Chapter Fifty-Eight:
"No! Let me go!" Patrick screamed and felt soft hands on his shoulders.
"Patrick? It's okay. Can you look at me?" Robin asked as she stroked his cheek. It was hard to find a spot that wasn't bruised. She had been watching him for about an hour and he hadn't stirred. She was glad he was awake.
"Robin?" he tried to move and moaned.
"Yes, we're safe, but you need to stay still. I don't think I will be able to get help until the morning."
He blinked and his eyes filled with tears.
"I need to sit up," he said and she nodded. She propped her bag against a piece of wood and wrapped her arms around his torso, pulling him to a seated position. He held his breath and she took his hand, checking his pulse.
"Just breathe," she said softly. "You're doing great."
He nodded and exhaled, the room staying still. Everything began to rush back through his mind.
"You rescued me? You risked your life to walk back into that hell hole?"
Robin took a bottle of water and held it up for him to sip.
"There is no way I would let that bitch win. She needs to be stopped."
Patrick swallowed the water and reached for her hand.
"Thank you."
She shrugged and wiped her eyes.
"We just need you to get to the hospital. I'm sure you have some broken ribs and who knows what else. They had the machine set up there. Did they shock you?"
"I don't think so. She tried, but I think something distracted her," he held her gaze and his chin quivered. "It was probably you."
He was feeling stronger and he moved his arms, looking at his wrists.
"How did you find me?"
"I went to the police station and I took the address the police had from the description of the car. I was able to recall a bit of info and they traced the GPS until it went off. I grabbed a bag of supplies and a scissors and I took the car and left. I parked it a little ways away and left my phone so nobody would trace me into the building. When I went back, they had torched the car. It's all burned and my phone is gone, too. My only hope is that my mom or uncle trace the GPS on my car and find us."
He was floored and felt his eyes fill with tears.
"How could you do this alone? You could have been killed. Why didn't you ask for help? You should have called Jason," he smiled. "I realize that sounds hypocritical, but at least he's good in a fight."
Robin was quiet and he squeezed her hand.
"I'm just teasing," he said softly and looked at her, realization dawning on him.
"You did call him, didn't you?"
She wiped her eyes and nodded.
"Sam probably told him to leave it alone, right?"
Robin sighed.
"He had no way to help me and he has a life to get back to. Besides, I'm a pretty capable adversary, too. I wasn't going to lose you. Not again."
Patrick was at a loss.
"Why? I never did that for you. I never saved, Robin. What did I do to deserve your love? I mean, my God, you walked back into the scene of the terror you endured."
She smoothed his hair back and smiled.
"You're wrong. You have saved me in so many ways. You gave me something to hold onto all those months in captivity. You gave me memories to cherish. You blessed me with a daughter who is the definition of beauty and strength. You loved me in a way that allowed me to believe in my worth and even though we didn't have happily ever after, we had a beautiful love story. That saved me. You saved me."
His chin quivered as he looked at her face and the love he felt was overwhelming to him.
"I'm sorry. I don't know how else to say it. I am just so sorry."
"But that's just it. I endured. I survived and now I am living my life and remembering who I am. When they took you right in front of me, I had one thought in my mind. It wasn't to run and hide, but to get to you. I was furious that these pigs once again came after me. It didn't matter what I had to do. I just had to get to you."
Patrick reached to her face and stroked her cheek.
"I love you. I know that seems weak, and too little too late, but I love you."
She covered his hand with her own.
"I love you, too. We are going to get out of here."
He sat back and closed his eyes, exhausted.
She fixed the fire and sat there, her mind running. It wasn't long before she lay down and let sleep take over.

"You let her go? You listened to her and walked away?" Anna yelled at Jason and Sam. She knew Robin had gone out there alone and Mac was running a trace on her car.
"I wasn't sure what to do. She wanted my gun, but I didn't give it to her. I am here telling you so we can find her."
"It's my fault," Sam said. "I didn't know how to help and I should have."
"You were with Patrick for a while. How could you just turn your back on him?" Anna asked.
"How did you? All of you turned your back on Robin and now we are doing the same. We need to find them before Obrecht does more damage," Jason said.
Mac came back in and his face was pale.
"They found her car."
"And?" Anna asked.
"It's burned to a crisp. They are looking for signs of anyone being there. No body was discovered in the car."
"Let's go," Anna said and Jason nodded.
"No way," Mac said to him.
"You can let me go or I'll just follow you. Either way, I'm helping."
Mac sighed and nodded.
They all ran out.

Robin sat with Patrick and talked to him while he was in and out of consciousness. She was terrified that he was in trouble and she didn't know how to get him help.
She didn't know what Obrecht had out him through in the time she had him, but she knew it was terrible. She smiled as he opened his eyes again.
"You look so beautiful in the light of the fire," he said softly.
She smiled as she held his hand.
"You know what I was thinking about?"
He closed his eyes and exhaled before he looked at her.
"What's that?"
"The first time we were in a cabin together."
He smiled.
"I really, really enjoyed that."
She laughed.
"Me too."
"Don't worry so much. I'm going to be fine," he said softly.
She nodded and flicked a tear from her eye.
"I know."
"So let's talk about something else. Tell me how sexy I look right now."
"Well, that shade of black and blue really brings out your eyes."
He smiled and then was out again. She let more tears fall and prayed they would get help soon. She was missing meds and she felt a little spaced out by everything. She wasn't okay, not by a long shot. Being back in a room like she found him in brought so much back to her mind, but she simply couldn't process that now.
She shivered and moved a little closer to the fire.
She would sit there all night and watch him.
