Nearly a month with no update? Damn I've been off my game lately. Well to make it up to you all I bring you the next installment of Fidelis being Fidelis, with fifty percent extra Clef. Enjoy.
"Nick! Nick!" Clef called loudly as he walked along the path in Beacons courtyard. He was in the middle of telling Nick and his girlfriend Iris the story of how he got himself capture and worshiped as a god by a tribe of cannibals on an island off the coast of Menagerie, when Nick said he and Iris needed to go grab something from their room quickly. As he walked he didn't notice a pair of bushes shaking slightly.
"Is he gone?" Iris whispered to Nick from their hiding place.
"I don't know, lets give it another minute." He replied.
Clef on the other hand continued walking while calling Nicks name. After about ten more minutes Clef came to a conclusion. "He must have figured that went to get something to eat and is at the food stands waiting for me." Just as he was about to begin making his way towards the food stalls he noticed a commotion coming from a bit aways and got slightly interested. Once he got a look at what was going on his eyes widened, Winter Schnee was not more the thirty feet away doing battle with a man wielding am impressive looking sword.
The battle was brief and fought with great skill and grace until it was interrupted by none other than the head of the Atlas military, General James Ironwood. "Everyone break it up, we'll take care of this." Professor Goodwitch called out to the crowd as Winter began following the General to the tower and Clef decided to say hello.
"I never would have expected such childish behavior from you Schnee, I-" James was interrupted by the sound of a guitar being strummed.
"My eyes have grown weary from the horrors of this world and were on the verge of going blind out of despair, until a vision of beauty shined light upon their darkness. Oh fairest of maidens I beg of you, give this wanderers heart a boon and show me your smile." Clef strummed his guitar again for dramatic effect.
Winter stood frozen in place as Ironwood looked between the man on his knees behind her with a guitar and Winter standing stock still looking like she'd seen a ghost. "Schnee, do you know this man?" He asked as Weiss walked up to the group joining the on lookers.
Winter slowly turned around and looked down at Clef who was still on his knees and for some reason now had a rose in his mouth. "Clef? What are you doing here?" She asked as reality hit her and she began trying to fix her hair of any imperfections and wipe away any dust from her clothes.
Clef in a blur appeared at her side and held her hand in his before placing a kiss upon it, this caused the extremely formal Schnee to practically melt and turn into a blushing school girl. "I am merely following the winds of fate my dear, though it seems fate has blessed me with running into you again."
"Schnee, who is this man?" Ironwood asked again.
Winter coughed and tried to force her blush under control as she turned to her superior. "General Ironwood, this is Clef Alto my fiance." This actually brought on a slight look of surprise to Ironwood.
"Fiance!?" Weiss called out from the crowd and rushed forward. "I thought you said you and her were broken up!" She shouted at Clef.
"No my dear Weiss, I said that we were separated and that I still care for her deeply." He corrected.
"The fact that your engaged is still a VERY large thing to leave out!" Weiss shouted still angry however Clef wasn't paying attention and was instead sharing a silent moment between him and Winter.
"Where have you been? After our fight you disappeared without telling me where you went. I had several of Atlas's best intelligence agents out looking for you for several weeks! I was scared I'd never see you again." Winter was going to say more before Clef place his finger to her lips.
"Winter my love, no force on Remnant could keep me from you forever." After saying this he placed his lips to hers and dipped her backwards causing many in the crowd to start cheering.
"Winter, I apologize for interrupting this reunion between you and your fiance, but we do have business to attend to." Ironwood said clearly not completely sure how to handle the situation.
Winter straightened herself up. "Yes sir, my apologies." She said saluting the general, then turning back to Clef. "This is the key to the room I will be staying in, we will catch up when I get off work." She said handing him a key card.
"I will count the seconds my love." He strummed the guitar again.
Weiss walked up next to him as Winter and Ironwood made their way to the tower. "I've never seen my sister act that way before." She said still in awe at how her sister was acting around the eccentric man. "Wait, does this mean your my brother now?"
"Not until the wedding dear girl." Clef said with a laugh as he began walking towards Winter room. Along the way he pulled out his scroll and called Nick. After a moment his cousin answered.
"Yes Clef?" He sounded slightly annoyed but Clef didn't seem to notice.
"I'm afraid I will not be returning to yours and Iris's company tonight. I have others to entertain, my apologies." He said sounding remorseful.
"REALLY!? I mean thats great, I'm glad to hear that your with friends. Take your time and have fun. PLEASE feel free to spend as much time with them as possible." The line soon went dead and Clef smiled to himself.
"That boy sure is a considerate one." He said putting his scroll away.
The Next Day
"What do you mean you can't find him?!" Kain shouted into his scroll.
"I mean I can't find him, which means he doesn't want to be found right now." Rideat replied through the device. "My brother is an idiot but definitely not stupid. If he doesn't want to be found then you won't find him. The best thing for you to do right now is calm down and just wait until your next match, theres no way he'd miss a chance at high level combat."
"So you want me to just sit back while a known killer walks around without any supervision in a crowded arena with thousands of people?" Kain asked sounding angry.
On the other side of the call Rideat was becoming angry at how Kain was talking about Fidelis. "Tell me kid, if Fide were to go on a rampage right now right in front of you would would you be able to do?" Kain was quiet as he tried to find his answer. "Exactly, you couldn't do anything. Fidelis would beat your ass into the ground faster than you could draw you weapons. The only reason he even hangs around you is because he feel a responsibility to look out for you because of what he did. Stop acting like your his jailer and wise up!" The call then went dead leaving a stunned Kain.
Kain clenched his fists as he ran through what Rideat had just said to him in his head again. Kain put away his scroll and went back to his seat next to Ruby, though the girl was absent. In fact the only member of the team present was Blake. "What did he do?" She asked him.
"Who?"
"Fidelis, he's the only person I know of who can make someone that angry." She explained gesturing to the small amount of blood falling from the corner of his mouth from where he was biting his lip.
Kain wiped the blood away. "Nothing, I'm just angry over how much stronger he is then me. As well as the fact that Rideat has no problem with letting that maniac run around freely in a place with so many innocent people." He sighed in frustration as Blake nodded. "How exactly do you know him?" He asked realizing that it was odd that she knew enough about Fidelis to know how much he likes pissing people off.
Blake paused for a moment, then she seemed to decide upon something in her head. "I've worked with him on several occasions, but thats in the past." She explained to him as he realized the implications of what she said. "Don't feel bad about being weaker than him either, he is incredibly powerful. He's a monster in battle like nothing I've ever seen, and whats even scarier is that he isn't at his peak yet. As much as I hate him for everything I know he's done, for the fact that he is a prime example of everything that is wrong with the Fang, I can say with a large amount of certainty that he's not going to hurt any innocent people on a whim."
"But how do you KNOW that he won't?" He asked still not completely convinced.
Blake sighed. "Fidelis has a code that he sticks by as little as its worth in light of all that he's done, but regardless in all the years I've known him he has never broken it. He doesn't hurt children, or non-combatants. That man has haunted my nightmares for a long time after some of the things I've seen him do, which is why it's so weird to know that he probably doesn't even want to be the way he is himself. I don't actually you much about his past though I think Ruby might, she said that he talked to her a while back and ever since she's been far more sympathetic towards him, but one thing I can say is that the look in his eyes is the same as that of some of the young children that I have seen join the Fang after having everything taken from them. Kids whose entire lives have been nothing but a living hell and made them into the monsters the Fang is now made of."
"Hey guys, did I miss anything?!" Ruby shouted as she sat down in her seat next to Kain.
"No, your right on time." Blake answered as she looked out into the arena where Weiss and Yang had entered the ring along with their opponents. Kain knew that their conversation was pretty much over but he was still left with a lot to think about.
"Hey are you okay?" Ruby asked him grabbing his hand when she saw the look on his face.
Kain looked at the girl who had quickly become one of the most important people is his life and soon smiled back. "Yeah I'm fine."
Elsewhere
Fidelis sat in a large arm chair in the VIP section looking out over the arena, he was wearing his full White Mask outfit which included his mask, this had made it far more difficult to get to this room without anyone noticing him than it needed to be. A little help from Neo however did make it possible.
He watched the fight that had just begun between Yang, Weiss and the two from Atlas. To be honest he was really digging the guys weapon of choice. As he watched he heard the door to the room open and close rather quickly and when he glanced at who had entered he saw the one who had invited him up in the first place.
"Good, I was worried you wouldn't come. I have a proposition I want to run by you Fidelis." Ozpin asked as he made sure the door was locked before making his way to the seat next to Fidelis's overlooking the arena.
Fidelis looked back at the fight. "Well Ozy, you got my attention."
Ozpin chuckled at this answer. "Good, then I'll explain."
