Innocence

Part 15

Dark forces lurk in this story from now on. Child abuse triggers, child molestation triggers. This work is not for the faint of heart. Tears, anger, sex and beatings will be referenced. Child abuse is a part of every society, it should not be, but it is.

I do not own Rizzoli or Isles; I just dress them up and send them over to instruct G.I. Joe on how to interrogate a perp. Thank you for reading.

Frankie looked around the spacious home of Maura Isles. He still wasn't sure about why Jane had called him to come over, much less what he was supposed to do. Plus on top of the confusion, it was the middle of the night, but Jane had called and that was good enough for him to wake up and drive over to Beacon Hill for an unknown favor.

"Frankie, this is Richard Isles, Maura's father. We believe Maura may be in danger." Jane filled her brother in as she led him upstairs to the guest room she had chosen to stay in.

"Janey, Maura Isles, she's the same woman you did your U/C job on, right?" Frankie asked, trying to piece together the puzzle.

Jane stopped and turned to face Frankie. "Frankie, about Maura, she has an important place in my life, like really important."

Frankie watched the solemn look cross his older sister's features. He had known that Jane liked women over men when it came to love. "You love her, don't you, Janey."

"I love her more and more, every single day, Frankie."

Frankie tossed his overnight bag on the bed and looked around the room.

"At least the place is swanky, better than your apartment." Frankie teased.

Jane chuckled but still lightly punched him on his arm. It was time to get down to business of handing out chores to Frankie.

"Okay little brother, here's the list that Maura left me that I need you to do."

Frankie took the sheet of paper and read the direction of the care and feeding of Bass.

"Whoa Janey, you sure I can do this?"

"Very. Jo's food is normal as always. The 'Bass' list is easy, just follow the steps. One last important thing, help yourself to any food and just this once, you may drink some of my beer. "

"Well alright, I'm in with a beer. Just kidding, I got this Jane; go do what you have to do to save your lady." Frankie stated adamantly.

Jane grabbed Frankie and pulled him into a strong, brief hug.

Frankie smiled; he still had a little hero worship for his big sis.

Jane stepped away and picked up her repacked bag and headed out of the room. In the hallway, she ran into Mr. Isles who had showered and now looked refreshed and ready to go.

"Jane, great news, I contacted one of my charity partners and she agreed to loan us her jet." Richard Isles said in passing.

They all three went down the stairs and gathered in the foyer.

"Frankie, I'll call you when I can."

"You just be careful Jane, I don't really know what's going on, but be careful." Frankie said seriously.

"I will Frankie. Please tell Korsak I am in his debt for using some of his juice to get me the week off."

"Jane, we must go. Falconwood is six hours ahead of us."Mr. Isles said as he glanced at his watch.

With one last goodbye, Jane and Richard headed off to the airport.

It was close to midnight, Boston time; hopefully they could make it to Falconwood by daybreak.

Maura woke with a gasp; something had startled her from a deep sleep. She lay motionless, trying to discern any movement out of place in her room. When she inhaled her next breath, that's when she caught a whiff of that damnable flower and its sweet perfume. The lilac had been a dreaded symbolic symbol that Constance Isles was now in residence.

The young blond carefully looked around her room to make sure she was absolutely alone. Only when she was sure that she was alone did she throw back the heavy covers and get out of bed.

After she had showered, Maura went to her closet and chose the most conservative style of dress she could; even going as far as adding a full scarf as a beautiful accessory. There would be no leering today. She had made that mistake when she was younger, it did not matter who was looking at her, she'd always felt embarrassed, like she was there for eye candy only.

When her makeup was just right and every hair in place, only then did Maura leave her rooms. She silently prayed again not to be faced with Constance.

Her prayers went unanswered as she came into the breakfast room and spotted her mother. Mistress Isles was dressed, as usual, in dark colors. It didn't matter the shade, it was always dark. Today she looked quite intimidating in all red and black. Maura knew she had dressed to make an impact on whoever she crossed paths with. No by coincidence, that person today was her daughter.

Constance sensing another person in the room turned away from the picturesque window view of the estate and zeroed in on her daughter.

Maura could not stop herself from dropping her head under the intense scrutiny.

"I see you found the new clothes I had sent ahead for you, though I never dreamed you would wear so many at once. Come here, Maura, greet your mother properly." Constance commanded.

Maura moved forward and performed the obligatory air kiss. She only narrowly avoided being 'accidentally' groped by moving swiftly to her seat and placing the linen napkin in her lap.

Constance followed her and when Maura settled, her mother ran a hand across her shoulders under the pretense of admiring her scarf.

Maura finally had enough and shrugged her mother off and tried to start a conversation.

"Mother, how was your flight in?"

Constance stalked around to her chair and sat with an edgy grace.

"It was horrendous, since I sent the jet for you along with Edgar."

Maura took a sip of coffee, "I'm surprised you needed to see me."

"Well Maura when you do get in trouble we both know you need a time out so I can set you on your feet again." Constance replied snidely.

"I'm sure father would agree with me when I say that I am too old to be reprimanded as a child. By the way, where is father?" Maura asked.

Constance gave her daughter a positively sinister look, "Didn't I tell you, dear daughter mine, I have decided this should be a mother/daughter re-bonding time. I think we should reacquaint ourselves with the rules an Isles' has to live by; especially when you have been so very unruly."

The ball of fear Maura had kept tamed to the far corners of her mind was suddenly clear and present. Without her father, there would be no way to control her mother.

'Oh Jane, how I need you…' Was Maura's only thoughts as she watched her mother being served breakfast.
