Just as the words left Jon's mouth, they heard a crash from the streets above. Rumble tumbled down from somewhere as screams began to fill the air.
"JON! Collect the others and get them to Safety!" Anders grabbed his stave and ran for some potions on his self. "Do not come out till I come get you." The young boy gave a curt nod and disappeared through a hidden door. Anders moved to the front, stopping to look Lealia in the eye. "This is not training, Hawke." Lealia felt the gravity of the situation sink in. A flash a blue sparked within Anders's eyes and for a moment Lealia saw the spirit within.
She nodded and drew her blades. " I can do this."
Anders gave a nodded and took hold of his stave. "Follow me and stay close."
They hadn't meant any resistance on their way into LowTown . Anders had taken them up a back path connecting the docks and the alley by the alienage.
Peering around the corner, they scoped out the stairs leading to the above.
"Can you hear it?" The voice behind them startled Lealia. She almost reacted until the familiar figure of Aveline came into the light.
"The Qunari are attacking the city." Anders stated giving her a scrutinizing look. "Might you have anything to do with it?"
Aveline glared right back. "I did my job, which is more that can be said for you."
"Enough." Lea stepped between them. "We have more important things to deal with at the moment."
"The Qunari have spread out." Aveline began a recap of the situation. "The main force was on the docks, but they have since moved throughout the city. The majority of the army was headed toward High town, with small groups breaking off in areas." Lealia nodded
"We have to get to the Viscount. Protect who we can on the way." Lealia spoke as she began her trek up the stairs. "Anders." The mage looked to her. "Please focus on keeping us alive." The mage looked at her and she simply smiled. "Still not to confident with these." She held up her daggers. She had gotten a lot better, but it was nothing to like how she had acted before. What she wouldn't give for –
The arrow whizzed by her face before she could even register the attack. Wish a rush of magic, Anders knocked the archer back against the wall just as 8 more soldiers rounded the corner toward them. Aveline rushed the three on her right, catching two with her shield. She just barely caught the third, blocking his sword with her own before hitting him across the face and slashing his torso open.
"Aveline!" Lealia shouted to her just as the sword came down. Flipping backwards, she just barely had enough time to bring her daggers up in defense before the sword was down again. The daggers reacted to the hit, causing the Qunari to stagger back. She glanced back at Aveline to see the warrior occupied with the two warriors she had tackled earlier.
"AND-" She turned to the mage only to find him fighting what she thought was a Qunari mage.
Looking back to her attacker, she saw two more had joined his fight.
"Shit." Lealia held up her daggers and took stance just as the three came to charge. That's when she saw it. The body of the archer lie, bloodied on the floor just to the left of Anders.
She acted without a second thought. She launched up with all her force flipping over them as they charged. She land just behind the body, smiling. Quickly she grabbed the bow and knocked an arrow taking out the one on the left. She grabbed another, knocked it and aimed for the right.
But by the time she could knock the third arrow, The Qunari was already in front of her with his sword drawn. Dropping the arrow she held the bow up in what she knew was a useless defense. Just as she saw the blade knick the wood , the creature imploded before her, it's sword dropping with a loud clang.
"Staying out of trouble, I see."
Lealia felt her heart stop as the voice reached her ears. Looking to the stairs that led to Gamlen's hovel, She saw what she could only assume had been a ghost.
Bethany couldn't be here. Bethany was away. Far away in some unreachable place. It wasn't until She saw Stroud standing behind her that she knew it must be true.
"Beth?" Lealia dropped the bow and ran up the stairs to her sister. She took the younger girl into a tight embrace, fighting to hold back tears.
"Sister. Sister!" Beth laughed and pushed her was when Lealia took her in. Beth looked good, she looked more confident. Nothing like the delicate girl Lealia had grew up with. The women before her was a fighter.
"What are you doing here?"
"We were passing through just for the day when this happened." Beth Gestured to the carnage around them.
"Yes. You have our sincere thanks." Stroud spoke up "This attack was most unexpected.
"Passing through?" Lealia felt her sadness return. "You aren't staying?"
Bet shook her head. " We have other … matters to attend to." Curiosity perked up within her but she let the moment pass. "Beth about mother." Beth shook her head. "I know, sister."
"Bethany, we must go."
Bethany reached into her pocket and gave Lealia a small locket. "Another time, sister. Soon. I promise." With a final hug Bethany ran off with Stroud in the direction of the docks.
"Right." Lealia, wiped away her tears. "Time to be a big girl now."
