Just be You

He's breathing hard. She's breathing hard. They're standing in his living room of his small condo in Mossdeep City. Her sapphire eyes give him a sharp glare and she's biting her lower lip, brows knitted together. All he remembers is that she was smiling less than five mintues go, that is, until he had to go and open his big mouth.

"What the hell is your problem, Steven?" she asks incredulously.

He gulps because it's one of the rare times she uses his name when she talks to him. He sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "I don't have a problem, I'm just saying the facts," he defends himself.

She immediately scoffs and continues, "Yeah, so it's a proven fact that because I'm a gym leader's kid that I need to be a gym leader or even the Champion. I'm Norman's daughter so I'm expected to do something great like him, huh?"

"I never said you had to be, I'm just saying that being a talented trainer is in your blood. You were born to do amazing things."

May turns her back is to him, crossing her arms across her chest. Then she says quietly, "You sound exactly like him."

"How so?" Steven inquires, his voice getting softer. He knew she didn't get along with her father, he for sure didn't get along with his either, so he understood where she was coming from.

"He constantly tells me that I have so much potential, so many opportunities. I'm more fortunate, I know, but I don't want to use his name to help my future. I want to work hard for my own future and live the life I decide to live. He tells me that I made a mistake, that I threw away my future by not becoming Champion. But Steven, I can't be Champion. Winning doesn't mean that I'm qualified or ready for it."

Steven looks at her form and walks over to her, wrapping sturdy arms around her small shoulders. "Is that the only reason why you declined the title?"

She turns her head, looking straight into his eyes, "It was one reason. I thought about you. Where you would go if I took your job?"

He chuckles slightly, then squeezes her a little tighter. "Ah, so you said no because you thought I would leave? Leave you?"

Her cheeks turn a slight shade of pink, making him laugh even more. Nonetheless she says, "Yeah, I don't want you to go. Just stay and keep being the Champion." She turns around in his arms, burying her face in his chest so he doesn't see how pink her face has become.

He's silent for a moment, registering her words. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere," he whispers reassuringly, running his hand along her hair. She nods and doesn't say anything. "And by the way," he adds, "to me, you're not Norman's daughter. You're not just a really powerful trainer to me either. To me, you're just you. You can whatever you'd like in your life, but I'll always like you as just you."

May looks up at him, steps on her tiptoes, and kisses him on the cheek, "Me too."

In the game, I feel like the protagonist doesn't have the best relationship with Norman, so I wanted to use that in this. Plus, i was inspired by a Korean drama I watched haha ( if those of you watch Pinocchio, I edited Dal-Pol's confession to In Ha in the end. I hope you enjoyed it, please R&R :)
