2nd year of middle school
Chiyaki sat at her desk, looking out at the dull, grey sky. The weather matched her mood perfectly. Her mum had forced her to dye her dark red hair to a more sensible black colour, and she had it chopped into an unflattering bob, with a fringe. She sighed as the fiddled with the short bits of hair that tickled her nose, she hated it so much and just wanted to go home already, but her car hadn't arrived yet, everyone else had already pissed off home.
"oh, hey Chi!"
The familiar voice sent tingles up her spine, Ian.
"Hey dude" Chiyaki said, springing from her seat, she mentally kicked herself stop calling your boyfriend DUDE!
Ian chuckled at her obvious distress, he never really minded that she called him dude, or that she didn't really know how to strike up a conversation with him, and that when they did talk she had a tendency to ramble, he liked those things, he even liked her new haircut, which she had been pissed about all week.
Ian had black hair also, but it was a buzzcut because he did baseball, he had the most fascinating eyes that Chiyaki had ever seen in her life. They looked greenish normally, but when they hit the light, they turned a strange lime colour, and had a band of hazel around the iris, they were so captivating to Chiyaki, it was one of the reasons she adored him so much, he didn't realise how only his eyes affected her.
"I wanted to talk to you about something" Ian said, ducking his head all of a sudden, the atmosphere turned heavy suddenly, he had something bad to say.
"s..sure. shoot." Chiyaki whispered, she had a feeling she knew what it was about
"you never told me, about, you know, your family and stuff. And I respected that and all but... well." Ian began, his confidence had withered, this was obviously a touchy subject. but he knew this was the right thing to do. "I don't think we should be together anymore, Chiyaki."
Chiyaki's eyes widened, she swore that her heart stopped for a second. Her breath hitched. She had no idea what to say to that.
"look Chi, I can't do this, you're family is such a big deal and I'm just a nobody" Ian said gently, taking a step towards her, but she looked away from him, she felt herself shaking, trying her best to hold in the tears, but she was failing, "you were somebody to me." she muttered. She had had enough of this. It had all gone too fast, this was unfair. She hated this. She hated this so much.
"Chi"
"Leave me alone!" Chiyaki erupted, not even bothering to look at Ian, not noticing that he had completely crumbled, he was crushed, she knew that, but she didn't care, his fear was the reason this had happened.
She heard the familiar beeping of her car's horn outside. She ran out the classroom, and down the hall, out the gate, not bothering to answer Ian's frantic calling of her name.
She practically leapt into her car, panting desperately, she wiped her tears, her eyes and cheeks felt scratchy and sore, her mother looked at her worriedly "sweety, is everything ok? what's happened?" her mum asked, putting a hand on her shoulder, "are people commenting on your haircut?"
Chiyaki ignored her mother's questions, instead she took this time to collect her thoughts. The only good thing about that school had been Ian, the only good thing had turned his back on her. She wasn't sad. She was angry, she was furious. And she knew, that people would be the same at any public school she went. She took a deep breath, turned to her mother and said:
"You still have that info booklet on Lobelia, right?"
Short wee chapter, I'm currently drawing Chiyaki, she is doing ok I reckon. I gave her a different hairstyle in this chappie because she was a different kind of person back then so I was like "yeaaaaah hair symblism" and all that jazz.
