Chapter Forty:
This wasn't happening. Not again.
Robin worked feverishly to untie her wrists and get out of there. She almost had them free when Jason woke up. He was tied up on the floor near her and it appeared they were in some cabin somewhere.
"Jason! Wake up!" she said as her hair fell in her face and the sweat pored in her eyes.
He slowly woke up and immediately sat up.
"Robin? You okay?"
"I will be as soon as I get free," she said and finally got the ropes off and untied her feet. She scrambled to him and untied him quickly before they went to leave.
"Wait!" Jason said and stopped her.
"What? We need to go, now!" Robin said.
"It's a trap. When has Helena ever left us unattended or able to get free?"
Robin sighed and wiped her eyes.
"I don't know and I don't care. I can't do this again, Jason. I just got back and am rebuilding my relationship with Emma. I am not sitting here and waiting for whoever the fuck took us. I'm leaving with or without you."
He sighed and looked around for a weapon of some sort and didn't see anything. He looked at her when they heard a noise and he quickly pulled her behind him.
A man walked in and Jason and Robin stared at him.
"Who the hell are you?"
"You hurt my Sabrina and killed her baby. You need to suffer," he said and walked to Robin.
Jason shoved him away and Robin realized quickly this wasn't about Helena.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Carlos and I love Sabrina. You destroyed the beautiful woman who never had a mean bone in her body and now she is miserable and sad and lonely. She only talks about how her life was ruined because of you and it's time you paid. I just want her to smile again. I just want my sweet Sabrina to be mine again."
Jason looked at Robin and he saw the guilt on her face.
"You're crazy and we're leaving," he said and looked at Robin.
"I was being held prisoner while Sabrina made a home with my husband and my daughter. She wasn't pining for you and up until this moment I never heard of you. If you knew anything about me at all, you would know how horrible I felt about little Gabriel. I would never hurt a baby and I would never do anything to cause any kind of injury like that. My God, my daughter and husband were in that car. I'm so sorry for their loss, but I would never have intentionally hurt anyone. I stayed away when Patrick needed me the most so nothing more would happen. Now I am trying to get home and help a little boy who is very sick and needs Patrick's help. I am not about to let one more person suffer because of me, so you need to let us go right now."
Carlos pulled his gun out and pointed it at Jason.
"I texted your wife and your ex husband and told them I had you. I think it will be fun to see them work together to try and figure out what happened to you. By that time, it will be too late and you'll both be dead. Maybe they can rekindle a spark."
Robin walked in front of Jason and glared at Carlos.
"I remember meeting you before," she said as the memory came back. "When I came back to PC and was trying to work in the lab, you came in and didn't know who I was. We spoke for a minute and you left. You were probably sent by Sabrina then, too."
Carlos nodded.
"Your idiot ex husband kept thinking you were alive. I checked it out and that was that."
Robin felt her anger grow. So many people were working so hard to see to it that she never got her life back.
"Who do you think you are? Do you know what Patrick and Sam have been through the past few years? They lost us both and it almost killed them. This is absurd and I'm not here for you to play hero. If you are in love with Sabrina, then go romance her and show her you're someone who will put her above all the rest. What do you think this is going to achieve? You're going to murder me and Jason to make her feel better? Is that going to bring Gabriel back? This is sick and wrong and I'm done."
Carlos was stunned when she took Jason's hand and they walked out.
Jason was moved by her plea and he knew Carlos would be after them. He looked around at the woods they were in and he pulled her to an area shielded buy trees.
"Don't move. I'm going to find help."
"No!" Robin was shaking, the emotions and fear overwhelming to her. "I'll come with you."
"No. It's dangerous and you are still getting over everything. You need to stay here and I'll get help."
"No, please," she said and Jason ran off.
"Okay, you're going to be okay," she said to herself. She heard a noise and saw Carlos looking for her. Her heart was in her throat and she ran further into the woods to hide.

"Why are we here?" Sam asked Patrick as they were in the Stone Cates wing of the hospital.
"This was the last place Robin was seen. She came to see Mark and Aaron and I think that's what she wanted to talk to me about. I need to know if they know where she was headed."
"Mac and Anna said we should stay put. What if they call again?"
"I am not sitting and waiting. I will find her and bring her home. If you want to go home, then go. I'm not sitting around."
They walked to Aaron's room and Patrick walked in. He immediately realized what was happening. Mark stood up as his son was asleep and he smiled at Patrick.
"Can you help him? Robin said you might be able to help. Did you see his scans?"
Sam looked irritated and crossed her arms.
"Do you know where Robin is? Was there a handsome man with her?"
Mark looked at Patrick and he shook his head.
"Um, no, I was just waiting for some news on my son."
Patrick looked at Sam.
"Why don't you wait in the hall for a minute."
Sam sighed and walked out.
"He has brain lesions and I know it's lymphoma, but Robin was hopeful maybe you would have an idea for treatment. Please. He's only nine and he's everything to me."
Patrick looked at the father and son and couldn't imagine what it would do to him if Emma was so sick. He also knew Robin would want him to help.
"Of course. I'll go over his scans and see if there is anything I can do. Surgery probably isn't advised and to be honest, it's not something that would help. We need to work on a mix of meds and for that, Robin is awesome to help."
"So you can consult with her, right?" Mark pleaded.
Patrick felt his panic growing.
"I will do whatever I can. You just try to hold on and keep the faith, okay?"
Mark wiped his eyes and nodded.
"I will. Thank you. Please let me know as soon as you have any ideas."
Patrick nodded and walked out, taking a deep breath.
"What does he know?" Sam asked him.
"Aaron has AIDS and he is showing signs of lymphoma in his brain. That's what happened to Stone before he died. Robin must be beside herself," he said brokenly.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but we can't help him right now. Where is she? Did he know anything?"
Patrick took a deep breath and shook his head.
"No. He knows nothing about this."
"So now what?" Sam asked.
Patrick sighed.
"I don't know."

Jason saw the road wasn't too far away and he knew he could get a car to stop. He went back to get Robin and saw Carlos was lurking in the area.
He waited and made his way to where he left Robin but she wasn't there.
Shit.
He saw Carlos again and he jumped out, punching him and knocking him to the ground.
"Where is she? What did you do to her?"
Carlos glared at him.
"What are you talking about? I didn't do anything. You walked out with her and you can't find her?"
Jason went to look around and Carlos grabbed him, both of them grappling on the ground until Carlos reached for his gun. They fought longer when Jason grabbed it and shot Carlos, killing him.
Jason sat there, catching his breath before he stood up.
"Robin? Robin? It's safe, please come out!"
He waited but she didn't come out. He saw Carlos had a phone and he grabbed it, calling Sam.
"Who is this?" she asked.
"Sam? It's me. You need to pick me up."
Sam looked at Patrick.
"It's Jason."
Patrick grabbed the phone.
"Is Robin there? Let me talk to her," he demanded.
"She isn't here. She was, but I left her and I don't know where she went. You and Sam need to get here and help me find her."
He was beyond angry.
"You left her alone? What does that mean?"
"I'm not here to argue with you. I don't' know here we are, so have someone run GPS on the phone and get here. I'm going to look."
Patrick looked at Sam.
"We need to run a locator on the phone," he said and she nodded, taking his phone and calling Spinelli.
"Look around," Patrick said. "Do you recognize anything? Is Robin hurt?"
"I don't think so. I'm going to look. I need to go," Jason said and hung up.
"Fuck!" Patrick yelled. "He is such an arrogant asshole."
Sam was writing something down and looked at him.
"This is the general area. You drive and I'll call the police."
Patrick nodded and they ran out.

Robin was shivering as the rain began to come down. She heard a gunshot and she prayed it wasn't Jason, but she wasn't going to come out.
She wouldn't underestimate Helena and the fact this might be a smoke screen to get her was a real possibility.
She had run pretty far and was a bit lost in the woods, but she felt safe enough that she was hidden from view. It was one of the benefits of being tiny. She fit pretty nicely into small spaces.
She was tired and achy, but she was shielded enough from the rain that she wasn't getting soaked. She was so worried about little Aaron and she couldn't help but think of Stone. Lymphoma was the beginning of the end and 20 years later, she knew there had to be more out there to help him. She also knew Patrick would help if there was anything he could do.
Patrick. She had really hurt him by turning him away earlier, but she just didn't trust herself. She needed to know it was real and she wasn't sure. She also knew that it was stupid to waste any more time because she didn't know how much she had.
Maybe she was wrong to push him away. If she hadn't, she might be in the hotel and in his arms right now.
She hid and waited for the right moment to run. She had to be sure it was safe.
XXXX
Patrick and Sam arrived at the wooded area with the police not far behind. They ran to the cabin area and saw Jason.
"Sam?" Jason called out and she ran into his arms.
"Oh thank God," she said as she kissed him. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I can't find her. I looked, but I can't find her."
"How could you leave her alone?" Patrick asked him. "What were you thinking?"
Jason sighed and nodded.
"She begged me not to leave but I had to try and get help. I put her where she would be hidden but when I went back, she was gone."
Patrick was beside himself.
"Who took you?" Sam asked.
"Carlos. He's over there," Jason said and the police went to the body.
Patrick froze.
"Carlos? Oh my God."
"He said it was to punish Robin for what Sabrina went through. We got away because Robin got to him, but then he came after us and we struggled. I shot him."
The cops came over and looked at Jason.
"You need to come to the station and answer questions."
Sam looked at him and nodded.
"I'll come with you."
"I'm not laving until we find Robin," Jason said.
Patrick felt the rain come down harder and turned to the officer.
"Can I borrow a flashlight?"
The officer nodded and Patrick looked at them.
"You guys go. I'll find Robin."
Sam watched him leave and turned to Jason.
"Come on, let's go make sure you're okay."
Jason watched Patrick and sighed.
"Okay," he said and went with her to the car.
Patrick ran off into the woods and was determined to find her.
He would not let her down again.
