and mentor.
"That girl that we met back at Gary's just stopped a break in at the Pewter City Museum!" Owen exclaimed in shock. Red quickly moved towards the screen and scrolled through the article before stepping back in shock. "Apparently she beat them before Brock could get there."
"Wow," Red gasped in awe. "I'd like to say that's beginner's luck, but you don't get that lucky. Maybe we were wrong about her."
"Why don't you check the league website to see how she's done so far?" Brooklyn suggested while bouncing Molly on her leg. The baby laughed at her mother's actions, and she stared at her father and Red, who face palmed. After looking for Gray, they stared at her profile with confusion. "What's the matter?"
"I think I met this girl before," Owen announced as he continued to scroll through her information. "Her mom didn't want her starting her journey at ten, so they moved to Saffron so she could go to school."
"That's cool, but it's not a big deal," Brooklyn said. Before she could say anything else, Red's phone rang, and he picked it up hurriedly.
"Brock, what's up? Yeah, Owen told me. Uh huh. Uh huh. Okay, we'll definitely watch the battle, just text me when she stops by. Okay, see ya, man." With that, Red hung up the phone, and he sat down in his chair. "Look at her Pokemon, right now." Owen did as he was told, and he looked at the Pokemon in Gray's possession before smiling.
"That's a pretty cool team," the Kalos champ stated.
"Yeah, but those Pokemon aren't typically strong," Red pointed out. "I know there can be anomalies, like your Heatmor, for example, but that's just crazy. I'm definitely going to keep tabs on her."
"Same," Owen said. "But for different reasons. I need to find out how I know her, because I remember seeing her around Pallet Town when I lived there." With that, Owen and Brooklyn walked out of the office with Charizard and Molly in tow, and Red was left looking at the girl's profile.
"Gray Plain. That's a name to remember."
Wow, quite the praise from the champs. Don't worry, it'll go away eventually. After all, I don't want Gray being a sue. Anyways, Gray and Chase defeated the Purity grunts, and they'll return to the museum to meet the Pokemon they saved. Till next time, peace out.
1) How often do you think Team Purity should appear? With Grim, I didn't show them off enough at the beginning, so I'm thinking at least once per arc, with them getting more attention in others (probably between 3-5 chapters in an arc or two)
Next Chapter: "Revival of the Fittest?": Gray and Chase are called back to the museum, and they are asked to help the fossilized Pokemon acclimate to society, trainers, and other Pokemon. When one of the Pokemon is the victim of being bullied, Gray quickly intervenes. Will she be able to help out the victim?
