Chapter 14
I stood in the bathroom looking at myself in the mirror, my curly blond hair falling around me, my fair skin and my icey blue eyes. Fixing my blouse I sighed, seeing movement in the bedroom I turned quickly. Terrence wasn't home and he wouldn't be for a few more hours. The room was dark and I searched the wall for the light switch. There was a loud crash as I found the light and switched it on. I feel onto the floor as something crashed into me before it flew into the corner, it was one of Zalena's monkey's, it lurked in the corner watching me. Letting out a scream I pushed myself against the wall ice forming on the floor around me. Green smoke appeared in front of me and Zalena smiled down on me.
"Thank you my pet" She said turning to throw a treat to the monkey who then flew out the window I winced hearing the shattering glass. I pressed myself against the wall willing myself to be smaller.
"What do you want?" I asked, I felt like a small child afraid of the monsters under her bed.
"I want you to stay away, little girls shouldn't play with fire." She said bending forward, she grabbed my chin tightly making me look her in the eyes. "Daddy wouldn't want you to get burned would he?"
"What did you do to him?" I snapped pushing myself towards her.
Zalena laughed throwing her hands up making herself disappear in a puff of green smoke. My whole body shook as I let out a sob, closing my eyes I laid my head against the wall and ran my fingers through my hair. Taking a deep breath I pushed myself up off the floor and walked over to the window avoiding the sharp pieces of glass still on the window. I could see Regina's house from the bedroom window, my heart sank seeing the flashes of light coming from inside the house. My thoughts automatically went to when I had left the house earlier, I had left Mary Margaret and Regina alone in the house. I try not to think of the worst as I run down the stairs, but my mind still goes there and I consider what Zalena could do to them. I wasn't going to let Zalena win and take away people I care about. Grabbing my coat and ran outside, the temperature had dropped but it didn't bother me. It was a block to Regina's house and my feet couldn't carry me there fast enough. When I reached the house I opened the door and ran inside
"Regina" I called out but there was no reply, in fact the house was eerily quiet.
I walked towards the sitting room to see Regina standing over Mary-Margaret.
"What happened? Was it Zalena?" I asked quickly, Regina looked at me.
"No it was my mother." I froze looking at her. "Well her spirit." Regina said just as Mary Margaret opened her eyes with a gasp.
"Mary Margaret" David yelled running into the room.
"I'm fine David" She said laying her hand on her stomach. I looked at Regina and she came over to stand by me. "Regina saved me." Mary Margaret said making everyone look at Regina.
"No one should have their baby taken from them." Regina said taking a quick glance at me.
"Your mother told me about, or more showed me, what happened. She gave Zalena up because of my mother, she sent Elsa there because she didn't want anything to stand between you and your chance at the throne." Mary Margaret explained.
"But what could she want now?" Regina asked.
"I think I might know." Belle said walking into the room followed by Terrence, Neal and Emma. "The curse Zelena is trying to cast is one that will take her back in time. She could change everything."
"She's going back to kill my mother" Mary Margaret said softly.
"Which means you'll have never been born" Regina said.
"I guess that's where your help ends" Emma said looking at Regina.
"Think about it miss Swan, you'll have never been born and neither will Henry" Regina said.
"On this new path Regina you may not either." Mary Margaret said, Regina froze looking at me.
"And neither would I," I say softly just as Terrence walked in. Hurriedly I ran over and threw my arms around him.
"Everything okay?" He asked his hand on my waist.
"It may not be for long" Regina said I turned looking at her.
"What?" He asked looking at me.
"Come with me" I said taking his hand I led him into the living room. As we sat there I explained everything that had happened and Zalena's plan.
"So we would have never met." He breathed.
"We aren't going to let her win." I said softly. "I love you" I said trying to hold back tears. I didn't want to imagine my life being over and never seeing him again.
"I love you too," He said pulling me into a warm and gentle hug.
"Zalena came to the house with one of her monkey's." I said, he pushed away looking at me, I could see the fear in his eyes.
"What did she want?" He asked.
"She just warned me not to play fire. Too bad I was never one for listening to rules." He looked at me eyebrows raised. "Okay fine, I lived by rules when I wasn't with you."
"Just promise me you'll be careful, I don't want to lose you." He said.
I smiled softly, nodding. "Terrence, you might anyway. I hate to say it but you know what Zalena's capable of. If she gets her way this time. This could be it."
"We have until Mary Margaret has her baby, that gives us time to come up with a plan. But in the mean time, please be careful." Terrence said taking my hands in his.
"I promise" I said kissing him softly.
"Why don't I go and leave you some time with your mom" he suggested.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"I've spent 17 years with you, I can survive letting your mom spend some time with you."
"Thanks, glad you can share me." I said giggling. He rolled his eyes kissing my forehead before getting up to leave.
Getting up I walked back into the sitting room Regina was cleaning up.
"Need any help?" I asked she looked at me with an apologetic smile, standing up she come closer reaching up she tucked my hair behind my ear.
"I'm sorry you got dragged into all of this, I keep wondering what my life would have been like if my mother hadn't sent you away and I could have raised you like I wanted to." Regina said with a sigh.
"I should be the one apologizing, Zalena got to me long before this. Now all these people are in danger. It's like Oz all over again." I said glancing at my ring. "We'll stop her right?" I asked looking back up at Regina.
"I hope so, I can't lose you again. And I don't want Mary Margaret to lose her baby, not again and not like this." She said.
"You know people always talked about you as the Evil Queen. I haven't seen much of that since I've been here" I said simply, I walked over to the lamp and picked it up off the floor. I could feel her eyes on me the whole time and I turned to look at her.
"I guess I just have things to fight for now." She said with a soft smile.
"That helps. I know without Terrence, this place would be an ice cube right now." I said. Regina chuckled.
"You ladies need any help?" Mary Margaret asked standing in the doorway.
"Shouldn't you be on bedrest?" Regina asked.
"Dr. Whale just left and he said everything was fine. Evidently babies aren't affected by demonic possessions." Mary Margaret said making me chuckle.
"It seems that our past is a bit more complicated than we originally thought." Regina said I watched the two of them.
"It's never been easy between us Regina. I wasn't exactly an easy kid to deal with." Mary Margaret said sitting down at the table.
"I'm sorry your mom wasn't what you always thought she was. I know how much you looked up to her." Regina said putting the broom against the counter, I secluded myself in the corner not wanting to be nuisance to them. "I'm sorry you had to learn she had such darkness in her past."
"It's not the woman I knew, but I wonder what changed her." Mary Margaret said softly.
"We never know our whole past, if we did I probably wouldn't have tried so hard to kill you. Things would have been very different." Regina said glancing at me, Mary Margaret only looked at her.
"I don't know, we would of had something to fight about, I was such a brat." Mary Margaret replied.
"Your mother's child."
"We've spent far too long thinking our past." Mary Margaret said, I bit my lip leaning against the window.
"Now we can focus on our pending lack of a future." Regina said her eyes filling with tears, I watched, feeling sorry for her and all she had lost.
"Zelena's not going to win, not with all of us united against her." Mary Margaret said confidently.
"Hope isn't easy when I know she holds my heart." Regina replied looking down at her hands.
"You'll get it back, stronger than ever, that's what it means to be resilient. You'll find happiness Regina."
"That doesn't feel possible." My heart broke a little at my mothers words, was she not happy with me being back in her life?
"I know you Regina, and you feel things deeply, with your whole soul. Don't let anything hold you back." Regina breathed slowly looking over at me, I hadn't even realized I had frosted the window.
"She's right, last night was you caring about me. Even without a heart you wanted to make sure I was okay." I said glancing back at the window I sighed. "Obviously I need to work on that a little."
"What helped you before?" Mary Margaret asked as I came to sit at the table.
"Oswin, and Terrence. A lot of people looked at me and saw a monster."
"I know the feeling" Regina said softly.
"They had every right to, I got upset and almost froze all of OZ. Not my finest moment." I said looking at Regina.
"You know I see a lot of Regina in you." Mary Margaret said with a soft smile.
"Really?" Regina and I both said, Mary Margaret laughed looking between us.
"Yeah, A big heart but no one understands you and the struggles you've had to overcome. I've seen your mom face a lot of struggles in her time, if you're anything like her I can only imagine what you can do." I smiled softly looking at Regina.
"Can you excuse me I have something I need to do." Regina said standing up. I watched as she walked out and I heard the front door open and close.
"Will she be okay?" I asked looking at Mary Margaret.
"She will eventually"
"What can I do?" Mary Margaret smiled taking my hand softly in hers.
"You're doing it." She said I sighed looking at her.
"Can I ask you something?" I asked.
"Of course." She said with a small smile.
"After my mom had me what happened? She won't really tell me anything."
"When she was pregnant her mother and my father made sure no one knew, they didn't get married until after you were born. I know if Regina had it her way she would have ran and rever looked back."
"Why didn't she?" I asked intrigued.
"She was scared of her mother and what she would do. So she played it safe, for you. God, she was so looking forward to being a mom."
"Do you think it was Cora's plan to get rid of me all along?" I asked.
"Looking back, yeah I do, but as a little girl I thought she was trying to do what was best for Regina."
"What about after I was born?"
"She was hurting, a lot, it didn't help she was married to a man she didn't love and who didn't love her back. Don't think for a second she wanted to give you up."
"I know, but thank you for telling me." I said as Terrence walked in.
"Hey," He said walking over to me kissing my forehead softly.
"That wasn't long." I said with a laugh. He smiled kissing me again.
"I missed you I guess" He said winking slightly.
"Be glad Regina isn't here to see that." Mary Margaret said with a soft laugh, I smiled standing up.
"Good thing you won't tell her." I said wrapping my arms around Terrence, I felt short next to him his height and large build going for him.
"You want to go home?" Terrence asked I nodded slipping my hand down to take his.
"Thanks for everything today Mary Margaret" I said with a soft smile.
"Of course" She smiled.
"Come on I'm tired and hungry" I said with a soft laugh, Terrence smiled walking with me to the front door.
As we walked home I leaned against him holding his hand in both of mine.
"You seem happy" He said softly.
"I am, kinda, I know now that my mom never wanted to give me up." I said looking up at him.
"Don't know why anyone would give you up." He said stopping in the middle of the street. I smiled biting my bottom lip as he stepped closer to me, he wrapped his arms around me kissing the tip of my nose softly. Looking up at him I smiled before pulling him back across the street.
