The demon fell to her knees before them, blood flowing steadily from her neck and chest. She had barely lifted her head to them before Sebastian's hand closed around her throat, dragging her back and slamming her against the wall behind them. The demon laughed, spitting out some blood in the process.
"You can kill me," she said in her smooth voice. "It won't change anything." Sebastian tightened his grip.
"What do you mean?" The desperation in his voice made the demon smile.
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
"Stop with the games, Demon!" Sebastian slammed her once more and her smile fell, replaced by a look of pain. "You came after Lealia for a reason. She is no mage, what use would she have been to you?!" The demon's smiled returned.
"No use at all. Not to me." The archer leaned in close.
"Who sent you," he growled, glaring at the naked creature in his grasp. "Who?" She looked away in thought then looked back up at him, her smile renewed.
"The Master gets what he wants," she whispered, "from me or from someone." She yanked one of Sebastian's throwing knives from his belt and plunged it into her own heart, taking her last breath as she slumped to the floor.
Sebastian backed away in disgust, looking down at the blood on his hand. Is this who I am now? Is this what I have become? Justice came up behind him, clapping a hand on his shoulder.
"You did well," he said as he motioned to the doorway, now shimmering with magic.
Lea's eyes fluttered open revealing the familiar canopy of her bed. Carefully she sat up, clutching her side as a small pain shot through her. She looked down to see bandages wrapped around her waist.
The Arishok. The Qunari. Everything started flooding back to her and for a moment she felt herself beginning to panic. She had been in the fade trying to escape these things. Now there was no escape.
"Lea!" She didn't even have time to react before Bella was wrapping her arms around her in a tight embrace. She winced at the pressure, causing the pirate to release her. "Shit, sorry." She glanced at the bandages to make sure they were fine before leaving the bedside to call for Orana. The tiny elven woman came into the room and immediately her eyes grew in surprise.
"Mistress! You are awake. I'll bring you some food and wine." She scurried out of the room leaving Bella and Lea alone again.
"Have Sebastian and Anders come back yet?" Lea asked as she looked around taking in her surroundings. Even now that she knew this was real, it all still felt like a dream to her.
"Not yet." Bella paused.
Lea felt her heart ease with relief. She does not remember much from her time being trapped, but she did remember what happened. She thought he was Damien. And she had used him to try and forget. How am I going to look at him after this? What if…
"Lea," Bella's voice broke her from her thoughts. "Listen-" Lea held up her hand and shook her head.
"I did what I did because you are my friend Bella." Bella's eyes widened, glistening.
"You almost bloody died! You expect me to just accept it?!" Lea couldn't recall the last time she had seen tears in her friend's eyes. Bella turned to the fire and shook her head. "That wasn't your fight, Hawke."
"It wasn't." She turned to Lea, tears falling freely.
"Then why?"
Lea smiled softly and removed the covers. Slowly moving her legs to the floor, she grabbed the bed post and pulled herself up.
Bella crossed the room and grabbed her elbow, steadying her. She pushed the pirate's arm away, letting the dizzy spell pass as she attempted to stand up straight. Her body screamed in protest making her hiss in pain but she couldn't stay in that bed any longer. Looking Bella in the eye she sighed.
"You are my friend, Bella, and friends are all I have left in this world. I plan to keep the ones that are here."
Sebastian opened his eyes. He was back in the manor in the room they had used for the ritual. Slowly, he tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness crashed over him, leaving him leaning back on his elbows as he let the feeling pass.
"Oh!" Merrill entered the room to see him just as he managed to right himself. "You're awake! Hawke will be glad!" The tiny elf hurried to his side. Beside him Anders began to stir.
The elf sent a wave of magic from her hands, moving them over Sebastian in an attempt to find any contamination from the fade within him. Even though he had been warned about this, he couldn't help the uneasy feeling he was having at the moment.
"Lealia is awake," he asked hoping to change his thoughts.
"Yes, she has been for quite some time. She and Bella are upstairs in her room." Her hands fell and she smiled at him.
"How do you feel? The Keeper warned you about the side effects of the journey but I know you've never been to the fade like the rest of us."
"I am fine. Just hungry."
"And wine. Please bring wine." Anders groaned from the corner.
"Let me go get the Keeper. She wants to speak with you before she leaves."
Merrill left the room leaving the men alone.
"I am sorry, Vael," Anders spoke from his bed, barely moving, draping his arm over his eyes.
"I will pretend I know what you're speaking of and accept your apology." Sebastian took a deep breath. "Thank you. For your help." He saw the mage turn his head under his arm to look at him. "You were right." Anders looked confused. "This was not something I could have done on my own and for your help I thank you." Anders sighed.
"Are you sure it should be me you are thanking?" He fell back on to his pillow and stared at the ceiling. "I told you I would not lose control and I lost control. Justice was the one who helped you, not me."
Sebastian thought for a moment of what to say without sounding crass but before he could respond the door opened and Marethari walked in.
