Chapter 25

It was another day for Jade and her friends at work. There hadn't been any intruding demons in a long time, so their job for the past month or so now was just to go around collecting the souls of the departed. By the late afternoon they were all done, so they all met up at the park so they could go deposit all the souls they collected.

"So, where did everyone get sent this time?" Mamoru questioned.

"Paris," Amber said. "There were a lot of cancer patients there today. It's actually really heart-breaking."

"Yeah, well try going to Uganda, or anywhere in Africa," Violet declared. "It's just as heart-breaking."

"We've collected war victims' souls before though," Dante stated.

"Yeah, well, some of them were children," Violet declared. "It's so sad."

"At least they'll be at peace now," Mark declared.

"Yeah, so where did you boys get sent?" Jade questioned.

"Russia," Mark replied. "It's so fricking cold there though."

"Doesn't it get into the negatives in the Celsius temperatures there?" Violet questioned.

"Yeah, it sucks," Mark replied. "It was -3°C there."

"What about you Dante?" Amber questioned. "Where did you go?"

"Costa Rica, one guy was bitten by a fer-de-lance," Dante stated. "It was really tragic."

"Don't you only have like 20 minutes to get help if you get bitten by one of those?" Jade asked.

"Eeeeek, that's why I hate those damn snakes," Amber declared.

"Amber, we've fought more grotesque and more dangerous monsters before," Mark declared.

"I know, but snakes just sound more dangerous and they look way grosser," Amber stated.

"Ok, enough of these snake talks," Dante stated. "Jade where did you go?"

"Australia, one of them was a surfer," Jade stated. "He was attacked by a shark."

"That's sounds tragic," Violet said.

"Yeah, there was a lot of blood," Jade declared.

"Eeeeew, Jade, you don't need to go into detail about it," Amber declared.

"I know, but sometimes I rather enjoy it," Jade stated.

"Jade, you're kidding right?" Dante asked.

"Only partially," Jade replied.

Everyone looked at her strangely.

"Of course I'm kidding you guys," Jade finally said.

When they finally reached the soul room they each dumped their bags and sealed the device that held the souls.

"Hey guys, I just thought about something," Amber said.

"What is it?" Mark questioned.

"What would happen if someone broke in and tried to steal one of the souls?" Amber asked.

"Amber, I believe that is pretty much impossible," Mamoru stated.

"Yeah, did you forget how hard it is to differentiate between all those damn souls?" Jade asked. "They all look the same."

"Yeah, we only know who they belong to briefly because we see the bodies when we collect them," Violet stated.

"I know, I'm just saying, what if?" Amber questioned.

"I don't know, only a very intelligent person or people can be able to differentiate all those souls," Mark stated.

The next day the J team had decided to do something that no one, not even Uncle had done since they came to Hell; they decided to go to the library. The only problem was that they weren't sure where to find it. So they decided to go ask the Devil where the best one was.

"Why didn't we just ask a guard instead or something," Viper asked as the J team made their way to the throne room.

"We don't even know if what half of what the guards tell us is the truth senorita," El Toro stated.

"He's right," Jackie stated. "The most reliable source is the Devil himself."

"What makes you think that he'll even listen to us for something as simple as asking where a library is?" Viper questioned.

"That king has listened to us before," Uncle said. "Why should this be any different?"

When they reached the throne room and the guards opened the door, they saw Jade on throne rather than the dark king himself.

"Jade?" Jackie questioned.

"Yeah, who else would I be?" Jade asked.

"What are you doing here?" Jackie asked.

"I'm sitting in for Dad today," Jade declared. "He said I need to start learning for the future when I'm the new Devil."

"Yes, and so far she's doing a pretty good job," A familiar voice stated.

Suddenly there was a big explosion and the Devil was standing next to the throne.

"I think you freaked them out father," Jade said looking at the J team's shocked expressions.

"Yes, well, they have never seen that before," The Devil replied.

"So Jade is sitting in for you?" Jackie questioned.

"Yes, I thought since she does not need to find her second yet that this was the next best step," the Devil replied.

"Her second?" Viper questioned.

"Yes, every devil must chose a second in command to be their most trusted advisor and help them with things," The Dark King explained.

"How come you don't have a second then?" Uncle questioned.

"My second died a long time ago," The Devil stated. "I chose not to take a new one because he was my most trusted friend and I did not wish to dishonor his memory."

Suddenly Jade began bursting into laughter.

"Oh boy, I remember when Uncle Kyoya freaked out on all of those officials for speaking against you," Jade stated. "It was so funny."

"Jade," The Devil warned.

"Right sorry," Jade deadpanned.

"Now, I assume you all came here with a question," The Dark King said.

"Yes actually, we were wondering where the nearest library is," El Toro replied.

"Well, there is one right here in the palace that you can access," The Devil stated.

"Thank you your majesty, but where to we find it?" Paco questioned.

"Jade, you can take a break, please show our friends where the library is please," The Devil ordered.

Jade scoffed. "Yes, father; follow me everyone."

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

When they all reached the library they couldn't believe what they saw. There were so many books here it looked like something that put the Library of Congress to shame.

"Look at and take whatever you want, but make sure whatever you take gets returned," Jade stated. "Inventory is done in here every other week."

Half an hour later

"Hatcha!" Uncle yelled.

The others ran over to where he was sitting with a large book in front of him.

"What is it Uncle?" Jackie asked.

"Hey, just because no one else is in here doesn't mean the library rule of be quiet doesn't apply," Jade said walking to the group.

"There is black magic for resurrection," Uncle declared looking at the page in front of him.

"Magic for resurrection in Hell, Viper questioned.

"Well yeah, people in Hell still die," Jade declared. "Mainly only idiots resurrect people for evil purposes."

"Does it actually work?" Paco asked.

"No, you have to find the right soul to do that," Jade stated. "And that's really hard to do and not only that even if someone does happen to find the right soul there's still no guarantee that it will work. There are thousands of other ways for it to go wrong."

"Like what?" Viper asked.

"Something can go wrong with the spell itself and the end result could turn out to be a zombie, a comatose body, or something just as useless." Jade replied. "The point of a full on resurrection is to bring someone completely back. The ingredients are rare and hard to handle, there is no margin for error with the incantation, which is in a language that is both extremely ancient and hard to pronounce, and all of the sign that have to be written on the ground are tricky to draw. So all in all the resurrection is really hard to pull off; I've only heard about a few people who have tried it. In the best case it just failed and the guy got into some official trouble for stealing a soul and in the worse the one the guy was resurrecting was basically a zombie and killed him in what was apparently a horrific and painful way. Not sure how though, every time I ask the subject gets changed or I just get flat out ignored.

"You don't think anyone will plan to do that in the near future?" Jackie questioned.

"How should I know?" Jade replied. "They could be or they can't." She said before walking back to the second floor of the library.

Back in the throne room

The Devil was sitting in his throne waiting for Jade to return.

"You're majesty," Mamoru appeared and kneeled before the Devil. "I wish to speak with you on an important matter."

"You may speak freely Mamoru," The Dark King said.

"I believe Princess Jade is in danger," Mamoru stated. "When I approached Zyon's grave a few days ago I felt like I was being watched; ever since then I have very anxious."

"I understand perfectly what you mean Mamoru," The Dark King declared. "I feel it as well."
