It is time for the home stretch (The Indigo League stadiums are shown)
For it is the final catch (Magna appears, smiles, and fades, which is repeated by Fidens, Leviculus, Decorus, Durus, and Fortis)
Your goal's right there, it is your fate (Owen and Red stare down at the championship battle of the Indigo League)
Go ahead and become great! (Comis practices with Durus and gets crushed)
No way! (2x) We won't back down! (Durus lunges at the camera and slashes it)
We will! (2x) Win that crown (Montage of Gray defeating Trentavious, Savannah, and Marcus before she looks across a battlefield and sees Owen)
This is it, the final quest (Gray looks off into the sunset with Chase, Tara, and their Pokemon)
You must do your very best...
Pokemon!

How's it going, everyone? This chapter will be an awesome battle between Gray and Trentavious, which is taking place in the quarterfinal rounds! Last chapter, Gray won her battle with no problem, and she'll be looking to advance to the semifinals with an upset of Trentavious! Will she be able to pull off the win? Let's find out!

Defender31415: That's right. Gray deserves all the credit she's gotten so far, given how she's managed to pull out three (two close) victories in a row! And if there were any time for her to lose, you're right that it would be between now and the championship, given the fact that the three trainer's she'd be facing off with are her rivals. Hopefully she'll beat all three

ShadowDragon9000: Hype, my friend? Here, take some. Haha, this one's going to be really intense, and I'm hoping it can live up to the expectations of you, the readers. Hopefully Gray will pummel Mega Obamasnow and Trent so she can get one step closer to the championship!

After waving to a crowd of fans, Gray disappeared inside the red arena and looked around the trainer room. Marcus and Savannah, whose battles were later in the day, were sitting along with Chase, Tara, Sammy, Tracey, Gray's mother, and Billy.

"So are you ready, Gray?" Savannah inquired while looking at her rival, who nodded in response. "Trent's been doing so well during the tournament so far. Have you come up with a strategy?"

"That's for us to know and you to find out," Durus shot back, making Gray frown as she scolded her Pokemon.

"No, we don't have one. I'm relying on the bonds I have with my Pokemon," Gray informed the smaller girl before pushing a strand of hair out of her eyes.

Knowing she was only one win away from reaching the semifinals was baffling. Best of all, if she were to advance, it would keep Trent from winning the Indigo League. As she began thinking to herself, she felt a light tap on her back and turned to see Comis smiling at her.

"I don't know the guy you're facing, but you're gonna kick his butt!"

Gray smiled and nodded before a person walked into the room and motioned for her to walk down the hallway.

"Best of luck, Gray!" Sammy and Tracey shouted as Gray walked down the long hallway with Durus and Comis by her sides.

"This will be a full battle between the one seed, Trentavious Phoenix of Snowpoint City, and the three seed, Gray Plain of Saffron City!" the referee shouted as the crowd exploded with applause. "Both trainers may substitute their Pokemon freely, and the battle will be over when all of one side is unable to continue. Furthermore, this battle will be fought on one of the three terrains available!"

As soon as the refs stopped speaking, the two scoreboards at the top of the stadium lit up. Both Gray's and Trent's pictures were present along with six smaller boxes below them, while a wheel was in-between the pictures of the trainers. There were four symbols: a rain drop, a rock, grass, and then a large 'X' made up the four quadrants of the circle.

Gray and Durus stared with wide eyes as an arrow appeared and began spinning around the wheel before slowing down and settling on the image in the top right selection. They soon refocused and locked eyes with Trentavious, who scoffed at them before turning away.

"This bout will be fought on a grass battlefield!"

Before Gray or Trent could react, the clean battlefield in front of them was lowered underground and replaced with a battlefield covered in grass, which looked to be freshly cut. The referee then stepped forwards and looked at both sides before speaking once again.

"Trainers, choose your first Pokemon!"

"Leviculus, you're up!" Gray shouted as the trusty Politoed hopped out of his Pokeball and landed on the grassy battlefield with an excited look on his face, all while his picture appeared on the scoreboard.

"Let's dictate the battle, Ferrothorn!" Trentavious shouted as he released his first Pokemon from his Pokeball.

A strange, disc shaped creature appeared and landed on the grass across from Leviculus, who eyed the strange Pokemon cautiously as its picture flashed on the scoreboard.

Meanwhile, in a suite near the top of the stadium, Owen and Red looked down at the battlefield while scribbling away on notepads. Both of their Charizard, on the other hand, were busy talking about something only Pokemon could relate to.

"I'm so looking forward to this," Owen told Red as he turned to the older boy and cracked his knuckles. "This is definitely going to be the best battle of the day."

"Eh, I'm not so sure. If that Trentavious guy is going to have his Ferrothorn do what I think it will, Gray's going to face an uphill climb the entire battle. Sure, she may e a better trainer than I expected, but even people with years and years of experience struggle with the kind of stuff Trent's going to throw at her."

Owen shook his head adamantly before looking back down at the battlefield, where he saw the referee raising his arms straight upwards.

"This battle will be between Leviculus and Ferrothorn! Begin!"

"Leviculus, use Hydro Pump!" Gray shouted, not knowing anything about Ferrothorn or its typing.

Leviculus obeyed his trainer's command and reared his head back while inhaling dramatically. Suddenly, a high-pressured blast of dark blue water shot out of his mouth and struck Ferrothorn, who was pushed backwards, albeit slightly. After the attack ceased, Ferrothorn turned and nodded at Trentavious, who laughed to himself before pointing his right index finger at the sky.

"Cover their half of the battlefield with Spikes!"

Trentavious smirked as Ferrothorn began to spin, and several metal spikes shot out of his body. Gray watched as the sharp bits of steel planted themselves in the ground on her half of the battlefield, and she looked around before thinking of a counterattack she believed would work well.

"Use Dig, Leviculus!"

Without wasting any time, Leviculus began to swipe at the ground and quickly burrowed underneath the battlefield, disappearing from sight. Trentavious and Ferrothorn waited patiently and smirked when Gray's Politoed shot out of the ground and attempted to deal a devastating punch. Much to his and Gray's dismay, Leviculus heard Trent's voice cut through the air.

"Dodge it and zap 'em with Thunder Wave!"

Ferrothorn quickly spun away from the quick punch Leviculus threw out, and then the grass type was covered in bright yellow electricity. Before Leviculus could react, a wave of electricity shot out of Ferrothorn's body and struck Leviculus, who was paralyzed instantly. Gray gasped at the result of the attack and stared at her Pokemon as Leviculus dropped to his knees.

"Fight through it and use Mega Kick!" the brunette commanded, hoping she could get through to Leviculus.

Much to her dismay, Gray saw her words weren't able to will Leviculus through his paralysis, and he was frozen in front of Ferrothorn, who turned to Trentavious and smirked.

"Heheh," Trentavious chuckled before looking up from the ground and cracking his neck. "Finish this thing off with Thunder, Ferrothorn!"

"Leviculus, get out of the way!" Gray screamed desperately.

Once again, her hopes were crushed when Leviculus wasn't able to move, and the two vines shooting out of Ferrothorn's body were suddenly engulfed in electricity as storm clouds appeared over the red stadium. In the blink of an eye, a bolt of electricity crashed downwards and shocked Leviculus into oblivion. Afterwards, the water type fell on his face lifelessly, and Trentavious snickered while his Ferrothorn began celebrating its victory.

"Leviculus is unable to battle! Gray, choose your next Pokemon!" the referee shouted as Leviculus' picture turned black.

"Thanks for the awesome effort, Leviculus. Take a long rest," Gray said thankfully as she withdrew the fainted Pokemon.

Looking up at the scoreboard, Gray bit her lower lip and began to think of how she could handle Ferrothorn's typing. Durus and Magna didn't have any attacks that could deal significant damage, and Fidens and Decorus were weak to steel types. Then there was Fortis, who Gray wanted to save for later in the battle, which made her decision exponentially more difficult. After noticing Comis and Durus were staring at her, and the scoreboard was showing video of her standing still, Gray grabbed a Pokeball and blindly threw it.

"I choose you!" she shouted, not knowing who was going to emerge.

Suddenly, the Pokeball exploded when it reached its apex, and a calming force appeared. Slowly, Gray looked up and saw Fortis flying overhead confidently, and he began to descend so he could land on the battlefield.

"Fortis, stop! The ground is covered with Spikes!" Gray yelled frantically, making Fortis ascend nervously.

"Thanks for the heads up," Fortis said to Gray as he looked her in the eyes and smiled warmly, easing Gray's nerves.

"What!? Why did she choose Fortis so early?" Sammy shouted in confusion before looking around at the others, who shrugged in response except for Gray's mother, who turned and locked eyes with the girl.

"None of her other Pokemon have a type advantage against Ferrothorn, so it's not like Gray's trying to trick everyone," she informed the confused teenager. "Plus, Fortis won't take any damage from Spikes."

"Already sending out your big guns? Questionable decision," Trent mocked while shaking his head at Gray, who bit her lower lip and glared daggers at the older boy in response. "Then again, you're making my job easier. The quicker I can take out your Flygon, the sooner I'll wipe out the rest of your Pokemon!"

"This battle will be between Fortis and Ferrothorn! Begin!"

"Use Leech Seed to take away his health, Ferrothorn!" Trentavious shouted, trying to overwhelm Gray with frustrating obstacles.

Ferrothorn began to grunt lowly before several saplings were fried from his mouth and towards Fortis, who continued to fly in the air directly above Gray, Durus, and Comis, the latter two of whom were watching nervously.

"Dodge it, Fortis! Then use Flamethrower on our half of the battlefield to burn Spikes!" Gray countered aggressively.

Grinning, the dragon and ground type ascended with ease, evading the Leech Seed attack his opponent had performed. After the saplings fell off the battlefield, Fortis descended, reared his head back, and opened his mouth wide. A blast of fire shot out and engulfed Gray's half of the battlefield in flames, getting rid of the pesky spikes that hid in the grass. Fortis slowly landed on the ground in front of his trainer while Trentavious cursed under his breath, and Gray issued another command.

"Earthquake!"

Not wasting any time, Fortis stomped his right foot against the grass, causing the stadium to shake violently. People sitting in the top of the stadium let out cries of fear as they nearly fell from their seats, and a column of dirt shot out from underneath Ferrothorn. The wicked attack sent the grass and steel type straight into the air, but Trentavious grinned before stepping forwards and throwing his right arm out to his side.

"Perfect! Spin as fast as you can and slam Fortis into the ground with Gyro Ball!"

Ferrothorn suddenly began to spin like a top before shooting into the air. As he continued to spin, Ferrothorn's body was covered in silver streaks of energy, and closed in on Fortis in a matter of seconds, giving Gray a small window to think of a way to combat the incoming Pokemon. Luckily for Fortis, his trainer snapped her fingers while grinning, and she yelled.

"Grab a hold of Ferrothorn and use Dragon Claw when you get the chance!"

Fortis obeyed his trainer's commands and quickly grabbed onto his opponent before being taken into the air. Everyone in the stadium gasped in shock as Fortis managed to hold Ferrothorn just far enough away so that he didn't take any damage, frustrating Trentavious while drawing praise from everyone else who was watching, especially Owen and Red. Before either of the champions could comment on the bright move, Fortis loaded his arm back while the claws on his hand extended and began to glow neon. In one swift motion, he slashed Ferrothorn as hard as he could, sending the steel type spiraling into the ground.

"Wow! That Flygon is really strong!" Red exclaimed as he turned to Owen in shock.

The seventeen year old leaned back in his chair and nodded nonchalantly while Charizard gazed down at the dragon type. Even though Fortis wasn't even close to being on the same level as him, Charizard couldn't help but smile as he thought of himself while looking at him.

"I know. Charizard and I faced him and Gray in a battle."

"How'd they do?" Red inquired, already knowing the answer.

"They got crushed, but that's not the point. Fortis showed something during that battle that very few Pokemon can, and I know you know what I'm talking about," Owen replied as he turned to Red, who nodded. "It's that same fire I saw in Charizard, Garchomp, and Heatmor. That's a special Pokemon."

Back down on the battlefield, Trent held in his building rage and took a deep breath before talking to his injured Pokemon, who was struggling to get up.

"Are you alright, Ferrothorn?" the boy asked.

Ferrothorn slowly pushed himself upright with a weak look in his eyes, and Fortis grinned upon noticing that. Not paying any attention to the opposing Pokemon, Trentavious cleared his throat before shouting an order.

"Okay, use Iron Head!"

Despite his lack of strength Ferrothorn pushed himself to attack Fortis, and he began to spin like a top as silver streaks of energy began to fly off his body. Before he knew it, Ferrothorn was flying across the battlefield and headed straight towards Fortis, who glanced back at Gray with a smirk, and the duo's eyes flashed at the same time.

"Burn him to a crisp with Flamethrower, Fortis!"

Fortis happily obliged and shot a wave of intense orange fire at Ferrothorn, who was engulfed and began to scream in pain, dropping to the ground immediately. Once he finished the Flamethrower, Fortis watched as Ferrothorn was launched across the grass due to an explosion caused by the intense fire striking the ground at such a high velocity. After Ferrothorn stopped rolling on the ground, the referee threw his arms up and Ferrothorn's picture on the scoreboard turned black.

"Ferrothorn is unable to battle! Trentavious, choose your next Pokemon!"

"Way to go, Fortis!" Gray cheered as her Flygon landed right in front of her with a stoic expression.

"You did exactly what I wanted you to, Ferrothorn. Thanks."

Trentavious took a deep breath as he pulled out his second Pokeball, but he was stopped by Gray's voice ringing in his ears.

"Fortis, return!" the girl shouted, letting the referee know she didn't want Fortis to participate in consecutive battles. After the man nodded, Gray withdrew Fortis and watched as the powerful Pokemon's picture turned blue. "Fidens, let's take the lead!" Gray yelled as she released her Archeops from his Pokeball.

"Not on our watch! Froslass, steal the momentum back!" Trentavious shouted, throwing the Pokeball he had been holding earlier.

In a flash of light, Gray and Fidens narrowed their eyes while staring at the ice type, who had defeated Fidens back in the Saffron City Tournament. The rock type squawked angrily, prompting Froslass to open her mouth and let out a ghostly moan. Suddenly, the sky was filled with dark clouds, and snow began to fall down, making Fidens shake as he tried to get the freezing precipitation off his body.

"Trentavious has such a huge advantage with Froslass' ability, Snow Warning," Tracey announced as she continued staring at the television screen before her.

"Why? Fidens can totally win. He's so cool!" Billy exclaimed before looking over at his mother, who was shaking her head in response along with Chase and Tracey.

"Snow Warning creates a hail storm that chips away at a Pokemon's health unless they're an ice or steel type. Since Fidens is weak to ice types, it's going to do a lot more damage than it normally would," Chase explained.

"This battle will be between Fidens and Froslass! Begin!"

"Froslass, freeze that bird with Ice Beam!"

The ghost type quickly floated higher in the air while pointing her mouth straight towards the sky. A small sphere of light blue energy formed in front of Froslass' mouth and she began to howl before firing a zigzagging beam of ice at Fidens.

"Dodge and use Crunch, Fidens!" Gray demanded quickly.

Fidens attempted to jump over the super effective attack, but it clipped his right leg, making him screech in pain before landing on the grass. Despite this, Fidens shook his head and ignored the pain. At an unmatched speed, Fidens began to sprint towards Froslass, and he leaped in the air while opening his mouth in an attempt to bite his floating opponent.

"Blow Fidens back with Water Pulse!" Trentavious shouted with an evil smirk.

As soon as Fidens bit Froslass, the ice type generated a ball of water in front of her mouth. While Fidens continued chomping down on Froslass' lower body, Froslass looked down and shot the Water Pulse attack, which slammed into Fidens and caused the prehistoric Pokemon to smash into the ground. As he got back on his feet, Fidens screeched in pain after being hit by dozens of bits of hail.

"Hang in there, buddy! Retaliate with Ancient Power!"

Gray smiled as Fidens stomped, causing five boulders to appear from the ground and revolve around his body. Once he threw his wings upwards, Fidens marveled at the speed at which the boulders traveled, but Trentavious' quick thinking allowed him to maintain his composure and counter the powerful attack.

"Destroy the rocks with Ice Shard and then use Ice Beam again!"

Before the boulders Fidens threw could reach her, Froslass howled and large icicles appeared around her. They then crashed through the boulders and stuck in the ground around Fidens, preventing him from moving around, which made Gray nervous. Froslass then shot a zigzagging beam of light blue energy at the trapped bird, and he was struck by the chilling move.

"Fidens, no!" Gray cried as the prehistoric bird fell on his face and closed his eyes, prompting the referee to change the color of Fidens' picture to black.

"Fidens is unable to battle! Gray, choose your next Pokemon!"

"Thanks for wearing Froslass out, Fidens. You deserve a long rest," Gray said gratefully as she clipped Fidens' Pokeball back on her belt. "Durus, you know what I'm thinking, right?"

"Yeah. Do it," the feline answered before Gray could second-guess herself.

"Thanks, Durus," the sixteen year old said to her starter before yanking a Pokeball, one she had grown quite accustomed to throwing, off her belt. "Decorus, I need your help!" the girl shouted as she tossed her fourth Pokeball forwards.

The Pokeball opened as soon as it struck the ground, and Decorus materialized from a white flash of light. The fairy type folded her arms over her chest and gave off an imposing aura, striking fear into Froslass, while Trentavious was too confident to notice.

"Hm... that thing again," the older boy muttered under his breath while eyeing the Florges standing in front of Gray confidently. "I know just how to handle this."

"This battle will be between Decorus and Froslass! Begin!"

"Decorus, use Grassy Terrain and follow it up with Magical Leaf!" Gray commanded in an attempt to negate Snow Warning's effects.

After putting her hands over her head, Decorus shot a ball of light into the air and it exploded. All of the bits of the ball crashed into the ground and flowers began to spring out of the battlefield, which made Trentavious curse under his breath. Then, Decorus started to spin and fired a series of rainbow colored leaves at Froslass, who was cut as a result.

"Froslass, use Thunderbolt to zap her into submission!" Trentavious barked as he pointed at Decorus, who had a confident look plastered on her face while she crossed her arms over her chest.

Decorus eyed Froslass as she ascended before being engulfed in bright yellow electricity. After grunting loudly, Froslass unleashed a zigzagging bolt of electricity that headed straight for Decorus, who scoffed at the attack before allowing her arms to fall down by her sides. Seeing this, Durus smirked at her teammate and waited eagerly as Gray stepped forwards confidently.

"Use Psychic to redirect it, Decorus!"

The bolt of electricity was stopped just millimeters away from Decorus' right hand, which she had stuck straight out. A blue line of energy outlined the electrical energy, and Decorus' eyes were also glowing blue, making Gray smile while Comis jumped up and cheered ecstatically. With a simple flick of her wrist, Decorus chucked the Thunderbolt back at Froslass at twice the speed, which made it impossible for Froslass to dodge. The ice type cried out in pain before collapsing on the ground, making Decorus laugh to herself.

"Hang in there, Froslass! Use Ominous Wind!"

"Don't let her get up! Use Vine Whip to grab Froslass, Decorus!" Gray shouted right after Trentavious.

As Froslass attempted to get off the ground, two vines shot out of Decorus' neck and wrapped around her. As she lifted Froslass into the air, Decorus waited patiently for Gray's next order, though the brunette elected to remain silent, which confused Decorus, Durus, and Comis. Trentavious, meanwhile, saw this as an opening to attack, which made Gray laugh to herself.

"Zap Decorus with Thunderbolt!"

"Slam Froslass against the ground and then use Moonblast to finish her off!"

While Froslass began to howl, Decorus smirked and threw her opponent against the ground, breaking Froslass' concentration and stopping the Thunderbolt attack as a result. Once her vines retracted, Decorus put her hands together and an orb of pink energy formed, which made everyone in the stadium gasp. The fairy type threw her arms forward quickly and a blast of pink energy flew towards Froslass, exploding on contact. The ice type was sent rolling along the grass and she went unconscious, stopping the hailstorm instantly.

"Froslass is unable to battle! Trentavious, choose your next Pokemon!"

"Good work out there, Froslass."

Trentavious withdrew the fainted Pokemon back to her capsule while her picture on the scoreboard turned black, and he glanced up at Gray and her shiny Florges. Grabbing another Pokeball off his belt, Trentavious prepared to chuck it, but stopped when Gray raised her hands as a signal to withdraw Decorus.

"Decorus, return."

The fairy type nodded before being sucked into the spherical device resting in Gray's hand, and the girl smiled after clipping Decorus' Pokeball on her belt. The shiny Pokemon's picture then turned blue, and Gray smirked as she tossed a different Pokeball onto the battlefield.

"Now, Magna, come on out!"

"Reuniclus, get out here!" Trent shouted at the same time as Gray.

The two teens watched, along with the roaring crowd, as a Magna and Reuniclus appeared at the same time on opposite sides of the battlefield. Both psychic types glared at one another and Magna started to growl lowly, catching Gray's and Durus' attention, as she was never one to be aggressive during battles.

"This battle will be between Magna and Reuniclus! Begin!"

"Let's wrap this up nice and quick, Reuniclus! Use Energy Ball!" Trentavious commanded after noticing Grassy Terrain was still active.

Reuniclus put his jello-like hands together and a ball of light green energy formed. In the blink of an eye, the bulky Pokemon fired the powerful attack at Magna, but Gray and her Pokemon didn't seem fazed by the speed or power of the attack.

"Use Protect and follow it up by using Confusion on the ground to destroy the plants!" Gray demanded tactically, wowing Durus and Comis.

Magna jumped up and landed on the ground while yelling slightly, creating a green bubble of energy. The bubble blocked the Energy Ball attack and it exploded, creating a cloud of smoke that formed around Magna. Trentavious scowled when he realized he wasn't able to see Magna, but he reacted quickly when a blast of red energy shot out of the smoke and killed all of the flowers it struck.

"Rush forwards and use Shadow Ball!"

Reuniclus obeyed his trainer's wishes and began to float forwards as quickly as he could while forming a ball of purple and black energy in both of his hands. The smoke cleared as Reuniclus crossed the middle of the battlefield and he chucked both of the Shadow Ball attacks at Magna, who was crushed as a result. After skidding along the grass, Magna winced in pain, grabbing Gray's attention.

"Hold on, Magna! Use Astonish right back, and then try Yawn!"

Magna hopped back up and was suddenly enveloped in black energy. After rushing forwards and slamming her head into Reuniclus' stomach, the air in the fully evolved Pokemon's lungs escaped his body, leaving him laying on the ground. Magna then yawned and a cloud of bubbles struck her opponent before popping, making Reuniclus yawn.

"Grab Magna with one hand and hit her with Shadow Ball!" Trentavious ordered while punching his right fist into his left hand.

Reuniclus was quick to get off the ground and he grabbed Magna with his right hand while a Shadow Ball attack was formed in his left. Magna flailed around violently in an attempt to break free of Reuniclus' grip, but was unable to do so.

"Magna, use Uproar, and let 'er rip!" Gray demanded, making Magna grin devilishly, which caught Trentavious and Reuniclus off guard.

Much to his and Trentavious' dismay, Reuniclus watched as Magna's mouth shot open and she let out a deafening scream. Everyone in the stadium covered their ears in pain as Magna continued to shriek, and eventually Reuniclus was sent flying into the wall behind Trentavious, leaving the seventeen year old standing in shock. He let out a sigh of relief, however, when Reuniclus rose from the ground and floated back onto the battlefield.

"Let's end this. Focus Blast!"

"Don't back down! Last Resort!"

Reuniclus quickly hurled a yellow ball of energy towards Magna, while the Chingling opened her mouth and a blast of white energy flew towards Reuniclus. The two attacks collided in the middle of the battlefield, and Last Resort prevailed almost immediately. Before he could react, Trentavious watched as his Pokemon was blasted into the sky before he crashed against the ground limply. Meanwhile, Magna ran over to Gray and leaped into her trainer's arms, celebrating her victory over Reuniclus.

"Reuniclus is unable to battle! Trentavious, choose your next Pokemon!" the referee shouted as Reuniclus' picture turned black, leaving Trentavious with three Pokemon while Gray had four.

"You did the best you could, buddy," Trentavious whispered with a smile as he clipped Reuniclus' Pokeball back on his belt. "Drapion, let's crush their spirits!"

Magna and Gray turned their attention back to the battlefield to see Trent's Drapion staring at them imposingly while snapping his claws repeatedly, making Comis hide behind Gray. Durus and Magna, on the other hand, glared back in response before Magna hopped out of Gray's arms and landed on the battlefield.

"Oh man, I hope Gray knows what she's doing here. If Magna could just take Drapion out, that puts Trentavious in such a huge hole!" Tara shouted frantically while waving her arms around, making Scyther shake his head as he kept his cool.

"This battle will be between Magna and Drapion! Begin!"

"Roll along the grass and use Astonish!" Gray yelled while throwing her left hand to her side.

Magna began to roll around like a ball as she was shrouded in dark black energy, but that didn't faze Trentavious or his Drapion, who continued to snap his claws.

"Drapion, keep her at bay with Pin Missile!"

Drapion grinned and threw his arms forwards while his claws flashed white. Dozens upon dozens of white arrows shot out Drapion's claws and immediately crashed down on Magna, exploding in the process. After being thrown back to Gray's feet, Magna stood up without any encouragement from Gray, Durus, or Comis, which made the teenager smile brightly.

"Way to hang in there, Magna! Now use Uproar!"

Magna grinned before her mouth shot open, and waves of sound began to fly across the battlefield. Each of the blasts of energy looked stronger than the last, yet that didn't deter Trentavious from imposing his will upon Gray and Magna.

"Take it head-on and use Toxic Spikes!"

Drapion didn't back down from the powerful blasts of sound, and after they ceased, it looked as if he hadn't taken any damage, which shocked Gray and her Pokemon. Drapion's mouth then started to glow purple, and he fired several violet arrows into the air, which sank into the battlefield and made it flash purple for a split second before returning to its normal color.

"Damnit! Magna, let another Uproar loose!" Gray commanded, clearly overwhelmed by Trent's Drapion's strength and ability to change her gameplan in a split second, which Owen and Red noticed along with their Pokemon.

"Overpower her with Venoshock!"

Drapion opened his mouth as it was glowing purple, and he fired a wave of poison, similar to a Flamethrower attack. The wave of poison began to battle back and forth with the wave of sound Magna had unleashed before prevailing. Gray's eyes went wide as Magna was launched into her chest, and she managed to catch the fainted Pokemon.

"Magna is unable to battle! Gray, choose your next Pokemon!"

"Thanks for fighting as hard as you could, Magna," Gray whispered as she looked down at the fainted Pokemon's Pokeball before putting it away. "Durus," Gray started while looking over at her starting Pokemon, who turned and stared at her trainer. "Go."

"I've been itching to get a piece of the action," the feline said as she waltzed onto the grass confidently, drawing an annoyed look from Drapion until Durus' body flashed purple due to Toxic Spikes.

Durus continued to hiss in pain, and Drapion maintained a smug look while his opponent lowered her head to the ground while trying to overcome the pain of being poisoned.

"You can do it, Durus!" Comis cheered, giving Durus a newfound sense of confidence.

Meanwhile, in the trainer room, Gray's friends and family members watched the television silently before a pair of trainers walked in.

"What's up, everyone?" Marcus greeted before turning to the TV and seeing Gray displayed alongside Comis. "Oh, I was just watching this back in the yellow stadium during Savannah's battle! Gray had the lead the last time I checked."

"They're tied with three each," Sammy informed Marcus, who pouted at the information. "Gray still has Durus, Fortis, and Decorus, and we don't know who Trentavious has."

"Well, that's good for Gray, right? She has her three strongest Pokemon!" Savannah said cheerily, only to be shot down by Gray's mother.

"That may be true, but Durus is poisoned, and Decorus and Fortis have already battled, so they're all pretty tired."

In the suite near the top of the stadium, Red and Owen continued to look down at the battlefield intently along with both their Charizard, and five of Owen's other Pokemon, which were Nidoking, Tyranitar, Manectric, Gallade, and Krookodile.

"Even though Gray had the lead, it feels like Trent should be winning by a lot more," Krookodile said to Owen as he walked over to his trainer. "Having Drapion use Toxic Spikes really puts Trent at an advantage."

"Definitely. Plus, he's been inflicting huge blows to Gray's psyche with all of those status inflicting moves and Spikes to start the battle. That was a great way to dictate the tone Trentavious wanted to set," Red added, impressed by the trainer he was watching. "It's pretty clear that he's no rookie. No one I know has shown such poise and cunning when they were first year trainers."

Owen remained silent while everyone else gave their opinions on the competitors and their Pokemon, and he continued jotting down notes about Gray and Trentavious.

"This battle will be between Durus and Drapion! Begin!"

"Fire a Power Gem at 'em, Durus!" Gray shouted while Comis began bouncing up and down anxiously.

Durus hissed before the jewel on her head flashed white, and that was followed by several blasts of white energy being fired at Drapion, who seemed to be caught off guard by the attack. Trentavious, however, kept his composure, and was quick to come to his Pokemon's aide.

"Cancel it out with Pin Missile!"

Drapion nodded at his trainer's words while his claws began to glow white, and he stuck his arms forwards. Several dozen white arrows were fired at the blasts of white energy Durus had shot, and they all collided, causing several mini explosions. Thick clouds of smoke covered the battlefield and prevented the audience and trainers from seeing, but that didn't stop Gray from calling out to her Pokemon.

"Perfect! Charge through the smoke!" Gray yelled as she punched her right fist straight forwards.

The smoke continued to blind everyone, and not even Durus knew where she was headed. Comis quickly looked up at Gray in confusion, as he could tell she had no idea where Durus was, but the confident expression on her face calmed him down.

"Wreck Durus with Cross Poison!" Trentavious demanded despite not being able to see Durus.

Drapion, however, obeyed his knowledgeable trainer and crossed his arms over each other to form an x shape. After his arms began glowing violet, Drapion threw them forwards and a purple x zipped across the battlefield. As it entered the cloud of smoke, the thick air rose and revealed the battlefield. Much to everyone's shock, Durus was gone, and Gray managed to keep a straight face.

"What!? Where did Durus go?" Trentavious screamed in confusion while looking for the Pokemon frantically.

Suddenly, Durus appeared in front of Trent and smirked at the boy before turning and running towards Drapion, who was unaware of her presence. Gray, on the other hand, knew exactly where Durus was, and she began to beam at the fact that her plan worked.

"Now hop on Drapion's back and use Slash repeatedly!"

Drapion attempted to turn around, but was caught off guard when he felt a sudden weight literally fall on his shoulders. Durus managed to grab a hold of one of her opponent's fangs with one paw and began slashing him with the other, making Drapion flail violently and roar in pain. Everyone watching began to cheer for Durus as she held on for dear life, but Trentavious and Drapion were clearly not amused by Durus' antics.

"Shake her off and use Venoshock!" the seventeen year old bellowed with rage.

Matching his trainer's rage, Drapion whipped his head forwards and sent Durus flying across the battlefield before she landed on Gray's half of the battlefield. Not wanting to give her a chance to get back up, Drapion shot a wave of purple toxins at Durus. The feline was crushed by the wicked attack, and she stopped right in front of Gray and Comis, who looked on in concern. Surprisingly, Durus willed herself back to her feet and locked eyes with Drapion, who began taunting her to charge. Before Durus could react, her body flashed purple and she let out a roared pain before falling down, prompting the referee to walk over to Gray's half of the battlefield.

"Durus is unable to ba-"

"Wa-wait," Durus said as she forced the word out of her body with all of her energy.

Everyone stared at the Persian as she stood tall. Her legs shook violently, and she was panting dramatically, but there was no way in hell she was going to fall to Trentavious without taking one of his Pokemon with her.

"That's the spirit, Durus! That's the spirit!" Comis shrieked while waving his arms around frantically.

"Don't hold anything back, Durus! Use Pay Day!" Gray commanded loudly, making Durus grin weakly before pointing her head to the sky.

Within nanoseconds, she fired a blast of golden energy from her mouth and the powerful attack struck Drapion in the face, knocking him onto his back and out cold, which prompted Durus to let out a sigh of relief before walking over to Gray in exhaustion.

"Drapion is unable to battle! Trentavious, choose your next Pokemon!"

"Thanks for the hard work, Drapion. We'll train harder for next time," Trentavious said with a proud grin while eyeing the scoreboard, which wasn't in his favor. Gray still had three Pokemon, two of which had taken little to no damage. "Now it's time to stop playing around! Serperior, let's go!"

The powerful trainer's fifth Pokeball opened and revealed his starting Pokemon, who slithered onto the grass covered battlefield with a grin on her face. It was clear Serperior was comfortable on the battlefield, and that scared the crap out of Gray.

"I knew Serperior was coming sooner or later. This is a problem. Durus took so much damage during that last battle, plus she's poisoned! I could use Decorus to try and extend the lead, but if I use Grassy Terrain, I'll be boosting the power of Serperior's grass type attacks. There's no way I'm choosing Fortis; I need to save him for last, especially if Trent's last Pokemon is that Abomasnow. Oh man, this is tough!"

"Gray, I've got this," Durus informed her trainer as she began to walk onto the battlefield.

"Are you sure, Durus? You can take a break if you need to."

Durus didn't respond to Gray, and she continued panting even while the referee raised his arms in the air. As he did so, Durus and Serperior locked eyes and began hissing at each other, adding even more tension to the air. The crowd could feel the hatred radiating from both sides and they began to feast on it by exploding with mixed cheers for Durus and Serperior, neither of whom seemed fazed by the support.

"This battle will be between Durus and Serperior! Begin!"

"Start off aggressively! Feint Attack!"

Wanting to use the same tactic that had worked against Drapion, Gray smirked and punched her fist forwards while Durus disregarded the pain she was feeling, as a wave of adrenaline was suddenly coursing through her veins. Before he knew it, Trentavious saw Durus reappear right in front of him, and she began to charge towards Serperior, who had no clue as to where Durus was.

"Turn around and use Dragon Pulse, Serperior!"

Gray flinched when Serperior showcased her lightning quick reactions, as she managed to turn around and fire a blast of light-colored energy in the shape of a dragon in under a second. Durus was sent rolling behind Trentavious as a result of the attack, but she got back up and waited for Gray's next set of orders.

"Hang tight, Durus! Get in close and use Slash!" the brunette instructed confidently.

Sensing the confidence in her trainer's voice, Durus bounded towards Serperior while her claws extended and began to glow white, and she leaped in the air before swiping her arms viciously. Serperior slithered away in pain after Durus slashed her, and the two Pokemon changed positions, as Serperior felt more comfortable being closer to Trentavious while Durus felt calmer nearer Gray.

"Serperior, retaliate with Leaf Storm!"

The fully evolved Unova starter began to grunt as a hurricane of leaves started to surround her, while Durus' body flashed purple, making her cry out in pain before leaning to her left as if she were about to collapse. Somehow she didn't, and Durus snapped out of her funk only to see several hundred leaves flying straight towards her.

"Durus, use Feint Attack to dodge it and then use Bite on Serperior's tail!"

In the blink of an eye, Durus disappeared from where she was standing and the Leaf Storm attack Serperior had used went to waste while also lowering her special attack, which made Trent curse under his breath. Once again, Durus got the better of her opponents and reappeared next to Serperior before she lunged forwards and chomped down on the snake's tail.

"Drain her health, Serperior! Giga Drain!" Trentavious yelled as Durus began to swing Serperior around.

Suddenly, a tornado of swirling green energy appeared around Serperior's body, and it quickly engulfed Durus, who started hissing in pain before letting go of Serperior. Gray watched in fear as her opponent's starting Pokemon looked to be regaining her health, but Durus managed to break out of the tornado before falling on her face in exhaustion.

The crowd suddenly started to chant Durus' name, grabbing her attention as a sudden rush of power swept over her, and she let out a mighty roar, making the crowd reach a feverish pitch. Trentavious and Serperior didn't appear to be entertained by the sight, and they motioned for Gray to take her turn, which she did almost immediately afterwards.

"Fight through the pain and use Power Gem, Durus!"

Nodding, Durus turned around and locked her sights on Serperior. The red jewel on her head suddenly started shooting blasts of white energy, and Serperior was blown into the air after being struck by several blasts at the same time. Just as Serperior hit the ground, Durus was hurt by the poison from her battle with Drapion, and she collapsed. Both sides struggled to push themselves off the ground, though they somehow managed to without encouragement from their trainers. After locking eyes, both Durus and Serperior turned around and nodded at their trainers, who nodded in response before issuing another set of commands.

"This is it, Serperior! Use Leaf Storm one more time!"

"Match her power, Durus! Fire a max power Pay Day!"

Serperior was engulfed in a hurricane of leaves while Durus reared her head back and began to charge a burst of gold energy in her mouth. With a powerful flick of her tail, Serperior sent hundreds of razor sharp leaves at Durus, who responded by shooting a beam of gold light. The two attacks somehow missed each other and hit the opposing Pokemon, sending them flying across the battlefield and into their trainers, who were knocked over as a result.

"Both Pokemon are unable to battle! Trentavious, choose your last Pokemon! Gray, choose your next Pokemon!" the referee shouted as Serperior's and Durus' pictures turned black.

"Way to fight your heart out, Durus. I promise, we aren't going to let Trentavious win," Gray vowed before withdrawing the fainted Persian and looking at her side of the scoreboard. Her two strongest Pokemon remained and had already battled, while Trentavious had only one, though it had yet to exhaust any of its energy.

"You did your best, Serperior. Thanks for that."

Trent smiled and patted his Pokemon on her head before Serperior was sucked back into her Pokeball, and he slowly rose before looking across the battlefield.

Gray stared right back, and the two trainers continued to stare each other down, refusing to give in to the other. Comis, who was standing by Gray's side, looked back and forth at Trentavious and Gray, and waited to see which of the two would break first. Gray caught Comis off guard and made him fall on his backside when she made a sharp motion in which she grabbed a Pokeball and held up to her face.

"Decorus, I choose you!" the girl shouted as she released her shiny Pokemon for a second time, making Decorus' picture on the scoreboard return to its normal color.

Once Decorus finished her introduction, her body flashed a light purple color, and she fell over in pain, resulting in Gray cursing.

"Time to put it all on the line. Abomasnow, I'm counting on you!" Trentavious roared as he stuck his final Pokeball out.

When the spherical device opened, an enormous Pokemon materialized on the other half of the grassy ground. Gray frowned at the sight of the Pokemon and began to tremble slightly, remembering the strange transformation it had undergone while she ran into Trentavious back in Saffron City just before the start of the Indigo League. She snapped out of her thoughts when the referee began speaking, though she couldn't stop thinking back to that encounter.

"This battle will be between Decorus and Abomasnow! Begin!"

"Abomasnow, Sludge Bomb!"

Gray once again snapped back to the events going on before her, and she watched as Abomasnow opened his gigantic mouth before shooting several bullets of poison at Decorus, who looked disgusted. As the super effective attack closed in on her Pokemon, Gray took a deep breath and looked down at Comis before grinning, making the Gligar smile in response.

"Shred the poison with Magical Leaf, Decorus!"

Decorus quickly stuck her arms out to her sides and Gray was relieved to see a wave of rainbow colored leaves fly towards the Sludge Bomb attack. Much to her dismay, Gray watched as Decorus' Magical Leaf attack wasn't strong enough to content with Abomasnow's Sludge Bomb before having to see Decorus get clobbered by each blast of poison.

"Now trap Decorus with Rock Tomb!"

Gray's eyes shot wide open when three enormous rocks shot out of the ground and caved in on Decorus, suffocating the fairy type. The structure of the rocks looked similar to a teepee, and the part facing Abomasnow was left slightly open, exposing Decorus' face and body. While her Pokemon continued to suffer from the painful pressure on her body, Gray began to tug at her hair as she tried thinking of a way to free Decorus.

"That's it!" Gray exclaimed before looking ahead confidently. "Decorus, use Psychic to pry yourself free!"

Slowly, Decorus took a deep breath and her eyes suddenly turned blue. Thin lines of blue energy appeared around each of the three stones, and they were hurled off the battlefield in an instant. Once she was freed, Decorus fell on her hands and began panting in exhaustion before crying out in pain from being poisoned by Toxic Spikes, which caused Gray to bite her lower lip.

"Razor Leaf, Abomasnow!" Trentavious ordered loudly as Decorus continued to breathe dramatically.

Abomasnow followed through with his orders and threw his arms to his sides, firing several sharp leaves towards his downed opponent, who slowly lifted her head up and stared at the incoming attack in horror. Her attention quickly shifted to Gray, however, when the young girl spoke up.

"Hold your ground and use Grassy Terrain to get rid of Toxic Spikes!" she shouted, knowing Decorus wasn't going to last much longer.

Decorus seemed to be thinking the same thing as Gray, and she slowly stood up before being sliced up by the devastating Razor Leaf attack, which nearly knocked her onto her back. She fought through the pain, however, and placed her hands above her head. A ball of light suddenly formed and was shot in the air before breaking apart and crashing into the battlefield, causing flowers to spring up everywhere. Content with what she had done, Decorus slowly looked over at the scoreboard and smiled.

"I'm sorry I couldn't have done more, Fortis."

With that, Decorus fell on her face and was down for the count, prompting the referee to raise his arms.

"Decorus is unable to battle! Gray, choose your final Pokemon!"

"I can't begin to thank you enough, Decorus. I know we're going to win this!" Gray proclaimed as she withdrew the shiny Pokemon back to her Pokeball. "Comis, this is what it's all boiled down to. I want you to watch this battle closely and try to takeaway some things you want to focus on. Okay?" Gray asked her youngest Pokemon, who nodded in response.

Meanwhile, in the trainer room, everyone held their breath.

"Wow. They're evenly matched," Savannah muttered in shock while the television was focusing on the scoreboard, which had automatically returned Fortis' picture to its normal colors while Decorus' turned black.

"Yeah, I have no idea who's going to end up pulling this one out," Tracey announced while shaking her head, not knowing how to react.

Up in the luxury box at the top of the stadium, Owen and Red were sitting on the edge of their seats while their Pokemon were pressed up against the glass watching the battle.

"Oh man, I can't wait to see how this ends! Regardless of who wins, I won't be upset. This was such an incredible battle!" Red exclaimed while Owen remained reserved and tried to contain his excitement while writing down even more notes.

"This is going to be an insane finish. I just have this gut feeling this'll go down to the wire."

Standing on the battlefield, Gray turned away from Comis and slowly grabbed her last Pokeball. Holding it up in front of her face, Gray smiled and enlarged the device before looking up at Trentavious and Abomasnow.

"You know, Trent, this is the most intense battle I've ever been a part of!" Gray shouted to the older boy, who maintained a stone cold expression. "It doesn't matter, though, because I'm gonna beat you!"

"Let's see you try!" Trent shouted back.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Gray hurled Fortis Pokeball forwards as hard as she could.

"It's all up to you, Fortis! Let's do this!" the girl screamed.

In an explosion of light, Fortis flew out of his Pokeball and landed on the ground softly before looking over at the scoreboard, which showed he and Abomasnow were the final Pokemon left on both sides. The crowd exploded with cheers as both Pokemon glared at each other until Fortis turned his back to Abomasnow, confusing and angering the ice type.

"Gray, we're gonna win this together," Fortis said while extending his closed fist to the girl standing before him.

"You bet, buddy. Let's show 'em how strong we are!" Gray replied while fist bumping Fortis, who nodded at her words before turning back around and looking at Abomasnow and Trentavious with an anxious smirk while flapping his wings.

"This battle will be between Fortis and Abomasnow! The winner will be moving on to the semifinals, which will occur in two days! Begin!"

"Let's deal some heavy damage! Use Blizzard, Abomasnow!"

Abomasnow faithfully obeyed his trainer's commands and began to inhale copious amounts of oxygen before his mouth shot open. A horizontal tornado of snow and ice shot out of the beasts mouth and made its way towards Fortis, though it didn't travel at a fast enough speed to present any issues for Gray and her most powerful Pokemon.

"Ascend and use Flamethrower, Fortis! Make sure to get the battlefield, too!"

With one mighty flap of his wings, Fortis shot into the air like a rocket and dodged the super effective attack Abomasnow had just sent his way. Shortly after reaching a comfortable height, Fortis reared his head back and let a wave of fire loose from his mouth. Not to be outdone, Trentavious issued a perfect counterattack to the scorching hot move.

"Create a shield with Rock Tomb and get ready to attack if Fortis gets in close!" he yelled while throwing his arm out to his side.

Abomasnow stomped on the grass, and three large rocks shot out of the ground and appeared in front of him. After taking cover behind the sturdy structure, Abomasnow waited until Fortis' Flamethrower ceased. When it did, all of the flowers from Decorus' Grassy Terrain were burnt to smithereens, getting rid of the field changing move. Abomasnow continued to hide behind the rocks he had created and Trentavious had a cocky grin on his face, which made Gray's blood boil.

"If they want to hide, we'll just have to hit 'em from here. Use Earthquake, Fortis!"

Shocked by his opponent's movepool, Trentavious gasped when a column of dirt shot out of the ground and struck Abomasnow in the chin, sending him flying over the rocks he had been using as a shield. After picking himself up, Abomasnow broke down the rocks and hurriedly obeyed his trainer's aggressive commands.

"Get in close and use Ice Punch!"

Despite his large stature, Abomasnow moved rather nimbly across the battlefield while his right fist started to glow light blue with freezing energy. Seeing this as an opportunity to deal a close ranged blow, Gray smirked and threw her fist forwards.

"Fortis, hit Abomasnow with Dragon Claw!"

Fortis obliged without hesitation, and the claws on his hands began to extend while also glowing neon green. The two Pokemon met in the middle of the battlefield and exchanged blows, which sent both combatants skidding back to their trainer's, who had differing reaction. Gray smiled at Fortis and clapped for his performance, while Trentavious seemed to be growing frustrated.

"I think it's time we show Gray we aren't going to back down, Abomasnow!" Trentavious shouted at his final Pokemon, who turned and nodded in response.

Gray, Fortis, and Comis all looked at each other quizzically before watching Trent place his hand over a bracelet on his right wrist after tossing a strange, rainbow colored stone to Abomasnow.

"Mega Evolve!"

Everyone stared as Abomasnow was encapsulated in a pink shell of light that masked him from view, and it faded away shortly after a blast of light occurred. When the shell disappeared, Gray gasped at the sight of the transformed Pokemon, who was leaning on his hands and appeared to have much puffier hair, which was sticking upwards like spikes on a porcupine.

"That's a game changer," Chase muttered far louder than he expected, resulting in him sweat dropping when everyone in the room stared at him.

"What is that!?" Billy screamed while staring up at Chase, who rubbed the back of his head sheepishly before regaining his composure and answering.

"It's a special technique called Mega Evolution, which is something very few trainers are capable of learning. To be able to use it, you have to get approval from some guy in Kalos, and also share such a strong bond with your Pokemon it's hard to imagine. Only one Gym Leader, aside from Blue, is able to use it. Most members of the Elite 4 across all regions can't use it, save for the Champion, at least to my knowledge."

"What does Mega Evolution do?" Tara inquired.

"It raises the stats of the user to a completely different level," Savannah answered rather fearfully. "This might be the strongest Pokemon Fortis and Gray will ever face."

Back on the battlefield, Gray continued staring at Abomasnow, filled with terror. The entire stadium was silent, yet Gray couldn't even hear herself think due to how scared she was.

"Gray!" Fortis called, snapping the teen out of her terrified mindset. "We're not giving up, right?"

The brunette looked at her Pokemon blankly, thinking he was asking a stupid question. She soon backtracked and found herself in a much more confident state of mind when there was a small flame burning in Fortis' eyes, which made Gray smile before looking down at Comis. The Gligar had the same fire in his eyes despite not being involved in the battle, and that's when Gray knew she had to give the battle everything she had.

"Right!"

"Good! Now let's show these guys that some fancy transformation won't beat us!" Fortis shouted before turning back around to face his Mega Evolved opponent and Trentavious, who was cackling victoriously.

"Okay! Use Flamethrower!" Gray yelled, a sudden rush of adrenaline flowing through her body, similar to the one Durus had experienced during her battle against Serperior.

Fortis grinned as he reared his head back while Abomasnow and Trentavious were busy focusing on the cheering crowd, not recognizing the applause was for Fortis and Gray deciding to fight to the bitter end. As soon as the wave of fire escaped Fortis' mouth, Gray smirked and watched as Abomasnow was charred to a crisp by the powerful attack, making him cry out in pain. Trentavious suddenly shook his head and regained his focus, but Gray didn't pay any attention to him. Fortis suddenly unleashed another Flamethrower attack without Gray's approval, but the girl didn't care due to how effective the previous attack had been.

"Charge and block it with Brick Break!"

Abomasnow suddenly ran across the battlefield while his right hand was glowing white, and he began to chop through the blistering wave of fire, shocking both Gray and Fortis. Comis, meanwhile, fell on his backside in awe before nearly fainting at the sight. Once Abomasnow got close enough to Fortis, a few strands of his strange hair shot forwards like rope and wrapped around Fortis, preventing the dragon type from moving.

"Now use Blizzard, Abomasnow!"

Gray covered her eyes as Abomasnow opened his mouth and released a frigid blast of icy energy. Fortis cried out in pain and fell to the ground after Abomasnow released him from his grip, and Gray took her arm away from her eyes before worriedly looking down at her last Pokemon.

"Fortis, are you alright?" the girl inquired sincerely.

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine!" the Flygon shouted back as he suddenly shot into the air, much to everyone's surprise.

Gray shook her head in response while smiling at Fortis' resilient attitude, and then she shifted her attention to her opponents, who were focused on the Pokemon that was flying around at light speed.

"Okay then, Flamethrower again!"

As Fortis began to pick up speed, Abomasnow lost track of him, allowing Fortis to land yet another Flamethrower. This time, the attack was much stronger and knocked the Mega Evolved Pokemon onto his back, which made Gray and Comis cheer. Fortis, on the other hand, continued to zip through the air at mach speed, refusing to surrender to Trentavious and his mighty Abomasnow.

"Answer back with Razor Leaf!"

After rising to his feet, Abomasnow threw his arms out to his sides and waves of razor sharp leaves were sent into the air, and they somehow managed to find Fortis, who stopped flying in order to look down at Gray and nod at her. Somehow the girl understood Fortis' simple motion, and Gray cleared her throat before throwing both of her arms out to her sides.

"Send it away with Boomburst, Fortis!"

Fortis quickly flapped his wings and shrieked at the same time, creating several rings of yellow energy, which sliced through the Razor Leaf attack and exploded on contact with Abomasnow, who was sent rolling back towards Trentavious. While Abomasnow struggled to get up, Fortis landed on the ground stoically and cracked his knuckles.

"Quickly, use Rock Tomb to trap Fortis!" Trentavious shouted, catching Fortis and Gray off guard.

Abomasnow hurriedly slammed his hands on the grass and three large rocks appeared around Fortis before trapping him. The Flygon began to grunt in pain lowly, though it was loud enough for Gray to hear, prompting her to act as fast as her mind would allow her to. After thinking through dozens of different potential ways out in just a matter of milliseconds, Gray smirked when she settled on the response she knew would work best.

"Oh no you don't! Use Boomburst to launch the rocks at Abomasnow!"

Everyone watched as Fortis raised his head upwards and shrieked at the top of his lungs, creating a ring of yellow energy that caused the rocks pressing against him to explode. Once they did, Trentavious and his Abomasnow glared at Fortis, who simply stared them down in response, opting to not get flashy and taunt them or celebrate.

"This has gone on long enough! Abomasnow, Ice Punch!" Trentavious boomed, wanting to end the battle with one final blow.

Sharing her rival's mindset, Gray threw her right hand out as Abomasnow's fist began to glow light blue while he charged towards Fortis, who didn't move a muscle.

"Fortis, finish this with Dragon Claw!"

Just like Abomasnow, Fortis was eager to obey his trainer. The claws on the ends of his hands began to glow neon green while extending exponentially, and the dragon type flew straight towards his opponent with the intent to end the battle. Both Pokemon wound back before unleashing their attacks, which collided in the middle of the battlefield and began battling back and forth before an explosion occurred. The biggest smoke cloud ever created shot up and filled the entire stadium, making everyone cover their mouths and noses while holding their breath.

When the smoke settled, Fortis and Abomasnow were revealed to be standing and glaring at each other, cuts and bruises covering their bodies. As both Pokemon continued to eye each other, Gray and Trentavious locked eyes for a split second before Gray's heart fell into her stomach.

"Abomasnow is unable to battle! Gray and Fortis are the winners and will be moving on to the semifinals!"

"Holy crap! We actually did it!" Gray screamed as she sprinted forwards and tackled Fortis in a sheer state of ecstasy.

Comis was quick to join in on the celebration and began laughing along with Gray and Fortis until Trentavious walked over. Sighing, the teen ran a hand through his hair, and a slight smile crept across his face, which threw Gray and her Pokemon off.

"Gray, I just wanna say that was a great battle, even though I should've won," Trentavious told the younger girl with a laugh. "It sucks knowing that I lost, but I'm not as pissed about losing to a pretty good trainer."

"Oh, thanks, Trentavious! It's really cool how your not acting like..." Gray paused while sweat dropping, not wanting to call Trent a name while he tried to take a step in the right direction.

"Haha, no worries. Still, I'll crush you the next time we battle," he said with a serious tone and expression, making Gray freeze up slightly while Fortis simply nodded at the seventeen year old. "Best of luck." With that, Trentavious walked off the battlefield, and Gray followed suit, wanting to celebrate her arrival in the semifinals.

Holy crap, that took two whole days to write (and an extra day to edit), so I hope it was a good read. Gray managed to defeat Trentavious and is now advancing to the semifinals, where she'll run into another rival. Till next time, peace out.
