~Color~
It was the colors he noticed that first morning. The world had shifted. Everything was different. The infant Turtles were different. He was different. New thoughts, new abilities, and a new view of things, that had nothing to do with the change in his height. Where before there had only been brights and darks, blues and greens, now… now there was color. Color he didn't have names for yet. Colors he hadn't imagined. There was so much, so many new things, to learn and to take in, but the colors… he never got tired of looking.
Even the tunnels had their own colors. The water dripping down the walls grew an array of fungi and mosses. The lights above were no longer just brights; they had hue. Everything had changed. Even music sounded different to his ears. Melodies took on new meanings, when there was color. When his boys were small, he made sure to take them above, to expose them to as much of the new world as he could. He watched their eyes go wide with wonder, and felt it thrill through his soul. Life was full of color, and he didn't intend to miss any of it.
A/N: When I got the prompt, Color, I was a little stumped for a unique angle... until I googled what rats see.
Rats see on the UV spectrum, which essentially means they don't see color the way we do. They see lights and darks most clearly, and are able to distinguish colors on the blue end of the spectrum most clearly, so blues and greens. The idea of Splinter's vision changing with the mutation took hold.
