What's going on, people? Last chapter, Owen and arena had a full battle, and Owen was walloped 6-1, with Chespin having the only victory, and that came against Milotic. Now we have a crossover chapter featuring Elodus' characters Jack and Tank, who are pretty awesome. If you like this chapter, make sure you check out Elodus' story "Life at the Fossil Gym", which is about a gym leader, Jack, and the challenges he has to face with acclimating to the gym life. It is a bit short, but it's really good, so check it out!
OPFan37: Lol. Owen's going to use Charizard after the Laverre gym, so there are going to be some really strong trainers he faces later in the story
guest: Don't worry, Frogadier is going to get a lot stronger these next few chapters, and thanks for the compliment about the full battles. Why exactly is this region's team your least favorite? I know I've done a pretty bad job showing off the personalities of the Pokemon compared to the last region or two, so is it a matter of them needing to show their personalities? Or is it because they're not as strong as the others? (At least, not yet they aren't)
MCMXCV: Thanks! Larenz is definitely going to give Brooklyn, Daniel, and Olivia a huge challenge when the Grand Festival rolls around, though he might not get to face all of them. And they won't be battling for a while, so there's definitely time for Owen's team to improve so that he can beat Larenz
Elodus: I've been looking forward to writing this chapter, too! Hopefully I can do a good enough job of portraying Jack
Defender31415: Yeah, Meganium can only learn Vine Whip from an Egg Move, but I didn't know that until after your review :P and Shadow Sneak is the one that always goes first
FlameStriker123: I'm glad to hear that, but there will only be one more full battle until the Kalos League, although I could always add one or two more. They're actually really tough to write, so I try to make sure they're spread out
SomeGuy (guest): Yeah, Larenz is the extreme rival Owen hasn't had yet and I do like pushing the lines with him, so I completely understand where you're coming from in regards to thinking it's too much. However, when you tell me to "Make him a character, not that asshole that is there to be an asshole", you really pissed me off. I've stated before that I will explain why he's like that, giving backstory to the character, and his purpose in the story is to push Owen as a trainer. Again, I do understand where you're coming from and his personality will begin to change for the better, and I appreciate the review
MTWKing: Well, a character from Kanto will be coming back soon, though it won't be Burt, as interesting as that could be. I think it'll be a pleasant surprise, though :)
MerlockVonBaron: Thanks for the support! Hopefully you'll enjoy the rest of the story

"I'm sorry, guys." The wind picked up and seemed to carry the quiet words to the Pokemon standing in front of the disappointed teen. Owen sighed as the Pokemon he had used in his battle with Larenz looked just as crushed as he did. Throughout their time trekking across Kalos, not one trainer had beaten them so badly and, for the most part, they were stronger than their opponents.
"Fweeh," Butterfree spat, knowing she should have taken Umbreon down, given her type advantage and being one of the highest levels on the team. A tiny hand patted her back and she turned to see Frogadier giving her a comforting smile.
"Chu," Pikachu announced, pointing at Chespin, who was caught off guard by the attention and praise. The other Pokemon all nodded and patted Chespin on the back for his efforts, and he beamed proudly. Even though he hadn't been with Owen for a week, Chespin was surprised to be so accepted by the others, which showed what kind of trainer Owen was.
"You guys are right. Everyone gave the battle everything they had, and there's nothing we can do about that except train and train and train," Owen began as he glanced at his six Pokemon while Charizard stood by his side and nodded, "until we get another shot at Larenz. And I have a good feeling that we'll get that chance sooner or later."
"RAAAAWWWWRRR!" Charizard boomed while shooting a burning Flamethrower into the air, amping up the six younger Pokemon as they began to cheer with each other. After they settled down, Owen withdrew five of his Pokemon while leaving Frogadier and Charizard out. The three looked around as the sun was setting, and they began to walk towards the restaurant they were going to eat dinner at.
"Froga-Frog-Frog," Frogadier said to Charizard as they walked next to each other, making the fire type laugh. Owen smiled, not because he knew what Frogadier was saying, but because his Pokemon were finally beginning to show each others their personalities. The fifteen year old and his starters continued their way down the street before walking into the restaurant, where Brooklyn, Cindy, Eddy, and Daniel were waiting. Olivia had left as soon as Owen's battle was over, but nobody really cared about her absence.
"Well look who finally decided to show up," Cindy joked as Owen sat down at the table while Charizard and Frogadier were returned to their Pokeballs. "How'd the talk go?"
"I think it went pretty well, actually," the Kantonian answered. "I've got a feeling that we're going to have a break through pretty soon." Silence fell over the table as the kids began to eat, and they soon finished with little left to say. It had been an eventful day with Owen's gym battle and then him facing Larenz, so they were all tired despite it only being dinner time. Once they paid the bill - and by they, I mean Owen - the trainers left the restaurant and made their way back to the Pokemon Center.
"You know how you were saying something about a breakthrough back at dinner? What did you mean by that?" Brooklyn inquired while bumping her elbow into Owen's side to get his attention while Daniel was talking with Eddy and Cindy.
"Uhmm..." Owen hummed, trying to explain his statement as clearly as possible. "I guess I meant that my Pokemon were going to get a lot stronger and start bonding. It's happened every time I've gone to a region, and I always get this feeling before it happens. It's some kind of trainer intuition, I guess." The taller of the two looked down at Brooklyn and gave a stupid smile, making her laugh and lean against him. When she did, Owen felt his stomach twist, and Brooklyn pulled away from him quickly with an embarrassed look.
"Hey! Get back here!" Owen and Brooklyn turned around and saw a pale, red headed, freckly faced teen sprinting after a skinny man dressed in all black with a ski mask on. "Give me back my Pokemon, you thief!" Owen's ears perked up when he heard the teen describe the man as a thief, and he began to run towards the man, who turned to the right to avoid Owen. Daniel was quick to follow after Owen to back him up just in case something went down.
"Charizard, Frogadier, come on out!" Owen shouted as he continued to run and gain ground on the thief. Charizard appeared in the sky while Frogadier was on his back, and the two spotted the man their trainer was chasing. "Frogadier, stop that guy with your frubbles!" Frogadier nodded and Charizard zipped through the air, giving the water type the perfect angle. Frogadier quickly grabbed some of the foamy bubbles on his neck and chucked them at the thief, and they hit. The man's feet were stuck to the ground, and he face planted as Owen, Daniel, and the pale boy caught up.
"Did you really think you were going to get away with this, you scum?" the unfamiliar boy interrogated as he ripped the man's ski mask off, revealing his scarred face and white eyes. He then ripped the Pokeball out of the man's hands and smirked as the police were called. "Hey, thanks for stopping this guy. I'm Jack," the redhead greeted.
"The name's Daniel London."
"I'm Owen Plateau, and these are my starters," Owen replied, pointing at Frogadier and Charizard, both of whom nodded at Jack. The older teen's eyes were suddenly fixated on Charizard, and he grinned while tossing his Pokeball and catching it repeatedly.
"Is that your Charizard? It looks a little too strong for a beginning trainer," Jack asked, knowing that Owen wasn't actually a rookie.
"Yeah, Charizard's was my starter when I competed in Kanto five years ago. He's probably the strongest Pokemon I've had," Owen replied, sensing some kind of eagerness from Jack. He wasn't sure why, exactly, but he had a feeling he was going to be challenged to a battle.
"That makes a lot of sense. Me and my Pokemon have been traveling together for a couple of years, too. Why don't we see which one's stronger?" the redhead proposed, making Owen grin excitedly.
"Let's do it."
000
After they arrived at the Pokemon Center, everyone went to the back of the building and occupied one of the battlefields. The lights were burning intensely and gave the impression that the sun was still up. Owen had called all of his Pokemon out of their Pokeballs and they watched their trainer and Charizard walk into the trainer box. Jack had stepped into his at the same time and continued tossing his Pokeball in the air with a grin.
"This will be a one versus one battle between Owen and Jack! Once one Pokemon is unable to battle, the battle is over! Send your Pokemon out, guys!" Cindy told the two trainers. Without a word, Charizard slowly walked onto the field and roared intimidatingly, though Jack wasn't flustered by the fire type.
"Arrow, let's give this all we've got!" the older boy called as he threw his Pokeball. In a burst of light, an Aerodactyl zipped through the air and screeched before finally landing in front of Jack and licking his face, making the trainer laugh. Arrow then turned and nodded at Charizard and noticed the metallic sleeve on the lizard's arm, where two colorful stones were located. Owen and Charizard noticed a small sleeve on the prehistoric Pokemon's neck and there was a stone in the middle of it, which shocked Owen.
"Jack, what do you say to a Mega Evolution battle?" Owen inquired, hoping the pale older boy would say yes.
"I thought you'd never ask," Jack shot back, intimidating Owen slightly. "Arrow, Mega Evolve!"
"Charizard, Mega Evolve X!" Owen shouted strategically. By having Charizard lose his flying typing, rock moves wouldn't be nearly as effective, though they'd still hurt mightily. The two Pokemon roared as they were enveloped in balls of light, and their bodies began to transform. Once the light faded, Arrow had grown dozens of black spikes on his wings, tail, and face. Charizard, meanwhile, had his skin turn black while blue flames streamed out of his mouth.
"Wow," Eddy gasped alongside Brooklyn and Daniel, who were also in shock.
"I can't believe both of them can use Mega Evolution. That's incredible," Daniel muttered to himself, his eyes locked on the two Pokemon whose power was just flying off their bodies.
"Owen, you get the first move," Cindy informed her traveling partner, who nodded in response before turning back to his Kalosian Pokemon and grinning. They all waved back excitedly, and he nodded.
"Charizard, use Flamethrower!" Owen shouted, waiting to see how much stronger Charizard would be. Even though they had been toying with Mega Evolution, Charizard had only used it to see his flying speed and which of his stats had increased, which he learned from Owen's Pokedex. The black and blue (not as in bruising) lizard reared his head back before shooting a blue wave of twisting flames towards Arrow.
"Dodge and use iron Head, Arrow!" Jack yelled while stomping on the ground and closing his hand. The rock and flying type disappeared in the blink of an eye before reappearing twenty feet in the air. Arrow then tucked his wings into his sides and he sped towards Charizard while his head began to glow silver, almost as if he had turned into iron.
"Don't back down, Charizard! Slam into Arrow with a spinning Aerial Ace!" Charizard flapped his wings powerfully and zipped towards Arrow as he began to spin like a drill. As he was doing so, streaks of light began to fly off Charizard's head, and they spiraled around his body as the fire and dragon type closed in on his winged opponent. The two Pokemon collided at full speed and sparks of energy flew off their bodies and into the air.
"That's so much power," Brooklyn commented in awe as Charizard and Arrow continued to battle back and forth. The sparks of light began to explode in the air almost like fireworks, and Owen's Kalosian Pokemon gaped at the ridiculous sight.
(Poke-Speak)
"How is that even possible?" Pikachu asked rhetorically as he looked around at his teammates, who were captivated by the battle.
"I don't know, but Charizard is on a whole different level than us," Butterfree replied without emotion. Chespin, Frogadier, and Tyrunt, however, were amped up by the battle, and they were staring with wide eyes.
"I don't care how much work it takes. I'll do anything to be as strong as Charizard," Chespin told the others while smiling with determination.
"Me too!" Frogadier and Tyrunt sang in unison while Haunter watched in silence, paying attention to every little thing Charizard and Arrow were doing as they continued to battle back and forth.
(End Poke-Speak)
"Raaawwwrr!" Charizard roared just before an explosion occurred, sending himself and Arrow back towards Owen and Jack, respectively. The two Mega Evolved Pokemon let out deep breaths at the same time, making them grin.
"Charizard, use Dragon Claw!" Owen commanded while punching his fist forwards. Charizard exploded forwards at a speed Jack and Arrow weren't expecting, resulting in the Aerodactyl being slashed across the chest by the gigantic blue claws that shot out of Charizard's hands. After a vicious swing upwards, Arrow was lifted off the ground and sent into the air, but Jack kept his composure and retaliated within nanoseconds.
"Rockslide!" Arrow screeched while flapping his wings downwards, causing a ton of boulders and rocks to suddenly fall from the sky and onto Charizard, who was crushed underneath the attack while he let out a weak cry. The black Pokemon was completely covered by the rocks and Owen's companions and his Pokemon stared in shock as Charizard didn't make a sound.
"Chariza-"
"RAAAAWWWWWRRR!" Suddenly, a tornado of blue fire shot straight up and launched all of the boulders off of Charizard as he slowly rose to his feet. Jack and Arrow exchanged quick glances before they looked at Charizard in disbelief. The fire starter from Kanto glared at Arrow as he brushed the dirt off his body before launching himself into the air at hyper speed.
"I don't get it," Eddy said to Brooklyn and Daniel, making them turn away from the battle. "I've never seen a Pokemon that strong before! Not even on TV during the leagues!" the eight year old exclaimed.
"Yeah, this is just ridiculous," Daniel stated as he nodded, agreeing with Eddy. "Charizard is like... an Elite 4 level Pokemon," the sixteen year old said, trying to find a comparison to what he was watching.
"Use Blast Burn!" Owen shouted. "Guys, back up," Owen told his Pokemon and friends, and they all did so immediately. Charizard's stomach suddenly began to glow blue until he released a tornado of spiraling blue flames that almost looked like water, but the heat emitted from the fire would tell you otherwise.
"Take to the skies, Arrow!" Jack countered, not knowing that Owen wanted him to do that. Once the fire hit the ground, it began to shoot back up into the sky, catching Jack and Arrow by surprise. Somehow the blue flames managed to wrap around Arrow, making the Pokemon cry as the fire was hotter than the sun.
"Now grab Arrow and use Seismic Toss!" Owen boomed. Charizard swooped down as Arrow began to fall from the air in pain, and Charizard grabbed his opponent despite the ever present spikes. The two then shot straight into the air like a bullet before Charizard began to fly in a circle. After making three circles, Charizard and Aerodactyl flew straight into the ground, cracking the battlefield on impact. Charizard immediately got back up and roared powerfully as Arrow slowly rose to his feet and stared at his foe in exhaustion. Arrow was clearly in pain, but the Pokemon refused to give in.
"Stop." Arrow turned and saw Jack raising his hand and walking forward. "I think we've had enough, Arrow. Owen, that was a great battle, but we can't keep going." Owen and Charizard looked at each other in confusion before they nodded and walked towards the middle of the destroyed battlefield. "Congratulations," Jack said as he and Owen shook hands. As they did, Charizard and Arrow also shook hands.
"Thanks. You and Arrow are a really strong team," Owen complimented sincerely, making Jack smile.
"Thanks. Arrow, let's make sure we train a lot so the next time we battle we'll be ready."
"Daaac!" Arrow screeched, piercing everyone's ears.
"Good luck, Jack!" Owen and the others shouted as the older boy walked away with his Aerodactyl. The two waved before disappearing into the darkness, leaving the five trainers and Owen's Pokemon.
"That was such an awesome battle!" Cindy squealed with glee, making Charizard smile proudly as he reverted back to his original form. Once he did, the fire type sat down and took a deep breath. The energy it took to Mega Evolve wasn't something he was used to.
"Congrats on the win, you two," Daniel told Owen and Charizard. "I guess I'm going to head out. Hopefully I'll see you guys around." Daniel waved as he began to walk across the battlefield, but he stopped when a voice called him.
"Daniel, wait!" Eddy shouted. The sixteen year old turned and looked at the little boy running towards him, and he knelt to looked Eddy in the eyes. "Do you want to come with us? Come on, it would be awesome!" Daniel looked up at the three older trainers - who were nodding - and he bit his lip.
"Do you mind if I get back to you tomorrow? It's kind of late and I want to get a good night's rest before deciding."
"No problem," Brooklyn and Owen replied in unison, making Cindy laugh. Brooklyn glared at the younger girl and blushed at her mockery, but no one noticed.
"Thanks. I'll tell you guys tomorrow." With that, Daniel walked into the Pokemon Center and sighed, running his hand through his hair worriedly.
So, Owen and Jack had a Mega Battle, and Owen won. Once again, make sure to check out Elodus' story, "Life at the Fossil Gym", which is about Jack and his times as a gym leader. It's really original and Owen makes a brief appearance, so read! Going back to this story, Daniel was just asked to join the group, and next chapter will be about him thinking about whether he wants to or not, his decision, and the end of the chapter will lead into Chapter 37. Till next time, peace out.
Next Chapter: "Daniel's Decision": After being asked to join Owen and co. Daniel searches for an answer while roaming Coumarine City. When he runs into trouble, however, will he even be able to tell the group his decision?
