Twenty: Consequences of War
"So, I heard one of the girls kissed you." Jakeline tells Steve and he looks at her with such a guilty face that made Jakeline feel bad about bringing it up.
"Peggy shot at me afterwards on my new shield." Steve tells her.
"I would prefer that she punched the girl." Jakeline tells him and Steve holds her waist.
"You know, that I do feel bad about it."
"I know Steve, do not worry about it." Jakeline tells him and gives him a kiss and this one is deep and calming for both of them, they separated and smiled at each other.
"I have to go on a mission." Steve told her.
"I'm aware of, come back safe." she said and gave him a peck on the lips. Steve smiled and went to the rest of his team.
$LINE BREAK, LINE BREAK$
The war went on and Steve would go into battle with Hydra and Jakeline was healing a lot of other soldiers coming in, she would move around ad help in all she could. He would get news of what was happening around the world. She even got a visit from someone.
"You know, I didn't really believe you would be here." Hiccup told her.
"Did you get injured?" Jakeline said.
"Yes, not something that really doesn't hurt, but you know." Hiccup told her. "Names is Hixtor at the moment."
"Right." Jakeline told him. "So, what have you heard?"
"The other spirits are worried." Hiccup told her. "Some is using magic as a weapon."
"What kind of magic?" Jakeline asked.
"No one really knows." Hiccup said. "But they are destroyed a town with the painting of the Yddrassil."
"That's Norse." Jakeline told him, which meant Asgardian. "My Father hasn't shown up so I can't ask him and I don't know much about Asgard to actually know."
"Well, we're worried that humans are trying to use magic."
"Some of them are responsible with it." she told him
"Yes 'some' not all." Hiccup told her.
$LINE BREAK, LINE BREAK$
They were in the mountain waiting for Zola to get here.
"Remember when I made you ride the Cyclone at Coney Island?" Bucky asked Steve.
"Yeah and I threw up?"
"This isn't payback is it?" Bucky asks him.
"Now why would I do that?" Steve asks him but there's a smile on his face.
"We were right. Dr. Zola's on the train. Hydra dispatchers gave him permission to open up the throttle. Wherever he's going, they need him bad."
"Let's get going because they're moving like the devil."
"We only got about a 10 second window. You miss that window were bugs on a windshield." Steve tells them.
"Mind the gap."
"Better get moving bugs!" Dugan tells them. When they arrived in the train and both Bucky and the Captain land in they don't see that Dr. Zola has seen them. When they arrive is too quiet and both of them move, when Steve crosses the threshold the door closes and Steve notices but before he can get back the door closes for him too. He sees that someone is right there trying to get Bucky but also one of the Hydra soldiers has come for him. He begins to shoot, when the Hydra soldier shoots at him and he hides in one of the stacks.
"Stop him, fire again!" Dr. Zola orders his officers.
On both sides both Bucky and Steve are fighting, trying to shoot the soldiers. Steve gets the idea to jump on the hook and moves with it before he hits the Hydra soldier with his legs and the shield.
Steve shoots the door down before going to help Bucky. He sees that Bucky's ammo is gone, so he gets his own gun and opens the door showing Bucky his gun and throwing it at him. They both move together before Bucky is able to shoot him down.
"I had him on the ropes." Bucky tells him.
"I know you did." Steve tells him. When he hears the noise they both turned around before Steve raises the shield. "Get down!" he says and the blast hits him and the train opens but it throws Steve to the side.
"Fire again! Kill him now!" Dr. Zola orders.
Bucky gets up and sees the Shield before he grabs it and goes to shoot with it on his arm. But the blast hits him taking him out of the train. Steve sees gets up and goes to hit the Hydra soldier with his shield, he goes to help Bucky. He takes off his helmet and looks at Bucky.
"Bucky!" he says and begins to move. "Just hang on." he says. He reaches a bit before he stretches his hand.
"Grab my hand." He says and sees the pole break. "No!" he says before the pole breaks and Bucky falls. Steve just sees him go down and he bents his head.

Peggy was the one to tell her everything, she was in shock.
"Bucky is dead?"
"Yes." Peggy told her.
"Where's Steve?" she asked.
"He is around, I don't know." Peggy told her. Jakeline sighed and looked at her.
"I'm going to go find him." Jakeline tells her and begins to walk because she was not going to let Steve mourn Bucky alone.

It took a few hours when she found him in a destroyed building, he was sitting down, and he looked so lost. Steve finds himself alone before he hears something; he knows that it's not Peggy but Jakeline. He looks around and he is reaching to get the bottle again.
"Dr. Erskine said that, the serum wouldn't just affect my muscles. It would affect my cells." Steve told her as she came. "Create a protective system of regeneration and healing. This means." He says looking at the bottle. "I can't get drunk. Did you know that?"
"Your metabolism burns four times faster than the average person. He thought it could be one of the side effects." She tells him. "It wasn't your fault."
"Did Peggy tell you." he asks.
"Yes."
"Then you know that's not true."
"You did everything you could." She tells him. "Did you believe in our friend?" she asks him and Steve looks at her.
"Did you respect him? Then stop blaming yourself allow James the dignity of his choice. He damn well must have thought you were worth it."
"I'm going after Schmidt." He tells her. "I'm not going to stop until all of Hydra is dead or captured."
"You won't be alone." she told him. Jakeline didn't want to leave him alone because she saw the fire there and she believed him.
"I'm sorry." She told him.
"It was his choice I have to respect that." He told her but she knew that he still felt guilty; they sat next to each other.
"Things are about to get more dangerous." He tells her.
"I know, but I will be here with you." Jakeline tells him. Steve grabs her hand and he lets a few tears falls because he knows that Jakeline won't say anything this was private for them and no one else.
$LINE BREAK, LINE BREAK$
In the war room they were discussing Hydra.
"Johann Schmidt belongs in a bughouse." Colonel Phillips told them. "He thinks he's a god, he's willing to blow up half the world to prove it, starting with the USA." He said pointing to the map.
"Schmidt's working with powers beyond our capabilities." Howard told them. "He gets across the Atlantic; he will wipe out the entire Eastern Seaboard in an hour."
"How much time we got?"
"According to my new best friend, under 24 hours." Colonel Phillips tells them.
"Where is he now?" one of them asked.
"Hydra's last base is here." He says. "In the Alps, 500 feet below the surface."
"So, what are we supposed to do? I mean it's not like we can just knock on the front door."
"Why not?" Steve asks and everyone turns to look at him. "That's exactly what we're going to do." he says.

"You're going." Jakeline said.
"Yes." Steve told her. They looked at each other and he took off his tags and put them around her neck.
"Steve, you…"
"I have an extra pair; I want you to keep my originals." Steve told her. "Guard them for me."
Jakeline grabbed him around the neck and bent him down so she could kiss him. Steve kissed her back and they were both worried and scared. Jakeline pulled back.
"Please come back to me." Jakeline says.
"Hey, we have to get married." Steve told her.
"I have something important to tell you when you get back." Jakeline tells him.
"I will." Steve tells her, he kissed her again this time deeper before he leaves.
$LINE BREAK, LINE BREAK$
Steve walked with the Hydra goons that had captured him. He arrived in an office and saw Schmidt standing there and walking forward.
"Arrogance may not be a uniquely American trait, but I must say, you do it better than anyone." He told Steve. "But there are limits. To what even you can do, Captain. Or did Erskine tell you otherwise?"
"He told me you were insane." Steve told him and he got hit.
"He resented my genius and tried to deny me, what was rightfully mine." He said and hit him a few times. "But he gave you everything." Steve was hit a few more times.
"So, what made you so special?" Schmidt asked.
"Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." Steve told Schmidt and he got him and was sent on his knees. "I can do this all day."
"Of course you can." Schmidt told him and he was taking something out which Steve notice it was a gun. "But unfortunately, I am on a tight schedule." Steve heard the commotion and knew his team had arrived.
"So am I." he said and fought his attackers knowing that Schmidt had just run. The team arrived and one other grabbed his shield.
"Rogers! You might need this." and gave him his shield.
"Thanks." Steve told him.
"We're in. Assault team! Go." Was heard.
"Move out."
$LINE BREAK, LINE BREAK$
Steve had just taken the guards out and he was going for Schmidt. He walked into the room and saw the machine before he saw the chair but it seemed to quiet. He walked and heard something he turned around and put his shield up as the blast passed through it.
"You don't give up, do you?" he asked.
"Nope." Steve said and moved forward the shield taking the blast before he used the shield to throw the gun out of Schmidt's hand. They began to fight rolling around the room and punches and kicks were thrown. Steve pushed Schmidt and he landed on the control board, making the plane go down.
They both went up in the ceiling but it didn't stop them from fighting. That was until Schmidt kicked Steve to the side and move to the other side, and Schmidt moved and put the plane into autopilot. Schmidt got the gun and looked around for the Captain.
"You could have the power of the gods!" he said and took a shot. "Yet you wear a flag on your chest and think you fight a battle of nations!" He took another shot when he saw the captain.
"I have seen the future Captain!" Schmidt said. "There are no flags!" Steve looks around and went to move.
"Not in my future!" Steve said. He jumped getting missed by the hits again and grabbed his shield and threw it at Schmidt who got hit and his body hit the machine where the cube was located. The machine made a sound and an energy source seems to come out.
"What have you done?" Schmidt asked looked at the cube. "No." he said and grabbed the cube in his hand and something weird seemed to happen, the cube opened something and Schmidt began to scream in pain, before he was gone and Steve looked at the place where Schmidt was and he got his shield put it next to him and got control of the plane but he knew he wouldn't have time.
"Come in this is Captain Rogers do you hear me." Steve said.
"Captain Rogers what is…?" Steve heard then.
"Steve, Steve is that you are you alright." He heard Peggy.
"Peggy, Schmidt dead." He said.
"What about the plane?" she asked him. Steve was pushing buttons.
"That's a little bit tougher to explain." He said.
"Give me your coordinates, I'll find you a safe landing sight." Peggy told him. Steve looks at the bombs on the plane.
"There's not going to be a safe landing." He said. "But I can try and force it down."
"I…I'll get Howard on the line he'll know what to do." Peggy told him.
"There's not enough time…this thing is moving too fast and it's moving for New York." Steve told her. "I gotta put her in the water."
"Please don't do this; we have time we can work it out." Peggy told him.
"Right now I'm in the middle of nowhere; if I wait any longer a lot of people are going to die." Steve told her, he began to think. "Peggy this is my choice."
He took out his compass and looked at Jakeline and he knew he wouldn't be able to marry her.
"Peggy."
"I'm here." She told him.
"I'm going to need you to do me a big favor." Steve told her.
"Whatever you need." Peggy said.
"I need you to tell Jakeline that I love her, that I want her to be happy and that I'm sorry I won't be making it to our wedding."
"You will…she's going to be wearing white." Peggy said.
"She would look beautiful, and we would dance even if I would step on her toes at least once." Steve told her and he felt no fear as the plane descended but it was his choice and he was seeing it through. "Tell her I love…" He didn't get to finish when the plane hit the ice and he knocked out. The impact was hard enough for him not to feel it.
