A/N I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING! I ONLY OWN THIS PLOT! I'M SORRY FOR THE LONG WAIT! I WAS FIGHTING WITH BEING SICK AND WRITER'S BLOCK! :( I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS CHAPTER:
The next morning Gabriella laid wide away in her bed. She couldn't sleep. There was too much running through her mind. The sun had just started to rise when she was starled by a cell phone going off.
Quickly she checked hers but it wasn't hers. Seconds later the ringing stopped. Gabriella heard rustling above her and knew Mitchie was awake. She stayed quiet wondering if Mitchie would go back to sleep.
To her surprise Mitchie quietly and slowly climbed down from the top bunk. Gabriella watched as Mitchie gathered her closthes, a towel, shampoo, and body soap. Curious Gabriella spoke. "What are you doing?"
Mitchie jumped as she turned to face Gabriella. "I'm sorry did I wake you up?"
"No, I can't sleep. What are you doing up so early?" Gabriella said honestly.
"I help my mom is the kitchen. She's the cook here at Camp."
"Oh, could you use an extra pair of hands?"
"You don't have to do that, you can sleep a little longer if you want."
"I want to. I can't sleep anyway, it will give me something to do."
"Ok, how about we make a deal. I'm going to take a shower and get ready. If you're still awake when I come back out and still want to come you can."
Gabriella nodded. "Ok. Deal."
Mitchie smiled and nodded and headed into the bathroom. She was hoping Gabriella would be sleeping by the time she got out. She hadn't been sleeping much since she first got here. She could tell Gabriella was tired but she couldn't force her to sleep. Maybe it was something she should talk to Troy about? She shook the thoughts from her head and focused on getting ready.
When she came out she sighed but smiled softly Gabriella was still wide awake. Seeing Gabriella's pleading look Gabriella nodded. "Ok, go get ready."
"Yes! Thank you!" Gabriella quickly jumped up and rushed into the bathroom.
Mitchie smiled but sighed softly. Maybe this would be a good time to try and get Gabriella to open up. It was clear Gabriella had a lot on her mind but wasn't talking about it. Maybe she could help Gabriella to open up and talk about what was bothering her.
Gabriella was ready quickly and they both headed over to the kitchen.
"Mitchie will I….will I be able to stay with you and work with you?"
"Sure. I can make that happen."
They arrived quickly to the kitchen. They went inside and Mitchie went over to an older woman who looked like an older version of Mitchie.
"Mom, this is Gabriella. Gabriella, this is my mom Connie."
"Hi." Gabriella said shyly.
"Hey, Sweetie. Nice to meet you." Connie shook her hand and smiled softly at her.
"This is her first time at a sleep away camp so she's a little nervous."
"No worries. Camp Rock is so much fun. Now I have to ask, are you here willingly or did Mitchie bribe you?" Connie teased not expecting an answer.
"I came willingly. I couldn't sleep anyway." Gabriella answered.
"Well we can always use an extra pair of hands. Why don't you girl go start on making some eggs. One of you can crack the other can mix."
They both nodded and walked over to the sink to wash their hands.
"You know my mom was just teasing. She doesn't really think I'd force you to come here." Mitchie said as she scrbbed her hands with soap.
"Oh. I didn't want you to get in trouble. I asked to come here." Gabriella said shyly.
"Don't worry I'm not in trouble. It's pretty easy here. Come on I'll show you."
Once they washed their hands they went over to their work station and got started on the eggs. It was quiet for a while. Mitchie broke the silence.
"Can I ask you something?"
"You can ask whatever you want. You just might not get an answer."
"Fair enough. What's up with you and your mom?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well before Troy got here I suggested calling your mom to come pick you up and you told me that she wouldn't come."
Gabriella was quiet for a few minutes not sure of how to answer. The truth would make her mother sound like a terrible person. "I didn't come here by choice." Gabriella started slowly. "This place is more of a place where I can be babysat while my mom goes away on a business trip."
"You weren't able to stay with your friends?"
"I tried, my mother had her heart set on me coming here. I told her I didn't want to be here but she didn't care….uh….I mean…this place was on her way to the airport and she could easily drop me off. So it was easier for her."
"Easier than just letting you stay with a friend?"
"She didn't want to burden them."
Mitchie knew as much as Gabriella was opening up there was a lot she wasn't saying. She was choosing her words very carefully to make sure she didn't say something. Mitchie decided to change the subject off her mother.
"Why do you hate it here so much?"
"I'm just not used to being at places like this. I don't make friends easily and I get really scared and shut down when I'm at a place I don't know with a bunch of people I don't know. I don't hate it now that I've gotten used to it, met you, and that Troy is here."
"Do you still want to go home?"
"Only because leaving means getting away from Axel."
"Why does he scare you so much? I mean, I get it, he isn't the nicest of guys. I don't like him very much either, but I don't think he'd ever hurt you."
"He already has. Troy told you he used to be my father. He was physically and mentally abusive. My mom and I left and we haven't seen him since. I took my mother's maiden name. My real name is Gabriella Turner."
"I understand all that. But if we wanted you wouldn't he be coming to this side more often? I mean he doesn't even know you're here does he? That night at the bonfire he saw something. When I went up on stage the lights were so bright you really couldn't see anyone. I doubt he saw you."
"Dana knows."
"What good would it do her to tell him you're here?"
Gabriella shrugged.
"Is that why you're not sleeping? I know you're awake at night. When I used the bathroom during the night and you pretend to be asleep I know you're awake."
Gabriella sighed. "I'm scared he'll come get me in the middle of the night."
"You know our cabin door does have a lock on it. I make sure to lock it every night before I go to bed. I can't get in."
Gabriella laughed. "Axel is smart enough to break a lock."
"You're not alone in there, Gabriella. Also Troy is right acorss from us. Nobody is going to let him hurt you."
Gabriella shrugged softly as she cracked her last egg. "I guess."
"Trust me."
"That's not something I do very easily."
"I know. I know I have to earn that trust. I will do everything I can to make sure you trust me."
"Good luck." Gabriella mumbled to herself.
"Thanks." Mitchie smirked as Gabriella blushed. "Come on, let's mix these eggs."
The girls continued to cook as they made small talk and laughed. Mitchie didn't know how but she was going to try everything and get Gabriella to trust her.
