Hi there! Today I have combined a request from a guest, who requested a story with all four brothers, and a sequel to one of the previous stories. Y'all remember chapter 9, about Don's coffee addiction? Well, let's take things up a notch... I proudly present to you: the 'rehab'. Have fun ;-)
Coffee Rehab
It was a pretty slow day, judging by the fact that Splinter and Leo were quietly meditating in the dojo, Don was tinkering with some stuff in his lab, and Raph and Mikey were watching tv. Nothing really happened and all of them were rather content with that.
In front of the tv, Mikey stretched his arms out, accompanied by a loud yawn.
"Jeez, Mike, watch where ya put those," Raph said annoyed, pushing his brother's arms back, which almost had slapped him in the face. Mikey smiled innocently. "Oops, sorry." He put his hands in his neck, sat up straight and started stretching his back.
"Fer cryin' out loud. Can't ya sit still fer a freakin' minute?"
Mikey stopped mid-stretch, giving his brother a frown. "But I just did. We watched this kinda lame movie for the past two hours and I didn't move at all!"
Raph snorted. "That's what you think. You've been fidgetin' for the last hour non-stop, numbskull." He huffed and turned his head back to the tv. "And Core of the Demon II is not a lame movie. It's a classic!"
Mikey lowered his arms and sank back in the cushions. "Yeah, right. In what universe?" he said jokingly, immediately receiving a firm smack on the back of his head. "Ouch! What you did that for?"
"Fer sayin' stupid things," Raph said, crossing his arms in front of his chest satisfied, while his brother pouted and rubbed his head. "What happened to freedom of speech?"
"That doesn't apply to ya."
"The only thing that doesn't apply to me is this movie," Mikey said as he pointed at the tv screen. "I can't believe they actually made seven parts!"
"Then you don't watch, knucklehead!" Raph snapped. Mikey looked at him in slight disbelief. "But I wanna watch!"
Frustrated, Raph closed his eyes and exhaled loudly. "Just make up yer freakin' mind," he said dangerously slow as he pressed the pause button on the remote.
"If I stop now I've wasted two hours of my day," Mikey started.
"It's not a waste!" countered his brother. "If ya don't like it, leave it!"
"Dude! I can't believe you can watch this for so long. Three hours of crappy special effects, ugly masks and costumes, extremely fake blood, a very weird plot line and really bad actors… And you're saying something about my taste in movies," Mike finished with a grin. In response Raph sat up straight, balling his fist threateningly. "Keep goin', Mike, and I give ya a taste of my knuckles."
Instead of being startled, Mikey started to laugh. He opened his mouth to say something, until he heard some movement behind him. Curiously he turned around, looking right in Don's face. "Hey, bro!" he greeted his genious brother, who squinted his weary eyes as he wanted to block out some light.
"Wow, Donnie, ya look like crap," Raph commented, as he looked his younger brother over. "You feel alright?"
Don yawned. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit tired, I guess." He gave a heavy sigh. "If it's not too much trouble, could you guys keep it down just a little?" He ran his hand over his face while closing his eyes.
"Sure, bro," Raph answered. "Ya sure yer doin' okay?"
"Yep, just tired. So I'm gonna get some more coffee. Can I bring something from the kitchen for you guys?" Don asked politely with a small smile.
"Just stop with tha freakin' coffee and go to bed if yer tired," Raph mumbled annoyed.
"Nah, we're cool. Just take it easy." Mikey cut in quickly, giving a smile back as Don nodded. "Thanks, will do." With that he walked into the kitchen.
Raph shook his head. "Idiot."
"Dude, don't be so mean. He just needs to adjust to a new style of living, that's all," Mikey said with an amused smile on his face. Raph looked at him questionably. "Whatcha mean?"
"Well…" Mikey started. "I also thought Donnie was drinking too much coffee. I mean, his blood is probably pure caffeine."
"Yeah, that's what we're sayin' for the past year to 'im," Raph agreed. Mikey nodded. "So, I kinda put him on a coffee rehab," he finished with an innocent smile. Raph raised an eye ridge. "But he's still drinkin' tha stuff," he said as he jammed his thumb in the direction of the kitchen. Again Mikey nodded. "True… But I replaced his regular coffee with the decaf version," he explained, hoping his brother would agree with his approach. Raph looked at him in slight disbelief. "So, does Don knows he's drinkin' decaf?"
Mikey shook his head with a fake guilty expression. "Nope, he has no clue. Now I hope he just gets a somewhat regular sleeping pattern, like a normal turtle."
Raph barked out a muffled laugh and leaned back in the cushions. "How long is he already on this… rehab?"
Mikey thought for a minute. "Like almost two weeks now. And he's getting better. I see him more asleep at nights than I ever saw him before," he said with a proud smile. "And guess what… He's even using his bed more often than his desk chair."
Raph snickered at that comment and he put his arms casually over the back of the couch. "Sounds good, although a bit drastic."
"Hey, desperate things call for desperate measures," Mikey answered with a shrug. Raph nodded smirking. "Doesn't mean I don't approve."
Suddenly they heard Don come back from the kitchen with a cup of steaming coffee in his hand. "So, what are you guys doing?" he asked and he took a sip. Raph shrugged. "Watchin' a good movie," he said, with a glance to his youngest brother. Mikey scowled. "It's a slightly okay movie," he countered before turning to Don. "Wanna join us?"
Don thought for a bit. "Why not. For some reason I can't focus on my projects anyway." He looked at his open lab door, as Raph and Mike exchanged an all-knowing grin. Shaking his head, Don walked around the couch and sat down in between his two brothers who just made some room for him. Immediately he let out a big yawn, which he was unable to stifle.
"You wanna hear the backstory of this awesome movie?" Mike said, with a mocking tone to the adjective. Don grinned as he heard his older brother grunt. "I guess it's not necessary."
"Alrighty then!" Mike said happily before Raph could say anything and he took the remote and pressed play. For some time the brothers watched in silence. An hour later the credits started rolling and Raph loosened his neck. "Sweet movie," he said with a grunt. Mikey spat out a laugh. "I guess it was kinda boring."
"Boring? Don't start again, Mike!" Raph warned, but got quiet as soon as he followed Mike's gaze. There he saw Don fast asleep, head hanging loosely on his chest, breathing in and out quietly.
"I'll be damned," Raph said with a smirk. "Good call with that coffee, Mikey," he praised the youngest. Mike looked up to his brother with a matching grin by the rare praise. "Thanks! Now let's hope it will help on the long run."
"Yeah, we'll see. Fer now I guess it's workin'," Raph said quietly, watching his immediate younger brother closely, seeing the worn-out expression on his sleeping face. "Let 'im rest fer now."
"Sure thing," Mikey said quietly as he got up. "I'll get a blanket."
Watching his brother walk away, Raph also got up and tried as gently as he could to let Don lie down on the couch. Satisfied for not waking his brother, he sighed and put his hands on his hips, not really knowing what to do next. He jerked his head up when he heard footsteps coming towards him.
"Hey Raph. What are you doing?" Leo asked, walking into the living room. Immediately Raph put a finger on his lips. "Quiet! Don's asleep."
"On the couch? That's a new one." Curious Leo leaned over the back of the couch, seeing indeed a sleeping brother. Surprised he looked at Raph, his eyes demanding an explanation. "How did this happen?"
"We, eh, were watching a movie," Raph answered awkwardly. Leo frowned questionably. "Don watched a movie and fell asleep on the couch?"
"Yeah."
Both of them were quiet, until Leo's curiosity got the upper hand. "Alright, it is one thing for Donnie to fall asleep in a place that is not his bed, but most of the times that is at night and in his lab. Knowing Don he doesn't sit around for a movie about -" His head whipped to the tv, where the title screen of the dvd had appeared. "-demons?" He raised an eye ridge, but didn't ask further. Raph inhaled deeply, searching for words. "Well, he said he couldn't focus on his work cuz he was tired."
"I noticed that for the past days. Is he sick?" Leo asked as he looked back to his sleeping brother. Raph shook his head. "No, he's just tired. It's tha coffee..."
Leo's eyes widened in realisation. "Please tell me he cut back on the stuff," he said hopefull. Raph grinned. "Yes and no," he started, seeing Leo's expression change to a waiting look.
"Alright, here's tha story. Like you and I, Mike also thought Don drank too much coffee. Two weeks ago he changed the regular coffee to decaf and ever since Don is having -" He searched for the right words. "- withdrawal symptoms, I guess."
Leo thought Raph's words over. "That's not even a bad idea," he concluded.
"What's not a bad idea?" Mikey whispered as he came back into the living room, carrying a thick blanket. Both Leo and Raph turned to him. "Your idea apparently," Leo said with a smile, which was answered by a broad, proud smile back. "We just have to keep an extra eye on him," he continued while nodding at Donnie.
"As always," Raph answered with a grin as Mikey laid the blanket over his brother. They all tensed up when Donnie started mumbling and shifting in his sleep, grabbing the blankets practically out of Mikey's hands and put them up to his chin. Mikey started to giggle at the sight. "That's so adorable. We should totally tape this."
"Can it, Mike. Let tha brainiac sleep," Raph whispered, as he started to push Leo and Mikey way from the couch. Together they walked away quietly from the living room, giving Don all the stillness he needed for a well-deserved sleep.
I hope you liked the somewhat longer story.
