The tears had been endless since they had started and she didn't care about stopping, it felt better crying than just feeling the pain with no release.
Crying never killed anyone, but it made her feel helpless and empty. Even when the world around her went dark she had still continued to yell his name, to call him only to have regretted ever realizing she had all this time loved him.
Too late.
It was too late.
He was gone again, this time forever.
All her fault, it had been her fault.
"Luna?"
Someone was calling her, but she was too tired to even give it attention.
"Luna!"
A stronger tone of voice with urgency in it, still she continued in her darkness.
"Luna, please before it's too late!"
It was too late. Everything was lost. Luna never remembered feeling so empty, so uncaring. Still she was alive and so were the Lost Boys, even in her grieve and loneliness she needed to get up, she had to reach them and tell them what had happened.
Apologize.
And see their sad expressions.
They had also loved Peter, so her loss was not hers alone.
"Luna!"
She opened her eyes with her own willpower to face what she had done, what has been lost.
She was no longer in the forest or in the cold snow.
Peter was not there.
She was sorrounded by walls of wood, the smell of the sea and her own shadow as company. Slowly Luna got up trying to get ready to face the world. She felt empty like nothing would matter, but still the battle was not over, there were still many things to do. She still had one last mission, one last thing before letting go.
Luna moved to the door and as quietly as she could opened it, there was no one outside, no one anywhere near her and that made her think it was a trap, still she will bait it. Someone had called her, someone knew she was there and she would find out who. As she walked slowly around the wooden hallway she heard footsteps. She panicked and ended up in a corner behind some rope. The pirates went on ignoring her as if possessed by something but they were no older than the Lost Boys. Had they been Alexis's men? The pirate boys she had never seen but presumed existed considering Cindy. Of course Alexander had to have a crew of his own but why they were never seen or mention was a mistery to her.
Luna waited for a while then moved away as fast as she could, maybe if she found Alexander she could clear all this up but it was almost a labyrinth in the damn boat and she felt she was going in circles. Suddenly the ship started to move and got Luna off course making her fall. She could hear the waves hit the boat and that made her unsettled. If Peter had died then how was Neverland working without the thoughts of the never ending youth. She got up as fast as she could and looked for a window, but none was found, instead a door that was bigger than most and more detailed. She slowly opened it revealing what she thought would be the captain's quarters, Alexander's private room.
It was big, full of red and gold decorations. Luna looked around and saw the big windows where she looked out to the sky.
It was a storm. Everything was grey, the frozen waters were now swirling and raging on.
"Ugly weather we're having."
She jumped scared and look back, it was Alexis in all his pirate glory. His long dark hair was pulled back reveling his sharp eyes and the shadow of his beard. He was resting with his long legs stretch out and his muscular arms crossed.
"You look a lot older now," - her voice felt strange to her ears.
"Has no one told you? You suck the youth right out of people," Alexander spat out not even giving her a glance.
"Were you the one who brought me here?"
"No, I was... Busy."
"Getting captured?"
"You tell me," the sarcasm in his tone made Luna's eyes slither. Luna and Alexis glared at each other but it was distant and without the same flare that their eyes always show. Something was missing.
She took a deep breath and tried to control all she felt so she could tell him. So she could face it.
"Alexander... P... Pe..." The name made a knot in her speech.
"What?"
"Gone... Peter, he is gone, I failed." Luna closed her eyes trying to mantain control. "I couldnt save him... I couldn't save him." Her tears started again, the pain she noticed, had not yet left her.
Unknown to her Alexander had his head turned in her direction, his face had no expresion. He watched her as she was trying to keep up her strong fascade something he considered useless, he had noticed something and knowing her well he asked her.
"What's really wrong Luna?"
The question sparked a memory, words once said to her that now had more meaning than she had giving them but Peter's voice whispered in her ear.
"I heard my name and when I looked back it was you who was calling me, when I saw how scared you were I promised myself I'd never leave you."
"Why?" She had asked him not understanding why he would care.
"Because being left behind is the scariest feeling in the world, even scarier than death."
"I'm scared," Luna said opening her blue eyes and looking at Alexis. "I'm scared and yet I can't let it control me, he was also scared and even if I knew what he feared I still couldn't help him, I was selfish and only cared about myself!"
"How do you face your fears?"
"Wha..."
"Fear, sorrow, happiness, all these feelings make you human, if you did not feel them you would not act the way you would want by your own means."
"You're not angry? Why aren't you yelling at me? Why aren't you asking me for penance?"
"Because I was the most coward of all, you are facing your fears Luna, but I never had the courage to do that. I tried to kill myself."
Luna had many things running in her head, but she never considered Alexander going for suicide was something of a possibility. What had possessed the young man to want take his life? Had he done it to atone for what he did? Did he even know Peter was dead?"
"You knew about Peter?"
"No, it was before that, when you reached the tree."
"Then what stopped you?"
"I did."
They both turned to look at the new spectator, there dressed in pirate clothing looking like a captain himself with eyes full of malice was Benedict Saintclair. He looked taller and thinner more intimidating than he had ever looked. Taking off his pirate hat he bowed to Luna giving her a polite salute.
"Sister darling, is been a while," resting his posture again he smiled, but it never reached his eyes. "My apologies for not getting to you sooner."
"It was you who took me away?" Lunas voice was low. "But I saw shadow boys."
"You mean the black pixie dust? Those clones are made of a special dust that was collected from fairies after some... experiments. It takes the form of what it touches the first time and it stays that way."
"You had the boys cloned? why?"
"I wanted my personal army, if Peter had the Lost Boys then I would have what remained of them." Luna looked at Alexander and then to her brother, something was wrong, she had missed a turning point in the entire time she had been in Neverland. Would she dare ask? Would she open the Pandora's Box?"
Yes.
She would, but not for her own curiosity.
For Peter.
"Alexis, why did you try to take your life?"
No answer just silence, yet his eyes gave a spark they had not have the entire time she had been with him. Did he understand?
"What guilt have you had? Did you not wait for Peter? Had you not the valor to face your doings? You were fighting a battle, but it was not the one you led me towards to," she turned to her brother with more spirit than she had since arriving in Neverland.
"You were the one who had the boys killed. You were the one who wanted Peter out of the way... It was not Alexander pulling the strings, no it was you. You were the puppet master of this entire story weren't you, Ben? My dear little brother."
"You speak as if in his defense, his sins cannot be erased just because he was not the one of the ideas. His hands are still covered in blood," Ben said pointing at Alexander.
"Return the ship to its captain Ben, you have played long enough, it's time to go home."
"Return the ship? You foolish girl... This is my ship. I have fought a long battle to get here and I finally won."
"Ben... you killed Peter."
Luna's voice sounded broken and a whisper. Her own brother was the real enemy, her own family.
"My intent was to have him in torment for eternity, but you had to break the prison I had made for him. Bad girl, Luna, oh well, now Neverland is mine to control and I have you to thank as well."
"Go to hell," Luna told her brother, tears in her eyes, but he only smirked.
A click had the siblings's eyes widened as Alexander aim his pistol at Ben, it seemed he had hid his weapon for a while waiting for the right moment.
"You fool."
"Luna, you asked me what guilt had I as to try and kill myself and I answer you with this, I led Ben to this in my own way. I secretly thought that if I led him to do my dirty work Peter will go back to Neverland and forget about you, but it was not so and because of my own dark heart full of envy and anger Ben fell as well. So I tried to correct my mistake."
"By killing yourself?"
Ben laughed as he took out his own pistol and pointed it at the door behind them. "You shoot me and I shoot her." but Luna was confused. not sure what was going on, Alexis however knew and lowered his own weapon.
"Let her go, you can't use her anymore."
"Luna, open the door for me," Ben told her smiling, she hesitated but did as told wanting to know what had made the pirate surrender so easy. As she opened it Luna all but yelled.
"Hello miss Saintclair."
There in the entrance to the captain's room was Smee wearing his own set of pirate clothes and a sword on his victim's neck.
Tied in rope with a bandage in her mouth was Cindilu.
"Let her go!" Luna told Smee.
"I take no orders from you."
"Weren't you on our side? How could you?
"Were you so keen to trust a pirate?"
"No... " Luna panicked as she thought of the boys and Max. It had been a trap, a death trap set in case they survived. She turned to Ben, her eyes yelling at him for mercy. "BEN YOU BASTARD!" She ran to him trying to hit him with her anger, giving him all her strength, but he was stronger and pulled her down.
"Stop it!" It was Alexis he had gotten between them, protecting her. "I'll do what you want just let girls go!"
"Fine, then you take their place," Ben smiled an evil twisted smile. "I will have the last of the Lost Boys' life."
"No, please Alexis don't!" Luna tried getting up, but Alexander held her down not even looking at her.
"Alexander.. YOU WALK THE PLANK!"
"Ben!"
Two of Ben's men walked in and took Alexander away, but Luna would not have it.
"Ben please don't do this!"
"Will you take his place? His eyes were daggers to her heart, who was this monster she had once called brother?
"I would."
"To bad for you that would be showing mercy and I have none. Smee take her with us, Luna walk with me and be part of the new era."
Luna was followed closely by Ben's men as they went to the deck and met up with the entire crew. All had the same dark aura on them, she thought it was because of the black fairy dust Ben mentioned. in the middle of the circle was Alexander, hands tied on his back. Cindilu was hysteric trying to fight off Smee to get to Alexis but it was useless.
"Alexis!" Luna yelled trying to hold his attention, but Alexis would not turn, he faced the plank., his head held high. He had only his pride left.
"Luna I'll let you say your goodbye, concider it my own way of thanks for delivering Peter to me."
"You're a monster," she said as she walked towards Alexander.
"Why!?" She asked and he knew what it was. "You wish for death so badly?"
"Stop it. Don't cry, don't give him the pleasure Luna."
"What are you talking about!? Alexis I don't want to lose you too, please!"
"Luna, survive fight and survive... The war starts now."
"This war is over Alexander it was over the moment Peter died," Ben said his voice rising with the wild winds "I WIN!" The crowed yelled and clapped to their new captain and leader. "The traitor now walks THE PLANK!"
"NOO PLEASE!" She tried to stop them from taking him away from her but to no availl.
"Any last words, Alexander?"
"Luna looked at him, really looked at him. The darkness has eaten all that was left of your brother's shell, now the face shows who really is the puppeteer."
Luna turned slowly to face her brother and her heart sank, her body trembled. All had been a lie, all had been false, all had been lost from the beginning.
A man had possessed her brother's body and she yelled bloody murder.
His hair was longer and darker, his face older, wiser. His spirit evil and full of revenge. somehow it all made sense now. His voice now a man's.
"I, captain James Hook sentence you to death, Alexander and with it the last shadow of that blasted PAN."
The roars of pleasure. The yell of pirates, the yell of evil.
It had been Hook all this time, it had been Peter's worse enemy. It made sense why Smee had changed, he had never been on their side.
"I DIE A LOST BOY!"
"Alexis!"
The boy fell to the dark and swirling oceans with a proud face. Smee had been right, Alexander had been a Lost Boy from the start, in his own way he had tried to help his team, his family. But just like Luna he failed.
"Hook?" She whispered, almost silent.
"Thanks to your brother I now have a new body and with it a new future. But you two ladies better prepare for one hellish eternity!"
The other pirates roared as Luna fell to the floor losing her streght. Just what exactly was all she did for?"
"Take them away, Smee."
Luna and Cindilu were taken to the rooms below the ship so she didn't know what was going on and why the ship had seemed to hit something strong enough to shake it to the core. But seeing Smee's surprised eyes it seem no one did. Another shake and Smee took out his own gun as he pointed it to both girls smiling.
The end was near.
