A/N: Hey guys sorry for the long wait, but life got in the way of my writing. Anyways I won't keep you from the story any longer.

Chapter 45: The Wedding

Lily had been very hormonal for the past few months and James was a bit worried. She had cried when she couldn't decide on what her wedding dress should look like, screamed at him when he'd asked her if she wanted breakfast one morning, and glared out the window most of the time.

Now it was their wedding day, and James couldn't imagine what she was like. He didn't envy Karen and Dorcas right now.

As he was trying to fix his bow tie, Sirius popped into the room. "How are you, mate?"

James blew out a breath. "A little nervous."

"Not thinking of jumping ship are you?" Sirius joked.

James glared at him. "No. Ugh. Stupid, bloody tie."

"James, do you want help?" Sirius asked amused.

"No," James pouted.

"Probably does," Remus said from the doorway. "You know he can't do those things on his own."

"Yeah, he could barely get his tie on at Hogwarts," Peter quipped, slipping into the room.

"Shut up and help me with this stupid thing," James muttered.

"Alright don't get your knickers in a twist," Sirius muttered moving over to him.

"What if it doesn't fit?" Lily asked, her lip trembling.

"Then we'll use a charm," Dorcas told her. "You're not that big at all Lily."

Lily nodded before turning to look at herself in the mirror. Her dress was covered in lace. It had a ribbon tied around the middle. It had no back except where it hooked at the top. The sweetheart neckline revealed just enough of her cleavage. The bottom fanned out into a small train. Lily loved it to pieces; she just hoped it fit.

"It's fine, Lily," Dorcas assured her. "It will fit."

Lily nodded slowly as Dorcas zipped up and buttoned the dress. It fit beautifully. Lily smiled and turned around, looking at herself in the mirror. She really loved the dress and hoped James liked it.

"Lily, you look gorgeous," Dorcas breathed.

"I never thought I'd say this, but you're glowing," Karen told her.

"Are you ready then?" a voice asked from the doorway.

The girls turned around to see Remus standing there. He had agreed to walk Lily down the aisle since her father couldn't be there. Lily felt tears prick the back of her eyes. She really wished he was; she had always dreamed about her father walking her down the aisle.

Remus smiled at her sadly. He'd lost a parent as well.

"Are you ready?" Dorcas asked.

Lily nodded, smiling. The gathering was small, just their close friends, and Lily wouldn't have had it any other way.

Remus took her arm and helped her down the stairs. Lily stopped at the bottom holding him back.

"Remus, what if this is a mistake?" Lily asked.

"What are you talking about, Lily?" Remus replied.

"What if this whole wedding was a mistake?" Lily stressed. "What if we're only getting married because of a baby?"

"You're not," Remus told her calmly. "You love James, don't you?"

Lily nodded. "Well, of course I love him."

"I know he loves you. He would have married you even if you weren't pregnant. He loves you Lily."

Lily nodded then sighed. "I'm ready, let's go."

Remus nodded and they headed toward the backyard.

James heard the music start to play and watched as each of the bridesmaids came down the aisle. It wasn't a large number of people, just a few friends from the Order. James would have liked it to a big wedding, but there was a war going on and they really didn't have time for that. This was just as good, he supposed, but he wanted to shout the whole world that he was marrying the woman he loved.

Lily had started to come down the aisle with Remus. She looked beautiful, and James couldn't take his eyes off of her. She was truly glowing. She looked at him through her lashes as she came closer. He couldn't keep the grin off his face as she stood next to him. This was it. He was getting married.

Lily rested her head against James' shoulder. The ceremony had gone perfectly. She couldn't have asked for a better wedding. Now she was sitting with her husband, (she would never get tired of calling James that), and they were quite content to watch their guests.

There was clinking of glass and both their heads snapped toward it. Sirius was standing up next to them.

"Alright, everyone listen up!" Sirius called attracting attention. "It's time for my speech as best man. Now where do I begin? Lily, you couldn't have picked a better man to marry. He's one of the bravest and most loyal people I know. He faced Voldemort and didn't bat an eye and ran into dozens of battles with Death Eaters. He took me in when I didn't have a place to go. He took care of all of us, all three of us, and without him we wouldn't be who we are today, none of us. He changes everyone he meets, I know he changed me, might have changed Lily a little bit too.

"And, James, don't ever take her for granted. She's a very kind, loving woman. She sees the light in people even, and most especially, when others can't see it in themselves. She was never afraid to call us out on our antics. I can't say I was very excited when you two got together. I was afraid when you two started dating that you'd take my best friend away from me, but I was wrong. You complete him, Lily, always have, always will. Here's to James and Lily, here's to the stag and his doe."

Lily was wiping at her eyes by the end of his speech. She couldn't believe she was crying in public. The only person she cried in front of was James. Even her friends didn't see her cry. Now she felt like bawling her eyes out. Stupid Sirius and his stupid speech.

"You did that to make me cry, you prat," Lily mumbled smacking Sirius lightly on the chest.

Sirius smirked. "Now don't be so mean, sis."

That did it for Lily. She threw her arms around Sirius' neck and buried her face in his shirt. Sirius' arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her tightly against him. Lily did think of Sirius as a brother now. He was so close to James and when they started dating it took a while for Sirius to warm up to her, but when he did, they became quite close. Now she couldn't imagine life without him.

When Lily finally pulled away from Sirius, she realized everyone else in the room was sniffing and wiping their eyes with napkins or handkerchiefs. James kissed her forehead and gave Sirius a hug. Lily smiled at them.

"Alright, you two, go have your first dance," Sirius urged them.

James held his hand out to Lily and she took it. They walked out to the dance floor. James pulled her tightly to him and she rested her head on his chest.

"Did you ever think this day would come?" Lily asked quietly.

"What day?" James replied.

"Our wedding day," Lily answered. "It feels like it was forever ago that we left Hogwarts. We could have died along the way."

"Hey, we didn't so it's nothing to worry about," James told her. "Besides you don't want to be sad on our wedding day, do you?"

Lily shook her head. "No. Let's just be happy."

"I'll always be happy, as long as I'm with you," James said as he buried his face in her hair.

"It feels so empty," Lily stated as she and James stood in the living room of their house in Godric's Hollow.

"That problem will be taken care of soon, won't it?" James replied, placing a hand on her stomach.

The reception to their wedding was over and James was quite pleased with how it turned out. Pulling Lily to him, he buried his face in her hair. He felt her sigh against him.

"You know, I don't look the same as I did before," Lily told him as his hands went to unbutton the fasten on her dress.

"What do you mean?" James asked pulling back to look into her eyes.

"Just that my body isn't just mine anymore-"

"You mean sex would hurt the baby?" James interrupted wide-eyed.

Lily rolled her eyes. "No, I just mean that I have someone sharing my body and I don't look-"

"I could care less, if you stayed that way forever," James laughed lightly, "I'd still love you, Lily."

"Are you sure about that?" Lily asked narrowing her eyes.

"You really don't think I'm that shallow do you?"

"No, now get back to what you were doing," Lily told him. "Or else I might be forced to go upstairs all by myself."

"We can't have that now, can we?" James grinned before picking her up.

"James!" she shrieked. "You're not carrying me up those stairs."

"I beg to differ," James said before starting up the stairs.

"If we die, I blame you," Lily mumbled as she buried her face in his neck.

"Alright, we're here, Mrs. Potter," James told her triumphantly when they reached the top of the steps.

"You're not going to get tired of saying that are you?" Lily asked.

"Nope," James replied popping the 'p'.

"I love you," Lily stated then added, "Mr. Potter."

James grinned. "And I love you, Mrs. Potter."

He walked into the bedroom and kicked the door shut.
