Chapter 4: Versus Vigoroth
"It's about time we got out of that route, nothing but Zigzagoon Trainers in there." Brendan said relieved finally to enter the city, dusting off his clothes with his hands. Eevee follows him closely and Torchic trots behind the both of them.
"Let's rest in here before we find the Gymleader." Eevee nods and they both walk into the PokeCenter.
"Hi, Nurse Joy! Can you take a look at my pokemon?" He asks handing his pokeballs over the counter her.
"Sure It will take just a moment," the pink haired nurse informs him. Brendan leans on the counter and sees a boy sitting alone on a bench next to the public P.C. He walks over to the green hair child sitting alone in his grey clothing.
"What are you doing, sitting here alone?" Brendan asks slightly interested.
"Oh, I need to catch a pokemon in order to visit my Uncle." The boy whimpers. "But I don't have a pokemon to catch one with."
"Seriously? You can get a free one from the Professor in Littleroot town, trust me."
"Really? Oh thank you very much mister!" the boy cries.
"No sweat, the name's Brendan Ruby."
"I'm Wally Emerald, thanks a lot." He races out of the center with a new-found joy.
Good luck. Brendan smiles, feeling proud of himself for helping Wally. Nurse Joy calls him to retrieve his pokemon.
"Thanks, Nurse Joy." He walks outside and with Eevee, Poochyena and Torchic following close behind him. As he wandered around town he spots a man in a mahogany sweater that he recognized standing in the middle of town.
"Dad?"
The man in the red sweater noticed him, "Oh hello, Brendan so you've finally made it to Hoenn. How's your mom doing?"
"Umm, she's doing great." Brendan replied, lying through his teeth.
"I'll accept that for now, so where are you heading off to?" his father asked.
"I'm looking for the Gym, so I can challenge the Pokemon League."
His father gazed down at him with disapproving eyes. "Brendon, there is no Gyms in Hoenn."
"What!?" Brendan yells in disbelief, his pokemon shook in the shock of his voice.
"Sorry son, but what do you say we have a battle right now?" he offers to cheer his son up noticing the 2 pokemon near him.
"Sure dad, I've been waiting for this my whole life!"
"Great then follow me." They walked to the outskirts of the small city and unto a beach on the coast of the city; Brendan's dad had a pokeball in hand. "I hope you're ready, you can use all your pokemon against my single one."
"Right!"
"Then let's go, Vigoroth!" He summons his pokemon, throwing the ball a foot in front of Brendan. When the rampaging pokemon was released it threw him off-balance as it roared.
When Brendan caught himself he called in Fang. "Alright ready let's go! Howl!"
Fang howls but Vigoroth charged straight for the puppy and slashes it franticly causing Fang to faint. Well that sucks. Brendan returns him to the ball. "Get in there, Eevee."
Eevee hops into the battle.
"So it's your old friend Eevee, huh?" his dad smiles for a moment before changing to a sudden fierce look. "Vigoroth use Slash!"
Vigoroth raises its arm in front of Eevee.
"Eevee, Shadow Ball!" Brendan counters, Eevee shot a purplish-black ball from its mouth but it phased through the incoming Vigoroth. The sloth creature rapidly slashed Eevee.
Crap, so that thing is a normal type.
"Eevee use Return!" Eevee lets out a loud cry that was followed by a solid light, knocking Vigoroth out of balance.
All of that power from a Return? Brendan's dad stands baffled but he's face remained fierce.
"Alright Eevee now it's your chance! Dig!" Eevee leaps into the ground.
"Now! Bite!" Eevee burst out from under Vigoroth and grips onto Vigoroth's neck
"How do you like that, dad?" Brendan exclaimed throwing his fist in the air.
"Nice job son," he claps quietly. "But too bad I have to end this, Facade!"
Facade?
Vigoroth went on a wild rampage, slashing up sand and and growl profusely. Eevee continues to grip onto the rampaging Vigoroth. The sloth jerks itselfs forcibly throwing Eevee off of it and slamming the rabbit pokemon into one of its claws and into the sand.
"It's over, Brendan; you've lost to Norman Ruby of Petalburg City."
Vigoroth backhands Eevee with a third assault throwing Eevee back to Brendan's feet.
"Return Eevee," Brendan retrieves Eevee back to its ball. "Well, dad looks like you beat me agian, huh?"
Brendan stood silence as Vigoroth continues its attack towards him. "Dad, call it off!"
Norman smirked.
Vigoroth got into close-range with Brendan and waved its arm straight for him. Brendan closed his eyes and braced himself.
"TOR-CHIC!"
Brendan opens his eyes to find Vigoroth standing in front of him, burning. He looks to his side and sees Torchic standing by him. "Blaze?"
"Where'd that pokemon come from?" Norman stood dumbfounded.
Brendan grins, "I remember hearing somewhere that Torchic follows its trainer unsteadily, meaning he tends to falls behind."
"That doesn't explain how a weak pokemon like that beat mine."
"Oh, because Eevee weakened it. Plus with Vigoroth's body temperaure and Torchic's ember, he must have exhausted his energy."
"But now you tell me, what was with you attacking me?" Brendan scowled.
"Oh, that was a taste of reality Brendan," he implies while retrieving Vigoroth and walking away. "Hoenn isn't the same as Jhoto kid, the people here are more ruthless in battle."
Brendan stares at his leaving father.
I don't believe that crap, something's up and I'm gonna find out what.
