Okay first off, I am SOOO sorry it took me so long to update. I had writer's block. Then I watched RAW last and the Shield broke up and I was just devastated and contemplated discontinuing this story. Then I got over it because now those three can have AWESOME singles careers before they ultimately reunite in a few years.
Anyway, this chapter is supposed to have three more sections, one featured a heart to heart between Punk and Roman, the second featured Seth and Renee and the third was a Pack Meeting. However, this section ended up being WAY too long, so I'll just upload the other parts later tonight or tomorrow afternoon.
Enjoy!
Kaitlyn POV
AJ and I didn't bother going back to the den last night, and I didn't go on guard duty. After all, I'm not a back member so who the hell cares? We decided that we would just move into our new apartment as soon as possible, but we needed to give the landlord a heads up before we moved in, so we ended up spending the night at my apartment. Dean joined us at some point while AJ and I were sleeping. He didn't want to go back to the den after guard duty so I left the door open for him.
When AJ and I wake up we find Dean on my couch in the living room, snoring deeply and heavily. "He looks so cute when he sleeps," I think aloud as I walk behind the couch, bending over it and running my fingers through his messy light brown hair. I love playing with his hair, something about the action is just therapeutic… for both of us.
"How long do you think he's slept for?" AJ's question comes out as a small whisper, as to not wake up the sleeping werewolf. I look over at the cable box to check the time. It's almost ten.
"He must have come in around 4:30, so maybe he's been asleep for about four hours."
"Should we wake him up?" I contemplate it for a minute. AJ and I had a lot to do today in order to get ourselves situated back into human society. I would love for Dean to come with us, but I know he's exhausted.
"I think we should leave him here for now and let him rest. Let's go meet the landlord and get some boxes for my stuff first. When we come back, we'll wake him up if he's not up already." AJ nods in agreement, and the both of us exit my apartment, leaving Dean on the couch to get some well-deserved rest.
AJ and I met up with our future landlord, a man by the name of Mike Mizann and his wife Maryse. The couple had shown us the house that they were renting yesterday. It was a single family house with three rooms, one and half bathrooms, and an open concept kitchen and living room. Lucky for us, not only was this house move in ready, but it was only $1200 a month, which was an absolute steal! The only downside was that the house was on the outskirts of town, in the opposite direction of the woods, which meant that the commute from our new house to our workplace was going to be incredibly difficult unless each of us got cars. It wasn't an expense that we were counting on, but this house had everything that AJ and I needed, so we decided to jump on the opportunity.
"Alright, ladies," Maryse addresses us with a smile on her face and a thick French accent. "Here are the keys to your new house." She handed each of us two sets of three keys. "The round one is for the bottom lock, the curvy one is for the top lock and the smallest one is for the mailbox," she explains while pointing at each of the keys.
"Here is a copy of your lease," Mike hands over the document to AJ. "It outlines everything we discussed, including our terms and conditions, when the rent is due and where to send the checks. It also has out contact information in case you need anything."
"Any questions," Maryse asks. I shake my head negative in response.
"Thank you so much for this," I speak up. "I know this is super last minute, and totally unexpected, but we really appreciate how awesome you two have been."
"Not a problem, sweetie," Maryse replies. "So when will you two be moving in?"
"Well we still need to pack up Kaitlyn's stuff," AJ answers. "But we'll be moving my stuff in either later today, or early tomorrow morning, depending on the moving company."
"Okay, well, let us know if you need any help with moving in, alright," Mike tells us.
"We will," I reply. I thank the both of them one more time, and they hop in their car and take off. I turn to AJ with a smile. "Okay, so we can cross getting the keys to the house off of our to-do list. Next we need to get to that moving company, so they can get your stuff over here and can help me pack all my stuff."
"After that we need to get our jobs back." I sigh, completely exasperated. It's not that I don't want my job back, but I know that our former boss, my ex-boyfriend, is going to give us a hard time. Not to mention, what are we supposed to say to him? Oh we couldn't come into work because the local werewolf pack kidnapped us and we got roped into a war between werewolves and sirens?
"What if he asks why we haven't been into work?"
"You could always turn on the charm," AJ suggests with a wicked smile on her face.
"You can't assume he still has feelings for me, AJ! He broke up with me ages ago! Not to mention that I have a boyfriend now."
"We can just say I had a family emergency back in New Jersey and you had a problem with your documents." That could work. I mean I am technically an immigrant, and the US immigration system is very complicated. It's entirely plausible that I could have had issues with my Green Card or something.
"That could work."
When we get back to my apartment from across town and meeting with the local moving company, it's almost one in the afternoon, and Dean's in the kitchen making himself something to eat. I try to sneak up on him and hug him from behind, but he notices me before I can get my arms around him. He turns around and greets me with a small kiss on the lips before acknowledging AJ's presence with a simple 'hey.'
"Where have you two been all morning," he asks us as he returns to the stove. "I woke up, and both of you were gone."
"We had to get our keys from our new place, and request some services from a moving company." I answer.
"So when am I getting my copy of the keys?" AJ's laughs at Dean's question.
"As soon as Kaitlyn and I are all moved in, we'll make sure that you get your copy," she responds to him.
"That sounds fair." Dean finishes making his scrambled eggs and puts them on a plate on the counter next to the stove. "Have you ladies eaten yet?"
I shake my head negative. "I wish you wouldn't have cooked anything. AJ and I were going to get some lunch at our favorite restaurant, and we wanted to invite you. Plus we still have some chores to run."
"I only made two eggs, Katie. It's certainly not going to fill me. Give me a minute to scarf this down and we can go."
For lunch we all went to AJ's and my favorite restaurant, a Greek place named Dionysus' Kitchen. I had discovered this restaurant when I first moved to Gilford. This was actually the place where AJ and I had first met. I had approached AJ after she and I ordered the exact same thing: the Mediterranean Puff Pastry Chicken. Needless to say that we hit it off and have been best friends ever since.
Over lunch, AJ and I got Dean caught up on our status with the new apartment and all of the things that we needed to do today. We told him about how worried we were about the extra cost of getting cars, and he told us that he would take care of the cost. I told him that he didn't have to do that, but, being typical Dean, he insisted until I finally relented.
After lunch, we decide to go back to the bar that AJ and I used to work, a popular pub by the name of The Rhodes' Tavern. It was a family owned bar that had been passed down through two generations. Currently, the original owner's two sons, Dustin and Cody, were in charge of it.
"I really don't want to do this," I say aloud as the three of us stand in front of The Rhodes' Tavern.
"Kaitlyn, we need our jobs back," AJ tries to reason with me. "How else are we going to pay our bills?"
"We could always find new jobs."
"I can always find a new job, but this is your first and only job Katie. You don't have enough work experience to find another job. Plus employment is extremely limited in Gilford, we don't have the luxury of being picky." Dammit she has a good point. In all honesty, I'm just nervous to face my ex, Cody Rhodes. It's been awkward between us ever since the break-up, and having to ask for my job back is just going to make things even more uncomfortable.
"Hey," Dean grabs my attention as he takes me by the hand. "If you can stand up to Punk and go through a war with the sirens, I think you've got this." I can't help but smile. I mean, compared to everything else I've been through this should be a walk in the park. I turn to AJ and nod at her, signaling that I'm ready to face Cody.
When we first walk inside, I notice that everything has been fixed since the last time I was here, which was when I had been coerced into going to the den with Dean and Seth. The windows were fixed and the tables and chairs had been replaced with all new furniture that made the place look a lot classier than it had in the past.
Suddenly, I feel AJ tug on my sleeve of my shirt and directs my attention behind the bar, where both Cody and his older brother Dustin are tending to the customers. I politely ask Dean to have a seat while AJ and I have a word with the owners, and he agrees. AJ and I take deep breaths to calm our nerves before we finally approach the Rhodes brothers.
Dean POV
I take a seat at one of the tables as Kaitlyn and AJ walk toward the bar and approach the two guys standing behind it. The taller and clearly older guy greets the both of them with a smile and immediately moves from behind the bar and hugs the both of them. The shorter, younger guy is a little more reserved, and greets Kaitlyn and AJ with a simple nod and quick hand gesture, but there's something about him that I don't like. He seems a little shifty to me, like he's up to something. Some words are exchanged between the four of them before the older guy goes back behind the bar to tend to the customers, and the younger guys comes from behind the bar and directs Kaitlyn and AJ to an empty table in the corner of the bar.
I know Kaitlyn wanted me to take a seat so that they could speak privately, and I should respect that… but there's something about this young guy that I just don't trust. It wouldn't hurt if I listened in on their conversation, right? Lucky for me, the bar isn't too busy, so, although they are across the bar, it shouldn't be difficult to hear what they're saying, given that my hearing is heightened compared to human hearing.
"Thanks for taking the time to let us plead our case Cody," AJ tells the guy. So Cody's his name, huh?
"Yeah, no problem. I'm really curious as to why you two haven't been to work in almost a month and practically dropped off the face of the Earth." I don't like this guy's tone… asshole.
"Well I had a really big family emergency back Jersey, so I had to leave immediately, and I was so preoccupied with it that it totally slipped my mind to call in." AJ finishes her story and is completely out of breath. I know for a fact that she's lying, and I guess she was nervous about getting caught which is why she rushed through her excuse.
"I can understand that," Cody responds while nodding his head. He then turns to Kaitlyn whose head is down. Cody looks down at her breasts before he lifts his eyes and addresses her. "What's your excuse?" I don't appreciate this guy checking out my lady. He better proceed with an exceeding amount of caution.
"I had a problem with my Green Card," Kaitlyn blurts out.
"What kind of problem?" Why is this guy asking so many questions? He didn't ask AJ any questions.
"My Green Card expired and I had to put in for a new one and wait for it to arrive. You know how law enforcement is about immigrants so I was afraid to leave my apartment unless I had my Green Card."
"So why didn't you just call and let me know?" I'm very close to getting up from my chair and telling Cody off.
"I couldn't call. You know I have a prepaid phone and I ran out of minutes, and because I wasn't working, I could afford to put more minutes on my phone." Kaitlyn is really good at thinking on her feet. On the way here, she had only practiced saying that she had a problem with her Green Card, but she didn't even mention anything that she just told him. That's my girl.
"Try to get yourself on a real cellphone plan, and next time we can avoid this." What's with him? First he checks her out, and now he's giving her all types of problems. Kaitlyn only nods her head as a reply. Cody sighs deeply before he speaks again. "Well we are short two bartenders and our regular customers have been asking for the both of you specifically since you disappeared. I suppose, as long as this never happens again, we can give you your jobs back." Wide smiles spread across Kaitlyn's and AJ's faces.
"Thank you so much, Cody," AJ shouts excitedly while jumping out of her chair.
"We promise nothing like that will ever happen again," Kaitlyn adds as she, too, stands up. Cody gets out of his chair and he and AJ share a hug.
"Ladies, you know we don't mind giving you time off if you really need it." He lets go of AJ and turns to Kaitlyn. "Just communicate with us what you need and what's going on next time, okay?" Kaitlyn nods with a smile and the two of them share a hug. I don't like the way he's hugging her. His hands are too low, the hug is too tight and it's lasting a little too long. Just as I am about to get up and separate the two of them, Kaitlyn and Cody let one another go. "You guys can return to work tomorrow. AJ, take the night shift and Kaitlyn you can take the late morning shift. I'll see you ladies tomorrow." Kaitlyn and AJ thank Cody one more time and walk by my table to let me know that it was time to go. Before exiting, though, I look back to see Cody staring straight back at me. He gives me a curious look before walking to the bar and approaching the older guy from before. I narrow my eyes as I watch him. What was that look for?
The rest of the day went pretty well. We went to the local car dealership where I purchased two cars, one for AJ and one for Kaitlyn. The both of them shopped around a bit before finally deciding on their cars. AJ decided on a wine colored Honda Fit. She thought that it would be the perfect car to drive the baby around in, since it has a high safety rating. Kaitlyn decided on a midnight blue 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid. She liked it for its fuel efficiency and "bad-ass" appearance. I approved of the choice, the car seemed to match her personality.
After all the paperwork and payments were taken care of, the dealership owner allowed us to take the cars on the spot. AJ opted to go back to her apartment in order to get back in touch with her family and inform them of her decision to stay in New Hampshire. She also need to get in contact with her doctor, a Dr. Vickie Guerrero, in order to set up an appointment for her first sonogram and checkup. Kaitlyn and I decided to go back to her apartment so we can get her things ready for the movers that were coming over tomorrow to take her belongs to the new apartment.
Throughout the car ride, Kaitlyn smile never leaves her face. I know that she's really happy because today went very well for her, but my mind is still stuck at the bar. I don't know about Kaitlyn working for that Cody guy. He was too into Kaitlyn for my liking. I didn't like the way he spoke to her, touched her or even looked at her. He seems shifty, shady. I don't like him at all.
"Dean, are you listening?" Kaitlyn's voice pierces through my thoughts and grabs my attention. Has she been talking to me this whole time?
"No, I'm sorry, babe. What did you say?" She keeps her eyes on the road, but smiles.
"I said that you've been really quiet. What's on your mind?"
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it."
"Dean." Her voice comes out sternly, as though she's warning me that I shouldn't be lying to her. I take a deep breath.
"It's about Cody."
"How do you know his name? I didn't introduce you." Damn! She noticed.
"I… may have eavesdropped on your conversation," I tell her with caution.
"Dean are you serious?! We weren't supposed to be part of that conversation at all!" She's a lot angrier than I thought she'd be. Is she trying to keep something from me?
"Why? What are you trying to hide?" We reach a red light and she hits the brakes. She takes a deep breath and runs her fingers through her hair before looking at me briefly. Then she returns her hand to the wheel and looks back at the road.
"Cody and I used to date." I don't react at first. I just let the newfound information sink in before I speak.
"When were you planning on telling me that you'll be working for your ex?" I can't really tell if I'm mad or not, but I think I'm getting there.
"To be honest, I don't know if I ever was." The light changes and she starts driving again. I'm definitely mad now. She got mad at me for not telling her about Summer, but she doesn't tell me about Cody? What kind of double standard is that?! Not to mention that this is almost 100 times worse because, unlike me, she's going to be seeing her ex every day!
"Was he your first love?" It may not matter, in the long run, but it's important to me that I know. She nods her head in confirmation and sighs. "Is that all he was?" She bites her perfectly plump lower lip and blinks slowly before shaking her head.
"He was my first… period." That bastard touched her. She lost her virginity to him, and now she's working for me. This is bullshit.
"Find another job," I demand, doing my best not to throw a fit.
"What?!" For the first time since we started this conversation, she takes her eyes off the road and looks at me in shock, but she quickly realizes that she's lost her focus and returns her eyes to the road.
"I want you to quit that job. I'm not going to have my girlfriend working for the asshole who was her first… EVERYTHING!" I'm starting to lose my cool. I know I shouldn't be fighting with Kaitlyn, especially when she's driving, but I refuse to put this subject down right now.
"I knew you were going to react like this! This is exactly the reason I didn't want to tell you," she replies as calmly as possible, but I can tell that she's getting angry.
"I'm not wrong about this Kaitlyn!"
"What are you so worried about?! Don't you trust me?"
"It's not you I'm worried about! It's him!"
"What are you talking about?!"
"He's into you!" She takes her eyes off the road again to look at me incredulously. She then scoffs and looks back at the road. "It's not a joke Kaitlyn. The way he was looking at you, and holding you and talking to you, it's obvious that he still has a thing for you."
"Okay, first of all, you're being ridiculous. Cody was the one who broke up with me. So no he doesn't have a thing for me. Second, so what?" So what? What the hell does that mean?! So what?! "As long as I remain faithful to you what does it matter who looks at me? My doorman looks at me! Are you going to tell me to not go back home? The waiter at Dyonysis' Kitchen looks at me! Are you going to tell me to stop going there?!"
"You didn't sleep with those guys!" I don't really know that.
"So what if I didn't?" Thank God! "It's the same concept isn't it? You just don't like other guys looking at me!"
"No, I'm just not comfortable with the idea of you working for the man who took your virginity!" We finally arrive at her apartment building, and she parks the car. She gets out of the car before I do slams the door hard. She stomps off to building entrance, absolutely furious. I close the door behind me and jog in order to catch up to her. I catch her just as she enters the elevators. "I don't know why you're upset! I'm the one who has reason to be angry," I tell her as the elevator doors close.
"I'm upset because you're trying to control me, Dean! You know how I feel about shit like that!"
"What so I'm the bad guy now?"
"I didn't say that!" She crosses her arms over her chest and turns her body to face me directly. "Listen, Dean, I understand that you're upset. I shouldn't have kept this from you, but you're overreacting." Her tone has eased. Her anger is replaced with hurt. Dammit!
"Kaitlyn, this is a big deal to me. I don't want that guy hitting on you."
"The thing is, he wasn't the first guy to hit on me, and he won't be the last. I need you to trust that I'm not going to fall for anything he may throw at me."
"Katie," I walk closer to her and grab a hold of her shoulders gently. "I know you won't. You're too smart to fall for anything like that." She looks up at me and gives me a small smile. "But, I don't know what those guys are capable of."
"Dean, please?" Damn that word! "Please just trust me? If you want you can visit during my shifts to check in, but don't try to control me, please?" I sigh in both frustration and defeat. How am I supposed to say no, now?
"Fine." Her smile widens and she jumps on me, wrapping her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist. My hands go to her lower back to support her.
"You're the best, Dean. I love you so much."
"I love you too, Katie." We share simple kiss, but she starts slipping from my grip. I'm not quite ready to let her go, so I grab her butt and lift her up just before the elevator door opens.
"I'm sorry I kept it from you," she tells me as I walk us over to her apartment. I stop at her door, but before I put her down so she can open it, I lean into the crook of her neck, and kiss it softly.
"Let's go inside and you can show me how sorry you are."
Yeah, no sexy time. These two are always finding excuses to have sexy time!
