Chapter 3: Versus Tailow

"Thanks Nurse Joy," Brendan exclaims as he leaves the pokemon center.

I wonder how many people it took to have that many Joy's in the world. He pondered long and hard about the possibly family tree as he walks north into another route.

"Hey Brendon!"

No it can't be. Brandon looks up to see May waving with Kippy by her side.

"I was caught off guard when you came by this morning but now I'm ready for a real battle" May grins looking directly into Brendans shocked expression. "I know you're inexperienced but…."

Brandon laughed interrupting May, "Inexperienced! Look here, little girl, I trained in Jhoto and I've got up to 6 badges before coming here. I have way more experience than you!"

"Okay, then prove it, let's have a 2 on 2 battle!" May looked down at her mudkip "Get in there, Kippy."

Kippy steps forward and Brendan reaches for a pokeball. This would be a good chance to test my newer pokemon so Eevee should sit this one out.

"Go Fang!" Brendan throws out his Poochyena, pulls out his pokedex then scans it.

Looks like I'll have to wing it. "Fang use Tackle!" Brandon commands.

"Kippy, Watergun!"

Kippy shoots a gush of water at the incoming Poochyena halting his attack.

"Fang huh, cute name." May teases as she takes out a different pokedex and scans Poochyena.

Pokedex Entry:

At first sight, POOCHYENA takes a bite at anything that moves. This POKEMON chases after prey until the victim becomes exhausted.

Male

Level: 9

Attacks: Tackle Howl, and Sand Attack

"Wow against my Kippy's level, you don't stand a chance," May informs Brandon. "Kippy Mudslap!"

Mudkip kicks mud into Fang's eyes.

"Aww great, this pokemon has no moves, return." Brendan retrieves Poochyena back into its ball.

"Go Blaze!" Torchic trots out from behind him.

"Blaze? How original are these names, do you even try?" May mocks as she scanned it.

Pokedex Entry:

TORCHIC sticks with its TRAINER, following behind with unsteady steps. This POKEMON breathes fire of over 1,800 degrees F, including fireballs that leave the foe scorched black.

Level: 15

Attacks: Peck, Growl, Focus Energy, Ember.

"Torchic? Hey, you stole my dad's pokemon!"

"Well, actually he kind of gave it away" Brandon grinned, scratching his unusual white hair.

"Liar, Kippy use Water gun!" Mudkip shot a straight stream of water towards Blaze.

"Blaze, dodge and use growl!" Torchic hopped out of the way and growled.

May stood confused "Why would you weaken my attack? I'm using special moves."

"Now Blaze use Focus Energy then Ember," Torchic glows fire red and shoots a wide range of sparks.

Oh no, Torchic's Ember is already 1,800 degrees and with Focus Energy! May hesitated, "Mudkip, dodge it!"

Brandon smirks, "Blaze go right into Peck!" Torchic charges into the flames heating up it's beak before pecking Mudkip in the nose, burning it severely. The mud fish staggered back and fainted.

"Fine then it's time to use my new pokemon!" May tosses another pokeball from her bag into the air. "Go, Taillow!"

Taillow? Brandon wondered as the violet bird was was released into the sky.

"Alright Blaze, Ember!" Torchic spits a series fireballs in the air but Taillow dodges them by flying higher.

"You can't hit a pokemon you can't catch," May laughs.

So he moves, huh?

"Let's try again Fang!" He returns Blaze back into its ball and tosses Fang's ball up into the air near the small bird. As Fang is released it bites onto the swallow's tail, who failed trying to evade.

"But how?" May cries feeling incredulous.

"I remembered your pokedex said that, Poochyena will bite anything that moves." Brandon smiles amused with his success.

"Okay but Taillow is never the type to give up." May backs up with her facts, "Taillow, Quick Attack!"

Taillow went straight for the ground as fast as it could with the weight she carried.

"Fang, let go and growl!" Poochyena let go but let out a howl instead.

That wasn't a growl attack. Brandon noticed he didn't have time to think with the two pokemon coming down for a crash landing. "Fang Tackle!"

Taillow tries to turn it's body upright before it could hit the ground but Poochyena slams into it crashing the both of them into the ground. The both of them fainted.

Humph, guess Fang's not so useless after all, but we still need to work on battling. Brandon thought as he returns Fang to his ball. He turns away and starts making his way back to the small town.

"Brandon! We'll have a rematch right!?"

Brandon still walking away smirks, "you can have as many as you want."

May smiles, "That better be a promise!"

"Sure, why not."
