Dreaming of Reality chapter 12
The steady sound of beeping reached my ears. Softly at first then more clear. I turned my head slowly, letting my eyes flutter open. The white room sent a panic through me. Machines of all kind stood around me showing vitals and such. I lifted my head a little to see my arms connected to the machines. My breathing quickened. A tube flowed out of my nose sending oxygen into my lungs. I felt my body begin to shake.
"Shhh, relax." An unfamiliar voice came from across the room. I turned as the man crossed the room kneeling down beside my bed.
"Anders?" the man before me caused my heart to stop. He had dirty blonde hair and bright brown eyes just like the mage had. The only clear difference was his clothes. He wore a light blue button down and black slacks under a white doctor's robe. He looked of this time.
"Um, no." the man laughed nervously. "My name is Andrew." He ran a hand hesitantly through his hair. "I was in the forest when you fell," he held up a hand in somewhat defense before I could question his being in the forest. "Taking pictures."
I felt confusion spread across my face. "When I fell?"
"Yes. You were jogging by a couple of days ago. Something happened and you passed out." He looked to her sadly. "I would have taken you home, but I don't …" he looked to me as if testing to see if I could even remember.
"Lealia. Lealia Hawke."
"Hawke?" recognition hit his face. "Your mother was the writer, yes? She died just last month."
My heart flinched and I felt my vision faded. In the back of my mind I Could hear Sebastian yelling to get Anders. I could just barely make out the smell of the hanged man.
"Yes." I shook my head clearing my head of the thoughts of my dream. "Yes she was. And yes she did."
Andrew looked away, sadness clear on his face. "My apologies. I'm sure she will be dearly missed."
The condolence was familiar. I could feel the memory of it buried deep in my mind.
"Seeing as how you're awake, shall we contact the proper people?"
I sat in silence secretly wondering who exactly were the right people. Everything so familiar, seemed like I had gone through this but not in this exact way.
I couldn't shake the strong sense of de ja'vu when Andrew called my name. "Hakwe?"
My head snapped to him breaking my train of thought. I nodded my face drifting off once again as the thoughts began to take over again.
"Right. I shall get the doctor."
"What do you mean she will not wake?!" Sebastian lashed at the mage as he tried to calm him. Anders jumped back, hands raised in defense as he tried to correctly explain what was happening to their friend.
"Her mind is fading." Anders spoke slowly, lowering his hands as the defeat that he felt seeped in fully. "She doesn't want to be here."
"What do you mean?" Anders felt a pang of jealousy as he recognized the fear and worry in his eyes.
Taking a deep breathe he continued. "Her mind has wandered deep into the fade. Its created a reality to help her cope with something, I am not sure what."
"What does this mean? Is this the cause of her amnesia?" Sebastian looked at him with a desperation he had never seen before. Another pang of jealousy ripped at his heart but he pushed in back. His feelings aside, they had to save Hawke.
"Yes. The reality has seeped out into her conscious mind. Probably as a result of her fall. But until she has come to realize which is her true reality," the mage shook his head accepting the defeat. " she is lost to us."
Sebastian looked at him, eyes wide. "Is there nothing we can do? You can do?" The archer begged him, anger and frustration egging him on. There had to be a solution.
"At this moment," Anders looked back at Lealia's unmoving body. Brushing her hair away from her eyes, he sighed and looked the prince back in his eyes.
"No."
She watched in silence as the nurse prodded and poked her. Taking blood, injecting medicine. it all seemed so tedious. She felt fine. Aside from the headache she seemed to have.
"Lea…"
She jerked her head up when she heard his voice. A smile spread across her face as he took a moment to look at her through the window.
Damien held flowers in his right hand and a teddy bear in his left. His face was beaming at her as the nurse finished doing what ever it was that she was mandated to do.
When she was finally finished she turned to Lealia and smiled softly, "Is there anything else that I can do for you, Ms. Hawke?"
"No, thank you."
Gathering her equipment, she left the room, giving Damien the ok to enter before she turned the corner.
"I am so glad you're ok." He kissed her forehead before setting down her gift. "I was so worried when the hospital called." His accent seemed thicker than normal. "What happened?"
She thought back to the dreams she had had while she was out cold. So much time seemed to have passed but in reality it had only been a couple of hours. Fighting the qunari, training with Sebastian, helping Isabella. What hadn't happened?
She smiled and looked up at him, "You know how clumsy I can be."
"Come to me."
"What?" she blinked her mind clear and stared up at her fiancé. "What did you say?"
He looked at her questioningly. "What are you talking about? I didn't say anything."
"…kirkwall… chaos… need you…" She caught on to the few words that she could before his voice faded again.
"Sebastian?" she whispered softly starring into Damien's eyes.
Anger flashed briefly in his eyes. "What was that?" he looked at her confusion clear on his features.
" I need you…"
Feared welled up in her heart. She could feel her breathe catch in her throat. What was happening? Why was she hearing these things? Dreaming these dreams?
"Get out." It came as a whisper first. Which only caused damien to be more confused.
"Get out!" she said more forcibly turning her face away from his.
She could feel his eyes watching her. When he spoke, she could hear the hurt in his voice. "fine. I'll be back later on then. " she felt him start to lean over, but he backed away thinking better of it. She heard the door click and by the time she had turned to look, he had turned the corner out of her view.
