Dean was beyond worried for Sam, he hadn't been awake in three days and hadn't even moved more than the steady rise and fall of his chest and the occasional muscle spasm to let him know he was alive. John had disappeared again off to hunt the Wisconsin Ghost that had kidnapped his son and had promised to let Dean know as soon as he had any news. So far though there had been none and Dean had only been waiting anxiously by his brothers bedside and pacing back and forth through the apartment waiting for Sam to wake up.
There was nothing to suggest that he would wake up soon though and he was worried for his little brother thinking to himself that if he had been around more that maybe he could have stopped this from happening. He just couldn't put together how Sam had managed to get himself in such a situation, he was such a smart kid and he had been trained well in the art of evading ghosts. But then and again he was only sixteen and Dean knew he had put far to much weight on to his little brothers shoulders expecting him to patrol out on his own like that.
Eventually though Dean had to rest setting himself down on the couch and letting his eyes close. A few minutes couldn't hurt all that much, after all nothing had happened throughout the last few days so what would an hour of sleep hurt.
Dean had only been asleep for a few moments before there was a shift in the bed sheets and a low groan came from Sam's parted lips. His eyes flashed open and he leapt upright feeling the stale motel air flooding into his lungs with every ragged pant he took. Sam felt strange like his body was alive with thousands of electrical currents running through it and he made his way out of bed. Staggering on his feet towards the bathroom where he doubled over hacking his empty stomach out into the toilet and feeling the ice cold porcelain against his hands as he held on for dear life until his stomach stopped boiling and flopping.
When he was able to he pulled himself up and washed off his hands looking up into the mirror only to find his eyes a searing yellow, glowing like pits around his irises. Caught off guard he took a step back before looking again blinking hard like he was trying to wash away the memory and the vision from his mind. When he opened his eyes though they were still yellow and he didn't know what to do. Something had happened to him and there was something vitally wrong with him. The way his eyes glowed an unearthly yellow frightened him and when he opened his mouth fangs protruded from his gums that weren't there before.
The frightened child took a step back trying to even out his breathing and the thoughts running through his head. This was no time to freak out and lose his cool he had to be strong because no one else would be. Sam was used to being on his own when his brother and father were too busy doing other things. He could deal with this on his own too there was no reason to alert them and have those two hanging over him and thinking he was some kind of freak. He needed to talk to someone who would be able to understand and maybe shed some insight on what was going on.
What if Danny didn't want to talk to him anymore though, Sam knew he had done a foolish thing going along with Vlad and getting himself into this mess. All of this was his fault and Danny would have been in danger because of it. He remembered his voice fading on the edges of his mind and the sounds of him calling out but that was it. There were no other memories, not yet but he was sure they would come in nightmares like they always did after something terrible happened.
Taking a deep breath he stared at himself in the mirror glaring at those yellow eyes and the fangs in his mouth. So what the hell was he supposed to be? Some kind of ghost creature now like Danny or Plasmius. Some weird creation that shouldn't be alive what the hell even was he? Sam raised a finger under his throat feeling his heart pumping through his veins and he huffed dropping his hand back down to the his side. So he was alive at the very least. Blinking again his eyes returned to their normal shade of hazeled green and the fangs disappeared. It was good enough for now and as long as it didn't happen again Sam would be happy. For all he knew it could just be some weird residual side effects from whatever had happened in that creepy lab.
Sam sighed, yeah sure fat chance of that happening, he shook his head shuffling over to the shower and turning it on as he pulled his clothes off. Letting the hot water sluice over him and wash away the sweat and dried blood that was crusted on his skin even though there was no evidence of any harm coming to his body. In fact there were no scars anywhere. His skin was as clear as the day he was born, every inch of evidence of the life he had lived had been washed clear away. Every pock mark and acne scar was just gone and he reached around to his back feeling for the scar from two summers ago when they had gotten a little to close to a vampire nest. The jagged bite mark was gone as well and he froze feeling an icy chill run up and down his spine despite the hot water. Quickly he finished up his shower not liking the way the running tap blocked out his hearing and the water dulled his senses. He wanted out of this contraption right this second and he barely had the soap off his body before the water was slammed off and he stepped into the steam filled room. Toweling himself off and ducking back into the main room finding a clean pair of track pants and a t-shirt.
Dean was still asleep on the couch and Sam hurriedly scribbled a note and taped it to the back of the door letting Dean know he had gone to the park and that he had just needed some fresh air. Sam didn't know what was wrong with him but his heart was racing and he felt like he had battery acid running though his veins. He needed to go and he needed to go now.
Without a second thought he darted through the door legs already burning from lack of use as he ran through the steadily darkening streets. There was no one around and that only made him run faster. He felt like he could hear their whispers in his mind of everyone and everything pounding at his brain. Tiny tendrils of thought running through his eyes and nose and mouth and picking him apart from the inside out.
Stumbling he stopped looking down to see what he had tripped on only to see the jagged edge of a grave marker peeking out through the grass. The graveyard. He didn't know why he was here or how he had managed to run this far so fast but he was among the graves panting hard as he looked around. Something was wrong in the air but he couldn't place what it was until he saw the eyes peering at him through the darkness and slowly forming into specters. There were so many and they were staring at him. Smokey yellow drifted up through his teeth for a moment like cigar smoke and he flinched his entire body tingling.
Why were they all looking? What were they looking at? He couldn't possibly be this interesting he was just a goofy teenaged boy and there was nothing special about him at all-
He looked around and the ground suddenly seemed so far away and his feet weren't even touching it anymore. The specters stared at him from down below heads tilted eerily to the side and mouths ajar. Sam looked down at his hands and at the ethereal pale yellow glow they gave off. Following up his arms and over his body looking down at himself as he almost choked on his own tongue. What the hell had he gotten himself into…
Danny had been furious with himself for not being able to get to Sam in time before Masters had done…whatever the hell he had done to him. There was something clearly the matter since Sam hadn't been at School for the past three days and Danny was worried beyond himself for him. Trying to keep his mind off it had resulted in sleeping in class from staying up to late on his ghost patrols but it was too hard to sleep at night. Not when his mind was constantly racing trying to figure out what Masters had been doing to him to drag those god awful screams out of his mouth.
He shook his head clearing the thoughts from his mind like and etchasketch that kept coming back and looking down at the ghost radar in his hands. The small PDA shaped unit quietly beeping as it ran scans of the area not picking up on any traces of ghost activity.
It was strange, since Sam had been kidnapped it was like all the ghosts that usually haunted Amity Park had better places to be. Keeping to the Ghost Zone or simply just staying out of the vicinity of the town. Danny wasn't sure what was going on with them but he knew it couldn't be anything good. Whenever ghosts disappeared it was always to come back with some sort of plan. But all of them disappearing at once was just far too strange to be a coincidence.
There was a loud alarm from the device in his hands and Danny looked at the screen eyes flashing wide as the radar picked up a large energy disturbance from the direction of the graveyard. Danny had never seen something so large before not even the powerful ghosts he had fought had registered this high on the scale. Trying to draw a breath was harder than he thought it would be and he considered calling in back up but decided against it. He would just take a look and see what was going on maybe it was a mistake or maybe a portal opened naturally and through off the radar. That happened sometimes.
Tucking the radar back in his pocket Danny flew towards the graveyard at a break neck speed pulling on the breaks when his eyes hit the display in the middle of the yard. There were hundreds of specters some barely formed and others that should have been long passed on standing and floating among the graves. All of them transfixed like moths to a flame and gathered around one singular creation.
It was floating in the air above the rest shaped like a boy but clearly not by the way its skin glowed almost pure white but yellowed like an old bulb, and the hair of flickering flame the same colour as its body. There were no clothes but they were not needed the brightness of the being disguised its body completely. Yellow eyes glowing in its face among subtle features that Danny wasn't sure how he could see but he could. The entire thing looked like it was made of glowing porcelain and it was beautiful in a terrifying way. Maybe this was what an angel looked like.
Danny didn't want to engage it but he saw the wisps of yellow break from between those perfect lips as it turned to face him. Mouth opening but no sound coming out but the shape looked an awful lot like 'help' and Danny instantly saw the fear and pain reflecting in those yellow eyes. Whatever it was it was scared and it didn't look like it was trying to hurt anything it was just confused and lost.
Steeling himself for the worst all the same Danny shot towards the creature holding out a hand as he got close to it trying not to shake as the being looked at him and at his hand before grasping it like its life depended on it.
He hadn't been prepared for what it would feel like to touch this creature as all his sense lit up like a Christmas tree. Everything was brighter, the smells were stronger, he felt invincible and it was incredible.
"Come on you're safe now. Don't worry." He told the creature dragging it away from the crowd of specters and to the school.
Setting down on top of the roof top and looking over at the being taking in the look of fear and shock and thankfulness as it stared at him with those huge yellow eyes. He squeaked a bit when it pulled him close hugging him tight to its warm body and letting that feeling engulf him like a drug.
"You came for me…" it was a voice inside his head and it was unmistakably Sam's.
"I didn't think you would come but you did. I was so scared Danny I don't know what's happening to me. But it's bad and I don't know what I'm going to do. My dad can't find out about this and I think he's going to kill me if he does. I'm some sort of monster now Danny…"
Sam didn't know if Danny could hear him or not but he needed him so badly to understand even though he couldn't seem to get words out of his stupid mouth and into the air. His body was different and no air seemed to come out of it to make sound, it was frustrating.
"It's okay Sam. I'm here and we'll figure something out. So just calm down okay? I don't know what's going on either but we can do this okay?" Danny tried to calm him reaching a hand up and carding his fingers through the flames that weren't flames. Watching the strange things weave around his fingers and spark away.
Sam nodded still holding him afraid that if he let him go he would be all alone again and that nothing would ever be right in the world. The way it was looking nothing was going to be right ever again. He wished he could cry but that was another thing this body seemed to lack. What was going to happen to him?
Danny sighed he didn't know what to say to comfort the other boy, hell he didn't even know what he was. He wasn't like him that was for sure even though Danny knew now for certain that that was the attempt on Vlad's part. But no. Sam was an entirely different set of creature, he looked like he had been sent from heaven above. Or maybe somewhere else entirely.
