A/N: Thank you all for reading and reviewing what I have so far. I really appreciate all the support. This chapter will follow the s6 finale, but be very different as well. Hope you enjoy. =)

"You may have Elena and the Sheriff and everyone else fooled. But not me…"

"Now you need to stop with the witches brew. You're starting to believe your own press."

The memory hit Damon suddenly. A memory that he would give anything to relive again; to have Bonnie yelling at him instead of…

"Where you goin?"

"Away from you."

"I want to say something to you."

"Just leave me alone."

"Thank you. The device in Emily's spell could have killed me. I don't take what you did lightly, so… thank you."

"I did it for Elena."

"I know that, but I'm still very grateful. And…I owe you. Enjoy the parade."

It was like it was happening all over again; like he was standing right in front of her at the Founder's Day Parade. It honestly felt like a lifetime ago.

"I'm sure there are about a billion people we'd both rather be here with right now."

"Not exactly."

Flashes from the past kept branding his skull like he had a movie on fast forward.

"Can you stop trying to be the hero? I know you have a martyr complex, but I need you alive. You make me brave."

"I love you, Damon."

"I love you too, Bonnie."

When the flashes stopped, his eyes finally snapped open. Had they been closed the whole time? He really wasn't aware. There was a moment, just a brief moment, when he didn't recognize where he was. It was almost as if his mind prevented him from distinguishing surroundings that he had grown so accustomed too; surroundings that were embedded in every aspect of his being.

Nothing made sense.

Right now, he couldn't grasp anything. For once in his life, he really couldn't understand. And he couldn't move. It was as if his body had grown so heavily that even his vampire strength couldn't provide a solution. He had always been the one to react violently… to make irrational decisions that wouldn't make any situation better, but right now… right now he couldn't even do that.

And he needed a solution. He needed… he needed to move. Because currently, he was standing in the doorway of his bedroom, staring at Bonnie lying in his bed with her wrists slashed open. Her green eyes were boring into him and implanting into his soul. But, there was nothing there. She wasn't really looking at him. She wasn't seeing him. There was no movement, no heart beat… nothing.

Nothing but a body.

It was as if time had stopped. If he had been human he would have hit the ground for sure; releasing enough bile to probably end his life. And he wondered if that would have been better… if it would have been easier than standing here, staring at her.

When he finally found his feet again to move towards her, his vampire speed surprised him, almost making him lose his balance and knock him on his ass.

"Bonnie…." He shook her; holding her in his arms. "Bonnie!" This time with force, but she didn't budge. But did he really expect her too? "Please…" he was begging now; begging for her to wake up….begging for a damn miracle.

He barely remembered ripping into his wrist and shoving it to her mouth. He watched as the blood seeped in and for a moment it reminded him of being in that motel just outside of New Orleans over a month ago. The only difference was that at that time, Bonnie's heart was beating.

No. No. No! This could not be happening.

He was going to kill Kai. It was already programmed in his mind to do so after the wedding from hell, and the attack that sent him flying out of a window and several feet away from the ceremony. And when he woke up and that useless waste of space told him he had been in contact with Bonnie first, that added fuel to the fire. He just didn't expect to see her like this.

This whole week he had been a stupid idiot. Keeping his distance from her because of what? Because she was right about him still having some sort of feelings toward Elena? Because he was scared that if he admitted it, Bonnie would leave him? And that he didn't listen to the fact that she said it wouldn't change anything and that she would still love him. What the fuck was he really thinking? He loved Bonnie with every fiber of his being. Any small feelings he had for Elena was normal because she was apart of his past…no matter how toxic it was. And it wasn't that long ago that he was professing his love for. Just how like Bonnie was with Jeremy. But, none of that mattered. None of it, because now…

He couldn't even say it out loud. He didn't even want to think it.

He faintly heard voices behind him, but he really couldn't register much. All he could do was stare at her and hold her hand. He noticed the way her eyes were still looking forward, and he should have closed them to prevent the ache and the pain swelling in his chest, but he couldn't. Because if he did… it would all be too real. And he couldn't allow that… he wouldn't.

"Damon…" He faintly heard his name. He knew it was his brother touching his shoulder; trying to make him register what he already knew. "It's been two hours…"

"NO!" He yelled, and for a moment it didn't sound like his voice, but he slammed his brother against the wall all the same. "She is not… dead."

His eyes bulged out when the word escaped his lips, and in the moment of realization, he almost faltered against Stefan.

"Do you want to get married?"

"Are you asking?" He remembered Bonnie saying, as they lay in the grass near the lighthouse in Maine, staring up at the stars.

"No. Don't have a heart attack, Bennett. But I mean, have you ever thought about it?"

"I mean of course I have. Caroline wouldn't have it any other way when we were young. We'd re-enact a wedding we saw on television, and Caroline would always play the bride while me and Elena got stuck as the groom." He could still hear the light laughter in her voice, "But I have thought of it before… just when I'm ready… when it's right."

"So, if I were to ask you to marry me, would you say yes?"

"I think that if it were to happen….where we'd both be ready, and not just on this honeymoon phase high. Then I would…" He remembered her moving to lie on top of him. "Of course I would."

And then he kissed her, because that's what he wanted to hear.

Damon snapped back into reality the moment Stefan was about to put his arms around him to provide comfort. But, he didn't want it. He wanted to go back to that moment in Maine. Hell, he wanted to go back to Montana, and the long hours of driving where they bickered constantly and then stopped on the side of the road where he'd do things to her that would make anyone blush. He just… he wasn't through loving her yet.

He moved from his brother's arms, and sat back in front of Bonnie, grabbing her hand in his. Her fingers were cold. Her whole body had a chill. And he knew, for his sanity, that he needed to close her eyes. He needed courage. But, she wasn't there to give it to him.

As soon as he was about to perform the act, a deep intake of breath escaped Bonnie's lips. It happened so fast he thought he had just imagined it. But, he really didn't have time to be shocked, because she was clinging onto him, trying to breathe. He watched as her eyes turned solid black, and began to search around frantically until they found his. She tried to calm down, but she couldn't. He immediately tore into his wrist again and held the gaping wound to her mouth. She drank his blood greedily.

There was a moment… just a moment, when she stopped drinking and rested back against the head board, that he thought about snapping her neck. Not because he was mad or being vindictive, but if he took that route, he wouldn't have to worry about this happening again.

"Damon…" Her eyes were back to normal, as she tried to steady her breathing. He didn't know how or what the hell just occurred, but he put his arms around her tightly; afraid to let go. He barely heard Stefan inform them that he was going to go downstairs and tell the others.

Bonnie was alive. She was alive and she was here with him. And damnit, he didn't care that the tears were falling from his eyes.

Bonne was trying her best to relax as she sat in Damon's bath tub letting the warm water ease her muscles. She knew she was probably going to turn into a prune because she had been in here for a while now; warming the water with just a touch of her fingertips every time it started to give her a chill.

To say her mind was all over the place was an understatement. Everything that happened in the last several hours was playing on a constant repeat that was just too much to grasp. She could have died today. Not that it was really anything new, because when had she not been knocking on death's door? It was just that something was different about this time. Kai caught her off guard, and if she hadn't done damage control while she was sliding into an unconscious state, he would have succeeded in killing her. Just like that. And if it would have happened a few weeks ago, when her powers weren't up to par, she would have succumbed to death. Hell, she took a big leap of faith doing everything she had done, because she wasn't a hundred percent sure that her plan would work. She couldn't even explain how she saved herself to Damon and everyone else without seeming like she had a stuttering problem.

When Kai came out of nowhere and attempted to choke the life out of her, before everything went dark, she was able to succeed in stopping her own heart. She knew the moment he sliced open her wrists to take her blood, and began siphoning her magic. She was just glad that she was able to block her powers and get inside his mind, making him believe that he took it all. The fact that she was able to do all of that in such a short amount of time surprised the hell out of her. And then the fact that she was able to bring herself back from death shocked her even more beyond belief. If it weren't for Damon giving her his blood, she may have not of had the strength to wake up at all. She just made sure she left that tiny bit of information out of her explanation though.

She was alive now, and she was grateful for it, but there were some people who weren't. There were people who died today. Kai had ruined Alaric and Jo's wedding; killing their unborn twins. He had also succeeded in killing his entire family. Then there was Tyler who triggered his werewolf curse, and they had no idea where he was. And it also happened to be a full moon. Wasn't that just great.

Before Stefan, Caroline, and Elena got away, Kai informed them that he was now a Heretic. Bonnie was just as confused as they were when they explained it. A witch, who could siphon like Kai, turned into a vampire. Because a vampire was made from magic, they were able to draw off said magic and become an ultimate killing machine. Bonnie of course called Lucy, because her cousin knew just about everything. It was safe to say that even though she had been aware, she was shocked that it wasn't just a rumor. The six witches that had turned Heretic were from the Gemini coven, but were trapped in a prison world in the early 1900's. Bonnie really couldn't hear about a possibility of another prison world. She just prayed they never got out. Then again, she knew a bit about how Kai worked. She knew that he was the type that wanted a posse. An army. He was just as powerful as she was, and now with the added vampirism, there was not a doubt in her mind that he planned to unleash hell on earth.

And even with all of that going on, Bonnie had one more reason to worry. She had watched Matt die today. His neck had snapped and he had fell to his death right in front of her eyes. Yet, his body wasn't lying in front of the boardinghouse like it had been before she was attacked. She hoped she had imagined it… that maybe she had dreamed it up in her state of unconsciousness, but when she tried calling him, and attempted to do a locator spell, she got nothing. His truck was still out front, but he wasn't. And as much as she wanted to find Kai for what he had done, and kill him slowly, Damon all but stuck her ass in the bath tub, commanding her to rest, and that they would figure out everything tomorrow.

So, now she was resting… well, trying too. Her powers were unconsciously making the candles and lights flicker on and off, but she really couldn't help it. Bonnie may have been powerful, she may have been getting better with her magic, but Kai was very powerful too. And now he was a vampire. How the hell was she supposed to really relax? Especially knowing that they were all on death's doornail and that Matt was probably very well dead.

Thirty minutes later, she was placing a robe around her body, and walking back into Damon's bedroom. It startled her a little, seeing him sitting in the dark in a chair across from his bed. He was staring at the spot she had lied on for two hours.

Bonnie stood between his legs, staring at him until his eyes finally rested on hers. She saw the tears, and it nearly broke her heart. She shivered a little when he grabbed her hands and placed them to his lips.

Before she could say anything, his voice filled the room; a voice that sound so shattered and barely there.

"You almost died today."

He didn't say anything else. But, he didn't need too. He didn't need to say that he wanted to snap her neck after she consumed his blood. He didn't need to say that he'd rather her be a vampire or a witchpire or whatever term he constructed for it. He didn't need to say that he never got scared, but that he was scared to death of losing her. He didn't need to say anything else, because she already knew.

"I almost died today." Her voice was barely a whisper as she cupped his face in her hands and rested her forehead against his.

Sometimes a lot of words didn't need to be said. Sometimes just the simplicity of silence said it all.

He then lifted her up and placed her on his lap, causing her to straddle his thighs. Her robe came off next, and then his shirt. When his tongue danced around her breasts, teasing and probing her nipples, her head fell back on a shuddered moan.

This was wrong right? They were in the middle of a crisis. People were literally dying left and right, and all she could do was seek a safe haven under his touch. She didn't remember him removing his pants, but she was fully aware of him positioning her slowly on his length. The pleasure overtook them immediately.

Damon's arms wrapped around her waist and held onto her for dear life, as she slowly moved up and down. The intimacy from this; the way they never lost eye contact because they were afraid to look away, it was everything. This was something that they could never experience with anyone else; that they would never want too.

The first time she came, she moaned against his mouth, gripping onto his shoulders as if her life depended on it. At that moment, he began to thrust inside of her a little harder, a little faster. His hands were sliding all over her backside, and then he gripped her ass… her waist. He moved her against him so hard, she was glad she put a silence spell around the room, because she wasn't able to stifle her moans. And when she closed her eyes, he made her open them. He wanted her eyes branded on him… branded on what he was doing to her… what she was doing to him. The tears were back in both of their eyes, but they didn't stop… they wouldn't.

And when she felt him come inside of her, she came for the third time. And they stayed that way for a while, just breathing and staring at one another. When she was about to stand up, he held her still, and she could feel him hardening back up inside of her.

He wanted more and so did she.

Damon laid her down on his bed, and continued moving inside of her slowly. Their eyes never left each other as they remained that way for the rest of the night.

They were both scared of what tomorrow would bring.

Bonnie woke up around five in the morning. Damon was sound asleep beside her, and it took the jaws of life to get up without waking him. Initially, she would have taken a shower to clean herself from the after effects of their lovemaking, but instead, she slid on her robe and went downstairs. She was starving. So much had happened that she forgot to eat, and now that her appetite was back, she needed nourishment.

She couldn't say she was fully surprised to see Elena sitting at the kitchen counter, eating a bowl of cereal when she walked in. Between her and Caroline, it was Elena who got up early when they had sleepovers. It was Elena who snuck down in the wee hours of the night or the early mornings to get something to eat.

They stared at each other for a moment in silence, before Elena provided a small smile and held out the box of cereal towards her.

Bonnie grabbed a bowl, a spoon, and the milk, and sat across from her.

"Bonnie…" Her voice was soft, and Bonnie looked at her. "I'm really glad you're okay."

There were tears in both of their eyes, and Bonnie didn't think that she would want to cry just by a few little words. But they both knew that this fight they were in had been going on for too long, and it was time to bury the hatchet.

"I'm sorry for the things I said to you…how I acted towards you. I blamed you for everything, yet I didn't treat Damon the same way, and it was wrong. All of it was wrong. You have been my best friend… my sister since we were in diapers, and I should have never…"

"I'm sorry too." Bonnie said, twirling her spoon in the cereal. "I didn't plan for Damon and I. We were honestly just friends, and then things happened. And I know you're hurt and you feel betrayed, but I never meant for any of it to happen. Because I love you… but I love him too."

Elena wiped her tears. "You two died. You died and you were gone for months, and you two became friends, and it hurts…it really does, and I don't know when it's not going to hurt, but honestly, I wouldn't want you or Damon with anyone else. Maybe somewhere between everything that's happened in our lives, I saw it coming… I just didn't want to believe it."

She then felt Elena's hand intertwine with hers across from the table.

"We talked the other day." Bonnie was aware, but didn't say anything. "It was nothing but big apologies all around. And the way he talked about you… the love he feels for you. I realized that what Damon and I had doesn't compare to what you two have. A blind man could see how much he really loves you. And I just… one day I hope someone talks about me like the way he talked about you."

Bonnie wiped her tear, walked around the counter, and pulled Elena into a hug. This wasn't easy for her friend, and she honestly felt bad about everything, but she was glad that they could come to this point.

"I miss you, Elena. And I still love you. I know that we may never be like we were, and I don't expect it, but I still…"

"Want us to be friends." She continued for her. "I want nothing more than that."

After the tears were wiped and the silly laughter subsided, Elena added, "I was thinking after this thing with Kai, that I'm going to take Alaric on a trip, just the two of us. He's sad, summer's coming up, and I think we both just need to get out of Mystic Falls for a while. I think we need an opportunity to get our lives in order and start over."

"That actually sounds like a good idea." Bonnie smiled.

"If we don't die first."

Bonnie smiled and took a bite of her cereal. "Hey, if we do, we could just live it up in whatever afterlife we get sucked into."

"Ooh, maybe we'll get stuck with endless supplies of Brad Pitts in his Legends of the fall days."

"That would actually be worth it." Bonnie laughed.

Yeah, hopefully they didn't die.

Evening came faster than anyone would have liked. Bonnie, Caroline, Damon, Stefan, Tyler, and Elena were researching and figuring out a plan of what they should do to take out Kai, and yet no one could come to an agreement. Caroline wanted to go in with fangs blazing, to catch Kai off guard, rip into his flesh and make him suffer. And of course she had every right to want to do that because of her mother.

Stefan and surprisingly Damon were the voice of reason. More so Damon, because he didn't want anything else to happen to Bonnie.

With that being said, Bonnie had been silent for a while, searching through her grimoires, trying to figure out a plan to end Kai's life. She wanted to throw him off guard and bring the fight to him, because when her spell she put up around the house wore off, it was no telling when he would pop up. And knowing Kai, he would make her watch while he killed her friends and take her powers.

She was so stressed about all of this that her magic caused her to take out a few bulbs and make the fire in the fire place ignite.

"Sorry." She smiled sheepishly, and then got back to reading, trying to stay focused. Damon's hand rested on her thigh. Just him being near her, provided the amount of strength and security she needed.

"I'll be back," Elena said through the commotion, and walked towards the kitchen. "I'll get some more bulbs."

"Hey guys, the full moon is about to appear." Tyler jumped up. "I need to get out of here."

"We can lock you up in the basement." Caroline stated.

"I don't think the chains down there will hold me for long."

Bonnie stood up. "I'll help you. I know a spell."

"Or we could send him outside and hopefully someone will run him over." Damon stood up as well, putting his hands gently on Bonnie's shoulders.

Everyone just rolled their eyes and Bonnie gave him a look. She knew that ever since she revealed to him what she and Tyler did ages ago, Damon didn't want the wolf anywhere near her. But, there wasn't any time for the male testosterone claws to come out.

She then placed a light kiss on Damon's lips. "I'll be right back."

Bonnie and Tyler made their way downstairs, as she helped him with the chains.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"I should be asking you that. With what happened with Liv… what you had to do, I'm sorry. And now…"

"It's our lives right?" He shrugged.

As soon as the chains were tied, she cupped his face, looked in his eyes, and recited a spell.

"So, that will make me stay in here."

"No. That was to make the transition as painless as possible. And this…." She touched on the chains and recited another spell. "Is so you won't get out."

"Thank you, Bonnie."

She smiled. And then walked out, spelling the room just in case.

Bonnie's plans were to go back upstairs, but something happened. Something slammed its way into her skull… freezing her until she saw nothing.

When Bonnie's eyes focused back on reality, she was standing in front of Kai in some broken down warehouse.

"Nice of you to join me, Bonbear. Mind if I call you Bonbear? Everyone has all these nicknames for you, so I wanted to get in on the action." His sinister laugh was nothing short of annoying. "You know I didn't think the summoning spell would work, but because I not only have my merged powers, and some of yours, thanks for that by the way, I'm also a bit of a Heretic. So, here you are. How awesome is that?" He chuckled again. "You like this warehouse? I'm thinking of turning it into my home. Your blood on the walls would prevent me from needing a decorator."

He used his vampire speed to stand in front of her fast, but Bonnie didn't jump. She was disoriented from having her brain being screwed with, but she wouldn't show him fear. She was better than that.

"I'm going to take such pleasure in killing you, Bonnie." His hands caressed her face, but she quickly moved from his touch. "But first, while you're bleeding out slowly… while you feel everything I do to bring you closer to death… while you beg me to take your life, I'll be killing your friends. Right in front of you. And don't worry; I'll make sure you don't come back this time."

His hand touched her face again, and instead of moving it away, it stayed still. Bonnie knew his hand felt like it was burning from the inside out, and the discontentment on his face made her smirk.

"You know Kai? You talk way too much."

And then with a shove of her hand to his chest, he went flying back smashing through several walls.

She was ready.

"Where the hell is she?!" Damon yelled, after seeing a transitioning Tyler, yelling in chains. He didn't care that his bones were breaking through his skin.

He was going to rip Bonnie into shreds if she decided to take Kai on alone. They were a team now, and if she went in by herself….he was going to kill her.

"Elena's missing too." Caroline rushed back into the living room just as he had. "What if Kai got in somehow….what if…?"

"We'll find them." Stefan had to be the voice of reason.

Damon throwing everything in his way, made Stefan use his vampire speed and strength to hold him against the wall. "We'll find her, Damon. Bonnie will not die today."

The blow to Bonnie's face from Kai's magic took her flying back, but she was able to stop just before her body slammed into a wall; a wall that would have probably punctured her lungs and killed her if she hit it with that amount of force.

Her feet stayed above the ground as she moved back towards Kai, letting the electricity flow through her hands and into his body. It made him scream and knocked him to his ass, as he writhed in pain.

"You think you can beat me!" he yelled, using a spell to counteract her attack. "You had your chance to work alongside of me!" He held out his hands, applying shallow cuts all over her body. Bonnie screamed and lost control on her levitation and fell to the ground. "To be mine. But you chose differently! And you will not beat me, Bonnie! Don't you see?"

She stood back to her feet, knowing it was her magic that gave her that extra oomph to do so, and then she summoned a fireball out of her fingertips.

"Ooh, black eyes." A sly grin appeared to his face. "You're turning me on." And as she threw it, he disappeared, and ended up right behind her, wrapping his hand forcefully around her neck, and then slamming her against the wall. "But watch me as I mirror you."

His eyes turned pitch black as well, and then a flash of light bombarded her mind.

She could see all of her friends. They were laughing. They were having the time of their lives. She saw Damon and Elena getting married and consummating that marriage. She saw her tombstone.

Everyone forgot her… everyone moved on without her.

When the images subsided, she kept her eyes closed, knowing that Kai was just trying to get to her.

"And what now, Bons? You're friends aren't here. They've never been here for you and they're never going to be. You will always be alone. And you'll die alone. What more do you have?"

Opening her eyes quickly, she brought her hands to the side of his head, using her strength and her magic to overtake his pressure points. She ignored his incisors trying to bite into her flesh.

"Me."

And then they were thrown apart from each other with so much force, they both succeeded in making parts of the warehouse collapse.

Bonnie's eyes were a bit blurry as she tried to regain focus. It took her longer than she liked to sit up, thanks to the sharp piece of wood sticking out of her abdomen. Pulling it out was a hard task, and she tried to ignore the blood that was escaping her lips. The head rush hit her instantly, and it felt like she was moving but staying still all at once. She tried healing herself… repairing the internal injuries that had taken place, but as powerful as she might have been, she still had a long ways to go. So, she wasn't able to fully heal herself yet.

When she heard her name being called a few time, she thought she was just imaging the sound of her best friend's voice. But, when she finally looked forward, she saw Elena standing a few feet away from her, in Kai's hold.

"I heard the taste of doppelganger was the best thing to have in your mouth." He put his finger up to the wound on Elena's forehead and licked off some of the blood. "Next to a witch of course. Bonnie your blood helped me with my transition. So, another thing to thank you for."

Bonnie struggled to stand up.

"Let her go."

"B-bonnie g-get out of h-here." Elena said, wincing in Kai's hold.

Bonnie gripped her waist, ignoring the blood on her fingertips, as she began to walk towards them.

"Come any closer, witch, and she'll drop dead to the ground."

That made her stop, and just as she was about to do a spell to separate them, someone sped up out of nowhere, pushed Kai several feet away, and picked Elena up.

It was Matt.

Through this whole night, this was the first time a small smile formed to Bonnie's lips and wave of relief flooded through her body. Matt was alive. And apparently a vampire.

When the ground began to shake like an earth quake was happening, Bonnie told Matt to get out, because this warehouse was coming down.

And they all didn't need to die.

Kai floated above her, and looked down on her like she was trash. Even though he was able to heal himself from his wounds, the blood that covered him made him look like Carrie at the prom.

Bonnie held out her hand and a wave of energy flowed right through him. But, all it did was knock him back a few feet. Her eyes widened. What the hell was going on?

"You know, now that I think about it, it would be much better for him to watch you die. I mean that's what fucks you up, isn't it Damon?"

Bonnie's attention focused behind Kai, and saw that Damon, Stefan, and Caroline were standing a few feet behind him. They were banging on some type of invisible barrier.

"Oh and Caroline," Kai said, facing them. "Your mother… never even had a chance. Her bones felt amazing breaking against my hands."

Caroline turned on her vamp face, and as she charged the barrier, her and Stefan's neck snapped, causing them to fall to the ground.

Damon banged on the barrier, and Bonnie hesitated before connecting with his eyes. To see the pain and the worry cloud his features… to see all of that rage in him that he couldn't do anything. That he couldn't get to her. It was devastating. It was heartbreaking.

Damon, I'll be okay. She got into his mind. It almost took everything out of her to perform that action.

Bonnie….No…

Kai held her up, and the blood was escaping her mouth again. She closed her eyes. She drifted out all the noise… the movement. She almost felt like she did when she was training herself; when she was becoming one with nature. And then she braced herself for what came next.

Kai slammed his fist right through her chest cavity.

It should have killed her. Even if he didn't pull out her heart, the impact should have killed her. Her soul should be leaving her body, without any chance of internal repairs. But it didn't. Instead, her eyes opened, black as the night sky, and the veins appeared all along her skin. She held tightly onto Kai's hands, cutting off circulation if he had been human.

"What the…?"

"Kai… you really think I wouldn't have had a plan B… or a plan C or D…"

Dark magic was no longer dormant inside of her. The expression was wrapping around her cells, wanting to come out and play…urging for a good kill. Kai was trying to take her magic… trying to siphon it from her heart, but not only did it not work, it was fucking with his magic… draining everything he had.

The hand that gripped her heart detached from his arm and fell to the ground. He howled out, and she put her hands through his body, filling him with immense amount of pain, and taking from him… taking his source of power.

"You feel that?" Her voice was a little deeper for her own ears. "That's your vampire essence leaving your body. Hurts doesn't it?" She then continued. "And that's your power…. all of your magic…."

She didn't even need to recite a spell for what happened next. She internally lit him on fire, and when his eyes rolled to the back of his head, the whole warehouse exploded.

Bonnie woke up with a deep intake of breath. Feeling weak wasn't really the term that described her. Dying actually seemed easier than how she was feeling right now.

Standing to her feet, she tried to brace herself from falling over. The pain that engulfed her at every step, made her stop and look down. Her chest was still open and she could see her beating heart. How the hell was she still alive? She tried to heal herself, but it wasn't working. She was literally tapped out right now.

As she began to limp away from all the debris, in hopes of finding Damon alive, a charred hand grabbed her ankle. She swiftly moved it, and looked down to see Kai with barely any skin covering him. She could even see his heart slowly beating. Maybe it was a powerful witch thing? Being able to physically see your own heart beat inside your open chest and still be alive. This was just too absurd for words.

"Just like you…" He struggled to say. "I had plan b…"

She knelt down, well, more like fell down.

"If I die…" He coughed up the blood that wasn't escaping every other part of his singed body. "So does Elena… and it will be yourfault…"

Wait….what? No!

He attempted to sprout out a small amount of laughter. "You c-could save me though… and Elena will live.…"

Before Bonnie could even think about what to do, Kai's heart was forcefully removed from his body and his head was swiped clean off.

Bonnie's eyes widened as she stared up at Damon. She knew he had heard everything that Kai just said, but that didn't stop him from signing Elena's death certificate. And her eyes never left his, as she disposed of Kai's body; turning it into ash.

When she began to feel dizzy and like she would pass out, Damon was at her side in an instant, shoving his blood down her throat and then he picked her up and carried her bridal style away from the wreckage.

She was beautiful. Her best friend was beautiful… even in death. Well, a death like state. It had been a little over a month after the battle with Kai, and yet Bonnie still didn't feel like it had been a victory. There was a moment after he died that she thought he was lying about being connected with Elena. But, Matt called as soon as they stepped away from all of the carnage, and informed them that Elena passed out in his arms. He tried to feed her blood, but it didn't work. And both Bonnie and Damon knew it wouldn't.

It took Bonnie two days to figure out a spell to save Elena. But, not in the way that she would have liked. Not in the way that would keep her friend alive and walking around. The spell she performed would keep her friend in a comatose state for no more than sixty years. Thanks to Elena being supernatural because of her doppelganger genes, and the cure being inside of her, it was the only loophole Bonnie was able to find. It wasn't really what she wanted, but it would have to do for now.

And now, as Bonnie stood standing in front of Elena's body as she lied in a coffin, spelled in a tomb for her protection, she watched as her best friend slept peacefully. She was a real life sleeping beauty. Go figure that was her favorite fairytale. Even though they were all able to get inside of her mind and say goodbye, no, see you later, the day Bonnie did the spell, she couldn't help but let a few tears escape her eyes. None of it was fair. And she felt guilty as ever on how it all worked out. What if she was never able to break Elena out of her sleep? What if everyone found out that she could have been saved?

Taking a deep breath, she tried not to let herself worry. Kai was dead. Elena was safe. They were all safe, and there would be no hell on earth. She had to keep reminding herself that.

Bonnie then caressed Elena's cheek and kissed her forehead. "You rest. I'll figure something out."

Closing the tomb, and adding one more protection spell just in case, Bonnie made her way back towards the vehicle.

She was headed off to start a three month journey with Lucy, to help her understand her magic. Lucy had all this knowledge that she so desperately needed, and she was going to help Bonnie control her magic, control herself, and figure out what could have been done differently with Kai without over exerting herself. Her body was going through so many different changes, and even though she was grateful that she wasn't dead, she still witnessed her own heart beating inside of her chest, without falling to her death. There had to be something else going on there. So, she was ready to figure it all out.

As she got in the passenger seat of the rented van, Damon's fingers intertwined with hers. She looked at him and they smiled at one another. The secret they shared would stay among them. It was better that way.

"How long is this going to take?" Caroline asked in the back seat, as she rested her feet on Stefan's lap.

She watched as Damon rolled his eyes. "A few days to get there Blondie. You know this was only supposed to be a trip for me and Bonnie. Not you, my brooding brother, and the newbie vamp in the back."

"Actually it was supposed to be just a trip for me." Bonnie corrected. "I had to practically beg Lucy to allow you all to come."

"Well, I was going to show up anyways." Damon kissed her fingers. "You know how lonely I get." And then he kissed her lips, nipping at them a little, which made her swoon.

"Can you guys keep that to a bare minimum?" Matt groaned from the very back seat, sipping from a water bottle full of blood.

"You definitely could have stayed here." Damon started up the car. "Don't you have some police boy training you need to get out of your system."

Matt gave him the finger.

This was definitely going to be an interesting trip, Bonnie thought as she stared back at the crypt one more time, before they drove off.

A/N: Thank you all so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed. There will probably be 2 more chapters before the s7 premiere. I don't want to venture off too much from the show, but I do want to give you all a taste of what the gang will be doing on their road trip. We'll get to see Bonnie working a lot with Lucy, and I'm also thinking of them making a pit stop to New Orleans. Oh & vampire Matt will be fun to write. Also there will be some guilt from Bonnie & Damon on Elena's 'sleeping death'.

As for the way I changed things up from the show's season finale, I really wanted more of a battle with Bonnie and Kai, so I hope I left you all satisfied. As for Elena being tied to Bonnie in the show, I didn't want that in my story. Though I loved the fact that Damon chose Bonnie on the show over Elena, in here, Damon chose to kill Kai, killing Elena, not really thinking that Bonnie could add in a loophole. Hopefully that makes sense? So, yes, Bonnie does want to bring Elena back, but it's not going to be the forefront on her mind as the chapter's progress, and you never know what could happen that could prevent her from doing so.

So, thanks again for reading & please review =)
