Chapter 42: Rescued
Lily was thrown back into the wall; she winced from the pain. Slowly she opened her eyes as pain flooded through her body. She slowly stood up and looked for James, but her eyes didn't spot him anywhere. Panic filled her; she had to find him. Suddenly Remus was in front of her.
"It's alright," he muttered. "James is fine. Sirius is with him. Here."
Lily looked down at his hand. Her wand lay there. Quickly she grabbed it. She didn't care if her head was pounding. She was going to be ok and they were all going to get out of this.
"She was dragged into the other room," Lily told Remus.
"Which way?" he asked.
Lily made her way through the room pressing herself against the wall of the crumbling building. She made sure to block all spells shot her way. Eventually they made their way around to the room she had been taken. There in the middle of the floor lay an unconscious Dorcas, probably forgotten by Bellatrix when the wall was blown open.
Remus was by her side in an instant. He waved his wand over her face and she was slowly opened her eyes. She smiled slightly, but otherwise didn't move.
"We've got to get her out of here," Lily said.
Remus nodded. "Let's get going. Cover me?"
He lifted Dorcas up into his arms as her eyes closed.
Lily nodded. "Do they have Apparition Wards?"
"Not anymore," Remus told her.
Lily nodded before grabbing his hand and turning on the spot. They landed at the Alice and Frank's house, one of the safe houses. They were safe. Alice came running out of the house to meet them. She looked relieved and worried at the same time.
"Are you ok?" Alice asked, looking between Lily, Dorcas, and Remus.
"She needs to lie down and rest," Lily told Alice. "They probably used the Cruciatus Curse on her."
"Right," Alice nodded. "Let's get her inside."
"You go on. I'm going back to look for James," Lily said.
"You can't," Remus told her. "You don't know where you were."
"Tell me."
"No."
"Why?!"
"Because I'm not risking you getting hurt."
"But James-"
"Can take care of himself. Besides he has Sirius and Karen to help him."
James smiled as Sirius handed him his wand. He'd never been so happy to see someone in his whole life. Sirius offered him his hand and James pulled himself up.
"Where's Lily?" James asked.
"Moony's with her," Sirius told him. "Don't worry. They're going to get Doe and get out."
James sighed. "Good. Now let's kick some Death Eater arse!"
Sirius grinned. "Let's go."
They ran into the thick of the battle, both blasting Death Eaters with curses and blocking spells that came their way. They worked in union. James blasted a Death Eater and Sirius blocked a curse that was coming at him. James nodded to him and continued to throw curses at Death Eaters. After a while, Karen run up to them.
"Guys, we have to get out of here," she hissed. "There's too many. More than we thought there would be anyway. Come on, we have to go."
James nodded. "Let's go."
He grabbed her hand and she grabbed Sirius'. James cast a smoke charm and Apparated.
Lily paced Alice's house, looking out the window every few seconds. Where was James? What was taking him so long? Shouldn't he should be back by now right? There was a pop and Frank appeared. He was limping a bit. Alice had run out the door and hugged him already. Lily followed slowly, to give them some space.
"Are you ok?" Lily inquired nodding to his leg.
"Yeah," Frank nodded. "I just got hit with a Stinging Jinx, nothing that can't be easily fixed."
Lily smiled. "Alright."
There was another pop and Lily looked around. James, Sirius, and Karen stood a few feet away. Lily sprinted over to them and wrapped her arms around James. He encircled her pulling her as close as he could. Lily buried her face in his chest taking it all in. She never wanted to leave the safety of his arms. It felt like it would protect her from the world. The weight of everything that had happened fell upon her.
"Lily," James muttered softly, "you're shaking."
"Sorry," Lily mumbled.
James shook his head. "It's fine. Are you ok?"
Lily nodded. "Yeah, I was just worried about you."
"I'm fine," James told her. "We're all ok."
Lily pulled away from him to see that everyone had gone inside. She grabbed his hand and started for the house. They were ok. They were ok.
James sighed as he bent down and looked at the remains of their house. It was damaged, that was for sure. It shouldn't take too long to repair, but it probably wouldn't be safe. They needed to find a charm that would protect them, in case Death Eaters tried to attack them again. James sighed and stood up.
"It's a mess," Sirius mumbled.
James nodded. "I know. It's going take a bit to clean it up."
"I can help you if you want," Sirius told him.
"Thanks, mate," James smiled. "But you don't have to."
"Of course we'll help you," Remus said. "We aren't going to let you do it by yourself."
"Yeah, we're Marauders, remember?" Peter squeaked.
James smiled. "Yeah, forever."
James slipped into Alice's house that night. Alice and Frank had agreed to let them stay here until they could rebuild and make their house safe. James couldn't be more thankful to them. He was so relieved Lily would be safe. He sighed with relief when he saw she wasn't in the living room waiting for him. He had been with Sirius, Remus, and Peter all day and didn't get back until late that night. He was glad she was finally sleeping again. She hadn't slept well since they had been captured.
He walked into the kitchen to get a drink before going to bed. When he got there, he saw Lily with her back turned to him gripping the counter. James sighed before going behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.
"What are you still doing up?" he asked.
"I'm pregnant."
A/N: First, I know this is a crappy chapter, but I really wanted to post it. Second, bombshell! I know Lily didn't show any signs that she was pregnant, but I didn't want her to. In every fic that I've read it's always easy to guess if she's pregnant so I wanted to make it a surprise. Anyways, review!
