Theme Song
A new region, and new friends (Gray's Kanto team disappears and is replaced by Comis and two other Pokemon)
Who will be there till the end (Comis swoops past the screen, another Pokemon shoots a Bullet Seed, and another uses Ember)
The goal is the same (Gray stares out at Indigo Plateau)
Can you attain fame? (Gray envisions herself as a champion alongside the Johto Elite 4)
Let it go(2x)! A fresh new start! (Three Pokeballs open and release Comis and two other Pokemon)
The loss stings(2x), it sits in your heart! (Fortis collapses in front of Marcus' Garchomp)
You'll move on(2x) go play your part! (A boy and his Totodile glare at Gray and Comis from afar)
You can never be sure... (Gray stands with her Kanto and Johto teams while posing for a picture)
If the past will collide with the future... (Two Pokemon stare at each other with the screen split in half, and fire and water appear behind them)
Pokemon!
What's up, everyone? I came up with a new theme song, which will be used for the first two arcs of Johto, so yeah. Last chapter, Gray lost to Marcus in the semifinals of the Indigo League in an incredibly close finish, with Fortis falling just before Garchomp. Marcus then beat Savannah in the championship round of the Indigo League, and Gray decided to head home, as there wasn't anything left to do at the Indigo League. This chapter will be the final one of the story, and all will be explained in the A/N at the end of the chapter. Now, let's get going!
Defender31415: Yeah, she did a great job
Guest: Thanks, and when I wrote it, I didn't think the sendoff was underwhelming. After reading it, however, I agree with you 100% and will go back and edit the crap out of the ending sometime next week to make sure Chase and Tara get the exits they deserve (it was only nine paragraphs, which seemed like a lot more at the time), so thank you for pointing that out
Blaze Falcon: Thank you! I didn't really consider Leviculus as the MVP until you brought it up, but I totally agree with you now that you said it. I figured I'd have Gray reach the semis because most of the time people finish in the top 16 or 8 in their first years, and Gray's only getting one more story (maybe a third, depending on how long the second takes), so a jump from top 16 to runner-up with only a year of experience seems like a bit of a stretch compared to Owen's jump from Hoenn to Sinnoh

Gray sighed and pushed a strand of hair out of her eyes as she sat out on the balcony of her apartment in Saffron City. It had been two days since she lost to Marcus in the semifinals, yet there was no sense of disappointment or shame. Both she and her Pokemon gave the battle everything they had and nearly defeated the eventual winner of the tournament. Had anyone seen it coming? Highly unlikely. Still, Gray smiled at the flashbacks of her final battle before stretching her arms over her head. The sun was rising now, and the busy streets were somehow buzzing with activity. Somewhere down there, Gray's mother was walking along the streets.
"Hey," a robotic voice called, making Gray turn in her chair and smile.
Durus strolled out of the apartment while yawning, and she sat down in front of her trainer. Of all the Pokemon, Durus had taken the loss the hardest. While Fortis was the last one to fall against Marcus, and his rival, Garchomp, he quickly came to grasp with the fact that he wasn't the stronger Pokemon. Of course that bothered him, but at least he wasn't harping on his failure. Durus, on the other hand, had beaten herself up about not being able to defeat any of Marcus' Pokemon, and she hated the idea of not traveling the region.
"It's good to see you're finally getting some sun," Gray said, poking fun at the feline in front of her.
Durus chuckled at the comment and looked down at the city sadly, hanging her head. Gray watched as Durus turned around once again, and she locked eyes with her Pokemon, who shook her head.
"I'm sor-"
"Stop," Gray ordered, her facial expression turning to stone.
Durus closed her mouth and looked away from Gray before attempting to speak once again, receiving an annoyed look from her trainer.
"It's just... I can't help but hate being done. We just spent eleven months traveling and battling, and it's all gone like that!" Durus shouted while staring right at Gray. "It sucks, Gray! It sucks!"
Before she could continue screaming, Durus flinched in shock as Gray bent down and hugged her, which somehow eased her nerves instantly. After pulling away, Durus saw Gray smiling warmly, making her smile.
"How about we take a walk?" Gray suggested, which was met with an emphatic nod from Durus.
000
"See? Aren't you feeling a lot better, Durus?" Gray asked as she and her starting Pokemon sat on a hill looking down at a complex full of battlefields.
It had been the area where Gray found Fortis during her party before the Indigo League, and dozens of little kids were battling each other with their trusty partners. Seeing the weak battling made Durus smile, as she remembered being in a similar situation when she and Gray started their adventure across Kanto. Of course, she hated Gray and refused to listen to what she said for a few days, but the two never talked about those memories.
"It does, actually. There's something about watching these kids that makes me... happier. Maybe it's because I know some of them are going to be as strong as we are, or it could be because we used to be like them. I don't know what it is, but it's working."
"That's good to hear," Gray said before laying down and looking up at the clouds overhead. "Ya know, it's funny how our journey's just over. I don't mind, but I feel kind of empty inside now that there isn't anywhere else to go."
"Seriously?" a familiar voice asked, making Gray shoot off the ground in shock.
After turning around, the girl saw Owen walking towards her while shaking his head, and he sat down next to Durus. The feline purred as Owen began petting her, and he looked over at Gray as if she were an idiot, which made her blush in embarrassment.
"You do realize the Johto region is to the west of Indigo Plateau?" the Kalos champion quizzed, expecting Gray to suddenly become enthusiastic. She didn't, however, and instead looked up at the sky.
"I know, but traveling across a different region just doesn't make me feel comfortable. I'd have to leave all of my Pokemon behind, and the same with my family and friends. At least when I was getting badges here, I had the option of coming home," Gray told Owen, who nodded at the girl's feelings.
"I had the same apprehension when I was traveling, but you need to learn to get over it if you want to achieve your dreams," Owen replied before pulling six Pokeballs off his belt and opening them.
Charizard, Feraligatr, Sceptile, Infernape, Snivy, and Greninja appeared and smiled at Gray and Durus before going off to play, leaving Owen with the rookie and her starter.
"Each time I started in a new region, I felt scared, but each time I made a new friend right off the bat. Feraligatr helped me start in Johto, Sceptile in Hoenn, and you know the rest. If you're worried about that, there's no need to be. You're going to meet and catch new Pokemon. They won't replace your others, but they're just as important to you."
"I... guess you're right," Gray muttered before petting Durus, who nuzzled up against her. "Wait, shouldn't you be in Kalos, or something?" the girl inquired, making Owen laugh.
"I'm on my way right now, actually, now that I found the fourth member of my Elite 4... at least for the next few years or so," the seventeen year old answered, grabbing Gray's attention. "Trent's gonna make a pretty good addition, so long as he keeps his head on straight."
Gray frowned at the information and turned her attention to Owen's six starters, which made her think of her own Pokemon. Comis really wanted to get stronger, and there was no way the others would be able to help him as much as they thought they could. Plus, Gray still wanted to become a champion of a region. As she rose to her feet, a smile spread across the girl's face, and she looked over at Owen. As she did, Durus raised her head in confusion, not knowing what her trainer was about to say.
"You know what? I'm going! I'm going to Johto, and I'll win the Silver Conference!"
"That's great, Gray!" Owen exclaimed, making the brunette beam. "While we're on the topic of going to different regions, I need to tell you why I stopped by," the Kalos champion stated as he rose from the grass and looked Gray in the eyes.
"Sure. What's up?"
"Well..." Owen said before cracking his knuckles nervously. "I was thinking a bit, and I had some conversations with my Pokemon."
Gray eyed the older boy, who recognized the look on her face and decided to get to the point.
"I want to take Fortis with me to Kalos and train him," Owen stated, making Gray fall in shock.
Once she got up, the girl began to dust herself off before locking eyes with the champion and trying to find words that could best describe how she was feeling about the idea.
"Are you serious? I mean, I know why you'd want to, but wouldn't that distract you from training your other Pokemon?" the girl inquired, which was answered with Owen shaking his head violently.
"Not at all. I have my team set, and most of my other Pokemon are just about done with their training. As for Fortis, there's something special about him, and I want to see just how strong he can be. So, what do you say? I know it's sudden and all, but I couldn't find you at Indigo Plateau, and I'm leaving in a few hours."
Gray ran a hand through her hair and sighed loudly, not knowing what to do. She wanted Fortis and her other Pokemon to reach their potential, but was it considered cheating if someone else, let alone a champion, raised your Pokemon? Well, there are Day Care Centers everywhere, so probably not.
"...Okay, but I can call him back whenever I want, right?" the girl quizzed.
"Of course. If you don't feel comfortable having him with me, I'll send him back as soon as you want me to."
Gray nodded and grabbed a Pokeball off her belt before releasing it, which revealed Fortis. The dragon type looked around in confusion after bowing to Owen, and he eyed Gray intently.
"Fortis, I know this is really sudden, but Owen wants to take you to Kalos and train you with the rest of his Pokemon! I'm gonna be traveling to another region, so I don't think you or the others would get to come. What do you think?"
"I... I'd be honored," Fortis answered before bowing to Owen, which made the older teen smile before he bowed in response. "Man, I can't wait to show you how strong I get!" Fortis exclaimed, making Gray giggle before she hugged her Pokemon tightly.
"Good! I want you to work as hard as you can, and be respectful. Okay?" Gray requested, which was met with a nod. "Good. I'm gonna miss you, Fortis. Owen, here's his Pokeball," Gray said as she handed Owen Fortis' Pokeball.
"Thanks. We're going to transform Fortis into a beast, don't you worry," Owen said before zapping the Flygon into his Pokeball, along with his other Pokemon. "Good luck with your Johto trip, Gray. We'll be watching and rooting for ya."
"Thanks. Maybe we can battle again when I win the Silver Conference," Gray replied while laughing, which made Owen laugh.
The two shook hands before Owen left, and Gray looked down at Durus with a smile.
"Come on, Durus. We have to tell the others about my decision."
000
Gray slowly opened the door to her apartment and walked in to see her mother and Billy sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch, while the five Pokemon were released from their Pokeballs before bounding into the entertainment room. Gray quickly called the Pokemon into the kitchen where her mother and brother were sitting, and they followed despite being confused.
"What's the matter, Gray?" the girl's mother inquired, which was met with a deep inhale before Gray made her Pokemon sit down.
"While we were out on our walk, we met Owen and he convinced me to travel to the Johto region! I'm going to be competing in the Silver Conference, and Fortis is going to Kalos to train with Owen in Kalos," Gray announced, making her mother smile while Billy scowled.
The five Pokemon, meanwhile, didn't really know how to react to the news, because they weren't sure what the big deal was.
"Since I'm going to be restarting my badge hunt, I think I have to go to Johto with a clean slate, which means you all are going to stay here in Saffron City," Gray announced while pointing at all of her Pokemon before settling on one, who was pouting. "Except you, Comis. You're coming with me!"
"Wow! Really!?" the Gligar inquired as he flew at Gray and landed on her head. "This is so awesome! I'm gonna compete in a league!"
Everyone laughed at the happy Pokemon's reaction, and they quickly turned their attention back to Gray, who cleared her throat before speaking once again.
"We're gonna head out in a day or two, so I need to get my stuff packed!" Gray shouted before attempting to leave the kitchen. She was stopped, however, by the five Pokemon she was going to be leaving behind.
"Aww! We're gonna miss you guys!" Magna shouted while sitting on the couch in Gray's apartment.
"Yeah, it's going to be weird without you two," Leviculus muttered before hugging Gray, who embraced her Pokemon.
"Hey, at least she'll come back, right?" Decorus inquired rhetorically before smiling at her trainer and nodding, knowing that Gray felt bad about leaving her with the cast of idiots.
"That's true, but it's gonna suck not traveling with you," Fidens opined while shaking his head.
"Well, we had our time, guys," Durus told the others while trying to mask her disdain for Gray's decision. "Comis deserves to go with her, and Gray's getting another chance at becoming a champion. Besides, she can always call us back when she needs us."
"That's right," Gray confirmed while smiling at all of her Pokemon. "Durus, I want you to come with us when we leave, and then I'll send you back here once Comis and I are settled in. Is that alright with you?" Gray asked, making Durus smile before she tried covering it up.
"Yeah, no problem."
"Good. I'm gonna go get my stuff packed, and then I'll start doing some research about Johto."
000
Gray sat at her desk and continued to look at the screen of her desktop, refusing to go to sleep despite the moon being high in the sky. The thought of leaving for Johto and getting to restart her travels was a thrill, to say the least, and the young girl could barely contain her excitement. Her Pokemon, on the other hand, were passed out across the floor, making her giggle quietly.
Comis was the only one that was still awake, and he continued to lay on Gray's bed with his eyes wide open. The thought of getting to go on an adventure just like the others had was a bit intimidating, but he was more than up to the task, especially with Gray leading the way. After all, she was a semifinalist in the Indigo League in only her first year as a trainer, so she'd more than likely end up finishing in an even better spot at the end of the league in Johto.
"The next time everyone sees me, I'm going to be a whole new Pokemon, and I'll help Gray win the league, no matter what!"
So, that's the end of that. Gray's heading off to Johto with Comis and Durus, and Fortis will be headed to Kalos in order to train with Owen, so he could come back even stronger than before. On a side note, Gray's team will be constructed just like this one, and the only member that will share a type with any of her Kanto Pokemon will be Comis, who shares ground typing with Fortis, and flying with Fidens. Going back to the chapter on hand, this is the conclusion of PKA:ANG! so a big thanks goes out to all of those who reviewed, favorited, and/or followed this story. Without you all, I wouldn't be writing, so for the last time in this story, peace out.
