Forgive me for taking so long on updating this story! I have many stories that i have been working on so it's hard to actually transition to a Misc. story. To my sister who has been hounding me for the past year, you better love me 3
Please review and enjoy!
Leo groaned as she laid on her bed, bored out of her mind. Dakota had been called up to talk to Andy again and Maiya had just left after cleaning her healing wounds. She could hear growls and a lot of howling from several pack members who were staying on the lower floors like her and sounded like they were fighting or something like that. She no longer had to have her injuries wrapped, which was nice but refused to put a shirt on to cover her abdominal injury since that one had been deeper than the one on her thigh which was half hidden by her spandex shorts.
Her sketchbook was open to a blank page next to her, half covered by all the homework packets that Jack kept bringing by. All those were finished already, she just didn't bother to stack them on the table. She was bored and didn't know what to do about it. Growling again, she rolled onto her side and closed her eyes, hoping that a nap might help her boredom. An image of her father's amulet came to her head as darkness claimed her.
"Your sleep schedule is messed up Tay-Tay, it is unhealthy for you especially since your still healing," his voice was disapproving as she opened her eyes and she glared at her birth father as they sat in the cave again.
"Stop this," she muttered as she leaned against the wall. "Why are you hiding and not even trying to come find me?"
"Because then the Nightbloods will find you," Brandon spoke as he sat by the fire.
"Why are they after me?"
"The clans have tried hunting me down since that night I left. I couldn't come back unless I wanted you to get hurt."
"Why just me? Why not Dylan and mom as well?"
"Dylan didn't inherit the Hunter genes, only you. The eyes is what was inherited as well as the triangular birthmark on your spine between your shoulders. Hunters are rare to find now and when the clans find out that they still live, they hunt them down and slaughter them. I'm sure by now that they realize what you are and are trying to plan how to get around your protectors and get to you."
"You make no sense. Why should the clans be the only one hunting you down? Why are the werewolves not doing the same?"
"Because they have already made you an ally. If you had become allies with the clans, then the mutts would have been the ones to hunt you down..."
"These guys were hunting me down before they knew I was friends with a wolf and before they knew what I was. They thought I looked tasty and wanted to rape me. So let's try this again, why are they after me? No lies, no excuses, no false promises, just answer the question."
"They must have realize you were not a normal human when they first attacked. That's why they came back. A female hunter only happens every few centuries and they are unpredictable. They are also stronger than their male counterparts when their power is awakened. You need training, but it is too risky for me to train you. Among the mutts that protect you is there an old alpha?"
"The alpha's father is there," Leo frowned. "The other week I got him irritated and he only popped a tail, he never fully transformed."
"When an alpha transfers his power to the next alpha, it gets harder to transform. Tell him to start teaching you to fight. If he asks why, tell him that the Silver Shadows required him to do so."
"I don't understand... Silver Shadows? Why must I start learning to fight?"
"To protect yourself." The cave walls started to blur slightly and Leo frowned. "Time has run out for now. I will talk to you soon."
Leo opened her eyes and gasped for air as if she had been holding her breath for too long as she bolted into a sitting position. She looked around and saw one of the young pack mates at the edge of the bed, a look of surprise and fear on her face. Leo took several more breathes to calm down before looking at the clock and realizing she slept for several hours.
"Are you okay?" The girl asked, she was maybe 11 years old with her brown hair in a ponytail and a simple red dress on.
"Yeah..."
"Alpha told me to come check on you and let you know that dinner is ready. You were barely breathing when I entered, bad dream?"
"I guess so," Leo sighed as she ran a hand through her hair.
"Maiya told me to give this to you. She said you were complaining about clothes over your wounds," the girl smiled as she held out a white top.
"Thank you," Leo smiled and took it from her and slid it on. It was a short sleeved shirt that stopped around her belly button and was loose under her chest.
"You're slow," she grinned and hurried to the door as Leo finally got to her feet.
"Come on, food is getting cold!"
"Still injured over here," Leo smiled as she walked stiffly after the girl.
"At least you able walk almost normally."
"True but that physical therapist is harsh."
"Marcus is used to working with the boys after a fight of some sort. He is one of very few humans who know about us. This is the first time a wolf has called in a favor to help one of his own kind recover from a supernatural attack," the girl shrugged as they walked up the stairs.
"What is your name?"
"Tanya," she smiled. "My mom is Stephanie."
"Gotcha."
"Hunter, why are you not taking the elevator?"
"She's not allowed to, you dummy," another boy snapped and Leo turned her head and saw two teenage boys behind her. "Marcus said that she had to use the stairs to help her leg injury heal properly."
"As far as I'm concerned, neither of you should be talking to her. She's Dakota's," Tanya spun on the two. "Besides this has to be the first time I've seen you two actually use the stairs."
"Like your mother more and more every day," Leo turned and looked up the stairs to see Henry standing at the top. "You're doing much better on those stairs Leo."
"Thanks, want to help me while these three squabble?" Leo asked, taking a deep breath.
"Of course," he chuckled and came down and pulled her into his arms. "Kyle and Connor are always like this. They act like twins."
"Hey!" Both boys growled.
"Get your asses up to the dinner room," Henry ordered and they ran past them and up the stairs.
"Henry...?" Leo frowned and looked at her hands.
"What is it child?"
"I was told to ask you to start teaching me to fight, per the Silver Shadows," she whispered as she looked up at his questioning face.
"I see," he sighed. "So Brandon has finally learned to walk dreams."
"You know him?"
"I ran into your father a few years ago. Though I did not know the connection between you two until I saw your drawing of his amulet. I am getting old. I should have made the connection the second I saw your eyes. Does he know where you are?"
"No, not that I know of anyway. He said he lost tabs on me when I moved here after nationals. I don't understand why he said to ask you to start teaching me."
"It is better that he does not know where you are, do not ever tell him. No names, no hints or anything. It would be very dangerous for him to come near you, especially when the clans are trying to hunt you down."
"Why would he be a threat to me?" She frowned and looked at him but he didn't look at her as he set her down outside the dining room. "Henry...?"
"I have things to do, go eat and we will continue this discussion away from prying ears," he spoke quietly before walking off.
