"Miss Barker, Agent Barton is on the line."

Emma rolled over and tried to hit the snooze button. "You forget, I do not have a snooze button. Agent Barton says this call is urgent." Emma sat upright and grabbed the phone off of her bedside table. If Clint was calling, did that mean they found Tony?

"Clint?"

"We found him Em, we found Tony." Emma gave a sigh of relief and felt the tears spring into her eyes.

"Is he alright?"

"He's fine, he is with the base nurses as we currently speak. He has changed though."

Emma felt her stomach drop, "What happened? He lost a limb?"

"No, not exactly. More like his heart grew three sizes."

"Don't play games with me Clint, no Grinch quotes. Seriously, what's happened?"

"I am being serious, when he was attacked, he had shrapnel from the bombs that were embedded in his chest and he was in danger of the shrapnel going into his heart and killing him. So, a doctor who was held captive with him saved his life. Tony used his technology and expanded on it to help keep him alive."

"Technology? What are you talking about Clint?"

"Tony has an arc reactor in his chest, a small one, keeping him alive. He lights up like a freaking damn night light!"

"I'm sorry what?!" Emma shouted.

"Yeah, so otherwise, he's doing fine."

Emma fell back on her pillows and just started laughing through her tears. "I just am glad he's okay, thanks Clint."

"I'll see you at 13:00 hours. Over and out Agent."

"Over and out." Emma looked at her clock and saw it was 2 in the morning and ran down the hall to tell Pepper the good news.

"PEPPER!"

"What?" Pepper popped out of her room and Emma could see the tears in her eyes.

"Rhodey called didn't he?"

"Tony's alive!" Pepper said and she hugged Emma close as they jumped up and down happy.

A few hours later, Emma and Pepper and Happy stood on the tarmac as the Military plane landed and Tony stepped out with Rhodey and Clint. Emma looked over at Pepper and saw tears coming down her face as she smiled and Emma couldn't help the tears that escaped as well. Clint gave her a smile and a wave as he walked down and she waved back.

"Are you kidding me with this? Get rid of them." Tony commented as he saw the ambulance nearby as he walked towards them.

"Already on it." Rhodey commented and waved over towards the paramedics. Clint hugged Emma first and then hugged Pepper.

"I'm heading back to headquarters, we shall talk soon." Clint said to Emma and he headed off.

"Your eyes are red. A few tears for your long lost boss ladies?" Tony commented as he stood next to Clint and Rhodey.

"Tears of job. I hate job hunting," Pepper teased and Tony smiled.

"Yeah, sorry but vacation is over." Tony said and they started to walk towards the car and Tony enveloped Emma in a hug, "I owe you an apology for not listening to your instincts. You had a feeling and I should've listened to you."

"It's okay Tony, I'm just glad you are okay."

"Your friend Barton? He's a pretty standup guy. You should keep him around."

"Thanks, he's like a brother to me. Much like you are, my two boys." Emma smiled up at Tony as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and kissed her head.

"Yeah, yeah. Soon the teasing and pestering will start again. Then we will really be like siblings. But you are older than me by what? 40 or so years?"

"Shut up Tony." Emma pushed him into the car and followed in behind.

"Where to sir?" Happy asked from the front seat.

"Take us to the hospital please Happy." Pepper jumped in before Tony could speak.

"No." Tony firmly stated.

"Tony!" Pepper and Emma said simultaneously.

"No Tony, you have to go to the hospital," Pepper pleaded.

"No is a complete answer Pep," Tony argued back.

"The doctor has to look at you," Emma started to make a case as well.

"I don't have to do anything, stop it you two." Tony said and the car fell silent. "I've been held in captivity for three months. There are two things I want to do."

"Oh here you go," Emma mumbled as she turned to look out the window as Happy drove away.

"First, I want an American cheeseburger and the other-"

"That's enough of that Tony," Pepper cut him off.

"It's not what you think Pepper. I want to call a press conference."

"I'm sorry what?" Emma turned to look at him baffled.

"Call a press conference?" Pepper repeated back shocked.

"Yeah."

"What on Earth for?!"

"Happy drive, cheeseburger first."

"Clearly you have your priorities set," Emma commented as she rolled her eyes.

"If you were held in captivity, what would you want first to eat?" Tony turned to her and ignored Pepper's glares as she pulled out her Blackberry to call everyone.

"A big bowl of Cheetos," Emma retaliated and Tony nodded his head. "Good choice Barker."

They picked up food from a fast food place and then headed to Stark Headquarters. Outside the building were many reporters and Obadiah greeting them all with a big smile that made Emma want to punch him in the face.

Tony got out of the car and hugged Obadiah, "We were going to meet at the hospital!" Obadiah commented to him.

"No I'm fine," Tony brushed off.

"Look at you! You had to have a burger? Come on in! Let's get started!" Obadiah joked with him like nothing had happened. Emma had a sneaking suspicion that Obadiah knew something of Tony's disappearance since she had heard the phone calls from the Middle East in his office. But she brushed her thoughts aside and followed with Pepper behind them.

They walked inside and Obadiah led Tony in like a hero returning from war with all the cameras and reporters up to the podium. It made Emma's stomach churn and she could see the discomfort on Tony's face as he still ate his food. Pepper and Emma stood in the back and kept on standby for anything Tony might need.

"Miss Potts?"

Emma turned at the familiar voice and tried not to freak out when she saw Phil standing next to Pepper. He gave a quick wink to Emma before Pepper turned to look at him.

"Yes?"

"Can I speak to you for a moment?" Phil asked.

"Oh, I'm not a part of the press conference but it's about to begin right now," Pepper answered coolly and efficiently to Phil.

"I'm not a reporter, I'm Agent Phil Coulson." Pepper turned and looked at Emma who just gave a sheepish smile.

"I'm with the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division," Phil stated and Pepper gave a laugh.

"That's quite a mouthful," She said.

"I know, we're working on it," Phil teased.

"Otherwise known as SHIELD. Meet my mentor and nerdy friend, Phil." Emma chimed in.

"I thought you worked for the SSR?" Pepper asked surprised.

"I do, they just became SHIELD when Howard Stark and Agent Peggy Carter created SHIELD with SSR agents. So technically, I am a double Agent."

"We're a more separate division from the others out there in the world, we have a more specific focus." Phil smiled, he loved giving this speech each and every time he found some new special tech or ability or person.

"I'm surprised to see you here Phil, you know I'm here."

"Yes, but Agent Barton reported something that we need to discuss with Mr. Stark. It's about the circumstances of his escape."

Pepper and Emma looked at him surprised and confused, "I'll put something in the book shall I?" Pepper commented.

"Yes, thank you." Phil said and Emma went towards him and pulled him aside as Tony advised everyone to sit down.

"You think I can't handle this mission anymore? Is this you and Fury trying to get me out of here and taking over?" Emma whispered at him.

"No, it's not. Your mission is still intact. It's something that is a little more over your head that we have to deal with."

"What do you mean over my head? I was there and a part of the Super Soldier days! Nothing can go over my head!" Emma hissed at him.

"For now, it is. Because we don't understand completely what is going on or happening. You need to keep an eye on Tony and protect him. We shall be in contact later."

"I never got to say goodbye to my dad." Emma turned at Tony's voice and felt her heart sink at Tony's sad voice. "I never got to say goodbye to my father."

"He needs you, be there for him." Phil said to Emma and he left. Emma sat down next to Pepper and listened to Tony.

"There's questions I would have asked. I would've asked him how he felt about what this company did. If he was conflicted, if he ever had any doubts." He looked at Emma and Emma felt tears stinging her eyes.

She knew those answers, she knew he hated how he had become a weapons manufacturer, and he wanted to create inventions to save people and better the world, not destroy it. But with war, he knew weapons were a way to save many and to fund his other inventions.

"Or maybe he was every inch the man we all remember from the newsreels." Tony knew that not to be true but he always had his doubts.

"I saw young Americans killed. They were killed by the very weapons I created to defend and protect them. And I saw I became part of a system that had become comfortable with zero accountability." Tony got very solemn and dark, he looked out at the crowd as if he was miles away. His time over there took a toll.

A reporter asked him what it was like and what had happened over seas, "I had my eyes opened. I came to realize I have more to offer this world than just making things blow up." Emma felt a little swell of pride at this new Tony, a cleaned up and grown up Tony. "And that is why effective immediately, I am shutting down the weapons manufacturing division of Stark International until such a time as I can decide what the future of the company will be."

Emma and Pepper's jaws dropped and room erupted into questions and flashes of light. Emma saw Obadiah start to sweat and his eyes got panicky. Tony got up and left and Emma followed behind him. Obadiah tried to cover up for reporters as they left.

"Tony that was amazing! Crazy but amazing!" Emma commented.

"You know that was the right thing," Tony stated to her.

"Your father would be so proud, he knew weapons was a big part of business just not one he was comfortable always selling."

"I need to show you something," Tony stated and took her to the Arc Reactor. Emma knew he was going to tell her about the one in his chest.

"I've seen the arc reactor plenty of times, I've even been there for when your father got the crazy idea for it and he was giddy like a 5 year old on Christmas when it worked."

"I changed in that cave," Tony started and Emma stopped him.

"I know, Clint debriefed me."

"He didn't show you though." At that Tony unbuttoned his shirt and showed her the fist sized glowing arc reactor in his chest.

"I can't believe you actually did it Tony; that is amazing!" Emma commented.

"I know, it's crazy right? But it's keeping me alive." Emma looked out the large windows and saw Obadiah coming this way. She didn't want to be anywhere near him.

"We will talk later, looks like angry Uncle is coming to talk to you and give you a spanking." Tony rolled his eyes and just sighed.

"I will go get everything ready for you to leave soon," Emma said and left quickly.

Once they all had arrived back home, Emma's phone was blowing up with texts from Phil. Emma excused herself and went to her room. She turned on her computer and was video calling Phil.

"Hi Emma!" he smiled and Emma just glowered at him.

"What the hell was that earlier?"

"Just SHIELD doing its job."

"Which is the reason I am here or did you all forget that? What was this over my head crap?"

"Tony's escape was not something that you could handle, we had to bring in the bigger guns. You are still only a Level 5 clearance, we needed a Level 7 or higher." Emma crossed her arms and rolled her eyes, feeling more like a 16 year old than a 21 year old adult.

"Did I not do a good enough job? I know my job is to protect Tony but he is a child he can only listen to me-"

"You've done your job fine, the disappearance has come and gone, you now have more to your mission. Figure out exactly what Tony built and created in that cave and if he plans to continue plans on that creation."

"I'm sorry what?" Emma was confused. Just then a video popped up on the side of her screen, it was footage from the space shuttle and from the military base tracking an item, shaped oddly like a man shooting towards the sky and landing miles away from the cave where Tony was obviously held captive.

"What is that?" Emma said softly intrigued.

"That's what we need you to find out, he escaped in that pod we're guessing. Find out what he created and send info back to SHIELD and we shall go from there. Meanwhile, I will be keeping in touch with Miss Potts on the matter. Do not tell her of this mission."

"I won't." Emma shut down her computer.

"I won't tell Mr. Stark." Emma jumped at the voice.

"Thank you Jarvis."

"Anything to protect him."

Emma didn't sleep well that night and tossed and turned, she couldn't get events of the day out of her head. So much happened in the past 24 hours and so much that she couldn't process. She eventually did fall asleep but her dreams were strange. She was wandering in a cold barren land and saw pieces of rubble scattered around her. She went to examine one of them and found Steve's helmet and dropped it like it was on fire. She scanned the surrounding area and could see nothing through the blinding white snow.

"Emma how big are your hands?" Emma was awoken by Tony calling her on the intercom in her room. She jolted awake and shook the dream from her mind.

"What?" She asked groggily.

"Never mind, I'll ask Pepper. She's up. Get your ass up lazy!" Tony teased and she fell back against her pillows.

"You know technically I am 67 years old, I can treat you like a child Tony." Emma fired back.

"No, biologically you are 21, you were only born in 1941 and travelled to 1987 at a young age, so yeah you are still younger than me! I'm calling Pepper."

Emma got up and got changed and headed down to the gym. As she was passing Tony's lab she had to double take and rush inside when she saw Pepper reaching into Tony's chest.

"What the hell?!" Emma shouted. She heard a loud buzzing noise and Pepper pulled something out of Tony's chest and the heart monitor next to him starting wailing.

"What's wrong?" Pepper shouted.

"Nothing I'm just going into cardiac arrest," Tony said casually and calmly.

"Oh God!" Emma ran over next to him.

"Hi Em, this was what I needed small hands for. Pepper has been doing a wonderful job." Tony turned to her.

"What? You said it was safe?!" Pepper shouted in a panic.

"Well we gotta hurry. Emma hand her this." Tony put the new arc reactor in her hand.

Emma tried not to look into the deep hole in Tony's chest as she handed the arc to Pepper.

"Tony it's going to be okay," Pepper reassured him, suddenly acting like a good doctor with bedside manners.

"JUST PUT IT IN!" Emma freaked out.

"That's what she said!" Tony teased, "Okay you are going to attach that to the base plate….AHH!" Tony screamed and it was attached and his heart rate returned to normal.

"Was that so hard? That was fun right?" Tony asked Pepper with a smile and Pepper just stood there, hands covered in goo trying to calm her breathing and Emma tried not to fall over. She turned to check his vitals and make sure everything was fine, she was the one with some medical knowledge thanks to her SHIELD training. All vitals were good.

"Nice." Pepper finally stated. "Are you okay?" Pepper asked him.

"Yeah, I feel great. You okay?" Tony asked her as he reached past Emma and turned everything off and peeled off his monitors.

"Don't ever, ever, ever ask me to do that again." Pepper stated firmly.

"I don't have anyone else but you." Tony stated standing in front of Pepper and Emma tried to casually slip away, "And Emma but really Pepper, she event travels a lot."

Emma gave a small smile at how adorable the two of them were.

"Speaking of, I am going to get to my exercises for the day." And Emma left for the gym.

Emma later that day as she was ready to head out and get some work done at the office got a call from Pepper.

"Emma, don't come into work."

"Why?"

"Because your job now is to stay home and make sure Tony stays low. Per Obadiah's orders. I will be home when I can but I got to help run Stark from the offices and you run it from the house. Can you do that for me?"

"Of course."

"Thanks talk soon!"

Emma changed into jeans and a blouse and headed down to look for Tony. She found him missing.

"Son of a…" She hissed under her breath. Great her new mission and she was already failing.

When she couldn't sleep that night again from her strange dream, Emma decided to change into some workout gear and get her mind clear by the punching bag. She noticed the lab light on and went in to check on Tony.

"Jarvis, you up?"

"For you sir, always."

Emma watched as a giant suit of armor was brought up on the draft table. "I want to start a new project file, label this as Mark II."

"Shall I store this on the Stark Industries Central Data Base?" Jarvis asked.

"Actually, I don't know who to trust right now." Tony stated to the air, "Can I trust you Emma?" Tony asked not even turning to face her.

"Of course you can. I didn't mean to snoop," Emma apologized.

"No, it's your job, but I know you and Pepper are the few people I trust right now. I know you won't let anyone know anything about this."

Emma felt her stomach drop and nodded her head, "No I won't." And she knew that was a promise she would try to keep.

"Till further notice Jarvis, I want to keep everything on my private server." Tony announced.

"A secret project?" Emma asked.

"I just don't want this ending up in the wrong hands. Maybe in mine it can do some good." Tony mused.

"What is it?" Emma asked.

"And iron suit, I used this one to escape but it fell to pieces in the desert and I want to see if I can improve on it and use it as a peace keeping tool. Something that can help change the world." Emma felt pride at him.

"Your dad would be proud." She said and Tony just shrugged his shoulders. Emma then noticed as Tony kept working, that his trash can was filled with stuff from his desk, including a picture of him and Howard.

"Why is this in the trash?" Emma demanded feeling hurt.

"I feel like I've failed him with the company, it's a reminder of what I created."

"It should be a reminder what you can do! Do not ever throw things like this out!" Emma said and she placed it on a shelf nearby.

"Why are you awake anyway?" Tony asked.

"Can't sleep."

"Have you traveled?"

"Not in a while." Emma rubbed her arms and looked away.

"Why?" Tony looked up at her and Emma sighed.

"Because what's the point?! I'm traveling to see people who are dead, who are no longer in my life. Why do I keep re opening that wound that will never ever heal? I also keep having this strange dreams lately, dreams of me in an ice field, rubble of metal around me and I find…"

Tony turned and walked towards her, "Find of what?"

"I found Steve's helmet," Emma felt the tears stinging, "It's like a painful reminder that he's gone and never coming back and once my travels to see him end. That's it. He's gone, forever."

Tony hugged her and she hugged him back trying not to cry, "You have to travel Emma. It's a part of you, you can hurt yourself if you don't. But focus on someone else, something else. Maybe that will help. In the meantime, since we were both on orders to stay low, maybe you can help me with my secret project?"

Emma smiled and kissed him on the cheek, "I would want nothing else."

Emma stayed up that night and helped Tony create his new Iron suit. She went to bed when the sun was rising and felt her head become dizzy, she needed to travel, so she focused on something, anything and thought of Tony and his crazy ideas.

She traveled and found herself in Howard's Long Island mansion, she looked around for anyone and soon ran into Jarvis.

"Miss Barker! I didn't expect you!" Jarvis said surprised.

"Hi Jarvis, uh, what year is it?" Emma asked and then she realized Jarvis called her Miss Barker. It was around the time Howard married Maria that she finally told Jarvis her story and who she really was so he wasn't surprised any more at her still popping up out of nowhere all the time. So the year must've been the mid 1950's.

"1956 ma'am, your room is not set up. I will get it ready for you."

"Thanks Jarvis, I will just pop in there and quickly change." Emma headed towards the stairs and tried to remember where her room was. She had only been to this home a few times. The rest were the Manhattan apartment. Howard and Maria were married in 1954 and Howard mostly lived at his apartment before here in the 40's. She eventually found her room, which was labeled by a door with a white star next to it. She walked in and all the furniture was covered in white sheets and she went towards the closet and found the latest 50's fashions. Thank you Maria!

Emma threw on a grey tulle skirt and a white cap sleeved top and threw on some heels and went to look for Howard or Maria. It didn't take long, she found them both outside by the pool. Maria was lounging and Howard was tinkering with something at the table with a scotch by his side.

"You two enjoying your lazy day?" Emma asked.

"Emma!" They both said excited. Howard jumped up and hugged her first and Maria gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek.

"How are you? We haven't seen you in a while!" Maria asked.

"I'm fine, been busy with a mission back home." Emma left it at that. "How are you two?"

"We are great. Howard is working on a new invention for Stark Industries."

"Another one?" Emma joked and went to sit across from him at the table.

"It's a prototype for tracking, since we are pretty much at war with Russia, we need some new tech. They want me to create more weapons but that's not what Stark Industries was built upon, it was to create tech to help the world not destroy it."

Emma gave a small smile, "Someone else I know recently said the same thing."

"But I have to do what the Government asks or I don't get my funding, so I make my tech in my spare time." Emma could hear the sadness in his voice and touched her friend's hand.

"I think it's great what you are doing."

"So, some big news, Peggy is expecting her first child," Howard said and Emma smiled. She knew Peggy had gotten married a couple of years ago and she was happy for her.

"That's wonderful!" Emma said.

"And the baby shower is in a few hours. Here." Maria stated and Emma looked around and just noticed the tables and chairs set up and some other things getting set up by a company.

"Oh! I'm glad I changed into this then," Emma gestured to her clothes.

"Speaking of changing, I'm going to go get ready. You should too Howard," Maria got up from her lounge chair and Howard just nodded over his invention.

"And don't worry Emma, we bought a gift for you for Peggy."

Emma smiled, "Thank you. And thanks for buying her a wedding gift from me too."

Maria just laughed and headed inside.

"She wants a baby too," Howard mumbled and Emma turned to look at him.

"You don't?" she asked.

"No, I do but I have so much going on. When do I find the time?" he said.

"Peggy does just as much and even more than you and she was able to." Emma commented.

"The timing just isn't right."

"Well, it better be soon. You turn 40 next year and Maria turns 35."

Howard put down his tools and just looked up at her, "You sound just like her." And Emma grinned.

"We girls have to stick together. But I know the time will come soon." Emma winked at him.

"When?" He asked suddenly excited.

"When the timing is right. Also, you know my code. I can't tell you." Howard just shook his head and started to go back to his work but Emma covered his invention.

"Go get changed, your guests will be arriving soon." Howard got up and left.

"You know for someone who doesn't have children, you certainly know how to take care of them." Howard teased and Emma just rolled her eyes.

She went back into the house and went to see if Jarvis needed help. She moved some stuff around outside, did some decorating, and helped get the cake outside with the chef's. She also arranged the two presents from her and the Starks on the gift table.

"Emma? I can't believe you made it!" Emma turned at the familiar voice and saw Peggy waddling out towards her by the pool. Emma rushed towards her and grabbed her hand. Peggy's husband Daniel was close behind her.

"You better be careful Peggy," Emma said as she escorted her into a chair.

"I'm so glad to see you here!" Peggy said with tears in her eyes. Emma sat next to her as Peggy took her hands in hers. "I miss you so much. We could really use you at SHIELD."

"Oh I know and don't worry, that time will come, but please, you are keeping my files from the SSR safe from SHIELD for now?"

"Of course, they are not to be opened until…2003? That seems forever away."

"If only." Emma said to herself.

"How is SHIELD? How are you as Director and Agent?" Emma asked.

"Well, working out of home right now with this, but as soon as I can, I will get back out in the field. We have so many Russian spies to deal with. Including the Red Room girls."

Emma winced at the name and knew of the horrible history and talent those girls had, only one walked away and she was her best friend, Natasha.

"Hence the reason, Howard was fiddling with a new tracker tech."

"Yes, but enough about work. I want to hear about your life!" Peggy waved her hand and smiled.

"Well, not much to really tell, since it's all classified. But life is good, I'm on a mission back home and working with a very dear friend. I visit Steve occasionally but my timelines are starting to meet up so the traveling to that time has kind of halted."

"Daniel and I discussed if we have a boy we want to have his middle name be Steven, he touched so many of our lives." Peggy said rubbing her belly.

"So you don't know," Emma said as she went to reach for her belly but thought again.

"No we don't and please, you can touch." Peggy grabbed her hand and placed it on her belly and Emma felt the baby kick and she laughed and felt the tears sting her eyes.

"Oh my, the baby kicked!" She said excitedly.

"If we have a girl, we are naming her Emma." Emma looked up and Peggy was smiling. "You are such a dear friend and someone who has been a big part of my life as well. You were the one who encouraged me to give Daniel a chance." Emma gave her a surprised look.

"I do?" She laughed.

"Oh no, wrong time stream! I'm sorry Emma, well, I guess I had to tell you so you could encourage me…" Peggy trailed off realizing the power of time travel.

"And I will one day, it's already happened for you but not me yet." Emma wiped away a tear threatening to fall, "So Emma huh? Are you sure you want to give your baby that name."

Peggy laughed, "It would be Emmaline Josephine Souza, Emma for short. Emmaline from my mother's side and Josephine after Daniels mother and Emma after you. All the important women in our lives. And if it's a boy James Steven Souza, James for my father and Steven for Steve. Daniel didn't want his father's name since he thought it would give Howard a big head." Emma laughed at that.

"We definitely don't want to do that."

"Do what?" Howard asked coming towards them with Maria on his arm. They were both dressed in spring colors. Howard in a light colored suit and Maria in a floral print dress. They both went and hugged and kissed Peggy.

"Nothing Howard." Emma laughed.

Soon the rest of the guests started to arrive, some Howling Commandos and their wives and children. Some other folks from the SSR and even Colonel Phillips and his wife and their grown children and grandchildren arrived. Emma sat back and just watched everyone, sipping on her lemonade and eating some food and cake. She liked observing because honestly, this wasn't her world, at least not anymore. They all had moved on and had lives, she didn't belong. Suddenly out of the corner of Emma's eye, she saw something strange.

She watched a couple enter, the man helping his pregnant wife in and their two young children running ahead of them. The children were two boys, one had blond hair like his father and the other had brown hair like his mother. One looked to be about 9 years old, the other looked to be about 5. Emma looked at the couple and felt her breath catch in her throat. It was her and Steve, he was dressed in khaki pants and a light blue button down with the sleeves rolled up exposing his arms. She was dressed in a light purple flowered dress and was about 6 months pregnant. He held her hand and kissed her cheek and whispered something in her ear that made her smile. Emma noticed time had stopped as she saw this vision of what her future could've been. Had she saved Steve and stayed in their time line. Everyone around them was at a standstill but Emma and Steve smiled and walked towards Peggy and Daniel.

"Be careful James!" Emma called to one of the boys. They named a son after Bucky? Emma couldn't take this, it hurt so much.

"He's fine. He's just playing with Howard's dog," Steve reassured her.

"I just don't want either of them to fall in the pool," Emma said to Steve.

"They won't." Steve reassured her and kissed her softly on the lips.

"Stop it!" Emma cried at her vision.

"Emma?" Emma shook her head and time turned on and her vision of her and Steve disappeared. She turned to see Howard looking at her and the rest of the party had gone quiet.

"I'm sorry," Emma said realizing she had shouted out loud.

"What happened?" Howard asked.

"I have to go." Emma quickly excused herself and ran through the house and made it to the front lawn before Howard had stopped her.

"Emma stop! What's wrong?" He asked and Peggy and Maria were following slowly behind him.

"I had a vision, not one that can come true but what my life could've been." Emma said and she felt the tears on her face. She had been crying too much lately, she hated it.

"What do you mean?" Howard asked confused. "You were there the whole time, but you were staring off into the distance as if you had seen a ghost…" Howard trailed off realizing what she meant. She hadn't traveled but saw what her life could've been with Steve. He pulled her close and hugged her and Peggy and Maria joined them.

"I should go, I'm so sorry to all of you. I will see you soon." Emma said and she gave her hugs and goodbyes and concentrated on leaving.

Emma opened her eyes and found herself in her room at Tony's. She looked at the clock and she had only been gone an hour. She was tired but the last thing she wanted to do was sleep. She went back to the lab and found Tony in there, he hadn't left.

"Where did you go?" He asked noticing her dress.

"Peggy Carter's baby shower at your parents place, but I need a distraction. My visions and mind have been too active. So what can I do to help?" She explained and Tony didn't ask anymore.

"Well, I got to get some metal work done, so June Cleaver you should change first." Emma smiled at his joke and went to change.

This was going to be the perfect distraction.

For the next few weeks Emma did nothing but help Tony work on his iron suit project. She video recorded tests for him, helped him build the suit, and even took a few laughs at his expense, especially when he flew into the ceiling. Then trouble came knocking.

Tony and Emma were in the lab and Tony was working on a piece on his wrist, Emma was there for protection more than anything else, make sure he didn't blow himself up on this part. Pepper walked in and looked around surprised.

"I've been buzzing you two. Didn't you hear the intercom?" She asked them.

"Sorry Pepper, I'm making sure Tony doesn't kill himself."

"Yeah everything's…what?" Tony finally noticed her presence.

"Obadiah's upstairs." She looked at Emma and Emma tried to keep her cool.

"Great!" Tony said not listening.

"What would you like me to tell him?" Pepper asked trying to get Tony's attention.

"Tell him I will be right up."

"I thought you said you were done making weapons?" Pepper asked them.

"I am, this is just a flight stabilizer. Completely harmless," Tony said and he tried to turn it on and it sent a light beam shooting out and broke the glass across from them. Emma grabbed the fire extinguisher and Pepper ducked.

"I wasn't expecting that," Tony said looking at his hand.

"Yeah, I guess you weren't," Emma said putting the fire extinguisher down. Tony took off the glove and Pepper headed upstairs.

"You don't have to come you know, Pepper told me what he did to you," Tony said putting his arm around Emma.

"I'm glad Pepper told you," Emma growled under her breath.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"It never seemed the right time, but I'm fine now. I have the skills to kill him within in 3 seconds, he doesn't scare me." Emma smiled up at Tony and he ruffled her hair.

"That's my girl." They reached the top of the stairs and found Obadiah playing piano and a box of New York Pizza on the coffee table.

"How'd it go?" No response, "That bad huh?" Tony asked.

"Just because I brought back pizza from New York doesn't mean it went bad," Obadiah said from the piano bench and Tony took a slice and handed the box to Emma.

"Sure it doesn't."

"It would have gone better if you were there," Obadiah stated and Pepper looked up and then at Emma and then back down at her computer. Emma knew about the meeting told Tony and they both brushed it off for the project.

"I was told to lay low. That's what I've been doing," Tony retorted back.

"Hey, come one, I meant in the public and the press! This was a board of directors meeting!" Obie got up and walked towards Tony and Emma sat on the couch next to Pepper to let them fight it out.

"The board is claiming you have post-traumatic stress." The room fell silent and Pepper stopped typing and Emma looked at Tony's shocked face. "They're filing an injunction."

"A what?" Tony asked surprised.

"They want to lock you out."

"They can't do that! It's rightfully his company!" Emma retaliated and Tony just looked at her.

"Why cause the stocks dipped 40 percent? We knew that was going to happen." Tony tried to brush it all off.

"Tony the board has rights too. They are making the case that you and your new direction isn't in the company's best interest." Emma felt her jaw drop and Tony looked peeved.

"I'm being responsible! That's a new direction for me and the company! I mean me being responsible for the company's behalf…" he trailed off in anger. "This is great!" He started to head towards the stairs.

"Hey Tony! Listen, I'm trying to give them something to pitch."

"No this project stays with me."

"Fine then this stays with me," Obie grabbed the pizza box out of Tony's hands and Tony grabbed another slice and gave a motion for Emma to follow and she did.

"You mind if I come down there and see what you are working on?"

"Good night Obie!" Tony called over his shoulder.

"I can't believe this bull crap," Emma muttered mostly to herself.

"Yeah, you're telling me."

"So now what?" Emma asked.

"We keep working."

Tony got the boots and the gloves on and went to the middle of the garage. "We are going to test the thrusters and the flight." Emma grabbed the camera and turned it on and waited.

The first attempt worked and then the second attempt, he flew around the garage. He landed and looked at Emma with a giddy schoolboy face.

"Yeah, I can fly." He said like he could run the world.

"Don't get a big head Tony," Emma said as he walked by and grabbed the helmet and put that on and then he put the suit on. He walked back towards Emma and gave her a small ear piece.

"Wear this so you can hear everything between me and Jarvis."

"What are you doing?"

"I'm going for a flight."

Emma put the ear piece in and heard Jarvis arguing with Tony.

"Jarvis sometimes you gotta run before you can walk." And with that, he flew out the garage and Emma ran towards the door.

"Great, just great. I'm dealing with a child who can now fly. Will my life never not be complicated?"
