Ally

He remembered the first time. High on the first success, they'd greeted him boldly. He'd met their brother, after all, and they'd just saved his tail. For his part, he wasn't afraid, and wasn't trying to take them down in a blustering show of manhood, like most of the other humans they'd met.

He'd been fascinated to meet a human who seemed to relate to his temperamental second-eldest brother. It wasn't long before fascination shifted toward irritation and annoyance, but he couldn't begrudge the outlet he offered for the hot-head's need for random moments of wrestling, or the protection and independence that came with the two of them going out together. He felt safer, knowing the human had his brother's back, even if he was annoying.

It wasn't until the man came back alone one night, bruised, bleeding, that his ambivalent feelings toward him really settled. With his mutant companion taken by the enemy, himself beaten and needing a hospital, he returned to the Lair, to seek help, risking their father's wrath and forgoing his own continuing health in favor of an impromptu rescue. Loyalty like that was rare.

That night, the human earned something even more rare; his trust.
