What's up, people? First, I'd like to see Merry Christmas to all of those that celebrated, and happy Hanukah (sorry if it's misspelled) to those that celebrated. Second, Happy New Year! Going back to Kalos Adventure, Brooklyn was given a Gogoat next chapter and is going to try and have a more serious relationship. This chapter will be taking place during Brooklyn's contest while chapter 32 will be highlighting the contest. Also, Owen will be carrying seven Pokemon with him because of Charizard's limited role, which will explain why he won't have any Pokemon with Professor Sycamore. Now there's nothing else for me to say, so let's get going!
Guest: Thanks for reading all of my stories, I really appreciate the support :) As for the poll, thanks for the response, that definitely makes a compelling argument for Pikachu evolving
Defender31415: I really wanted to give Gogoat to Owen, but he's already caught five Pokemon compared to Brooklyn's two (three now), and Gogoat brings some much needed strength to Brooklyn's team, which is going to get really strong within the next two arcs. And Ariel's reaction will be interesting, to say the least ;)
Guest: Wow, that's really high praise. Thanks! And note taken. I figured not having Pikachu evolve would bother some readers because it would be similar to Ash, and I want to differentiate Owen's team from Ash's. I really love writing battles with Pikachu because of his speed, but Raichu could be an equally interesting battler
MCMXCV: Yeah, Gogoat is really going to help Brooklyn and the Coumarine Contest is going to be pretty interesting, given the contestants and who wins
Emboar-Man (guest): Reading your review sold me on the idea of Pikachu evolving, but I'm pretty sure Raichu doesn't learn any moves
FlameStriker123: Merry belated Christmas and thanks for the compliment! And Eddy will not be getting a Pokemon because he's only eight. Though if he does, it will most likely be near the end of the story. If I decide that he will get one, I have a pretty interesting idea of what it will be
Dragon66: It's great to see you're back! hopefully you're doing well and you had a happy holiday :) Hopefully you can review more often!

"Are you sure you'll get there on time? You better not be late!" Brooklyn threatened Owen as he sat at his table in the dining area of the Pokemon Center with all of his Pokemon, who were celebrating Butterfree's return. After a heated argument with Professor Sycamore, the man gave in to Owen's rationale and allowed him to carry Butterfree because of Charizard sitting out of battles against weaker trainers.
"Don't worry, we'll be there on time and we won't miss a second of your performance," Owen assured his fellow teenager. "Besides, you'll do great anyway." Brooklyn blushed at the assurance while Owen took a swig of his water, and he rose from his seat after paying the bill. "All we're doing is checking out the training area, and Charizard will fly me to the contest."
"Fine," Brooklyn muttered. "Eddy, Cindy, we're going," the blonde ordered as if she were their mother. The younger kids followed Brooklyn out of the Pokemon Center while waving to Owen and his Pokemon, who quickly made their way out the other side of the Pokemon Center.
"Charizard, Frogadier," Owen called as he withdrew the five other Pokemon, "let's go check out the gym." The two starters looked at each other with confused expressions until Frogadier stopped Owen and began speaking.
"Froga-dier-dier," the frog warned as he pointed at his wrist, trying to signal that they'd be late to the contest. Owen brushed off the concern and continued walking though the city with his two Pokemon by his side.
"Relax. If Charizard Mega Evolves we'll get there in less than a minute, so we can take as long as we want," the naive teen from Kanto informed Frogadier, who shook his head at Owen's nonchalant attitude. While walking along the road and passing by a beautiful view of the water, Owen and his two Pokemon arrived at the gym. It was a large tree with a pair of red, automatic doors plastered on, giving it a rural feel.
"Rawr," Charizard commented as he looked over at Owen. The winged lizard's trainer nodded at his Pokemon's comment before heading off for his desired destination, and his starters followed.
"Ya know, Charizard, I'm going to have to get you in a gym battle or two before the league. That way your battling skills won't be so rusty," Owen joked, though his first Pokemon didn't take it lightly. Even if his trainer was making the lightest of jokes, no one, and I mean no one was allowed to make fun of Charizard's battling skills. If Owen weren't his trainer, Charizard would have charred him with a Blast Burn on the spot, but he restrained his desire.
The further the three walked down the road, the closer the woods became, which was exactly where they wanted to go. After a few minutes passed by, the three reached the woods and continued walking through the ridiculous amount of tree branches. Once they cleared through, Owen's eyes were mesmerized by a beautiful sea of green and hills, where Pokemon were running around playfully.
"Come on out, everyone!" Owen shouted, tossing the five Pokeballs on his belt into the air. Butterfree, Pikachu, Tyrunt, Hawlucha, and Gastly broke out of the objects, and they looked around at their surroundings. "I know it hasn't been long since our last training session, but I want you guys to be prepared for our next gym battle, which is going to be against grass types."
Butterfree celebrated upon the mentioning of the type, making everyone laugh while Hawlucha crossed his arms and waited for more information.
"I'm not totally sure what Pokemon the leader uses, but I know Butterfree and Hawlucha are going to be battling. Frogadier, Pikachu, Tyrunt, and Gastly, you're all going to compete for the third spot in the battle, because that's the only way I think this will be settled without any bias."
"Froga!/Chu!/Runt!" three of the four Pokemon exclaimed. Gastly, on the other hand, had a sad look take over her face. Owen noticed the lack of excitement from his newest Pokemon, so he decided he'd talk to her.
"Charizard, Hawlucha, Butterfree, I want you three to help Frogadier, Pikachu, and Tyrunt train. Gastly, stay here." Owen watched as the six Pokemon not named Gastly went off on their own and began practicing while the ghost type floated by him, still showing her disappointment. "What's the matter, Gastly?" the trainer asked his Pokemon.
"Gas-Gastly," the ghost replied lowly as she stared at the ground. Seeing this, Owen crouched to lock eyes with Gastly, who stared at the boy in front of her.
"I get you're concerned about not doing well enough to be picked for the gym battle, but I'm looking for how much effort everyone shows. None of you are the same level, so it's obviously going to be tougher for you because the others have been training for a longer time, but I know you can compete with them. Now you need to believe you can," Owen concluded as he patted Gastly on the head with a smile. The ghost and poison type looked up at the fifteen year old in awe. For being so young, Owen sure was wise. Now determined to prove to her trainer that she was capable of competing against the gym leader, Gastly flew off to the other Pokemon and jumped right into their workout.
"That was quite the speech, young man," a voice stated. As Owen turned around, he saw an old man with light skin and a white beard walking his way with a cane for support. He wore a green beany-hat and a red scarf along with a green button-up shirt and black pants, making him look like a plant. "You have quite the gift. Communicating with Pokemon effectively is a rare trait these days that many trainers from your age to mine lack."
"Thank you, sir. I'm Owen Plateau, by the way," Owen greeted as he extended his arm. The older man slowly shook it before placing his left hand back on his cane, and he smiled at the seven Pokemon that were training.
"My name is Ramos," the old man informed Owen. "Are those your Pokemon?" he asked, pointing his veiny finger at the group of Pokemon. Owen turned and sweat dropped when he saw Charizard shooting a Flamethrower at the others in an attempt to make them run/fly faster.
"Uh... yeah," Owen replied in embarrassment as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.
"They look very well trained. I'm looking forward to battling them whenever you decide to challenge my gym," Ramos told Owen with an innocent smile that was common amongst the elderly.
"You're the Coumarine City gym leader?" Owen asked in shock, making Ramos laugh.
"Just because I'm old doesn't mean I can't hold my own in battle. But to answer your question, yes. I am the gym leader of this fine city," Ramos replied while waving his right arm around. "Feel free to stop by my gym whenever you get the chance," he told Owen while turning to walk away. The teen nodded at the old man's words before calling for his Pokemon.
"I've decided on who won the third spot in the gym battle," the teen informed his Pokemon, who waited anxiously. "Gastly, it's you!" Owen exclaimed, making the ghost beam. Tyrunt, Pikachu, and Frogadier frowned in disappointment but the first two still cheered for their teammate. Frogadier, meanwhile, was so frustrated he hurled a Water Pulse blindly. The attack struck a Scatterbug in the distance, drawing attention from the other Pokemon in the garden.
"Froga," Frogadier muttered under his breath as he didn't realize what he had done.
"Rawr," Charizard stated sternly as he shook his head at the younger Pokemon. Frogadier continued to pout, but he stopped when a series of green arrows flew towards him. With quick reactions from everyone, the attack only struck the ground. Once he realized that the attack wasn't from one of his Pokemon, Owen looked around for the attacker, but only saw the injured Scatterbug slinking towards the woods.
Suddenly, a group of Pokemon marched out of the trees while holding a bed made out of sticks over their heads. The Pokemon, all Bellsprout, made their way to Owen and his Pokemon while leaves covered something sitting on top of the bed. After the Bellsprout placed the bed on the ground they backed away and the leaves began to shake.
"What's going on?" Owen asked his Pokemon, who were all just as confused as he was. Suddenly, the leaves were thrown into the air and a tiny figure stood in front of Owen. It had dirt brown skin and a green cap on its head, and it had stubby arms and feet.
Owen took out his Pokedex while the Pokemon began yelling at him, and the device scanned the angry Pokemon.
"Chespin, the Spiny Nut Pokemon. The quills on its head are usually soft. When it flexes them, the points become so hard and sharp that they can pierce rock." Owen looked up from his Pokedex and saw the pins on Chespin's head had become incredibly sharp, and the cute Pokemon was pointing at Frogadier while screaming.
"Hold on a second. Frogadier hasn't done anything wrong, so what's the problem?" Owen inquired while Frogadier hid behind his teammates. Chespin continued yelling, making a scene that all of the other Pokemon paid attention to. What really caught Owen and his Pokemon by surprise was all the Pokemon bowing to Chespin, who was glaring at Owen.
"Pin! Chespin-Ches!" Chespin barked before turning around and waving for a Pokemon. Slowly, the Scatterbug that was hit by Frogadier's Water Pulse crawled over to Chespin. The grass type pointed at the bug and then waited for Owen to respond.
"So Frogadier hurt that Scatterbug?" the trainer asked. Chespin nodded emphatically, making Owen take a deep breath as he motioned for Frogadier to come forward. The water type slowly moved forward and he locked eyes with the tiny grass type until Owen made a proposition. "And you want to battle to settle this?"
"Pin," Chespin responded. The grass type continued staring at Frogadier, who looked to be energized by the idea of battling.
"Froga," Frogadier said to Chespin and his teammates, making them flock to the side while Chespin took several steps backwards. The two Kalosian starters continued their stare down as Owen and his Pokemon got settled, and the residents of the forest watched on as Chespin spoke to them, presumably assuring a victory.
"You get the first move, Chespin!" Owen shouted to the grass type as Chespin finished his speech. The tiny Pokemon nodded at Owen respectfully before charging towards Frogadier at a surprisingly fast speed.
"Ches!" the unevolved Pokemon cried as he began to roll and pick up speed. Owen and his Pokemon gasped in shock as Chespin zipped across the grass and created a trench where he passed over.
"Frogadier, use Quick Attack to dodge!" Owen countered without fear. Frogadier grinned and sprinted away from Chespin who, after missing the Rollout attack, turned around and began to spin towards Frogadier once again. Seeing that Chespin wasn't going to let up, Owen knew he and Frogadier would have to change the tempo of the battle so it'd sway in their favor. "Now use Round!" As Chespin closed in on Frogadier, who had stopped moving, Frogadier began to hum loudly while his stomach flashed white. Suddenly, a burst of energy flew out of his mouth and it swallowed Chespin before launching him into the air.
"Ches-Ches!" Chespin roared as the spikes on his head began to glow a deep green. Once he flicked his head forward, Chespin fired several green arrows towards Frogadier, who was crushed by them.
"Frogadier!" Owen shouted as the water type dropped to one knee and grimaced. A green light spiraled around Chespin as he landed on the ground, and his bruises from the Round attack vanished, making Owen bite his bottom lip.
"Pin!" Owen snapped out of his worrying when he saw Chespin charge towards Frogadier, who still hadn't gotten up from the Mega Drain attack.
"Frogadier, dodge!" the fifteen year old commanded. The six other Pokemon that were Frogadier's teammates cheered - except Hawlucha - but Frogadier still wasn't responding, prompting Chespin to leap into the air. Suddenly, Chespin's right arm extended while glowing white and he slammed his arm over Frogadier's head, causing an explosion. After the smoke settled, Frogadier was laying on the ground with his face down, but he slowly got back up and grinned at Chespin before pounding his chest.
"Chesp," the small Pokemon muttered with a scowl. Frogadier's smug look was getting on his nerves, and he planned on ending this battle with one more attack, and that would make sure the dumb Pokemon and his trainer never came back to his forest.
"Let's give this everything we've got, Frogadier! Use Water Pulse!" Owen yelled while punching his the air in front of him. Frogadier nodded and formed a sphere of crystal clean water in his hands while Chespin planted his feet into the ground and began to grunt.
"Cheeeess," the wild Pokemon grunted as a large ball of green energy formed in front of his chest. "PIN!" With that, Frogadier and Chespin launched their attacks at one another, and they collided in-between the combating Pokemon. After a brief moment, Chespin's Energy Ball crashed through Frogadier's Water Pulse and engulfed Frogadier. The water frog was sent rolling backwards after the impact, and Owen quickly rushed to his side.
"Are you okay, Frogadier?" the trainer inquired as he tried helping Frogadier onto his feet. Frogadier nodded slowly and looked at Chespin, who was being showered with applause by the Pokemon from the forest. Frogadier slowly got up and brushed his teammates off as he walked over to Chespin, and the smaller Pokemon turned around once Frogadier was a few inches away from him.
"Froga," the water type said while extending a hand with a smile. Chespin looked at Frogadier's offer for a few seconds before nodding with his own smile.
"Pin." The two Pokemon shook hands before going their separate ways, but the peacefulness stopped when Owen looked at the time on his Pokedex.
"Oh crap! We have to get to the contest!" he screamed. "Everyone, return! Charizard, Mega Evolve Y and let's go!" After withdrawing all of his Pokemon and Charizard Mega Evolving, Owen hopped onto the winged lizard's back and they made their way towards the contest.
"Ches-Chepsin," Chespin stated as he watched Owen and Charizard fly away. He looked around at the other Pokemon from the forest and they nodded, making him smile and bow thankfully before chasing after the two.
There's the end of that, which took a lot longer than I thought. I'm hoping to put up another chapter sometime today, but I'm not sure if I'll have the time. So, Owen has decided on his team for his gym battle against Ramos, and Frogadier got his butt kicked by a wild Chespin, who will be following Owen to the Coumarine Contest. Till next time, peace out.
Next Chapter: Coumarine Contest: Even with new additions to her team, nerves still rattle Brooklyn and her Pokemon during their opening performance. With two rivals she has already met and a new one looming, will Brooklyn be able to win?
