Seattle, 4:50 p.m.

"Mark's fiancée is Lexie Grey, Meredith's sister? Seriously?" asked Amy Shepherd.

"Yes, Amy, I'm getting married," said Mark with a smile. "Derek and I are marrying sisters. What were the odds?"

"Really, not a surprise, Mark," commented Carolyn Shepherd. "The two of you did everything together when you were boys."

"Amy Shepherd?" asked Alex.

"Amelia. Only Mark and Derek call me Amy. I'm here with my sisters Lizzie, Kathleen, and Nancy, their husbands, and eleven of their children. The other three are with Mark. Do you need all their names?"

"No. The ceremony is about to start. It might be nice if you wrote a list and mailed it to Izzie Stevens. She's going to create a scrapbook for Meredith and Derek."

"That's a lovely idea," remarked Lizzie. "We'll have the kids draw some pictures of the wedding for the scrapbook.

"Izzie would love that."

"Oh, and we also have Addison Montgomery and Jake Reilly here," added Lizzie.

"That's interesting," commented Alex. He had always liked Addison. She had been the one who recognized his talent with babies. He wondered how she had come to be watching the wedding, but he realized that it would be rude to ask. "Glad to have you with us, Dr. Montgomery."

"Dr. Montgomery?" asked Derek. His ears perked up when he heard her name.

"Nancy asked me to come, Derek. Hope it's okay."

"It's fine with me," he replied. He wasn't entirely sure that Meredith would be as happy to have her husband's first wife at her wedding, but she was upstairs preparing for the wedding and there was nothing they could do about it at this point anyway. Maybe she wouldn't find out until she looked at the scrapbook. And Meredith had always said she liked Addison, just that she didn't like being the dirty mistress.

"Good. I want you to be happy, Derek."

"And I want you to be happy, too."

"And do we also have Seattle Grace on the line?" asked Alex. He wanted to keep everyone on track for the wedding to start at 5.

"Yes, Adele Webber here with Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins. We expect more people will be joining us in a few minutes. We have a sign-in sheet so you have a record of the people who come."

"It's great that all of you are joining us for our wedding, albeit long distance. Meredith and really wish you could all be here in person to share this special day with us," said Derek, "but you all understand our situation. We plan on having a big anniversary party one year from now, and we hope all of you will be able to come in person then."

He heard a chorus of "We will" and "I will." He smiled. He was so glad to have some many family members and friends, including even his ex-wife, to support him.

"We're going to mute you now, so that you can hear the wedding, but we won't be able to hear your commentary. So feel free to comment away. Derek is going to join his best man, Richard Webber in front of Dr. Miranda Bailey, who will be performing the wedding. For the few of you who aren't Shepherds, Carolyn Shepherd, mother of the groom is already seated." He brought the camera to focus on Carolyn, who was wearing a silver dress and a big smile. He then focused on Derek, who was wearing his favorite blue suit. He had bought a new tie for the occasion. He had chosen a lavender tie to match Chrissy's dress. She had jumped up and down when he showed her his tie and told her he wanted his tie to match her dress.

Boston, 4:55 p.m.

"Uncle Mark, that party's only going to take place if Chrissy is okay, right?" asked Janie.

"I don't know, sweetheart, but let's hope question never needs to be answered. Meredith wants us to think positive. Chrissy has to be fine." Mark hugged Janie.

Seattle, 5 p.m.

Derek smiled as Part of Your World began to play. He was amazed that Meredith had let Chrissy choose the music; that, given the opportunity, Chrissy would chose a song from The Little Mermaid was not a surprise. He turned to Richard, who was standing beside him, and whispered, "If Chrissy wasn't sick, she would have wanted us to get married at Disneyland."

"Meredith would never have agreed," responded Richard.

"Don't be so sure. Listen to the music."

"I don't think Meredith has ever been to Disneyland."

"Probably not," Derek said thoughtfully. "Ellis Grey doesn't strike me as the kind of mom who would take a kid to Disneyland."

"No. Not at all. She bought Meredith Anatomy Jane and suture kits. I'm sure Meredith spent her time after school in o.r. galleries, not watching Disney movies."

"But Meredith enjoys watching Disney movies with Chrissy. We're going to take Chrissy to Disneyland as soon as the doctor says she can go, and we have the vacation time we need for the trip."

"Look at her," Richard whispered, as their eyes turned to the top of the stairs. Chrissy began going down the stairs. She was wearing a lavender dress, with a white bow around her waist. Derek was impressed that she had willingly chosen a very simple dress, but Chrissy explained, "You'll see, Daddy, why I chose this dress. Mommy loved it because lavender's her favorite color."

She wore a beautiful wreath of purple and white flowers on her head. She carried a basket as well, and once she arrived on the first floor she began strewing white rose petals on the floor.

Seattle, 5:05 p.m.

"She's darling, Lexie," commented Susan. "I see why you want her as a flower girl."

"I'm so excited that Mark found out about the robot so she can come to our wedding."

"What robot?" asked Thatcher.

"There are these robots that are designed for kids who can't come to school because of cancer or other reasons to appear in school; their classmates can see them on the video screen, and they can see their classmates. So we'll be able to see Chrissy, and she'll be able to see our wedding."

"You want a robot in your wedding party?"

"Yes, Daddy."

Thatcher looked at Lexie; he saw she was serious. "It's your wedding, sweetie. As long as you stay within the budget, you can do what you want."

"Thanks, Dad. I know we were going to try and keep the wedding under 100 people, but Mark may want to invite all the Shepherds now that he's back in touch with them. He told me that he'll pay for any additional guests. We don't want you to go over budget."

"That's good of him."

"Dad, he's one of the top plastic surgeons in America. He doesn't have to worry about money."

New York, 8:07 p.m., Seattle 5:07 p.m.

"She's adorable," commented Addie. "She has Derek's eyes and a really sweet smile. She looks so happy."

"I would have had her wear a wig. You can see that she lost her hair," noted Nancy.

"I think she's brave. She has nothing to be ashamed of, you know," responded Addie.

"I know. But think of the wedding pictures," muttered Nancy.

"They'll document her bravery," Addie replied.

"I think she looks gorgeous," added Lizzie.

"Me, too," said Kathleen. "And it's a bad idea to make kids who are going through chemo self-conscious about losing their hair."

"I'm not making her self-conscious. She can't hear me at all!"

"That's good. She is our niece."

"We know that for sure because of me."

"Just look at her eyes. You didn't need a DNA test to see she's Derek's daughter," remarked Lizzie.

"I'm glad Meredith did it. I like having certainty."

"And pissing off our brother," noted Amelia.

"He hasn't said anything to me about it."

"Has he said one word to you since the DNA test?" asked Amelia.

"He sent a note thanking me for my donation."

"Has he spoken to you?" asked Lizzie.

"No."

"Case closed," responded Amelia.

Seattle, 5:10 p.m.

Chrissy finally finished strewing the rose petals. She went over to her dad and gave him a big hug. He lifted her up and kissed her forehead. He then turned around and put her down in a chair next to his mother. Carolyn hugged her granddaughter and whispered, "Good job, sweetie."

George, taking seriously his responsibility for the music, went to the next song on the playlist that Chrissy had designed, "Colors of the Wind." Izzie Stevens walked slowly down the staircase. She wore a simple deep purple sleeveless dress that fell just below her knees, and she carried a bouquet of violets. She sat down beside Chrissy.

George hit the next song on the playlist: "You've Got a Friend in Me." Cristina Yang walked down the staircase. She wore a halter dress with a lighter shade of purple, known as orchid; her dress, also fell just below her knee. Her bouquet consisted of phlox, another purple flower.

"Now it's time for Mommy," exclaimed Chrissy.

"Sh, sweetie," responded Carolyn Shepherd.

"It's okay," whispered Izzie. "Everyone knows she's excited about the wedding. It's really sweet."

The next song on the playlist was "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" And then came "Once Upon a Dream," and Meredith began walking down the stairs. She was radiant. Derek immediately noted that her dress was the mirror image of Chrissy's – where Chrissy's was lavender with a white bow, Meredith's was white with a lavender bow. No wonder Chrissy was willing to accept a simple dress; Meredith must have persuaded her that it would be wonderful if their dresses matched. Meredith wore her hair down. She also had a wreath of flowers on her head, just like Chrissy, and she carried a bouquet of violets, phlox, and white roses.

Seattle: 5:30 p.m.

"She's a beautiful bride, Dad," commented Lexie.

"Gorgeous," add Susan.

Thatcher was silent. He didn't want to say what he thought: she looked like the spitting image of her mother on her mother's wedding day. For the first time in a long time, he though about how happy he had felt on his first wedding day and his initial love for Ellis. They had been happy together for a while, at least until Ellis started her residency at Seattle Grace and had met Richard Webber. For so long, he had thought that having a child with Ellis was a big mistake in retrospect although he had been delighted when Ellis had agreed to try to get pregnant and then when he learned that they had succeeded. But then he looked at Chrissy, a child whose conception he knew was unplanned, and thought about how her dad had totally reorganized his life for her. He knew that being a bone marrow donor was relatively easy, nothing like giving a kidney or a piece of liver. But Derek had left his job and his home to come to Seattle. He knew Derek was a better man than he was, and he felt glad that his daughter had found such a good man to marry.

Boston, 5:30 p.m.

"Uncle Derek's bride is hot," explained Mike.

"That's for sure," commented Mark. "Just like her sister."

"So you do have the same taste in girls."

"Yes."

"It's good that there were two sisters available, so you can each have one," commented Danny.

"Don't be so snarky. Uncle Mark has reformed," scolded Janie.

"Thanks to Lexie," replied Danny.

Mark laughed. "I give her all the credit, kids. And I know I betrayed your Uncle Derek, but I think we're all happier now."

"At least if Chrissy gets better," remarked Janie.

"Derek is marrying Meredith today, for better and for worse."

"We know that, Uncle Mark. That's what marriage is about, for better and for worse. But it's a lot easier when it's for better."

"Well, when you are choosing life partner, you need someone who will be there for you, no matter what."
