Jacob and Laurent left a little while later. They were planning on heading to the police station to finalize arrangements for exhuming the body and testing the DNA. I was completely alone. Edward had taken the kids over to Esme's this morning because he wanted me to relax. He also insisted that I shouldn't be picking them up right now.
When Edward came home, he brought dinner with him. He didn't want me cooking either. He lit a fire in the fireplace and we sat down in front of it to eat. After we were done eating we just sat there in each other's arms. He told me that the kids were spending the night with Esme because he had to work the next day. After a while he stood up and put a cd in the stereo. The music started and he walked back over to me. He held out his hand and I took it. He pulled me into a standing position and we walked over to an empty part of the floor. We spun around to the music. The song was sung by Edward and it was absolutely beautiful. I just let myself get sucked into the music.
I know it's late but something's on my mind
It couldn't wait, there's never any time
'Cause life slips by without a warning
And I'm tired of ignoring all the space that's between you and I
Let's lock the door behind us,
They won't find us
Make the whole world wait
While we
Dance around this bedroom
Like we've only got tonight
Not about to let you go
Until the morning light.
You can be my whole world
If I can be your satellite.
Let's dance around this bedroom
Like tonight's our only night
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite.
Do you recall how long it must have been
Since any room held only you and me?
And every song that sings about it
Says that we can't live without it
Now I know just what that really means.
Let's lock the door behind us,
They won't find us
Make the whole world wait
While we
Dance around this bedroom
Like we've only got tonight
Not about to let you go
Until the morning light.
You can be my whole world
If I can be your satellite.
Let's dance around this bedroom
Like tonight's our only night
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite.
Dance around the moon,
You and I every night
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite
I can't believe that days took into years
I hate to see the moments disappear
But tonight the sand is stopping
Take the hourglass and drop it
So we can stay
Inside this atmosphere
Dance around the moon,
I'll be your satellite
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite
Dance with me around the moon,
I'll be your satellite
Dance around this room,
I'll be your satellite
Let's dance around this bedroom,
I'll be your satellite
Let's dance around this bedroom,
I'll be your satellite
Let's dance around this bedroom,
I'll be your satellite
Let's dance around this bedroom,
I'll be your satellite
We didn't stop dancing when the music stopped. It felt so good to be in Edward's arms again. Even though we had been back together for six months we weren't us. We were just two complete strangers living together with two kids. I finally felt like I was at home. We twirled around for about another 10 minutes before sitting down on the couch.
"Hey Edward" I decided to approach a sensitive subject that I had been thinking about all day.
"What's up?"
"I want to go back to work on Monday."
He took a deep breath, "You need to rest."
"Edward, I feel great. I feel the best I have in months."
I saw a single tear slip down his cheek, "I can't risk losing you."
"You won't" I pulled him into my arms and held him tightly, "James is gone."
"What if an angry parent or student brings a gun to school? What if a psychopath just randomly picks the school as his target? What about terrorist? What about-" He was panicking.
"Edward!" I cut him off, "It will be okay."
After that we just sat there and held each other for a while.
I spent most of the next day alone. But about an hour before Edward was due to come home Alice showed up. She was carrying a garment bag. Rosalie was with her. When I asked them what they were here for they just dragged me into the bedroom. They tugged and pulled and messed with my hair until it fell in soft waves. They then applied minimal natural makeup. Rose walked into my closet while Alice walked me into the bedroom. Rose came back with a pair of black flats and I was instructed to stand in the middle of the room with my eyes closed. I did as I was told and a few seconds later I felt myself get picked up a little then put back down. I felt something silky get pulled over me and then my arms got put through some holes. Finally there a was a click and I was told to open my eyes.
I was amazed. Rose was standing in front of me holding a full length mirror. My reflection was what surprised me. I was wearing a dark blue silk gown that covered all my scars perfectly. It was fitted just below the waist and hung straight down to the floor. It had a V-neck that gathered behind my neck.
"Wow" That was the only word I could come up with.
I heard the door open. Rose put the flats down in front of me and I quickly slid them on. Alice handed me a small black clutch that she had put my stuff in. Alice kissed me on the cheek and told me to have fun. Rose grabbed my hand, squeezed it gently, and told me to go enjoy myself. I thanked them and rushed down the stairs. Edward was waiting at the bottom of the stairs. He was wearing black slacks and a black jacket with a dark blue button down shirt. He slid a shawl over my shoulders and gently took my hand. He walked me out to the car and we drove off into the night.
He drove to a nice Italian restaurant in town. When we got out of the car I thought I saw Edward tap his pocket to make sure he had something but I brushed that idea off. I couldn't see why he would be checking his pocket for something. When we went in the hostess quickly confirmed our reservation and took us to our table. We were led to a table that overlooked a small creek behind the restaurant. The full moon shining brightly overhead glistened off the water.
"It's beautiful" I whispered.
"Not nearly as beautiful as you." Edward smiled his beautiful crooked smile.
I blushed and looked back out the window. Things were pretty normal after that. We enjoyed salad and then our entrees. Edward insisted that we order desert. I ordered a chocolate mousse cake and he ordered a slice of strawberry cheesecake. Quickly after ordering he excused himself from the table. He came back and a few minutes later our desert arrived. We chatted while eating and then the waitress came with the check. Edward put some money in the folder for the waitress and reached for my hand.
He led me up some stairs to a small balcony overlooking the creek. There was a bottle of champagne chilling in a metal bucket on a table. There were two glasses next to the bucket. The only other thing on the table was a dozen roses. Edward popped the bottle and poured us each a cup of champagne. He didn't pick them up though. Instead he walked us over to the railing.
He took a deep breath and then started to speak, "Bella, the last couple years have been hell." He closed his eyes and shook his head, "You mean the world to me. Without you there is no light or warmth. There is no life. I love you Bella. I love you more than I can express with words." He reached into his pocket and smiled, "Will you please make me the happiest man in the world and marry me-" He smiled a little wider and opened the box in his hand to reveal a ring, "again?"
