LadySongBird16 and I hope all of our readers like this newest chapter. Now that Jade is the heir and Zyon is dead the characters will hopefully go through some growth. Chapter 15
A few days later Jade did come out of her room, but only so she could go to work; but shortly after that the J team, Daolon Wong, and the Demon sorcerers didn't see a single sign of Jade, or Amber and Violet for that matter. It was all getting very suspicious. So one day when they were walking through the one of the many halls of the palace when they saw Dante and Mark walking right toward them. Dante was holding a strange looking box in his hand.
"What are you two doing?" Jackie questioned.
"We're incinerating this gift like Jade asked us too." Dante declared.
"Who exactly did she get a gift from?" Viper questioned.
"From Tarakudo." Mark replied.
"Why would he want to send her a gift?" Paco asked.
"Hatcha! Isn't it obvious? Tarakudo wins Jade over with nice things and she agrees to be Queen of the shadowkhan again!" Uncle exclaimed.
"Not exactly." Dante replied.
"What do you mean by that; and where are the other two girls?" Tohru asked.
"All the girls are in one of their suites hiding. They won't tell us which one they're in, but they told us that they'd be hiding." Mark declared.
"Hiding from what? What foolish thing is there to hide from in Hell?" Drago asked.
"It's mating season. They usually hide every year when it comes around." Mark stated.
"What exactly is mating season?" El Toro asked.
"Well, as you all know, as reapers, we aren't known for having a long lifespan; therefore, there's a need for us and other Hellians to produce children, so if necessary they can someday takes our places. So every spring the male citizens of Hell try to court a female of their choice." Dante stated.
"That sounds normal enough to us." Tso Lan said.
"Well, there's actually more to it. Before a male can even attempt to court a female he needs to defeat her champion." Mark stated.
"Champion?" Jackie questioned.
"A champion is another male that a female selects to, "help her" make a decision on what men she should allow to try and court her." Mark declared.
"And how exactly do they do that?" Viper asked.
"Well, the interested male first needs to defeat the lady's champion in a fight, but they can only fight the champion if they agree to the fight." Dante stated.
"So I'm guessing that that shadowkhan would be Jade's champion in this case?" Shendu questioned.
"Yes, Mamoru is Jade's champion." Mark replied.
"There's one thing I'm not getting though. If a guy has to face her champion before he can start courting her, then why is Tarakudo sending her gifts?" Paco questioned.
"Do you honestly think Tarakudo would follow those rules? He just keeps sending gifts, and Jade keeps ordering us to get rid of all of them." Dante declared.
"Yeah, so far we've thrown away roses covered in real blood, chocolates, and several love poems." Mark declared.
"Wait did you say roses covered in real blood?" Viper questioned.
"Yes, this leads us to believe that they were actually white roses in the beginning." Mark stated.
"Why would anybody be into that?" Paco questioned.
"Look at where we are boy. Do you think that would be that unusual?" Daolon Wong said.
"So what exactly is in that box?" Jackie asked.
"I honestly don't know. Jade just had Mamoru give me the box and he told me she wants me to incinerate it." Dante stated.
"Well, do you think she'd care if you let us see what is inside the box? You're going to incinerate it anyway." Tohru declared.
"Well, I guess not." Dante said opening the box.
Inside the box was an enormous red jewel that looked like it could have been worth billions of dollars if it existed back on earth.
"Woah!" Paco exclaimed.
"I do admit that is quite a jewel." Daolon Wong said.
"Yes, why would the girl not want it?" Po Kong added.
"Because it came from Tarakudo; do you people ever listen?" Dante said annoyed.
Dante then proceed down to the end of the hall and opened a small door in the wall, inside all everyone else saw was fire. Dante threw the jewel inside and it was gone within a nanosecond.
"Are you crazy, boy? That jewel could have had some sort of mysterious powers!" Uncle yelled.
"Chill out old man. Even if it did Jade would have just told us to destroy the damn thing anyway." Mark chuckled.
"Are you sure that's what Jade wanted?" Jackie questioned.
"Holy shit you people don't believe anything we say. Look, if it makes you feel any better I'll call Jade right now, and confirm it with her that it's what she wanted done." Dante stated.
So Dante pulled out his phone and dialed Jade's number.
"Hey Jade." Dante said.
"…"
"I'm well aware that you're all in the middle of hiding right now, but I need to ask you something." Dante declared.
"…"
"You know that box that Tarakudo sent you?" Dante asked.
"…"
"Well, it turns out there was a jewel in it." Dante stated.
"…"
"Yeah, a pretty big red jewel." Dante replied.
"…"
"Yeah, I didn't think that that would make a difference. Anyway, what are you guys doing?" Dante asked.
"…"
"Well yeah, I know that, but are you doing anything fun?" Dante questioned.
"…"
"Aaaaw man, you're doing that without us?" Dante complained.
"…"
"We can play it later, but I thought you girls weren't going to tell us where you are?" Dante asked.
"…"
"Right, okay, see you later than." Dante said hanging up the phone.
"See, she clearly doesn't care about the stupid jewel." Dante stated.
"Not that it would matter, it's gone now. I would have had her tell one of you directly but she and the other were getting ready to go somewhere new to hide." Mark added.
"Well, this is certainly an odd situation." Viper stated.
"I just have one more question for you two though." Jackie stated.
Both boys just let out an annoyed sigh.
"Okay, ask away if you must." Mark said.
"How exactly are the girls switching hiding places so easily? You'd think someone would notice them moving around." Jackie said.
"Well, let me ask you all this. Remember that day at the hearing when Jade escaped by walking through shadows?" Mark asked.
"Yes." Jackie replied.
"Well, there's your answer. They're getting around through the shadows." Dante declared.
"Okay, but why did you tell us that information so easily?" Tohru questioned.
"Because, none of you can walk through shadows, so you'll never find out exactly where they are anyway." Dante replied.
"Now if you excuse us we have work to do." Mark declared.
And the two reapers just walked away.
"That was weird." Paco declared.
"I don't like the sound of this mating season." Jackie stated.
"Don't worry Jackie; I'm sure Jade can handle it." Viper declared.
