Title: Stray Curl
Spoilers: None, this is an AU
Summary: A study on Guinevere's hair.
Disclaimer: BBC owns Merlin. All of Britain owns the myth.
Guinevere's hair was not the color black all the way, but there was a generous helping of brown ranging from the darkest chestnut to the lightest mahogany, with sprinklings of rich honey gold and even a reddish tint on some strands. This was something Arthur discovered as he watched her in the sunlight a great many times, seeing her head highlighted with gold, red and shiny black. It made him want to touch it.
Arthur loved Gwen's hair and this was quite well known because he had a habit of running his fingers through her curls. Once he started, he never stopped.
It started one time a long while ago, by tucking a stray curl behind her ear. Arthur liked the reaction to such a simple gesture- Gwen's sweet smile and loving blush. He also felt a bit light hearted. And he liked how that strand felt on his fingers. So he continued to brush her hair whenever he saw the opportunity.
Arthur brushed her hair with his fingers when he was joyful, sad, bored, and pensive or simply to just feel her there.
And it was not just the touch. He loved her hair down and wild covered with flowers or even in a carefully arranged bun. He seen her in all ways- when she worked it, ran, fought, after their wedding night, when she gave birth to their sons and sweat glisten and her locks were heavy. When she had it up, her face shown, and her curls carefully arranged, but then a stray curl would get lose.
And he tucked it behind her ear.
