Theme Song
Come on, come out, we don't have all day (Gray and Fortis try getting Durus, Leviculus, Fidens, and Magna out of bed with an annoyed look on their faces)
Let's do this adventure the right way (Gray runs down a road with Chase, Durus, Audino, Tara, Scyther, and her other Pokemon following)
We will look back on what we were (Fortis is pictured on a black canvas before faded images of a Vibrava and Flygon appear behind him in flames)
Even now, we're still unsure... (Team Purity's logo flashes on the screen, and Deus' masked faces appear)
What the future holds! (Gray's final team flashes by)
Be fast, grab your dreams and run (Trentavious, Savannah, and Marcus appear with their starters, and they smirk at Gray while Trent glares)
Look back, make sure to have fun (Gray, Chase, and Tara sit underneath a tree with their Pokemon while laughing)
Remember now, don't look back, Stay calm and give it a crack... (Gray and her Pokemon stand on a hill with Chase, Audino, Tara, and Scyther)
Pokemon!
Well, Kanto is doomed. Deus managed to capture Zapdos last chapter, thanks to Zypher's Bisharp, who singlehandedly took down Zapdos. Then, Mewtwo made his debut and heard Zapdos trying to communicate with anyone through telepathy. Because he couldn't help, Mewtwo angrily announced he would seek revenge on Red for trapping him in Cerulean Cave, and that's where it ended. Now, it's time for Gray's second battle with Savannah, and hopefully she'll be able to win. As you can tell by the title, Fortis will be battling, though the other participants are a mystery. Now, let's get going!
guest: I plan on making Fortis' evolution chapters as blatantly obvious as possible, so yeah, he's evolving this chapter, hence the title. The next time he evolves will be a dead give away, so you won't have to worry about having to assume
Blaze Falcon: Yeah, Bisharp's a savage, but Pokemon Purifying will be nerved dramatically in the future, so that Gray and the others at least stand a chance against Team Purity. Mewtwo will eventually get to battle someone, though I can tell you it won't be Red
Trentavious Phoenix: Oh thanks! I have my reasons for having Deus use that specific Pokeball, so it's not like I just decided to change it up
MCMXCV: When they're caught, shit's going to hit the fan. I think at that point, that's when I'll start to turn my attention to Team Purity and their clash with the group, but that'll be a few arcs away. As for the rival battle, Gray's going to do really well, and so will Fortis!
Defender31415: Mewtwo will not be hunted, only because he's going to try and kill Deus and anyone standing in his path. For now, though, Deus is after the birds, who will be used for something before possibly being killed
Shion Rasenka: The Lavender Town Arc will be pretty weird as it doesn't really focus on one thing specifically. The three topics being focused on will be Gray and the badge hunt, Mewtwo, and Deus catching one of the birds. And I hope Gray beats Savannah, too!
ShadowDragon9000: Things will start to get a lot more difficult for Team Purity for a few reasons (Gray being one of them) that will be explained later. Haha, yeah Mewtwo's definitely pissed at Red, but he'll battle someone else instead, only because I don't want to copy Origins

Gray slowly rose her arms over her head and yawned before rubbing her eyes. The sixteen year old then got out of her bed and saw Tara was waking up, too, and the two girls began to get dressed. Durus and Scyther were the only Pokemon out of their Pokeballs because there wasn't enough space for Gray's other Pokemon, which made it easier to sleep.
After getting dressed, the girls walked out of their room and began talking about what they planned on doing in Lavender Town before heading to Celadon City, but there wasn't much they could think of. Of course, Gray planned on challenging the gym, but she didn't know if it was open to the public yet, due to it being constructed a few months ago.
"So who do you plan on using against the Celadon Gym Leader?" Tara inquired as she and Gray sat down at a table for breakfast without Chase or Audino. "I'd figure you're going to avoid using one of Leviculus or Fidens."
"I have no clue. I'd say Durus might battle, but Magna is definitely going to. Assuming I don't catch any other Pokemon, it'd probably be Durus, Magna, and maybe Fortis," Gray answered before drinking her water. Durus, Tara, and Scyther stared at Gray in shock after hearing Fortis' name, and the bug type finally spoke up.
"Wait, why would you use Fortis? Fidens actually has a type advantage, and Leviculus is fully evolved. Either one of them would be a better choice," Scyther countered. "Then again, Fortis has only done good things when he's battled, so I can understand your decision." Gray nodded emphatically after hearing the last part of Scyther's response, and she quickly swallowed the food in her mouth.
"You're right in that Fortis has done really well, so I want to build his confidence and help him reach that potential Owen was telling me about. Plus, he hasn't been in as many gym battles as Leviculus, and we still need to work with Fidens on that whole defeatist thing." Durus nodded at the wise words before scratching her neck with her back foot, purring as she did so. Once the girls finished their breakfast, Chase walked in from the Pokemon Center and waved at them.
"Hey, you're finally awake! We were just out looking around town doing some sightseeing. Turns out the gym's closed because the Gym Leader's away for the next month or two," Chase informed Gray, who pouted in response. "So I guess we're going to Celadon City now?" Gray sighed but nodded, much to Tara's excitement, and the group of teens packed their bags before heading out for Celadon City. Once they left Lavender Town's boundaries, the group walked along a dirt road, and tons of trees were to their right while a large mountain was to their left. An old man sat in the grass near the trees gambling while a girl scout played fetch with her Growlithe.
"I hate to say it, but Lavender Town is really odious," Audino announced, making everyone laugh. "At least they moved Pokemon Tower to Vermilion City. That makes it a little less bleak." Durus and Scyther continued laughing before talking to Audino, and the three trainers began talking about the weather and other random things. An hour afterwards, they decided to rest up near a building, which led to an underground tunnel that would take them to Celadon City, and Gray released her four other Pokemon so they could enjoy the fresh air.
"Wow, it's so beautiful outside. It's the perfect day for a battle," Fidens opined while stretching his wings over his head. "What do you guys say? How about some practice battles?"
"I'd be up for it," Leviculus answered excitedly. "Of course, if you want to battle me. Wait, why don't we try and work on that ability problem you've been going through?" the Politoed suggested before dancing like an idiot, which made the others laugh.
"How would we bring it out, though? It's not like it effects him every time," Durus informed Leviculus, who hung his head after hearing the information. "Well, what did all of the battles have in common?" Durus looked up at the sky before a light flashed in her head, and she looked back at Fidens. "All of them have been in pressure situations, so all we have to do is get you into a battle that has some kind of implications!"
"That's a great idea, but how are we going to do that?" Fortis questioned before staring at a cloud that looked like a dragon. The ground type stared at the cloud in fascination while his teammates tried thinking of a way to activate Defeatist, but they weren't able to.
"Maybe I could just scream at you until it worked. How does that sound?" Magna asked Fidens seriously.
"NO!" all of the Pokemon screamed in unison, including Leviculus, who loved yelling with Magna and dancing to the loud noise. He wasn't in the mood to hear such high-pitched frequencies, however, as he just wanted to relax.
"Durus! Fidens! Leviculus!" an excited voice called, grabbing everyone's - including the trainers' - attention. A large, pink Pokemon waddled over to the group with a wide smile, and it hugged Durus tightly before moving on to the other aforementioned Pokemon. "It's great to see you guys again!"
"Wigglytuff, slow down!" another voice cried. A Nidorina ran after Wigglytuff and she tried stopping when she saw the other Pokemon. The poison type skidded over to the group, making Gray, Chase, and Tara raise an eyebrow. Their curiosity was settled when Savannah ran after her two Pokemon, with three others behind her.
"Hey! How are you guys already here?" Savannah asked before realizing Gray had lost in the second round of the Vermilion City Tournament. "Oh, sorry."
"Don't worry about it. We've all gotten over it, right, guys?" Gray asked her Pokemon, who cheered in response. "So how'd you do, Savannah? Please tell me you won it all!" Gray shouted, hoping her rival had better luck than her. Savannah laughed at the hope before shaking her head and running her hand through her hair and sighing.
"We actually got to the quarterfinals, but we ran in to some really strong trainers. I think Trentavious got to the semis, but I'm not sure because I left as soon as our battle was over. He did make it to the quarters, though," the petite girl informed her rival, who shook her head in disbelief before noticing a new Pokemon with Savannah.
"Wow, a Venasaur? How'd you get that so fast?" Gray asked in shock, not remembering the grass type from her run-in with Savannah in Vermilion City. The girl sheepishly rubbed her neck and looked at her Pokemon, who all looked to have gotten significantly stronger since the tournament, and she gave a cheesy smile before answering.
"Well, you see, I was kind of keeping him a secret until I battled someone I knew. Oh, and Eevee and Smoochum evolved!" A Flareon and Jynx stepped forwards along with Venasaur, and the ice type winked at Fidens, which made Magna angry. Flareon, meanwhile, looked at Gray's Pokemon snobbishly before making a comment.
"I'm not surprised you didn't make it far. You all look pretty weak." Savannah deadpanned at the remark while Chase and Tara watched and laughed. Gray didn't pay any attention to the fire type's words, but her Pokemon were riled up by them.
"Oh yeah? How about we settle this with a battle?" Durus asked angrily while showing her claws. The normal type walked in front of her teammates and hissed as if she were trying to defend them, but Flareon didn't back down.
"I don't know. Wasting our time with the likes of you wouldn't do us much good, if any." Durus nearly lunged at the fire type, but Leviculus grabbed a hold of her tail and kept her for doing so. Suddenly, Venasaur and Wigglytuff stepped forward, with the grass type yanking Flareon away with his vines, making the teens laugh.
"Sorry about him, he's been a jerk since evolving. We'd be up for a battle, wouldn't we, Savannah?"
"Only if Gray is," the redhead replied before turning to the brunette, who shrugged before nodding.
"Why not? We could definitely use some practice for our fourth Gym Battle."

"This will be a three versus three battle between Gray and Savannah, where both trainers may substitute their Pokemon freely! The battle will be over when all Pokemon on one side are unable to battle!" Chase announced while looking at both girls, who were standing twenty feet away from each other while their Pokemon stood by their sides. "Trainers, choose your Pokemon!"
"Durus, you're up first," Gray informed her starter, who gladly walked forward before hissing at Savannah's Flareon. The fire type quickly ran forwards and began growling back at Durus while Savannah and Gray rolled their eyes at their Pokemon.
"I guess that means I'm choosing Flareon," Savannah joked before muttering something under her breath that no one heard. After looking at both Pokemon, Chase raised his arms in the air and cleared his throat.
"This battle will be between Durus and Flareon! Begin!"
"Durus, use Screech!" Gray commanded while pointing at the fire type. Durus opened her mouth and screamed at the top of her lungs, and waves of sound slammed into the four legged Pokemon, who covered his ears in pain even after Durus stopped and charged.
"Flareon, keep Durus away with Will-O-Wisp!" Savannah countered confidently. Three blue flames appeared around the eeveelution, and they were launched towards Durus. Each of the flames struck and Durus hissed at the burning sensation running all over her body while Gray cursed under her breath at the tactical move.
"Fight through the pain and fire a Pay Day!"
"Dodge and land an Iron Tail!" Savannah yelled in response. Flareon easily leaped over the blast of golden energy while his trial turned silver, and he smashed it over Durus' head, slamming the normal type against the ground so hard everyone flinched at the sound. Durus got back on her feet and refused to back down, but Gray decided to use her brain and withdraw her starter.
"Durus, come back!" Gray shouted to the normal type, who reluctantly made her way back to Gray's side. Chase, Tara, and all of the Pokemon gave puzzled looks in response to the questionable decision, but Gray didn't care about their opinions. "Fidens, it's your turn!" Gray yelled to the flying type, who ran forwards and squawked at Flareon.
"This battle will be between Fidens and Flareon! Begin!"
"Use Iron Tail again, Flareon!" Savannah shouted, starting where she had just left off. Flareon grinned and bounded towards Fidens as his tail started to turn silver. The fire type then leaped in the air and began spinning like a wheel; increasing the power of his attack while also providing Gray with enough time to think of a solid counterattack.
"Dodge and use Wing Attack, Fidens!" Fidens barely evaded the attack as he hopped backwards, and the flying type retaliated swiftly by smacking Flareon across the face with his glowing white wing. The fire type was sent rolling back to Savannah's side, and the petite teen cheered along with her spectating Pokemon. Slowly, Flareon got back up and glared at Fidens, who took a deep breath to remain calm.
"Don't hold anything back, Flareon. Fire Blast!" Flareon opened his mouth while his stomach started to glow orange, and a star shaped burst of fire flew out of the fire type's mouth. The wicked attack zipped through the air and struck Fidens, which made the Pokemon cry in pain before it exploded and launched him behind Gray.
"Come on, Fidens! Hang in there!" Fortis cheered alongside Leviculus and Magna, which helped the rock type stand up despite the pain he was going through. The three beamed at the sight, and Fidens dashed towards Flareon, catching everyone off guard.
"Way to stay strong, Fidens! Hit 'em with another Wing Attack!" the sixteen year old commanded. Fidens' wings began to glow white and he crossed them over his chest while lowering his head. He wanted to finish his opponent off as quickly as possible, and didn't plan on holding anything back with the upcoming attack.
"Don't let Fidens get close! Will-O-Wisp!" Flareon fired three balls of blue fire at the prehistoric Pokemon, making Gray cover her eyes as she didn't want to watch her Pokemon get hurt. Much to her surprise, Fidens contorted his body so that he dodged all of the flames, and he continued running towards Flareon. Savannah and her Pokemon stared in disbelief before Fidens leaped in the air and dished out a barrage of kicks and vicious slaps, which launched Flareon past his trainer. Once the fire type stopped skidding Chase ran over to Flareon and raised his arms to signal the end of the match.
"What just happened?" Fortis asked his teammates, who shrugged in response. The ground type then turned to Scyther and waited for an answer, prompting the bug type to respond.
"That's a move called Acrobatics. It deals a massive amount of damage as long as the user isn't holding an item, which is why Fidens was able to knock Flareon out so quickly." Fortis turned and marveled at his teammate, who was cheering with Gray.
"Flareon is unable to battle! Savannah, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Great job, Flareon. You tried your hardest." Savannah sprayed her injured Pokemon with a Super Potion, healing Flareon immediately. The fire type bowed to his trainer for the kind words before walking over to his teammates in shame. "Wigglytuff, turn the tide!" Savannah yelled to her starter, who nodded and walked towards Fidens intimidatingly, making all of Gray's Pokemon tremble except Durus. Fidens glanced back at Gray and nodded at the girl; hoping she'd leave him in battle. Gray smiled at the Pokemon and decided to let Fidens continue battling, which made the flying type grin.
"This battle will be between Fidens and Wigglytuff! Begin!"
"Time to get the momentum back," Savannah said to herself. "Fire an Ice Beam!" Wigglytuff opened her mouth and a zigzagging beam of light blue energy flew through the air. Gray and Fidens were too slow to react, and the flying type was hit by the devastating attack. Gray bit her lower lip as Fidens rolled around in pain, but the cheering from his teammates, Tara, and Scyther willed him to stand back up.
"Answer right back with Acrobatics!" Gray shouted, remembering the move Fidens had performed against Flareon. Fidens bolted towards Wigglytuff and hopped in the air before unleashing a barrage of violent kicks and slaps, which made Wigglytuff grunt in pain. Each hit was stronger than the last, and Fidens finished the onslaught by kicking Wigglytuff in the stomach. The pink Pokemon landed on her back with a loud thud, but she refused to back down. Gray and Fidens grinned at Wigglytuff's determination, but stopped when Savannah spoke up.
"Put Fidens to sleep with Sing!" Gray attempted to order a counterattack, but Wigglytuff had already began singing soothingly. Slowly, Fidens' eyes began to droop, and he eventually fell on his face, which made Gray curse under her breath. Withdrawing Fidens wasn't exactly worth it, only because he'd still be sleeping if he were sent back out, so Gray opted to keep the sleeping Pokemon in.
"Fidens, wake up and use Ancient Power!" Fidens didn't respond to his trainer, and he continued to snore and sleep peacefully, much to Gray's dismay.
"Wigglytuff, run over to Fidens and toss him in the air!" Savannah commanded, knowing she had a small window of opportunity. The evolved Pokemon ran over to Fidens and heaved the sleeping Pokemon as high as she could, which had to have been several dozen feet in the air.
"Dodge!" Gray screamed, trying to wake her Pokemon up by being loud. Her plan failed, however, and she watched as Fidens continued to fall with his eyes closed shut while Wigglytuff waited for a command from Savannah.
"Play Rough!" The fairy type was suddenly enveloped in pink aura before she sprung into the air. The larger Pokemon crashed into Fidens violently before throwing him into the ground, which cracked underneath the force of impact. When the dust settled, Chase walked over to Fidens and raised his arms in the air.
"Fidens, is unable to battle! Gray, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Awesome work, Fidens. We'll get some more practice in before the Gym Battle," Gray said as she placed the bird next to her other Pokemon. After walking back to her original spot, Gray looked over at Durus and motioned for her to battle, which made the normal type grin. Gray's Pokemon let out a collective sigh of relief after not hearing their names called, which made Tara and Scyther laugh. The Persian, meanwhile, slowly made her way into the borders of the makeshift battlefield and locked eyes with Wigglytuff, making both Pokemon grin anxiously.
"I've been waiting for this ever since our first battle," Durus told Wigglytuff, remembering the crushing defeat. "I don't plan on losing again!"
"And I don't plan on letting you win," the pink Pokemon replied. "Now let's do this!"
"This battle will be between Durus and Wigglytuff! Begin!"
"Wigglytuff, use Thunderbolt!" the redhead shouted energetically. The fairy type was suddenly engulfed in yellow electricity before firing several zigzagging bolts of lightning at her counterpart. The feline easily dodged the electrical attack by leaping into the air and Durus' bounded towards Wigglytuff aggressively, prompting Gray to order an equally aggressive attack.
"Strike with Feint Attack, Durus!" The normal type smirked as she disappeared in the blink of an eye, making everyone look around. She suddenly reappeared in front of Wigglytuff and slammed into the powerful Pokemon, which made her skid back several feet before stopping right in front of Savannah, who had braced for impact. The smaller trainer sighed in relief after not being knocked over, but she regained her battling mentality and pointed at Durus.
"We can be aggressive, too! Mega Punch, Wigglytuff!" The bipedal Pokemon angrily trudged along the dirt road while her fist was glowing light blue, and she reared back angrily. Durus attempted to dodge the powerful attack elegantly, but her showboating led to her being punched in the face. Fortis, Magna, and Leviculus turned away from the devastating blow before slowly looking back to see Durus lying on her side.
"Are you okay, Durus?" Gray quizzed. The normal type hissed in response before darting towards Wigglytuff, who was shocked to see Durus recover so quickly. "Metal Claw!" Gray yelled, knowing she had little time to think. Durus' claws extended exponentially and turned to steel before she slashed Wigglytuff across the face, making the fatter Pokemon grunt in pain.
"Hurry and grab Durus by the tail!" Savannah shouted to her starter, who did as she was told within nanoseconds. Durus suddenly hissed after feeling Wigglytuff's stubby hands grab ahold of her tail, and she attempted to bite her foe. The defensive mechanism was futile, however, as Wigglytuff began swinging Durus around as if she were about to do a hammer throw. The Persian was promptly smacked against the ground, which dealt a massive amount of damage, to say the least.
"Spin and use Pay Day, Durus!" Gray commanded, seizing the opportunity Savannah and Wigglytuff had inadvertently presented. The feline quickly turned around and launched a gold ray of energy at Wigglytuff and struck her opponent, who fell on her back as a result of the powerful normal type attack. Durus then hobbled over to Gray's side and glared at her opponent, who managed to get back up.
"Let's finish this right here, Wigglytuff," Savannah said to her starter, who nodded in agreement before smirking at Durus, who smirked right back and turned to Gray confidently.
"Gray, I'm taking Wigglytuff out with this next move," Durus informed her trainer, who nodded at the confident prediction. Durus then sprinted towards Wigglytuff, and Wigglytuff took off running, too.
"Use Mega Punch, Wigglytuff!" Wigglytuff angrily reared her right arm back as her hand began to glow light blue, and she threw her arm forward just after Gray issued Durus her final command.
"Hit her with Metal Claw, Durus!" The four legged Pokemon's claws quickly grew and turned silver before she slashed Wigglytuff with her front right paw. Both attacks hit their targets, and the battling Pokemon were sent spiraling backwards. After they both hit the ground and rolled to their trainers, Chase looked at both sides and threw his arms in the air dramatically.
"Both Pokemon are unable to battle! Gray and Savannah, choose your last Pokemon!" Chase yelled while pointing at both sides.
"Amazing job, Wigglytuff. You held your own against some really strong opponents," Savannah said to her starter while helping her walk over to her teammates. Wigglytuff smiled thankfully before sitting down in exhaustion, and she waited for Savannah to reveal her final Pokemon. "Now, Nidorina, you're up!" Savannah announced as she turned to the aggressive Pokemon. The poison type darted over to her trainer and pounded her chest at a frenetic pace before waiting to see who Gray was going to choose.
"Durus, thank you for all of your help," Gray said to the cat as she picked up her starter and placed her alongside her teammates. The trainer then took her time to examine her three choices, and she began to walk back to where she had been standing during the battle. "Fortis, this one's all you," Gray informed the ground type, who stepped back in shock. Durus, Leviculus, Magna, and Fidens - who had just woken up - turned to Fortis and began cheering him on, making the Hoenn Pokemon blush as he walked over to Gray. He then turned and faced Nidorina, who was furiously swiping at the ground.
"This battle will be between Fortis and Nidorina! Begin!"
"Fortis, show them how strong you are with a Bulldoze attack!" Gray yelled powerfully. Fortis' head snapped into the air and he roared while slamming his front feet on the ground harshly. The ground shook as a result of the action, and a wave of dirt - similar to a geyser - shot up and pummeled Nidorina. The poison type was launched straight into the air, but she regained control of her body effortlessly, which impressed the spectators while Savannah smiled at her Pokemon's ability.
"Spin and descend while using Take Down, Nidorina!" Savannah ordered after realizing how much damage she could deal. Suddenly, Nidorina started to spin like a drill as she was coated in bronze energy. Fortis looked around nervously and attempted to get away from the attack, but he wasn't able to due to his lack of speed. An explosion followed the collision, and Fortis cried in pain as he was shot into the air while Nidorina flinched in pain as the recoil damage set in.
"Hang in there, Fortis! Feint Attack!" the brunette commanded. Once he landed, Fortis disappeared and slammed into Nidorina's back almost immediately afterwards, which made the poison type skid along the ground face first. As Nidorina got up, Fortis glanced over at his teammates and saw them jumping up and down while cheering, which made him smile.
"Double Kick!" Fortis' attention snapped back to the battle, but he was too late to react to Nidorina, who was only inches away from him. The powerful Pokemon quickly kicked him in the chin with her right foot, sending Fortis off the ground. Nidorina then jumped after her target and slammed her foot into his stomach while descending. The two Pokemon crashed into the ground within seconds of the impressive move, and Nidorina scampered back to Savannah's side before literally running circles around her trainer. Fortis, meanwhile, shook as he stood up, and bruises covered his body.
"Just keep at it a little longer, Fortis!" Durus shouted, to which Fortis nodded. Gray smiled at the motivational things her other Pokemon were saying to Fortis, but she turned her attention back to Savannah and her Nidorina, making her smile fade.
"Use another Bulldoze attack, Fortis!" Gray yelled, hoping the super effective attack would be enough to knock Nidorina out. Fortis slowly nodded and began to lift his front legs off the ground, but Savannah and her energetic Pokemon weren't keen on standing around and taking more damage.
"Run over there and use Take Down!" Just before Fortis could perform his attack, Nidorina, who was covered in bronze energy, rammed into him. Fortis was then launched backwards before landing on his side. The ground type tried fighting off the pain his body was feeling, but he was unable to do so, prompting Chase to slowly raise his arms in the air. He put them down, however, after Fortis managed to get back on his feet.
"I'm not giving in, no matter what!" the injured Pokemon shouted before roaring into the air. Savannah and Nidorina both smiled at the determination Fortis was showing, but they stopped when he was enveloped in a bright light. Everyone gasped in shock as Fortis' body began changing shape, and the light was thrown off his body once the transformation was complete.
The new Pokemon's head was significantly smaller than his previous form, and two antennae were sticking out. Two green, bulging eyes with black oval-shaped pupils were now present on the sides of the Pokemon's head, and it began to flap its small, green wings which had black large, white teeth shot out of both sides of the creatures mouth, and it had a skinny yellow body, four black legs with tiny feet, and four green, rhombus-shaped wings with black edges. Its tail had a similar design, and Gray took out her Pokedex to scan the creature.
"Vibrava, the Vibration Pokemon. It generates ultrasonic waves by violently flapping its wings. After making its prey faint, it melts the prey with acid. New moves learned: Earthquake, Dragon Breath." The newly evolved Pokemon smiled proudly while he examined his new physique before turning to look at Gray with a smile.
"Wow, Fortis evolved," Leviculus muttered in awe. He looked over at the others and waited for them to say something, but they were all too shocked to muster up a response.
"That couldn't have come at a better time," Audino said while shaking her head in disbelief, refusing to accept the fact that Fortis had evolved. "The momentum's completely in Gray's favor now."
"Definitely," Tara agreed while nodding. "Now let's see just how strong Fortis is." The other Pokemon nodded and stared at the dragon and ground type, who locked eyes with his opponent. Nidorina grinned at her newly evolved opponent and began swiping at the ground anxiously, though Savannah didn't seem as excited to battle the Vibrava.
"I'm ready whenever you are," Fortis said to Gray without turning around, making the girl nod and focus on the battle rather than marvel at the evolution she had just watched.
"Let's try out Earthquake!" Fortis grinned as he lifted his tiny black arms off the ground before slamming them down. The ground shook so violently Leviculus fell over, but the goofy Pokemon laughed in response before getting up. Nidorina looked around in fear as she couldn't keep her balance, and she was suddenly launched into the air when a column of dirt shot out of the ground and struck her in the chin.
"Spin and use Take Down just like before!" Savannah ordered, which made Gray smile. She didn't even have to say a word to her Pokemon, as he knew exactly what she wanted him to do. The Vibrava took to the air and flew towards Nidorina before swinging his tail at the poison type. Surprisingly, Nidorina was sent crashing into the ground, and the second stage Pokemon struggled to get to her feet while Fortis grinned. Sensing her Pokemon's confidence, Gray cleared her throat before punching her right fist straight forwards.
"Fire a Dragon Breath!" The dragon and ground type opened his mouth and a wave of green fire flew over to Nidorina, who's eyes went wide. The attack struck and Nidorina was engulfed in the green flames, making her cry in pain before her eyes closed. The flames suddenly went out, and Chase raised his arms in the air as soon as they did.
"Nidorina is unable to battle! Gray and Fortis are the winners!"
"Alright! Way to go, Fortis!" Gray shrieked as she ran over to her Pokemon and hugged him so tight, he began to gasp for air. The girl apologized in response, but Fortis didn't care and he rubbed up against Gray's face affectionately. After their celebrating was over, Fortis hopped out of Gray's arms and flew over to his teammates, who had nothing but good things to say.
"You were incredible, Fortis!" Durus exclaimed with a bright smile. "I knew you were going to win the whole time."
"Yeah, and congrats on evolving!" Magna squealed before hugging the dragon type. "All three of you were really great out there." Durus, Fidens, and Fortis thanked Magna for the compliment while Gray, Tara, and Chase walked over to Savannah.
"Great battle, Savannah. If Fortis hadn't evolved, you had that in the bag," Gray said to the girl before looking down at her Nidorina. "And you put up a great fight, Nidorina." The poison type smiled at Gray before running off to go talk with her teammates, while Savannah took a deep breath and spoke with the trio of teenagers.
"Likewise. All of your Pokemon are really strong, especially Fortis. Nidorina hasn't lost many battles, but Fortis wiped the floor with her. Anyways, I've gotta get going. Fuchsia City's a long ways away from here, and I want to win that badge as soon as possible. See you around!" With that, Savannah withdrew her Pokemon and waved at Tara, Chase, and Gray before running.
"I can't believe Fortis evolved," Chase muttered. "It looks like he's really starting to come into his own." As Chase said that, the three trainers watched as Fortis laughed and socialized with the other Pokemon, which was something he had been working on since joining.
"Yeah, he's really come a far way," Gray said to herself before smiling.
Here we go! Fortis finally evolved and he'll be showing off some newfound strength as soon as he gets the chance, and Fidens learned Acrobatics while Durus tied with Wigglytuff. Next chapter will feature Chase finally expressing his feelings for Gray, so get ready to have your socks blown off. Till next time, peace out.
