Theme Song
It is time for the home stretch (Gray shows her badge case with eight badges)
For it is the final catch (Magna appears, smiles, and fades, which is repeated by Fidens, Leviculus, Decorus, Durus, and Fortis)
Your goal's right there, it is your fate (Owen and Red stare down at the championship battle of the Indigo League)
Go ahead and become great! (Gray throws a Pokeball forwards and it opens)
No way! (2x) We won't back down! (Durus lunges at the camera and slashes it)
We will! (2x) Win that crown (Montage of Gray defeating Trentavious, Savannah, and Marcus before she looks across a battlefield and sees Owen)
This is it, the final quest (Gray looks off into the sunset with Chase, Tara, and their Pokemon)
You must do your very best... Pokemon!
How's it going, folks? This chapter will be about Gray's Gym Battle in Viridian City, and it'll definitely be tough. Going back to last chapter, Gray managed to defeat Raven, the Gym Leader of Lavender Town, for her seventh badge, and Fortis really came through to defeat Raven's Dusknoir. Now, let's get going!
Defender31415: Yeah, I can't say it enough, but Fortis is insanely strong, and he'll show it off a little more in this chapter, too.
Blaze Falcon: You know, I really don't get why they haven't made a goth-like ghost type Gym Leader. And I will be using Pokemon from Blue's team in-game, but he won't have his starting Pokemon because that'd be really unfair, so it'll be similar to Hoenn Adventure with Wallace having a gym team. And happy belated 4th of July!
ShadowDragon9000: This really has flown by. I've been done with the writing portion of this for about a month or two now, but I still have to work on editing everything and changing some ideas I don't like. Also, you're right about Gligar joining soon (he's the unidentified Pokemon on Gray's team on my profile), but he's going to be a very different addition, which will be explained as soon as he's caught. Also, don't worry about Mewtwo. He'll be showing up pretty soon, and he'll make an appearance sometime in the early stages of Johto

"Viridian City, I'm here for my last badge!" Gray shouted while throwing her hands above her head. "Are you ready, Durus?"
"Hell yeah!" the feline replied enthusiastically before sprinting towards the Gym with her trainer right behind.
Chase and Tara were waiting out front the building and smiled when Gray and Durus arrived, both panting. The two had arrived a few minutes earlier because Gray told them not to wait for her, and they were relieved to see the girl had arrived when she said she would.
"Don't tire yourself out before the big battle," Chase joked, receiving an angered look from Durus while Gray giggled at the joke.
With that, the group walked into the Viridian City Gym, and Gray stared wide eyed as the interior was just a simple battlefield with a few seats along the wall. Standing on one end of the battlefield was a teenager who looked incredibly familiar, and he smirked as Gray stepped into the opposing trainer box.
"You're Gray, right?" the referee asked, making the aforementioned girl nod.
Suddenly, the Gym Leader spoke up and grabbed everyone's attention.
"The name's Blue, and I'm the leader of the Viridian City Gym," he said confidently, making Gray gasp. "Haha. Yeah, I'm that Blue," he continued, knowing what Gray's reaction was referring to.
"Wait, how the hell is Gray going to win this battle if she's going up against the former champion of Kanto?" Tara inquired while looking over at Chase, who laughed at the question.
"I'd assume he's under the same restrictions as Wallace is, in that he has a team specifically for the Gym, and another that consists of his stronger Pokemon. That's the only thing I can really think of."
"So what are the rules here?" Durus asked before her trainer could fangirl over Blue, making Gray scowl while Blue laughed at the Pokemon's personality.
The nineteen year old motioned for the referee to speak, and Durus turned her attention to the man on the side of the battlefield.
"This will be a two versus two battle between Gray Plain of Saffron City, and Gym Leader Blue!" the referee announced as Gray's picture appeared on a holographic scoreboard along with Blue's. Two smaller spots appeared next to both trainers' pictures, which were for the Pokemon. "The battle will be over when all Pokemon on one side are unable to battle! Furthermore, only the challenger may substitute her Pokemon! Blue, choose your first Pokemon!"
"Arcanine, rock and roll!"
In a flash of light, an Arcanine landed on the battlefield in front of Blue before howling. The fire type looked across the room and glared at Durus, who hissed immediately, making Gray smirk.
"Durus, let's win this thing!"
Without another word, Durus leaped forwards and lowered herself to the ground, locking eyes with Arcanine, who began to growl in response. Meanwhile, on the sidelines, Chase and Tara stared excitedly along with their Pokemon.
"This battle will be between Durus and Arcanine! Begin!"
"Durus, start this off with Feint Attack!" Gray commanded confidently.
Durus sprung forwards and sprinted across the battlefield aggressively while Arcanine lowered himself to the ground and prepared to lunge at his opponent. Before Arcanine could, Durus suddenly teleported behind him and slashed the fire type, making Blue curse under his breath while Gray pumped her fist emphatically.
"Spin and use Flamethrower!"
Gray's eyes shot wide open when she saw Arcanine open his mouth and begin to chase his tail. Suddenly, the dog released a wave of red-hot fire from his mouth, and Durus was burnt to a crisp. The feline hissed in pain as she was sent skidding across the battlefield, but she popped back up and turned to Gray with a grin.
"Don't back down, Durus. Fire away with Pay Day!"
Gray commanded while punching her fist forwards. Durus nodded and opened her mouth while looking upwards, and Blue waited patiently for the Persian to shoot. Durus' head suddenly snapped down and she shot a blast of golden energy at Arcanine. As the attack closed in on his Pokemon, Blue smirked and cracked his knuckles before countering.
"Run around it and use Extremespeed!"
Arcanine bounded to the left side of the battlefield and managed to outrun Pay Day before disappearing from sight. Suddenly, Durus was launched behind Gray, and she struggled to get up. Gray glanced back at her starter before turning to look across the battlefield, and she saw Arcanine was sitting in front of Blue with a stoic expression while Blue was grinning.
"Charge and hit 'em with Slash!"
The sixteen year old turned as a gust of wind hit the side of her face when Durus blew past her, and everyone gasped as the feline leaped through the air. Her claws suddenly extended and began to glow bright white, and she swung her arms at Arcanine viciously. The fire type took the attack head-on and acted as if nothing had happened, worrying Gray and the spectators.
"Now use Fire Fang, Arcanine!"
Arcanine's mouth was suddenly filled with fire, and he lunged forwards before biting Durus on her neck. The fire from Arcanine's mouth exploded and sent Durus rolling along the ground and she cried in pain before weakly pushing herself back onto her feet. Gray bit her bottom lip worriedly as she could see Durus' legs were shaking violently, but her nerves were calmed when Durus turned around and nodded. Taking a deep breath, Gray returned the nod and punched her right fist straight forwards.
"Durus, retaliate with Power Gem!"
The red jewel on Durus' head began to glow white before bursts of clear energy were shot at Arcanine. Blue gasped in shock at the force of the attack, as each blast of energy exploded on contact, sending Arcanine barreling into the wall behind the Gym Leader, who turned back to Gray and grinned at Durus' power. Much to the younger team's dismay, Arcanine rose powerfully and roared before sprinting.
"Let's finish this with Flame Wheel, Arcanine!"
"Match them, Durus! Give a max effort Slash!"
Both Pokemon sprinted towards one another, and Arcanine opened his mouth before releasing a steady wave of fire. As he did so, the dog began to spin and he sped along powerfully. Durus, meanwhile, smirked as her claws extended and began to glow white. She then jumped in the air, twirled and threw her right arm at the speeding wheel of fire. The two attacks collided and an explosion occurred instantly, sending both parties flying through the air. When they hit the ground, both Pokemon were revealed to have fainted, and the referee rose his arms in the air.
"Both Pokemon are unable to battle! Choose your final Pokemon!"
"Wonderful job as always, Arcanine."
Blue smiled as he withdrew his fainted Pokemon, and he looked up at Gray and Durus.
"I'm impressed, Gray. Not many people can claim to have beaten my Arcanine," the teen informed Gray while holding a Pokeball in front of his face. "But this is where I win. Rhydon, go forth!"
The gigantic rock type slammed on the ground in front of Blue and roared while peering down at Gray, who turned her attention back to Durus.
"Thanks for the hard-fought battle, Durus."
The Persian nodded and smiled as she was carried back to Gray's trainer box, and the girl grabbed a Pokeball off her belt and smirked as Rhydon began pounding his chest intimidatingly.
"Time to match strength with strength! Fortis, I choose you!"
With a mighty heave of the spherical device, Gray watched as Fortis exploded out and landed on the ground. The Flygon locked eyes with his opponent, and both sides smirked.
"This battle will be between Fortis and Rhydon! Begin!"
"Rhydon, start off with Stone Edge!" Blue demanded as he stomped on the ground.
Rhydon mimicked his trainer's actions and slammed his right foot on the ground. Suddenly, dozens of sharp rocks rose from the battlefield, and Rhydon threw his arms forwards and the pointed objects were hurled towards Gray and Fortis, the latter of whom was grinning.
"Create a sandstorm with your wings, Fortis!" Gray shouted after watching Rhydon stomp on the ground.
As soon as the rock type threw his arms forwards, Fortis began flapping his wings as quickly as he could, and a powerful wind of sand whipped forwards. Suddenly, the sharp rocks were redirected and slashed Rhydon, who roared in pain before shaking his head and glaring at Fortis.
"Are you okay, Rhydon?" the teen inquired worriedly.
Rhydon answered with a mighty roar and made Blue smile before he charged towards Fortis.
"Now use Hammer Arm!"
The rock type's arm began to glow white and he lunged forwards in an attempt to deal a devastating blow to his winged opponent, who wasn't keen on being clubbed by Rhydon.
"Fortis, stay away from him and use Dragon Breath!" Gray instructed tactically, making Blue grin.
Fortis flapped his wings and shot into the air like a rocket, just barely evading the fighting type attack from Rhydon. Much to Fortis' and Gray's dismay, Rhydon leaped in the air like a pogo stick, and Blue cleared his throat before screaming to his Pokemon.
"Now grab Fortis' wings and finish this off with Horn Drill!"
Rhydon did exactly as he was told and grabbed a hold of Fortis' wings, stopping his ascent instantly. Rhydon then threw his head back while the horn on his face began to glow black, and he threw his head forwards. Suddenly, everything went in slow-motion, and Gray screamed.
"Fortis, no!"
As Rhydon's horn closed in on Fortis, the winged creature threw his arms forwards and blocked the attack, causing sparks of light to fly through the air and explode, making everyone gasp in shock.
"WHAT!?" Blue hollered in disbelief.
Fortis continued to push Rhydon's horn away from his body, and the dragon type roared as the flesh on his hands began to burn from the harsh rotation of Rhydon's horn. The rock type continued to try and attack Fortis, but the green creature somehow managed to keep the attack at bay.
"I didn't even know that was possible!" Tara exclaimed while turning to Chase, whose jaw was hanging open.
"Neither did I. Leave it to Fortis to defy all odds," Chase muttered, making Tara nod as the two turned their attention back to the battlefield.
"I've had just about enough of this, Gray," Fortis told his trainer through an indescribable amount of pain. "What do you say we wrap this up?" the dragon type inquired, making Gray beam.
"Rhydon, get out of there with Hammer Arm!" Blue shouted in desperation.
Rhydon's arm began to glow red and he attempted to strike Fortis across the face, but Gray's quick thinking didn't allow that to happen.
"Throw him against the ground, Fortis!"
Fortis roared as he hurled Rhydon straight down before the powerful Pokemon could strike with Hammer Arm. With a mighty thud, Rhydon rolled around on the ground in pain, and Fortis turned to nod at Gray before descending like a missile.
"Finish this off with Earthquake!"
Fortis crashed into the ground feet first and caused the building to shake violently. A column of rocks shot out of the ground and shot Rhydon straight into the air, and he crashed against the ground once again, this time with a low grunt. When the referee walked over to Blue's half of the battlefield, he raised his arms.
"Rhydon is unable to battle! Gray and Fortis are the winners!"
"Way to go, Fortis!" Gray exclaimed as she and Durus ran towards the powerful victor.
Fortis embraced both his trainer and Durus before turning around to see Blue walking over with an impressed look on his face.
"I've never seen someone block Horn Drill before. That was insane!" the Gym Leader stated before fist bumping Fortis, who laughed at Blue's enthusiasm. "You were great, too, Durus. And Gray, you earned this," Blue said to the younger girl while handing her a piece of metal that looked like a green sapling. "That's the Earth Badge, and I'm assuming your eighth."
"That's right! Now we can compete in the Indigo League!" Gray cheered along with Fortis and Durus, making Blue laugh. "Thanks for the awesome battle, Blue."
The nineteen year old smiled and bowed as Gray walked out of the building waving, and he chuckled once the girl and her friends disappeared.
"That girl's gonna make a name for herself at the Indigo League."
000
"So Fortis won the last two Gym Battles?" Billy asked while sitting at the dinner table across from Gray, who nodded in response.
Her five other Pokemon looked at Fortis and began cheering for him, making the dragon type blush.
"Wow! And now you're in the Indigo League! I've gotta tell all my friends!"
With that, Billy ran out of the room, leaving Gray and her mother to themselves.
"I'm so proud of you, honey," the older woman said to her daughter, making Gray smile. "I actually have a present for you. After all your hard work, it was hard to not get something."
"Aww. Thanks, Mom! What is it?" Gray inquired as she followed her mother out of the dining area.
Gray frowned when she saw her mother shake her head, but she turned and smiled.
"I guess we'll just have to find out. Billy, come on! We're going to the Adoption Center for Gray's present!"
Thanks to Fortis being a beast, Gray has earned her last gym badge and will spend some time away from battling. She also arrived back in Saffron City and her mom revealed she had a present ready. If the title for the next chapter isn't obvious enough, shame on you, lol. Till next time, peace out.
Next Chapter "The Great Gligar": Gray's mother reveals the present she got for her daughter is a new Pokemon, and it's met with mixed reactions. When jealousy is created, Gray is forced to try and connect with her Pokemon. Will she be able to?
