Well, it's time for Owen's first full battle in the Kalos region! After just coming off a victory over Ramos, that included Chespin's debut and Gastly evolving, and now he has to duel Larenz. Let's get this started!

MCMXCV: Well thank you. I'll be aiming to make each gym battle better than the last, so I think the Lumiose gym is going to be pretty awesome (and possibly the best gym battle of the region)
The 6th Spectral King: At some point Charizard will get to battle against Owen's rivals, but that's still a little while away. And Sceptile certainly could return for the league. I don't think he'd be having a Mega Evolution, though

After Owen switched Hawlucha and Pikachu at the Pokemon Center, he stepped on to the battlefield and locked eyes with Larenz. The two teens were standing on opposite ends of the battlefield, each holding a Pokeball in their hand. Daniel was acting as the referee for the battle, and he began to announce the rules that had been discussed earlier.
"This will be a full battle between Larenz and Owen, where neither trainer may substitute his Pokemon until after each match! Now, choose your first Pokemon!" the sixteen year old told both trainers, who threw their Pokeballs at the same time.
"Go, Butterfree!"
"Umbreon, it's battle time!" The two trainers shouted at the same time as their Pokemon appeared from their spherical devices. Both Pokemon stood on all fours and prepared to lunge at each other, though they were holding off until Daniel spoke.
"So Owen's starting off with Butterfree. Interesting," Eddy said under his breath as he began to scribble down notes on his notepad, which was covered in crazy letters and arrows pointing in every direction. He had been writing about all of Owen's battles and what Pokemon he had used, knowing that it would come in handy at some point.
"This battle will be between Umbreon and Butterfree! Begin!"
"Umbreon, use Dark Pulse!" Larenz ordered while throwing his hand straight forwards, just like Owen normally did. Umbreon sprinted towards Butterfree at a breakneck pace before he leaped through the air and fired the spiraling ray of purple energy outlined with a thin black line.
"Fire a Psybeam to cancel it out!" Owen countered. Butterfree's antennae charged a beam of multicolored, telepathic energy that shot straight out and collided with the Dark Pulse. However, Umbreon continued to unleash his powerful STAB attack and it crashed through Butterfree's Psybeam, swallowing the butterfly and blasting it back towards Owen.
"Double Team!" As Butterfree flew back into the air Umbreon copied himself and circled the bug and flying type, who looked around at the overwhelming amount of Umbreon.
"Butterfree, spin and use Silver Wind!" Butterfree quickly spun like a top and flapped her wings, firing several blasts of silver crescents towards the several dark type copies. In a matter of seconds, Butterfree had hit each and every single one of the Umbreon, eventually striking the real one. The dark type cried out in pain after being hit by the super effective attack, but Larenz wouldn't let Umbreon sit and feel the pain.
"Get even with Payback!" Larenz shouted angrily. Umbreon quickly hopped up and lunged at Butterfree as he bit her while his mouth was glowing with black energy. Butterfree then fell from the air and landed on the ground, trying to get up despite not having enough energy to do so.
"Are you able to keep going, Butterfree?" Owen asked the injured Pokemon, who continued to try and push herself off the ground. The bug nodded back at her trainer and took to the air once again, though it was obvious that she had little to nothing left in the tank.
"Dark Pulse, Umbreon!" Owen's head snapped over towards Larenz as his rival's Umbreon fired a spiraling ray of dark energy, which crushed Butterfree and knocked her out of the air. Once she hit the ground, Butterfree's eyes were closed and her antennae were twitching, signaling the end of the battle.
"Butterfree is unable to battle! Owen, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Thanks for the effort, Butterfree." Owen zapped the powerful bug back into her Pokeball and eyed Umbreon. The eeveelution had out-sped Butterfree, leading to her defeat. The teen smirked as he grabbed his second Pokeball off his belt and enlarged it. Frogadier noticed the tiny lightning symbol on the ball and nodded before Owen threw it in the air. "Pikachu, you're up next!" Pikachu landed on the ground and dropped to all fours so he could stay at eye level with Umbreon while also increasing his speed.
"This battle will be between Umbreon and Pikachu! Begin!"
"Pikachu, use Quick Attack!" Owen commanded. Pikachu bolted towards Umbreon as a white light trailed behind him, and the tiny yellow rodent made his way across the battlefield and slammed into Umbreon headfirst. The collision was so powerful that it sent both Pokemon flying back, though Umbreon was the only one in pain.
"Answer back with Double Team and Dark Pulse!" Umbreon recovered quickly before multiplying, and he surrounded Pikachu just like he had done to Butterfree. This time, all the Umbreon pointed their heads in the air and charged their attacks, but Pikachu remained calm and waited for Owen to give him another command.
"Leap in the air and use Thunderbolt on all of them, Pikachu!" The yellow rodent shot into the air and unleashed several shots of electricity, though the Umbreon copies hopped out of the way of the attack before firing their own, which crushed Pikachu and sent him soaring through the air before he landed on Larenz's half of the battlefield.
"Now use Payback!" All ten of the Umbreon ran towards Pikachu while their mouths began emitting black energy, and they jumped at the Kanto Pokemon.
"Counter with your own Double Team and use Slam!" Before the dark type eeveelution could bite Pikachu, the electric type multiplied and they all slammed into the Umbreon, knocking the dark types back towards Owen's half of the battlefield.
"Fire a Dark Pulse once again, Umbreon!" Umbreon, who was standing by himself, nodded at his trainer and sprung as high as he could. The sheer height the four legged Pokemon jumped was nothing short of astounding, and he unleashed a tidal wave of spiraling black energy.
"Pikachu, make a ladder with your clones and hit Umbreon with Electro Ball!" The group of Pikachu did as they were told, with the real Pikachu standing on top, and he hopped off his clones as the dark energy destroyed them, and he flicked a ball of yellow electricity at Umbreon, who nimbly dodged the attack by charging towards his electric opponent.
"Finish this with Payback!" Umbreon suddenly bit Pikachu while his mouth was glowing black, and the electric type cried in pain before being thrown across the battlefield. Once he stopped rolling, Pikachu was clearly unconscious, and Owen bit his lip as Daniel raised his arms.
"Pikachu is unable to battle! Owen, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Umbreon, come back. Milotic, it's battle time!" Larenz yelled, much to everyone's surprise. Owen scowled when Larenz's second Pokemon took the battlefield, and the powerful Milotic simply stared down at Owen with a quiet confidence radiating from her body.
"You gave it all you had, Pikachu, thank you." The fifteen year old clipped Pikachu's Pokeball back on his belt, and he grabbed his third without even thinking. "Chespin, rock and roll!" The four spectators not taking part in the battle applauded Owen's decision as the tiny grass type materialized from his Pokeball.
"Great choice," Cindy complimented as Chespin hardened the spikes on his head in preparation of a physical attack from Milotic.
"Yeah, Chespin's really strong," Eddy commented.
"This battle will be between Milotic and Chespin! Begin!"
"Let's end this quickly, Milotic. Use Ice Beam!" Milotic immediately fired a zigzagging beam of light blue energy towards Chespin, who was more than quick enough to dodge the attack before he heard Owen's follow up order.
"Use Vine Whip and don't let up!" the Kantonian shouted. Chespin shot two vines out of his neck and began to whip Milotic as hard as he could, making the evolved water type cry out in pain until she slithered away from Chespin's vines. Despite his tiny stature, Larenz and Milotic sensed a gigantic source of strength from Chespin, who was smiling excitedly as the thrill of battle was pumping through his veins.
"Shoot a Water Pulse at the ground to sweep that pest away!" Larenz shouted, making Chespin stop his onslaught of attacks. The grass type pointed at Larenz and began shouting angrily as Milotic shot a ball of water at the ground, which turned into a wave and swept Chespin back towards Owen half of the battlefield.
"Chespin, I need you to focus on winning this battle," Owen told the small Pokemon as he continued to shout at Larenz for calling him a pest. The grass type scowled as he knew his trainer was right, and he began to charge towards Milotic. "Use Energy Ball!" Chespin hurriedly fired a green ball at Milotic, and the super effective attack struck the elegant Pokemon.
"Use Aqua Ring to restore your health!" Larenz told his Pokemon in a hurry, hoping that his Pokemon could last in battle longer than he expected. Owen, however, had a different mindset and planned on ending the battle as quickly as possible.
"Let's restore our health, too, Chespin! Land a Mega Drain!" The Kalos starter nodded with a smirk and the spikes on his head began to glow a dark green before several green arrows were shot into the air. As Milotic began to create a ring of water around her body, the green arrows Chespin fired crashed down on her and sapped her health. The arrows then turned into green orbs, and they circulated around Chespin's body until they disappeared, just like his bruises.
"Freeze them with Ice Beam!"
"Chespin, use Vine Whip to send yourself into the air!" Owen shouted right after Larenz. Chespin charged towards Milotic as she unleashed a wicked Ice Beam, but he planted his vines against the ground before he was launched into the air, and the tiny grass Pokemon began to spin like a wheel as he descended.
"Take Chespin out with Ice Beam!"
"Clobber 'em with Needle Arm!" Once again, Chespin's quickness proved to be key as his arm extended while glowing white, and he slammed it over Milotic's head, slamming the water type straight into the ground. Everyone gasped as Chespin landed on the ground and Milotic was down for the count, prompting Chespin to puff his chest out before he ran over to Owen and jumped into the trainer's arms.
"Milotic is unable to battle! Larenz, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Now that's how you stop the momentum!" Olivia exclaimed as she rose from her seat and threw her arms around excitedly. "That's one strong Pokemon Owen's got."
"Chespin, I want you to rest up," Owen told the grass type while zapping him back into his Pokeball. "Tyrunt, let's do this!" Frogadier and Charizard grinned as the prehistoric Pokemon took Owen's side of the field, but Larenz began to snicker, throwing Owen and his Pokemon off.
"Milotic, return. Kirlia, it's battle time!" Owen deadpanned as Larenz's third Pokemon squared off with Tyrunt, as he thought there was no chance of Kirlia standing up to Tyrunt in battle.
"This battle will be between Kirlia and Tyrunt! Begin!"
"Set the tone and use Bite!" Owen ordered while pointing at Kirlia. Tyrunt nodded and darted towards the Hoenn Pokemon while snapping his jaws with every step he took, trying to intimidate his opponent.
"Psychic," Larenz ordered calmly. Kirlia's eyes flashed blue and she lifted her arm in the air slowly. A thin line of blue energy surrounded Tyrunt's body as he was lifted in the air, and he began to flail violently, making Kirlia smirk. "Throw it straight into the ground." Kirlia whipped her arm down, and Tyrunt smacked against the ground harshly, and he slowly got back on his feet with a grimace.
"If we can't attack them from close range, we'll hit 'em from a distance," Owen said to himself confidently. "Fire and Ancient Power, Tyrunt!" Tyrunt slammed his right foot on the ground as five rocks began to revolve around the t-rex's body, and he roared as they flew towards Kirlia.
"Cancel them all with a series of Shadow Ball attacks!" Kirlia placed her hands together in front of her chest and several spheres of dark energy collided with the rocks Tyrunt had launched, and they blew through the Ancient Power. Tyrunt was then blasted towards Owen by each of the ghost type attacks, yet he still managed to get back up.
"Froga!" Frogadier cheered for Tyrunt, who didn't react to the encouragement.
"Keep it up a little longer, Tyrunt. Stealth Rock!"
"Use Psychic now!" Larenz shouted, knowing what Stealth Rock was capable of doing. Kirlia instantly lifted Tyrunt into the air and prevented him from using the problematic attack that was notorious for chipping away at the health of Pokemon, and then she threw Tyrunt straight into the ground. Owen quickly rushed to his Pokemon's side and cursed under his breath when he saw that Tyrunt was unconscious.
"Tyrunt is unable to battle! Owen, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Wow, that was crazy," Eddy remarked as he watched Larenz withdraw his Kirlia.
"Kirlia, come back. Meganium, it's battle time!" Owen's jaw dropped when Larenz sent out his fourth Pokemon, and the Meganium glared at Owen and Frogadier.
"Sorry, Tyrunt, that was my fault," Owen muttered as he zapped Tyrunt back into his Pokeball. After taking a deep breath, Owen looked down at Frogadier and grinned at the water type. "Frogadier, are you ready?"
"Dier!" Frogadier replied as he jumped onto the battlefield and locked eyes with Meganium, who scoffed at the water type.
"This battle will be between Meganium and Frogadier! Begin!"
"Meganium, take Frogadier out with Magical Leaf!" Meganium swiftly flung its neck from side to side, firing a series of leaves surrounded in a rainbow colored aura. As the super effective attack made its way towards Frogadier, the water type pressed his hands together and Owen barked an attack.
"Frogadier, block the Magical Leaf with Round!" Frogadier suddenly released a wave of white energy towards the leaves, but he wasn't strong enough to deflect them. Instead, the leaves plowed through Frogadier's attack and slashed his body several dozen times, making the water frog drop to one knee in pain as he was overwhelmed by the stinging sensation all over his body.
"Vine Whip!" Owen and Frogadier looked up only to see a vine crashing through the air and it was only a few feet away from Frogadier before Owen issued a counterattack.
"Use Smokescreen to get away!" Frogadier hopped back and slammed his fist against the ground, releasing a cloud of smoke that hid him from Meganium's view, but the grass starter didn't care about her ability to see. "Now use Quick Attack to get in close!" Frogadier shot out of the smoke at a breakneck pace and the spectators watched in awe as the frog was nearly invisible.
"Throw Frogadier with Vine Whip!" Larenz shouted. With perfect aim, Meganium managed to wrap her vines around Frogadier's limbs, immobilizing the lightning quick starter. Then, she flicked her vines upwards, sending Frogadier airborne and making him vulnerable to another attack.
"Frogadier, use Water Pulse!" Owen shouted, sensing Larenz was preparing yet another attack. Frogadier twisted around to regain his normal posture, and he created a ball of water in-between his hands as he fell back towards Meganium.
"Knock it out with Solarbeam!" The leaf around Meganium's neck began to glow bright white as she opened her mouth, and the grass starter from Johto unleashed a blast of solar energy that encapsulated Frogadier and sent him spiraling towards Owen. Once the water type hit the ground, Owen cursed for what seemed to be the millionth time of the battle, as Frogadier had fainted, leaving Owen with two Pokemon.
"Frogadier is unable to battle! Owen, choose your next Pokemon!"
"Thanks for the hard fought battle, Frogadier. Chespin, I need your help!" Owen shouted, resorting to using the Pokemon that had clearly carved his role as arguably the strongest on the team. Chespin happily took the field and waved to Owen's companions before locking eyes with Meganium.
"This battle will be between Meganium and Chespin! Begin!"
"Use Sunny Day, Meganium!" Meganium opened her mouth and shot a ball of fire into the sky, and it exploded at its peak. When it did, the sky was much brighter and the heat became more intense, so much so that everyone began to sweat. Meganium looked back down at Chespin and motioned for the smaller grass type to one up her, and Chespin was set on doing so.
"Chespin, use Rollout!" Owen commanded. Chespin started to roll like a wheel and he sped across the battlefield, but Larenz and Meganium weren't worried about the unevolved Pokemon. In fact, both began to laugh at Owen and Chespin's efforts before Larenz snapped his fingers. Meganium suddenly fired two vines at Chespin and smacked the brown Pokemon out of his attack and onto his back, presenting Larenz with an opening.
"Fire away with Solarbeam!" Meganium unleashed the most devastating Solarbeam she could without hesitation, leaving Owen little room for mistake. The experienced trainer had no issues dealing with the pressure, and he threw his right arm out to his side while calling to Chespin.
"Block it with Energy Ball!" Chespin launched a green orb as quickly as he could, and it somehow managed to stop Meganium's Solarbeam, which shocked the teen and his Meganium. The two quickly exchanged glances before nodding, and Meganium reared her head back once again.
"Use Vine Whip to launch yourself into the air!" Owen watched as Larenz and Meganium copied his tactic from earlier in the battle, and the fully evolved starter started to glide through the air and across the battlefield, making Chespin's eyes open wide.
"Knock her back with Needle Arm!" Owen shouted, not wanting Chespin to back down.
"Finish this with Body Slam!" Larenz yelled while punching the air. Meganium dropped at the speed of a missile while Chespin jumped up with his glowing arm, preparing to knock her back. Gravity, however, had different ideas. Meganium easily overpowered Chespin and the two crashed into the ground with Chespin taking the brunt of the damage, and a cloud of dust shot up. Once it settled, Owen stared at his fainted Pokemon and slowly pulled out the fainted Pokemon's Pokeball.
"Chespin is unable to battle! Owen, choose your last Pokemon!"
"Great job, Chespin, you were awesome."
"This is ridiculous. None of Owen's Pokemon are anywhere close to being as strong as Larenz's," Cindy said to Eddy, Brooklyn, and Olivia, who all nodded in agreement.
"Well, we should never count Owen out. After all, Haunter has a type advantage against Meganium, though Umbreon would be able to deal some serious damage," Eddy stated before sweat dropping at the latter portion of his words.
"I still have confidence in him. I've seen Owen do some incredible things before, so him winning wouldn't shock me in the slightest," Brooklyn told her traveling companions while Olivia watched on with intrigue.
"Haunter, I choose you!" Owen cried, chucking his sixth and final Pokeball forwards. The evolved ghost floated around and snickered before locking eyes with Meganium, who scoffed at Haunter. Feeling her blood boil, Haunter glared at the grass type until Daniel spoke up.
"This battle will be between Meganium and Haunter! Begin!"
"Shadow Punch!" Owen demanded as soon as Daniel finished speaking. Haunter happily wound her fist back and punched the air, sending a ghostly hand towards Meganium. The speed and ferocity of the attack kept Meganium from dodging, and she was blown back by the painful fist slamming into her face.
"Retaliate by grabbing Haunter with Vine Whip and slamming her against the ground!" Larenz barked, making Meganium get back up as quickly as she could. The grass type then shot her vines towards Haunter and they wrapped around her hands before she was lifted into the air and then smacked against the ground repeatedly, making the ghost grunt in anger and pain.
"Break free with Night Shade and then land a Payback!" Haunter looked up from the ground and her eyes flashed when she stared at Meganium, confusing the full evolved Pokemon. Suddenly, a vertical blade of purple energy sliced through the air and slammed into Meganium, making her lose her grip on Haunter. Upon the liberation of her hands, Haunter wound up once again before firing a black bullet of energy that spiraled through the air, making it even more powerful.
"Fire!" Larenz shrieked. Meganium unleashed another Solarbeam that easily destroyed the Payback attack and engulfed Haunter, launching the ghost back into Owen. The teen slowly rose to his feet and helped Haunter back up before she floated back onto the battlefield, and Owen began to think to himself.
"It doesn't look like Meganium's getting tired at all! Even with Haunter's strongest attacks nothing's happening. Well... I'm not giving in, and neither is Haunter!"
"Land another Shadow Punch!"
"Meganium, dodge it and use Magical Leaf!" After Haunter launched a dark hand towards Meganium, the large Pokemon attempted to dodge the attack but was unsuccessful in doing so, due to Shadow Punch having guaranteed accuracy. Meganium, however, fought through the pain and launched a flurry of rainbow shaded leaves at Haunter, and the ghost took the attack head on. Once it ceased, both Pokemon were ready to end the battle, as they were panting at an alarming rate.
"Haunter, use Shadow Punch and give it everything you've got!"
"Meganium, finish this with Magical Leaf!" The two Pokemon launched their attacks once again, each missing the other and then hitting the attacker, launching the two Pokemon into their trainers. Daniel looked at both fainted sides and shook his head disappointedly. He didn't want to see Larenz win, but he had to be decreed the winner.
"Both Pokemon are unable to battle! Larenz is the winner!"
"Thanks for the incredible effort, Haunter," Owen whispered to the fainted Pokemon before withdrawing her to her Pokeball. Once he stood up, he walked over to Larenz and forced himself to extend his hand. "Nice battle." Owen waited as Larenz stared at him and then looked down at Owen's hand before scoffing.
"You had no chance. Now stay out of my way, because I'm going to win the Kalos League." With that, Larenz left the premises and ventured on by himself, leaving a steaming Owen with the others.
"Wow, that was harsh," Daniel muttered to the others.
"Just you wait, Larenz. Once we battle at the Kalos League, I'll make sure I win, and I won't show any mercy!"
Damn, Owen got his ass kicked, losing 6-2! Now that his first full battle is out of the way, Owen will only be spending a little more time in Coumarine before we move on to the next arc. Till next time, peace out.

Next Chapter: "A Mega Crossover!": As Owen and co. wrap up their time in Coumarine City, they meet a teen named Jack, who's aspiring to be a gym leader in the Hoenn region. When Jack's Pokeball is stolen by a thug after he challenges Owen to a battle, will the gang be able to stop the thief?
