John woke up from a feverish sleep at around one in the afternoon to his father, shaking him gently. He didn't realize he'd slept that long. "Yeah, dad?" he looked up at the man, who seemed pretty worried. It was more likely for John to be up at the crack of dawn than halfway through the day. "I'm thinking about going out with my new co-workers tonight, if that's alright with you? If you're not feeling well, I'll stay-"
"Dad, I'm okay. You go out and have fun, don't get wasted." John joked, his dad cracking a small grin. "Alright. I'm going to leave dinner for you in the fridge, if you want to go out, call me on the home phone first." he said with a nod. "Don't stay out too late if you do." John nodded, leaning up and giving his father a hug. "I won't, dad." He probably wouldn't do much today, he'd had a pretty fitful sleep, for whatever reason.
He sat around with his dad until he left around four, hearing his window open just as the door closed. "Dave?" he started toward his bedroom, opening the door and smiling when he spotted the freckled blond.
"I'm not late, am I?" he asked, panting softly. "Nah." John looked up and realized it had been raining. "Why do you even come in through the fire escape anymore? I'm not grounded." John asked, wrinking his nose. "I know dude, but something about it feels more adventurous." he snorted, slipping off his shoes and looking over at John. "You have a towel?" he was soaking wet; it really must be pouring out there. "Yeah. I think we're the same size, let me get you a dry pair of clothes too, Mr. Adventure."
Dave shook his head. "Just a towel's fine. It's only my shirt that's wet, and that's an easy fix." he said, slipping off his t-shirt. John quickly turned, going into his bathroom and coming back with a fluffy towel, keeping his eyes on his face.
"You gettin' seduced, Egbert?" he teased, getting a punch to the shoulder. "Sure, Strider." he muttered, watching him as he dried his hair. God, he hadn't really taken the time to look at him. Just the general shape of his body was appealing, mesmerizing, even. He wasn't all that toned, to be honest, in fact, Dave was more on the scrawny side than anything. Never had John considered that he'd be a little more beefy than Cool Guy over here.
John had zoned out, only to be brought back to his senses by Dave moving over to him and leaning in close, pressing his hands onto the bed on either side of his lap, their faces so close they were almost kissing. "See something you like?" shit, he'd been caught staring. "Ugh. You're such a perv." he muttered, leaning back. "A bit of a narcissist too." he teased, smirking. Dave gave an indignant huff, pulling away and sitting on the bed. "Am not."
"Are too."
"Am not!"
"You arrrrre!"
Dave groaned, flopping back on the bed. "I'm the hotter one." John glared at that. "Bullcrap! I'm hotter than the freaking sun on a BAD day!" Dave sat up, grinning with a challenge in his eyes. "Lies and slander. Prove it." John wasn't even thinking when he pulled off his shirt, his lean muscles still quite prominent. "Fight me Strider." he joked, Dave blinking in surprise. "Damn son."
John paused, growing flustered and slipping on his shirt again. "Perv." he muttered, going out to the kitchen. "You hungry?" he asked, glancing over his shoulder. "Kinda, sure." he got up and followed the dark-haired male out. "Good. I think dad made pasta for dinner. He's out with some guys from work and with how he put it, probably won't be back until morning." he explained, a laugh leaving the other boy. "Then I guess I'm gonna stay and keep you company. I don't want you home alone."
John was about to protest, but hell, he knew Dave wouldn't listen. "Okay. That's fine, I guess. I don't think he'd mind much." he said quietly, with a nod. "Rad. So after we eat, what do you want to do?" Dave asked, leaning against the counter. "I dunno. Probably just sit around and talk like I normally do when I have other people over."
"Boring."
"Then what do you suggest?"
Dave shrugged. "I don't know. Let's take turns asking each other questions. You know like those dumb question games all over tumblr and facebook?" John nodded, shrugging. "Sounds good. I'm cool with it."
The two ate dinner with each other happily, chatting about stupid, silly little things before cleaning up, grabbing some pop and using Dave's phone, sitting on the couch in the living room. "Alright. I found a question set."
"Alright, then you go first."
"Sounds good to me."
Dave scrolled through the questions, glancing up. "Do you like dogs or cats better?" John thought about it for a moment, shrugging. "I guess cats. Dogs are pretty great, and love you a lot more, but cats are quieter and generally more chill." Dave nodded. He'd take that, handing his phone to John so he could pick one, finding a question of his own. "Have you had your first kiss?" Dave shook his head. "Nah, to be honest. Just never had the occasion. What about you?"
"Is that your question?"
"No. I'm just curious."
"No. I haven't."
"...Do you want to?"
John paused, blinking from behind his glasses in surprise. "What?" he wasn't sure he heard him right. "Do you want to have your first kiss?" Dave repeated himself, feeling a blush of his own grow on his cheeks. "Why?" the blue-eyed teen glanced down, wondering why now, of all times. "I dunno, just so we can say we have? Also, I don't know, I guess I'm curious as to what it feels like." Dave said with a subtle shrug. "...I don't see why not." John murmured. "This won't make our friendship awkward or anything, right? You won't tell anyone?" Dave shook his head. "Of course not. Consider it a favor, and what happens in this room, stays in this room." he promised, moving over to him.
John felt his heart pounding as Dave moved over a little closer, leaning in and blushing deeply. He didn't look particularly anywhere but Dave's eyes, but he was certain Dave was just as flustered. Without warning, Dave pressed his lips against John's, kissing him awkwardly and without certainty. John regained his senses, kissing back.
The kiss was as awkward as it got at first, both of them trying to figure out what to do, but eventually, Dave got a little closer, straddling John's lap. John closed his eyes, feeling Dave's hands rest on his shoulders, how own hands moving to Dave's lower back. The longer it went on, the more heated it got, John hardly realized that his hands had moved to grab at Dave's ass until the other made a startled squawking noise and broke the kiss. "John!"
Quickly he moved his hands away, covering his face. "I'm sorry!" both boys panted heavily, John shaking his head frantically. Dave watched him, and couldn't help the smile that came to his face. "It's alright dude... You were... pretty good for your first time. I think." John moved his hands from his face, nodding slowly. "You were too." He murumured, glancing away. "Maybe we should use each other to practice, for when he have like, an official kiss going on, like with relationships and stuff." John tilted his head.
"Are you sure that's alright?"
"We're friends, why wouldn't it be? It's not like it's sex, right?"
Dave had a point. It was just kissing. What was the harm in kissing? He nodded, smiling. "I guess you're right, dude. That's a pretty good idea. We'll be the best kissers in Texas." He laughed, Dave nodding with a cheeky grin and sitting back. "Right?"
"So uh, it's your turn."
"Oh, yeah, Thanks for reminding me, dude."
"Yep."
"Coke or Pepsi?"
"Both, oh my god."
Both sat there late into the night, talking and asking questions, and having a good time. John didn't remember the last time he'd had so much fun at home, and was sad when they both reluctantly headed to John's room. "You want to stay the night?" John asked, not wanting the blond to leave. "I could ask." he took out his phone again, going into the next room to talk to Bro. It didn't take long for him to come out, nodding and smiling. "He's cool with-" John was already asleep, somehow, in the five minutes he'd been gone, John had passed out on his bed.
"...Nerd." he snorted, gently pushing him to the other side of the bed, climbing in with him, and closing his eyes, opening them again and glancing over at John. He was so close, so warm.
Dave leaned in, pressing a tender, gentle kiss to his lips and slipped the other's glasses off, setting them on the side table. "Night." he murmured, closing his eyes and settling down for sleep.
