Alright guys!
Time for a public explanation, since I've gotten one to many PMs about this. You guys deserve to know the truth.
I am... probably not going to finish The Upgrade.
I know, I know! I left so many of you hanging for the past 3 1/2 years with the hope that I would, in fact, post something more. But as it stands, I just do not see that happening.
Those of you who found my tumblr noticed that I've threatened a rewrite at some point. And honestly, maaaaybe? But it probably wouldn't look anything like the original story. It would probably be more of a slow burn type fanfic. Lots of thinking on Ralph's part. Probably make Vanellope a little more aggressive, less naive. I dunno. The plot point of whether or not Ralph being in love with teenager Vanellope makes him a pedo might be a little stronger. Anyway, I don't know how much interest I would have in doing it now.
I tried a couple of things to keep my interest going in this story. I tried looking at the story from a different perspective, and I tried starting a new Wreck-it Ralph story to keep my interest in it alive, but I just couldn't keep it up.
I suspect I will post SOMETHING when the Wreck-it Ralph sequel comes out. But who knows what it will be. I'll try to keep it to oneshots though, to prevent something like this happening again.
I LOVE that people loved this fanfic. Nothing I've ever written has gotten quite as much feedback, and while I was writing it I absolutely loved writing it. I guess I sort of strung out the idea that I would keep it up because I didn't want to admit that I wasn't going to get that back.
For those who are curious about what was going to happen in the story after the last chapter... I really didn't have a lot planned out.
All the accusation towards Ralph were going to come to a head, and I was planning some big crowd scene where Vanellope confronts everybody about it by stripping out of her clothes and shouting "Does THIS look like the body of a child to you?!" And Ralph being absolutely mortified and stuff. I dunno. I thought it was funny but I don't know how well it would fit with the feel of the story as it is now.
After that I didn't really have any plans.
The problem with the story is that there is no definite ending. I was trying to keep it deliberately sort of PG-13ish, so 'sex ever after' wouldn't fit. And marriage for these two would be too far away.
I guess, maybe Fix-it Felix getting unplugged and Ralph having to move in with Vanellope? But that's a beginning to a story in and of itself.
So... there you have it. I have owned up to it. There will be no more of "The Upgrade" at this time. I am very sorry to disappoint. I mean, every other day I get alerts that someone else has followed the story.
