Chapter 40 The legend of Pan

He was alone in the dark, with no one to help him.

The big scary pendulum continued to fall towards him, the fear that it would kill him never left him and with every movement it did it got worse. He knew he was being played with but it was out of his control.

He closed his eyes and the voice started to call him again.

"Peter."

He opened his eyes. There she was, still young, still innocent, still in her night clothes.

"Peter, I'm sorry, I must grow up."

The words that had cut him deep.

"Come with us, Peter."

He knew she would ask him, but he had too much pride, he wanted her to stay.

"I don't want to grow up."

"Peter, is it really okay?" His boys asked him worried, of course not, he wanted to say, but he silence his heart.

"If you wish it."

Then another girl appeared, she look a lot like Wendy, almost the same age as when she went to Neverland.

"Jane," he whispered, she smiled and left because one day she also decided to grow up.

Now he was alone again and the pendulum was mocking his fears. In all the hysteria he laughed, because he realized the amazing Peter Pan was just a scared little boy.

Then he saw his boys again before an explosion took them in front of him. Peter pulled at his chains as he yelled.

"Stop... I don't want to see... STOP!"

Silence followed as he again fell tired and mentally exhausted. He wanted it to stop, then among the silence something far away called his name.

"Peter, listen, it's Luna, Peter I..."

Luna…

Luna

He had his eyes closed, but he was trying to picture the young girl he had tried to have selflessly for himself.

"Whatever you're seeing is not real, it's only your fears!"

Oh, it was real to him because it was everything he had tried to hide away in his heart. So crazy was he, he was even using Luna's voice to console him. Peter felt pathetic.

"Please we need your help, we need the fairies. You need to tell them…"

The fairies? Why would he think of Luna saying that? Why would she say fairies? Something was not right. This Luna was different from the one he had taken to Neverland. She sounded concerned for him. The Luna he knew was cold towards him, always denying him everything, unlike sweet Wendy and Brave Jane.

"GET UP!"

That made him jump a little, the voice was stronger less dreamlike. Peter felt like he was split into body and soul trying to get back together. Why did Luna want him to get up? He was already awake, but trapped

"ARE YOU A COWARD OR ARE YOU GOING TO FIGHT THIS WITH US!"

He opened his eyes looking at the pendulum that had him quivering. He was no coward. He wanted to fight, but…

"Peter stay here with me." It was Wendy, she had appeared next to him in her still young age "Don't go to her, stay with me forever just like you wanted."

He had wanted that, so why did he need to fight?

"I'M CALLING YOU, PETER, WHY DON'T YOU ANSWER ME? ANSWER!

He shook his head trying to get his thoughts straight, but a fog covered his mind, something was wrong, what was it? He wanted to answer her, but he found something dark was pulling him deeper in his nightmare. He now faced Wendy who had put a hand over his chest as to stop him from trashing around.

"Stay with me Peter," she told him in a sweet voice.

"Don't leave me…"

"You're not my Wendy…" He told the girl. "My Wendy went back and grew up… she became a beautiful woman who even in her death bed still remembered my name and who kept her heart young forever."

Peter's eyes went wide as the fake Wendy broke and shattered.

"Don't go where I can't follow."

Luna… Luna needs me. I… I need to go.

Peter looked at the pendulum and with all that he had left pushed himself awake.

Something started to run around his body, he felt cold and then he was flying. The sky was in his vision again, he was free, he had gotten away. He was going up at all speed, as fast as he could. Feeling the cold wind he called the fairies to him, they would answer him, they would always follow him.

He looked down for a moment and saw Luna.

And then his heart gave a strong beat as he started to fall.

He was not sure of what had happened. He knew he had crashed in the snow, but was too confused. He could hear Luna calling him, so he tried to open his eyes and saw she looked scared and worried, she cared for him after all… he was not alone, she had not abandoned him and he felt warmth inside him filled with happiness

He opened his mouth trying to tell her something.

"What? I can't hear you."

"Thim… ble," he whisper as he could.

"What? Pete, I don't get it. Thimble? What thimble?"

Peter pulled her hair down so she could get closer to him as he tried again.

"I... wanted to give you... one."

He was out of energy as he faded back to the darkness of sleep.

And yet he could still hear her.

Why was she sad?

Why was she crying?

What happened? Who made her sad? Who made her cry?

"Pete, you can't die..."

But I'm sleeping I'm not dead… Am I dying?

"I still haven't told you… I haven't told you that I remembered, I can fly now... a little but it's no fun without you."

Luna could fly? That was great, he wanted to smile, but he could not feel any part of his body.

"You told me you would show me around Neverland, you asked me never to leave you, but I never told you how I felt about it."

She would leave him; he was happy she cared for him, but he knew better than to hope for her to stay with him.

The boys, they need you, they… "

The boys? They were alive? They were okay… then Alexis had kept his promise…

"Peter, I need you! Did you hear me? I need you. I believe in you, Peter. Please hear me! Please believe me!"

"PETER WAKE UP! PLEASSEEEE!

Peter tried to call her to tell her he was okay, but why did he feel so weak? He wanted to move, to open his eyes, to hold her and hug her and make her smile again.

Then he heard the words he had never dreamed he would hear and a spark of gold covered his heart and soul as the pocket watch had started to move once again.

"I love you, Peter."

The wind blew on the snow covered forest. Luna was gone, taken by the black pixie shadows and a boy was left alone. A boy no longer in his older appearance.

The body of a boy lay there covered in a gold shine.

A pair of brown eyes opened to a world changed and forgotten.

As he moved his arm the golden dust that covered him reunited there forming a small body that held his hand as he slowly got up.

He gave a strong and wide smile, eyes shining.

He flew away following the path of the pixies he had called and crossed the other world.

A small group of boys stood wide eyed when the fairies had come to their rescue, but with no sign of Luna they began to feel worried, but then the fairies moved in one rhythm towards the now floating Jolly Roger.

Atop of the veils stood a proud boy in green leaves and in his shoulder a small golden shine that took the formed of a pixie. A silver glow joined him as Silver Bell surrounded him.

"Promise me one thing," he said, voice serious, eyes upon his boys.

"Hook is mine."
