Hiya! Would've made this chapter earlier but I have had a really hectic week and couldn't also really busy so the free time I was granted I spent on reading and catching up on a few episodes of anime. Now that things have cooled down in my life at the moment I thought it would be a great moment to write a chapter! I really like this chapter and I think it kinda expresses what has been happening to me lately so I feel a small connection with it even though that sounds a bit corny. Oh well. I hope you enjoy this chapter as much as I have! Thank you for those who reviewed, favorite, and followed last chapter! It made my day! Please leave a Review and Favorite! Farewell and Enjoy!
-Let there be midnight
ME NO OWN FAIRY TAIL
It Set Me Off
Natsu sighed in annoyance and took ahold of his cloak and tore it off, letting the silk material flutter to the ground in a small lump. He stared down at Len as if he was nothing more than a pest that he had to stomp on, the pink haired teen retaining a relaxed fighting stance in front of the boy who seemed to glower in anger at this with his empty eyes.
"If that's how it's going to be." Natsu said, his fist lighting on fire, the air around him heating up. Before any of the Fairy Tail members could move forward and at least try to do something, the two Death Bringer members were soon out of sight. Erza blinked in surprised and looked around only to see flares of fire and trees falling to the ground with a sickening crunch moving all around them in a blinding speed. Trees had started to ignite in fire, spreading to other trees, bushes, and grass on the forest floor, smoke rising in heavy clouds to block out the glistening crescent moon above.
"Shit," Erza muttered in anger, changing into her Flight Armor, taking off to where Natsu and Len were.
"Great, now what do we do?" Gray asked, crossing his arms over his bare chest.
Natsu aimed a punch straight at Len's gut, but the boy swiped at his flaming fist with a dagger, only for the metal to get slightly melted from the heat of Natsu's fist.
You're a coward. Len's voice echoed in Natsu's mind, full of despise. Natsu's eyes narrowed slightly in annoyance as he lit his right leg on fire and kicked Len in the side, flinging the boy into a tree and catching his cloak on fire, Len quickly taking off his cloak to reveal a long white sleeved shirt with a hood attached and khaki pants and green sandals.
"Gee, that hurts." Even though the sarcasm wasn't evident in Natsu's voice, it was easily noticed by Len who threw eight daggers, one nicking Natsu's neck, another his arm and two on his side and leg.
King will do away with you easily, you know. He'll do away with that silly cat of yours too just like he was nothing more than a fly. Oh wait, he is nothing more than a fly. Len said jumping up higher on a tree and throwing more daggers to Natsu who dodged them easily. There was a flash of fear and hesitance to go forward in Natsu as he passed, his flames coating his fist flickering out before his face contorted in anger and he let loose a thunderous roar that shook the ground, flames licking up and down his body, growing steadily higher until they reached all the way to the sky and seemed to be licking at the stars above, hidden by black inky smoke.
"Shut up." Natsu growled, the pupil of his eyes thinning to those of a wild animal, a hint of gold showing through. He flung himself at Len, faster than he was before as he threw punch after punch at Len who barely had time to dodge them, unable to land his own attacks on Natsu. "King will never touch Happy. I won't allow it!" He bared his canines like a rabid dog and let loose another thunderous roar that was louder than the other. "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" Len did his best to deflect the attack by shielding himself with his forearms, Natsu being stronger than he anticipated, the attack flinging him through tree after tree until he finally stopped when his body hit a cliff a few miles away, the impact on the cliff making a large crater.
Len barely had time to stand up from the crater, his body aching all over and blood welling up in his mouth before Natsu was there standing like a wild dragon who was enraged with fire flickering at the ends of his hair, finger tips, and coating his arms and hands, body and legs alike as if a safe blanket. His eyes were no longer onyx but a bright dangerous gold with slit for pupils. The blood that had ran down from the small cuts Len had managed to get on him were dried and already healing at a fast rate. His nostrils flared as he stared down at Len in anger the boy had never witnessed. In that moment Len regretted saying that King will kill Happy. It was a mistake he was willing to take back.
He had wobbled on his weak legs for a few seconds before Natsu was there right in front of him, raising his flame coated fist and bringing it down on Len's head, making him tumble once more to the ground. The last thing Len had ever seen in his one good eye was a dragon coated in hot flames leaning over him, a starry sky that had bellowing smoke going up as if to great a mother before the dragon brought down his flaming fist with a roar that rattled his teeth, and Len knew no more.
When Erza finally reached Natsu, she stood in shock as she took in her surroundings. Trees were broken around, and the ones that weren't were scorched black and looked like it would fall with just one blow of wind. Fire crackled and hissed with a deep fog of black smoke and in front of her was a large cliff with an even larger crater in the middle. At the bottom was a small figure lying motionless with its arms spread on either side broken, and legs bent slightly.
Natsu had his back towards her but she could see the angry breathes he was taking. The flames had died away and Erza could just make out by the flames eating away at the trees behind her the blood that wasn't the pink haired teen's falling down a limp fist.
"Natsu! What happened?!" she shouted, thoughts flying to the state Len was in as her eyes landed on the small body that didn't even seem to breath.
Slowly, achingly slowly, Natsu turned towards her and for the first time in a very long while, Erza froze in fear at his dangerous golden eyes that were wide and reminded her of those that belonged to a dragon. But the gold and dragon slit eyes didn't last long as Natsu regained control of his senses and the gold blended back into onyx, slit pupils turning back to normal.
He looked long at Erza with his now blank face before he turned around again and looked at the unmoving body of Len. Erza changed out of her Flight Armor back into her regular clothing and walked forward until she stood just slightly behind Natsu.
"What happened?" she asked again as her eyes went towards the still body of Len. Blood dripped down the corner of the boy's mouth and his nose was crooked in odd angels, blood gushing out from both nostrils. Stray strands of greyish green hair falling onto his closed eyes, the burned scars on the right side of his face looking like they were far angrier than they before, bruised and some opened with blood falling down on the side of his face.
Natsu didn't bother to look up, his eyes still transfixed on Len's face.
"He said King'll kill Happy." he said quietly, reminding Erza of a small child. Erza glanced at him through the corner of her eyes and saw the walls he was building up in his mind through his blank eyes and felt sympathy for him. "I didn't like that." he added. Erza nodded, swallowing a lump that had formed in her throat as she looked behind her and then back towards Natsu.
"Well, it's best if we hurry and go save Happy, he probably misses you." She felt like she was treading on thin ice as she spoke this, knowing just one word at the moment will set Natsu off. Natsu slowly nodded and turned around, walking back towards where they had set up camp for the night. Erza didn't follow as she looked once more down at the body of Len and felt sorry for him. He was just a kid who never got to grow up, not even in life.
She turned around and followed a few paces behind Natsu back to camp.
Overhead the stars were no longer visible as smoke overcame the sky.
